I picked Joey B's from reading Yelp reviews and was eager to try it out. It's a tiny place which I didn't see on any of the reviews I read, but don't let that deter you. You can pick from counter seating or a couple of outdoor tables. We sat at the counter and enjoyed the diner ambiance. We had the Chicken Melt with Chipotle Sauce, a Tuna Melt, a Greek wrap, a basket of Fries&Onion Rings, and a Cookies&Cream Milk Shake. Every was delicious. The portions were a bit on the smaller side but good nonetheless. The shake was tasty but could have been thicker. Seemed more like a shake I could make at home and not as thick as I expect to be getting at a diner. The waitress serving everything up was nice and was working nonstop.

When I read about this little hole-in-the-wall about 4 months ago, I immediately put Joey B's on my bucket list. For starters, I read that Steve Cohen, the multibillionaire owner of the NY Mutts was a regular patron...for their hot dogs! Hoping to bump into Steve, and offer some baseball advice, I made the trek south from Windsor Locks to Cos Cob. Added bonus - my bff, Pots & Pans, was driving up from Astoria AND springing for two dogs. First of all, what a unique place. Ample parking and an old-fashioned "diner" in toney Cos Cob. A real throwback. Limited counter seating. No indoor tables and a few outdoor ones. We each ordered two New Yorker dogs (sauerkraut and spicy mustard). They slice the Sabretts lengthwise and grill them. The buns, I think, were lightly steamed. Very, very good, but a tad below some of the other hot dog places I've reviewed. Plus, a little on the pricey side....total bill, w tax, was $16.00, for 4 dogs w kraut. Hey, you're paying Cos Cob prices, but I felt bad for P & P. At least he paid his debt on this one, which is not always the case. If there is a next time, I'll have one of the breakfast choices. I also found out that Steve Cohen, for the past several years, has food delivered to his office. He no longer stops in. Let's go, Mutts!

Yes sir! Great food that h was perfect and fast. The staff is a bit distant but what you want in a diner. Small crowded place but once again perfect diner atmosphere.

Best Hot Dog place in Greenwich. Generous portions and high quality food with delicious specials to offer every day. Has a local vibe with a friendly clientele the staff is very friendly. The Chili is delicious we always get some to go and eat with food we make at home.

Really awesome chili. Incredible quality and huge portions. The chili is an old school family recipe that is absolutely stellar.

They removed the older more visible sign. I wouldn't have purchased anything if I knew since the whole point of the coffee and food was to have a place to work out of the house for an hour or so. I'm told that I can buy one cup of coffee and sit for 4 hours and read a book, I can sit for 4 hours and watch YouTube on my phone or iPad, or I can basically do all manner of reclusive things sitting by myself - but I am not allowed to sit and spend an hour or two writing on my laptop. Only the laptop is anti social, apparently. On days that I work from home, I like to get out of the house for a bit in the morning, enjoy a wonderful Kyoto cold brew and a coffee cake or Cinnamuff, and maybe get a second bite a bit later. And yes, get a bit of work done :) There are plenty of places in the area to go sit for hours and hours of work, so that is never my intent here, but to flat out ban laptops at all hours no matter how empty the store sure seems silly to me. I don't need to spend $15 to take my coffee back home. (I did once try emailing the owner to have a productive discussion on this but was ignored.)

My suggestion is to order your coffee at the register to-go while you're waiting to be seated. It makes the time fly by! The cafe is cozy and welcoming. The decor is warm and celebrates coffee, a true highlight of the restaurant. Their pastries look inviting and truly decadent. The ladies behind the register and server at our table are all so pleasant and helpful. Our server, Mariana, was very knowledgeable of the menu and suggested options to us for specific food allergies. Mariana is kind, helpful, and really makes you feel taken care of. Their coffee beans have a perfect acidity and chocolatey note, making the coffee taste flavorful, rich, and smooth. Both coffee and espresso drinks are served to perfection. Their hot drip coffee is very smooth and may be one of the best coffees I've had. I also love the Maple Cinnamon Latte with almond milk. It is complex in flavor and perfectly sweetened to my liking. Sweet Pea's is popular for their pão de queijo, a Brazilian cheese bread, which is gluten free. It is the BEST pão de queijo I've tried. It's perfectly salty, buttery, and fluffy. Just wow. They have many options for sandwich fillings with this bread, both savory and sweet. The Old Farmer's Breakfast is a hearty dish. The scrambled eggs are fluffy and seasoned well. The bacon is crispy and makes the dish have the perfect balance of savory and sweet. The gluten free pancakes are flavorful but slightly drier than an average pancake, so do dunk them in a little maple syrup to give them that just-right texture. If you are gluten free, it is worthy to note that cross-contamination is possible from their pancake grill. The dish is so filling and recommended! I would absolutely come back to try more dishes and coffee creations.

Something differently that could've been done was taking three seconds out of one of the staff member's day to walk outside and give the food to the customer. Instead, her banging on the window felt rude and aggressive, and at that point, I no longer wanted to be there. Additionally, I wasn't going to get the food to go at first, but after waiting outside for so long, I decided to go inside and order it to go because the service was taking too long.

In the order notes, I specifically asked if they could replace the pancakes with toast on ONE of the two orders, if possible. The request was very clear: one order with toast, one order with pancakes. When the food arrived at Stamford Hospital, where my wife and I had just welcomed our baby, both orders came with toast and neither included the pancakes. I called the restaurant to try to understand what happened. The gentleman I spoke with couldn't provide any reasonable explanation other than saying that my note was "confusing." It really wasn't. And even if there was any confusion, the obvious solution would have been to call and clarify the order before preparing it rather than simply making the substitution on both meals. What made the situation even worse was the response from the restaurant. I asked if they could correct the mistake by bringing the missing pancakes to the hospital. He refused. Then, after I expressed my frustration with how the situation was being handled, he actually hung up on me. That is completely unacceptable customer service. Mistakes happen -- especially with delivery orders -- but how a business handles a mistake says everything. Instead of apologizing, correcting the issue, or even attempting to find a reasonable solution, I was met with excuses, an attitude, and ultimately a hang-up. Awful management and an even worse customer-service experience. Unfortunately, the food itself was also less than average, so there really wasn't anything about this experience that would make me want to return. We were literally at the hospital after having our baby, and what should have been a simple brunch order turned into this unnecessary headache. I absolutely do NOT recommend Elm Street Diner. There are plenty of places that will not only serve you better food, but will actually treat their customers with basic courtesy and respect.
