Went to JOEY last night for my third visit, and overall it was still a good experience. The staff was friendly, but service wasn't quite as attentive as previous visits. Dirty plates and trash sat on our table for a while, and our appetizers never got rung in. Two managers came over, apologized, and still asked if we wanted the appetizers, which I appreciated. My main reason for leaving this review is the lobster spaghetti. The menu advertises lobster and prawns, but my dish seemed to have regular shrimp and what appeared to be scallops instead. As someone who grew up in Maine and loves seafood, it didn't seem to match what was advertised. The dish tasted good overall, but for $43, I'd expect it to reflect what's on the menu. Overall still a good experience, but if you're ordering the lobster spaghetti, just be aware my experience didn't match what was advertised. read more

Yesterday, I visited Joey La Jolla to celebrate a very special occasion, and the experience was exceptional from beginning to end. It all started with the wonderful woman who answered the phone. I called because I knew I was going to be about 30 minutes late for my reservation, and she was incredibly accommodating and pushed my reservation back without any hassle. When we arrived, the hostess warmly welcomed us and even offered us a glass of bubbly while we waited. The wait wasn't long at all, and shortly afterward she escorted us to our table. Within moments, our server, Madeline T., introduced herself with such a warm smile, positive energy, and genuine enthusiasm. Since it was my first time dining at Joey, I asked for her recommendations. We ended up ordering everything she suggested, and every single dish was a 10/10. The experience got even better. There is a particular cocktail that I love that wasn't listed on the menu, but I asked if it could be made anyway. Without hesitation, Madeline smiled and said she could make it happen. Throughout the evening, she checked on us at just the right times. We always felt well taken care of, but never interrupted or rushed. That balance is something not every server can achieve. Madeline T. is a tremendous asset to Joey La Jolla and sets a wonderful example of what outstanding customer service should look like. She truly made our celebration feel even more special. I have been a regular at Joey in Newport Beach because I have a friend who lives in Huntington Beach, California, and we often meet for a leisurely luncheon at the Joey Newport Beach, which is located with in Newport Center Shopping Mall near Fleming's Steak House Restaurant. They have a good variety of dishes, it was hard to pick just one dish to eat! For apps, we got the roast beef sliders, cauliflower, and chicken lettuce wraps. The roast beef sliders are a must get! That was so good! The roast beef was soft, the toast was crispy, it also had this garlic butter spread that was delicious! The chicken lettuce wraps were pretty good! It had big chunks of chicken with little won ton skins they gave it a nice crunch. The cauliflower had a sweet chili sauce that was really good too. I really enjoyed the roasted chicken. It was really juicy! It's placed on top of this crispy potato, bacon, and green which I couldn't get enough of! The ravioli was good too! Had a good creamy Alfredo sauce, if you're in that mood! The seabass tastes really good, but there was something off with the texture. It seemed like it might've been undercooked? A friend had gotten it last time and said the same thing. I don't think I would get it again. I loved the desserts! The crème brûlée cheesecake was so soft and velvety. Not too sweet and the perfect dessert to share.. I also loved the butter cake! When we got there at our time they told us it would be a little bit but offered some sparkling wine while we waited which was a nice touch. For food we got the spicy crab dip, scallop & shrimp ceviche, miso roasted mushrooms, Korean fried cauliflower, truffle udon carbonara, seared salmon sushi and steak and lobster spaghetti. Favorite dishes were the ceviche (very fresh and good flavors) and the lobster spaghetti (amazing lemon sauce and good lobster flavor). The only downside was that service was all over. We had three different people acting as our server. And our "official" server never actually came over during our meal. Joey La Jolla is such a great addition to the dining line up at UTC mall. Trendy ambiance with equally great food. I recommend booking a reservation as this place is still packed after they opened a couple months ago. A great first impression was that customers 21+ can receive complimentary champagne while you wait to be seated. There are also multiple hostesses tending to people checking in via their iPads, so operationally, Joey has their ish together! I tried their mini short rib French dips with au jus as an appetizer, which was amazing! The meat was so tender, and in combination with the Gruyère cheese and au jus for dipping, everything melted in your mouth cohesively. For entree, I ordered the Shrimp Bianco ravioli--automatic 10/10 for portion size, fresh pasta, and delicious