We've been ordering from John and Mary's since I was a kid. It was always my favorite for subs. I'm sure there are issues and inconsistencies from time to time as with any place, but this is a local pizza place, not a gourmet dining experience. An unplanned motel stay during a late-afternoon snowstorm was much more tolerable when we discovered a menu from John and Mary's in the room. First, the mural controversy...The bar owners didn't think this through before wasting their money. The mural can't be seen from the street. You must enter J&M's parking lot. The mural is in the rear of the lot. Yes they have a right to have a mural on their property just as J&M has a right to erect a fence on their property. Imagine if you needed your neighbour's approval before you did anything. Enuf said Now to get to my review Pros...Glad to see J&M back open I was there first day and have been there at least 4 times since. I have only had subs. Subs are very good, not as good as Wegmans but J&M is much closer. The place is busy but service is fast. Cons...I like the new interior design.combination of booths and tables. However, this place is ALWAYS dirty just like the old place. There is trash on tables and floor. The trash cans are overflowing with trash. Difficult to find clean table. J&M has become a hangout for teens who tend to become rowdy. There are no adults working here and the employees get lax. Love the food, order often from here. Would be 5 stars but have had some unpleasant encounters with staff here. Quick tip, if you want you food to have the best quality, don't get delivery. Waited an hour and a half for a delivery order once to have my food be cold. Also had some little thieves as delivery guys, but that only happened on two occasions. We use to come here all the time for lunch and dinners, my family loved this place!! Unfortunately I will not be returning. The restaurant is absolutely filthy even though they just updated the restaurant due to a fire it looks like it hasn't been cleaned in weeks!!! The floors were super dirty and your shoes stick to it when you walk. We sat at a table and the table was super sticky too, I used baby wipes to try and wipe it down and the baby wipes had so much gross brown and black stuff on it we moved tables and again I used a baby wipes to wipe the table down and yet again it had gross brown stuff all over it. I had to wipe the table twice. For a place that I use to love and enjoy with my family I am horribly disappointing I will not be returning in the future. read more

I've gotten take-out pizza here twice now and I've been disappointed both times. It was really burnt the first time, but any place can have an off night so we tried it again. Not burnt, but still not up to par when there are so many other options for pizza in the Hamburg area. Sauce was bland, the pepperoni was sparse, the crust was hard and dry. Been here a few times until I found Jimmie pizza Inc and never went back. I've been dubbed the chicken finger guy because that's what I usually order. The chicken fingers are always soggy never crispy. I ordered a combo pizza and wings once, never again. It says on the menu request the combo or you get charged seperate and it's ridiculously over priced. Well we requested the combo multiple times in fact during the same phone call and they over charged us. So we tried to call and speak with a manager and spoke with a very VERY RUDE gentleman that called us liars and said his girls never make mistakes ever. So I tried calling back where he literally told me to f off. No refund on the over charge we were missing 3 wings and the pizza was under cooked. The time before that I ordered the cheeseburger special. Its a double burger w fries. Well the burgers were actually cold like they had been in the fridge the fries were overly greasy because they went in under temp grease and Sat in while it was heating up. I called to ask for a refund and told them the problem after a long debate all I got was them willing to replace the same order on a future date because they refused to let me walk the food in when I live 5 doors down as it was closing time. My free food is still waiting for me. Why? Because they're not worth it. You don't talk to women that way and you never disrespect your customers. My husband and I have been going here for about 20 years. The place is not wh at it used to be. it's dirty and get this. If you buy a soda from the cooler you have to pay for a cup of ice. That is per management working the night we were there 2 weeks ago. REALLY? We watched another woman try to get a refill on cheese sauce for the nachos she had. They charged her $1.00 for a tiny tiny cup. She told us she has never had to pay for that before. We won't be eating there anymore. I have been coming to John & Mary's since I was a young child, and I have never been disappointed. The service is great, and the food is very good for a pizza joint. I almost always order the stinger hoagie (steak and chicken fingers) and it has never disappointed. Although the prices have risen in the past few years, the menu has expanded massively. The interior is cozy, and J&M's is my favorite spot to hang out with friends in the village or just grab a quick bite. Highly recommend! read more

