Lovely people and a great place to sit on the porch in Spring! The person who helped me was very nice. But the hoagie was fine. I could make better at home and saved $12. I could not taste the olive oil/vinegar mixture. I didn't understand the lettuce or the way the sandwich was cut--made it hard to eat without everything falling out. But, good thick cheese, thin slided onions that I love. I wished it had been--I dunno, more. Maybe pepper relish or oregano? Or more meat? I grew up walking to John and Mary's and would hang out here with friends as a teen. I have recently moved back to OP and my daughter wanted to give J&M a try. I said sure. Thinking back on my youth I thought it would still be good. I was WRONG! The pizza was under cooked, the wings were barely cooked and not sauced. For $56 dollars it was NOT worth it. Great family spot for a meal while exploring the village, a quick bite after a playground, or pickup order very quickly! Calzones are amazing. Very reasonably priced. Not food related, but when a mural was painted on a new business that shared their parking lot, they put up a fence essentially ruining this for all and publicly tried justifying it with no good reason. The displeasure about it died down, but I think it's valid for all to know their lack of community spirit in this regard. THE WORST pizza on planet Earth. I ordered a large pizza with cheese. It was for delivery. Simple enough, right? Well, listen to this. After an almost impossible phone conversation placing the order with a female clerk who was utterly terrible at taking the order, finally the order was in. (Had I only known what was to come I would have cancelled everything.) My pizza arrives, and I'm famished. I had been refinishing hardwood floors all day and was really looking forward to pizza. And then... I open the box and grab a slice. Sure enough, the slice wouldn't pull apart from the rest. Why? Because the bottom of the pizza crust was not cooked through. In fact, it was nearly raw or undercooked at best. I tried a bite and almost vomited. What a disappointment. I peeked, and every slice was the same. Who serves raw pizza dough? Just about every place makes a crispy and even sometimes burnt crust. Not John & Mary's. Raw is their thing. So, I call back the restaurant and tell the girl who took my order and received the most absurd and poorly stated response. Apparently, this person doesn't speak the King's English very well. Anyway, after a painful conversation, I am offered a store credit...I think. The girl with marbles in her mouth said I would. Lucky me. Hungry AF. Raw pizza. No offer to deliver a new, fresh, cooked pizza in exchange for the garbage they delivered because it was getting too close to closing time. What terrible customer service. I don't want a store credit. I want a refund. The pizza, which I paid just about $27 for with delivery and tip is now sitting in a garbage bin in Hamburg. Bin appetite. John & Mary's sucks. Less than ideal first impression as we walked into J&M's. Multiple piles of swept up garbage left right in the middle of the ordering/drink/inside seating areas while the drink area was sticky and splattered. If this place weren't very close to the hotel and if we weren't starving, guaranteed we would have hightailed it out the door right there. But with that said, we ordered up then took a nice seat outside on their deck to await our fate. Chicken & Broccoli Alfredo - Cheeseburger - Caribbean Turkey Burger The pasta dish was respectable. It's as good as it's getting with sauce from a jar and pasta from a box. The cheeseburger was the cheeseburger. Assuming it's not served raw it's near impossible to shank that one. The turkey burger was far more interesting. I'm not sure about the roll being all that fresh but the burger itself was good enough and there was a whole lot of spinach & salsa on top which was perfect. It was a slow Thursday with maybe four other tables occupied so everything was rendered and served up in a timely manner. So another word about the initial filth factor that I mentioned prior. As we're finishing up I decide to go inside for a drink refill and to put our tray inside plus dispose of our garbage since the outside container is full. On a positive note the garbage that was on the floor prior had now been swept up. But the flip side to that would be garbage boy now decided to mop the floor which would be a great idea if the restaurant were closed but doing that made the floor so damn slippery that it felt like Ice Capades anytime you tried to walk around inside. J&M's is certainly not a bad place as it falls into that nebulous world of places that every town has that have been around forever and locals I assume "get it" but outsiders kind of scratch their head thinking that it was alright but it's nothing worth going out of your way for. Maybe if we had ordered the supposedly infamous pizza we would have thought more highly of the food. I mean not to say that the food was bad but let's be honest, five stars for this place? LOL! Their quality has gone down significantly since the 2010s and not much changed after the renovations. Their chicken fingers usually have the breading just falling off and are often not crispy. Have received several pizzas that were very doughy and seemed undercooked. And who builds a fence to block the mural on another local business? Are they worried people will loiter in their parking lot? Seems incredibly petty and not at all how I would expect a neighboring business to act in the Village of Hamburg of all places. read more

We usually have a pretty good experience here. It's walking distance, so maybe I'm biased. The taco in a bag is one of the best deals on the enormous menu! My go to sub is the chicken souvlaki hoagie. The steak asiago wrap is also amazing. My boyfriend likes the ham and chicken finger subs best. We were really disappointed the last time we ordered a small finger order to go. It's all of the little pieces that don't cut the mustard to go on the subs! It's always pretty quick service. The menu is huge so if you are looking for subs, pizza, sandwiches, soups, tacos, fancy salads, etc., they have it here. The food is average, the service is usually terrible teenager kids that are on their phones or loudly playing in the back. I've had the chicken fingers which are really good but the chicken fajita was so awful. Well... I ordered a chicken fajita but they gave me a chicken taco because it had lettuce and tomato but no fajita seasoning or onions and peppers. Plus they use those fake frozen chicken strips, ew!! When I was younger I would go here all the time, we just moved back into the area and decided to pickup subs from here. I was disappointed not just with the sub but the service. The service was poor at best, we walked in and there wasn't anybody at counter to take our order, then when they got there it was as though they were doing me a favor by taking our order. Then the sub we received we took home and was very disappointed. There was very little meat and hardly any lettuce, tomato or cheese. I am attaching pictures. While we were waiting for our food, I observed two (2) workers handling food without masks on their faces (their masks were hanging carelessly around their necks).. John and Mary's is a really cool pizza place because they have so many other options besides pizza and a nice deck for outdoor seating (this matters for dog people! My Bella joins me often here). They have good sweet potato fries, chicken subs, steak wraps, pasta, pizza, ice cream, etc. Their fried mushrooms are also tasty. It's not the cleanest on the inside, but it's a pizza parlor with no waitresses or bus boys so I don't expect it to be to the quality of a sit down restaurant. Furthermore a lot of it is the customers (lots of Hamburg high students) who are just not picking up after themselves. Perhaps management should look into having employees wipe down tables and take the trash out every couple hours or as needed instead of letting things pile up.