Beurre Blanc sauce. This was such a treat! I had no idea JOEY was a Canadian restaurant chain with 36 locations across Canada and the U.S. The menu had a little bit of everything: Italian, Mexican, seafood, Chinese, and steaks. LOL. I'm glad we had reservations because the place was packed within 30 minutes of opening. Everyone was dressed up, and the service was amazing. Even as it got busier, the staff did an incredible job keeping up with the crowd while still providing attentive, friendly service. At our table we had Abby V and she made amazing food recommendations and were delighted by the delectable items. And of course, I have to mention the food. Everything was prepared beautifully and made from scratch. From start to finish, the experience was awesome, and I can't wait to go back with a larger group so we can order even more dishes. Amazing food & great ambience. From start to finish, everything was delicious. Started with the miso mushrooms, spicy crab dip and short rib toast as appetizers, highly recommend all of those! ESPECIALLY the mushrooms. Sautéed perfectly with a great tasting sauce. Then went right into the filet mignon which melted in your mouth that came with a side of a crispy mash potato that tasted like a loaded baked potato in an eggroll and broccolini that was so fresh in a light lemon sauce. Carbonara reminded me of an Asian inspired bbq pork noodle. Shrimp ravioli was so yummy. Ended the night with a super delightful crème brulee cheesecake that hit the right spot for a nice sweet treat after an incredible dinner. Highly recommend this place for date night, birthdays or just a simple dinner. Five stars for sure! Only bad review would be that we had asked for water 3 times and it was never brought out the entire time. Came into Joey for lunch on a Tuesday. It's located near to a large open parking lot, so it's an easy walk if you prefer to skip valet. The waiting area is beautiful, with a fireplace, and the host offered us sparkling wine or tea right away, which was a nice touch. From there, the circular lounge flows into an indoor outdoor dining space, where lush greenery and natural light blend nicely with the interior. This place is crazy busy every time I walked by, and I can see why! It's definitely an "it" spot, but not sure if that's because it's so new or if it will stay this way - you'll definitely want to book reservations early out if you want a good time. The menu has a variety of food genres, so it was hard for me to choose what I wanted to eat. I landed on the Korean fried cauliflower, scallop and shrimp ceviche, and steak frites. The cauliflower was really good, and so was the ceviche, although it is on the sweeter side so steer clear if you're looking for something more citrusy. My steak frites was the perfect amount of food, and the salad dressing was amazing! I also love thinner cut fries for the crispiness, so those hit the spot too! The staff was super friendly and there were a lot of different people that came to check on us, and our server was super sweet. As I mentioned before, they have so much on the menu that I'll definitely be back to try more! My review is for a quick bite my husband and I were able to grab while enjoying a little alone time while our kids were at camp. We live nearby and were excited to try Joey as it has recently opened at UTC near Javier's and Din Tai Fung. We didn't have a reservation and thought to wing it. Luckily the bar was available and we were happy to be seated there. It definitely has a trendy atmosphere, but approachable. The staff were all very friendly and we were happy with the quality of our drinks and food. The menu is Asian-fusion inspired, so I was exited to explore around. I will say the menu is quite large, which for some I'm sure is nice. However, for us, it seems like they're trying to satisfy the wants of every diner versus doing staple items really well. One thing that can turn me off is the "sushi" choices. For the exception of one roll, they're all filled with cooked or seared fish and loaded with sauces and tempura. It would be nice to see a few options for sushi lovers like myself to have some raw nigiri options without the fillers and mayo-based sauce. But, I do get that most people may want those types of rolls. We really enjoyed their French Dip sliders and their ceviche. Both were very flavorful and make for great dishes to share. This is a newer spot to San Diego and a great place for your next date night. The inside is stunning, we got to sit in the back area that almost had a forrest vibe to it. When you arrive and check in, they offer complimentary bubbles while you wait for your table, such a fun and nice touch. There was a good variety of n/a drinks, and even a low alcohol cocktail list which are made lighter, which is a great idea that I've never seen before. I got the Strawberry Cool, which was sweet and tart at the same time and was refreshing. It came in a large wine glass so it had the fun feel of a spritz without the alcohol. For a starter we got the spicy crab dip, if you like seafood, this is a must, it was served warmed and