My wife and I usually order from here 2 or 3 times a month as we live in the area. That is until now. This evening we ordered our usual, a couple of subs and some mozzarella sticks to share. I always ask for no lettuce tomato or onions on my sub because I'm not a fan of warm vegetables. For the second time in a row, I get the food home for my pregnant wife and I to enjoy and wouldn't you know... Topped with soggy lettuce, tomato, and onion. Yuck. So this time I decide to do my due diligence and call them back and inform them of the mistake. I explained the situation to one of the young ladies there(probably the one that wrote my order wrong) and she passes the phone off to somebody named Andy. I explained the issue at hand again to Andy hoping to hear a considerate apology and a remedy from who I assumed was the manager. Instead, what I got was a lot attitude and sarcasm. First he made me out to be the person to blame for the mistake. I assured him that was not the case as I ALWAYS order it this way. After some back and forth he eventually offered to either give me a refund or remake it if I was willing to come back and pick it up in 15min. I'll be honest. I really didn't want to have to go back, and I didn't feel as though I should have to. So I asked him if they had a delivery man out and about that might be able to drop it off for me. I didn't think that I was making an unreasonable request. After all, it wasn't my fault this happened, and I was finally home for the night after a very hectic work day. And it's not like he was giving me any extra incentive to come back there, like a credit or a cookie or something. So good ol' Andy gives me a big sigh and with a frustrated tone says "No! We have other things we need to do!" My jaw about hit the floor, and before I could say anything else he says "You can either come get a refund or we can remake it!" So rather than loosing my cool on this guy, I just hang up the phone and decide to go get my refund. At this point I'm pissed. I myself have been a Chef and in the hospitality industry for over ten years. I started at the bottom and now own my own business in the field. I've also held several management positions, and I've never treated someone or spoke to a customer the way this guy just did. So I get to the restaurant, walk up to the counter and ask to speak to Andy. After spotting me and probably putting two and two together he hides behind the counter trying to make himself look busy for several minutes. When he finally approached me, I set the messed up sub on the counter and said to him "Andy, I know you have better things to do and so do I. So I'll just take my refund and my business elsewhere." Andy immediately replies with, "No! Your not getting a refund! We are remaking your food right now!" And then begins to walk away. So I shout over to him as he's walking away that I do not want a new sub, I just want my refund! He shouts back that I need to wait then cause he's "busy". So I asked the other young man behind the counter if he can give me my money back so I can leave. The young man explains that he can't because Andy has some special card they have to use. So Andy precedes to use what minuet power he has in this establishment and make me wait at the counter for TEN more minutes. Real professional Andy. When he finally hands me my refund, he informs me that I'm "technically robbing them"... (Ok Andy) and with the upmost sarcasm tells me "you have a nice night sir." We will never be back here, and neither will any of my extended family. Andy, you sir are a disgrace to hospitality workers everywhere. You are a total amateur and have no business being in this industry, let alone holding the title of "manager". In fact, I would suggest joining the military. However, if you do decide to stay in this business, I'd like to offer you a paid shift in my kitchen where I can teach you some manors. read more

A family of 5 with 3 children under the age of 10, John & Mary's was our choice last night. We ordered our food at the counter before the inevitable "daddy I have to use restroom" directive came. The bathroom was not clean, in fact my shoes were sticking to the floor. Our food came out promptly. Two Chicken Caesar salads, a grilled chicken sandwich ( barely grilled), chicken fingers, and another grilled chicken over a bed of not cold nor crunchy salad. Went to J&M for dinner on 11/4/16. Placed our order at 6:50 PM. Larger cheese and pep pizza, double wings and steak sub. After 55 minutes of watching other people who arrived after us get served and watching a young man walking around with a pizza and asking everyone waiting if they ordered a cheese pizza. I went up to the counter with my number card and asked if they forgot about us? They had brought us the wrong pizza (not what we ordered) and a cold sub and cold wings. I asked three differ people for help getting our correct order and warm food. I then ask the young man at the register to speak to the manager. I watched him walk over to a woman cooking on the grill. I heard him explain to her what happened and I heard her tell him that she was too budy to talk with me. I told her that I can't believe i heard her say that. She then told me that she would have to cook a new pizza and it would be another 15 minutes to get it or she would fry up some sliced pepperoni and put it on an already cold pizza. I told her she can keep all the cold food and I want my money back. We left and will never return to this place again. Poor management and worse customer service. read more

I have been a long time patron, and have always enjoyed the food. The quality in the years have stayed quite steady. BUT their customer service is horrible. On 2 separate Thursday occasions ( not on key busy nights...weekends ) I had called for a delivery order, and both times the person on the other end stated " OK, we'll get there when we get there" first time a male, second time a female. The first delivery came in an hour ( I live 1.2 miles away ) and the food was barely warm and had to be reheated. The second time I asked the woman what "we'll get there when we get there" meant and she stated "it means, we'll get there when we get there" after asking 2 more times she stated within the hour, the order came in 20 mins and temp and food was good. We told the delivery driver about both experiences with whom ever answers there phone and he agreed that not only was is rude but unprofessional. So...John and marys....it think you need to have a bit of a chat with your employees. Noone likes a rude teenager. read more

I am a frequent customer with John& Mary's. My favorite place for subs, their royal subs are my favorite. Ive been to very single one and never complained because service and food were always amazing!! Today I called the one on Buffalo Rd in Lackawanna to order food for delivery. Before calling I put their address in my GPS. John & Mary's is 4.2 miles from my house. When I Called to place my order, the cashier was unsure of the street name because she had asked a man in the background. She came back to the phone and said they don't deliver here, I tried explaining to her I put it on my GPS and she said we only deliver a 5 mile radius... I then again explained that it was only 4.2 miles and she said again we don't go over a 5 mile radius. Maybe she wasn't comprehending what I said or what not then she just hung up on me. I had a fairly large order too. Never had 1 bad thing to say about John & Mary's until today. Not that I want to but I have to order thru some place else now.