had the perfect amount of kick and warm toasted sourdough on the side. As my main I got the shrimp and scallop ceviche with a side of truffle Parmesan fries. The ceviche was bright, loaded with tropical flavor, and served with warm tortilla chips. My hubby got the steak frites with a side of chimichurri and he raved about it. They topped off our meal with crème brûlée cheesecake and just wow. There was strawberry whipped cream on the side that really balanced out the dessert. I have to give a shout out to our server Alexis, she was wonderful. I've been to the Newport Beach (Fashion Island) location, plenty of times but my first time was the other evening here in my hometown of San Diego. The staff was excellent, attentive and genuinely kind! It was very organized. For a new restaurant, I can tell they really prioritized making their service excellent. Came here to celebrate one of my girl friend's birthdays with a group of 8 of us! We sat in a nice large booth! She made reservations online through an AI app thing. The food was good! The common food items just like any of the other Joey restaurants. Food was prepared beautifully with tons of flavor! See photos. There is valet for $20 right in front which I chose. However, there is ample parking in the structure and surrounding lots. The first hour is free and then you pay after that. I want to try sitting outdoors next time. Westfield's UTC adds a chic elevated dining experience with Joey La Jolla, and it's a solid spot for a nice meal and a good time. What started as a italian restaurant known for their pasta dishes, Joey offers a well appointed menu ranging from sushi, steaks, pasta and many more. Located on the ground floor of the mall nearest La Jolla Village Drive, you are greeted with outdoor patio seating with and multiples hostesses checking in guests. Once checked in you are offered complimentary champagne while you wait to be taken to your table. When you enter, the bar anchors the dining room with a plethora of booth and table seating. There is outdoor seating as well near the entrance. The interior is sleek and contemporary with art adorning the walls. Starting the night with some of their signature cocktails, I went with the Supersonic Gin & Tonic with cucumber, slush and a sprig of rosemary. It's categorized as a "slush cocktail" but there was very little slush but overall it was good. Then followed up with their classic margarita, frothy and delicious. The pièce de résistance of the night was the Fire-roasted Seafood Tower. Unlike most seafood tower, everything was hot like the clams, shrimp and scallops in a savory broth. The shrimp was plump as well as the scallops. The grilled lobster was fantastic with the char giving it a smokey flavor as well as the crab dip that also went well with the grilled sourdough. For my main I went with the Steak & Sushi. The steak is tataki style so it is a 5oz. sirloin cut into bite sizes in a bowl of a ponzu sauce. For the sushi you can select either the crispy nigiri, seared salmon sushi, or tuna & avocado crunch roll. I went with the crispy nigiri as I love a good crunch texture. This was a great mix of meat and sushi, this combo worked well. Other dishes that the table ordered that stood out was the Truffle Udon Carbonara. I love the mix of udon noodles and the creamy carbonara sauce topped off with a katsu chicken and egg yolk. For dessert, the table went with the butter cake with raspberries and tahitian vanilla ice cream. I thought it was just ok as the buttery flavor did not really come through. Overall it was a great experience from start to finish with the friendly and helpful service to the wide range of dishes that were well prepared and memorable. After catching a movie @ AMC La Jolla, found this place and gave it a go. Figured we could just walk up to the bar since I'm sure reservations booked and bar service is fast. So when walking in, a group of greeters let us know they walk you to the bar (interesting), they also give you a complimentary cup of the bubbly. I was mainly here to chill and watch a game, however, the only thing, other than walking you to the bar, very odd, misleading is when I asked where the TVs went. The greeter went to check, she came back w/another complimentary cup of bubbly and explained "they only have TVs on when the whole bar is watching a game". Why is this misleading... Joey's is most def not or ever will be a sports bar and at no time will there ever be a moment when 'the whole bar' is watching the same game. Maybe super bowl.... Maaayyyybbbeeee.. but who would go here for that? As for the HH life... we had the Japanese Gyoza, lettuce wraps & the hummus. The hummus was ok cuz it felt like the hummus was a side of hummus on its own dish. Japanese Gyoza was vry good. The big winner is those lettuce wraps, soooo goooood!!! Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and offered a glass of complimentary champagne. We sipped on our bubbly drinks while we sat next to the fire pit and waited for our table. Within minutes, our table was ready. Joey La Jolla has only been opened for 2 weeks, but based on their flawless execution of every dish and their superb service, one would've never suspected the restaurant was newly open. The management team did an incredible job training their staff. Our server, Kayla, was on point and delivered exceptional service to our table, party of 8. Our group ordered the following appetizers to share: Crab dip x2 Scallop and shrimp ceviche x2 Szechuan chicken lettuce, wrap x2 Japanese gyoza Korean fried cauliflower Hibachi wings We each ordered an entree. I had the bone-in prime ribeye, medium rare. It was perfect! It had a nice black pepper rub and was served with the crispy mashed potato rolls and broccolini, with black pepper sauce for dipping. I had a bite of the sake glazed Chilean sea bass (I had this when I visited the Newport Beach location) and it was absolutely delicious! For dessert, we shared the Baked Alaska and flourless chocolate cake. Of the 2, I preferred the flourless chocolate cake. The Baked Alaska had a beautiful presentation, but I didn't love the texture of the chocolate cake at the bottom of it or the ice cream flavor. Aside from this dessert, I loved everything that we ordered. My absolute favorite dish of the night were the Szechuan chicken lettuce wraps. Something I really loved was the section of the beverage menu with low alcohol cocktails. I feel like they created this just for me. I ordered the low alcohol coconut smash. It was ridiculously good! The restaurant is super cute and all the staffs were hottt gorgeous and super friendly and nice! Joey is located inside of utc next to Javier's. There are plenty of parking spots but paid unless you park on the street. The restaurant was cute and the foods were super delicious too. Fun little happy hour spot right next to Javier's and Lucrezia. Parked in the lot along La Jolla Village drive and walked over. Love their snack pack pairings. The 5 Snack pack pairings include chips and Guac with a margarita, sushi cone with a spritz, Tenders and Champagne, Truffle Fries with an Espresso Martini, and I'll have to come back and try the burger and a glass of cab. The sushi cone was giving everything: crunch from the shrimp tempura and the veggies, soy paper (for the nori-averse), masago for some umami and color, and sprouts for some freshness. So good, I ordered a second! And it comes as a Snack Pack with the Spritz (Aperol, Hugo, or Rosé). Loved our server and the dark, vibey ambiance. Lots of workers on opening week that I was almost tripping on them to get to the bathroom but everyone was friendly and helpful. The were also handing out champagne as a welcome drink at the door (although they forgot to offer me one, maybe it was just for the girls?) I'm completely amazed by this restaurant! Everything was incredible, from the service to the food to the ambiance. Our server Sebastian mentioned that they had just opened a week ago, but the restaurant was already running as if it had been opened for years. The hostess greeted us happily, and offered a complimentary glass of champagne or non-alcoholic sparkling tea. All of the waitstaff was smiling, and genuinely seemed so excited to be there. Our waiter Sebastian enthusiastically recommended his top dishes, and we decided to order the spicy crab dip, the Cajun blackened chicken, and the steak and lobster spaghetti. The spicy crab dip paired perfectly with the grilled sourdough bread. The Cajun blackened chicken was tender and juicy, and the unexpected star of that dish for me was the warm potato and bacon salad. I'd order a whole side of that if I could! The steak and lobster spaghetti was hands down my favorite dish. The lobster spaghetti was cooked to perfection, and paired with an amazing lemon butter sauce and cherry tomatoes. The sirloin was cooked to a medium rare with a nice crust. It's one of the best pasta dishes that I've ever had. I also got the strawberry cool which is a zero proof drink that had strawberry, grapefruit, lemon, and soda. I'd recommend it if you would like a refreshing and fruity non alcoholic drink. We really enjoyed the creme brûlée cheesecake which had the texture of a light cheesecake with a creme brûlée crust on top. It was paired with a strawberry compote and whipped cream. Sebastian was an outstanding waiter, and I'll definitely ask for him the next time that I'm back at Joey. This restaurant had impeccable food and service, and I will be recommending it to all of my friends! If I could rate this restaurant higher than a 5, I would do it. read more

We'll definitely come back! Classy from the ambiance to customer service to food!!! We were greeted with on-the house champagne. Presentation is superb. Portion is not overwhelming. Ambiance here is very much upscale dining. The lady servers are not only1 pretty, but they're all very kind. They constantly check in on us and insure we aren't lacking in anything Food, on the other hand, is very flavorful. I would say it is worth the price point for how well they taste. However, my only complaint about this place is how salty some of the dishes were. Perhaps the chef that night is a bit too heavy handed with salt. read more
