Had a yearly checkup done in April. Technician, after finishing, recommended $7.1K for system enhancements on systems JCF installed 4 years ago. Also, estimate of 4.6K to replace a water heater. Their water heater cost, by itself, was $4K for a 50 gallon unit. Home Depot has 50 gal water heaters (gas) for around $700 for the unit itself. During the checkup, technician never put gauges on either unit to check coolant. Also, technician forgot to put outside unit disconnect back in, which I discovered after turning unit on for first time and house wasn't cooling. I found the disconnect sitting by disconnect box. I don't recommend John C. Flood. read more

I had a sewage back up which came up through the overflow pipe in my laundry room and water was every where, not only was it water but waste also. I called JC Flood & from the customer service I was very impressed, they sent Damon Hatcher. This guy was amazing, he knew how to open the main sewage line and found exactly where the problem was. He cut the pipe and snaked over 90ft. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable cleaned up behind himself. I should have call JC Flood first, I called My plumber first who sent a rookie out, he couldn't even open the main sewage line. I will always use JC Flood & request Damon Hatcher. Very mixed experience with Flood. They tend to upsell and overcharge. I believe their techs get a commission for new sales, and asked about this but got a confusing response. They installed a new system and did an excellent job. On another system they left a lead uncoupled with shorted out the air handler and only after 5 calls did they replace the circuit board. They sold me on cleaning my air handler motors but gave a fixed price of $495 per , while other companies do it much cheaper on an hourly basis. Basically an expensive upsell. The found a leak in an ac coil and suggested we replace a three year condenser. A second opinion from another company verified no leak. Do your homework when dealing with Flood. Do your homework - Get a quote before hiring. We've been a Flood customer for a number of years. They've been professional and do decent work. And their fees have seemed somewhat reasonable. However, we had them clean two bathroom drains yesterday (non-emergency) and they billed us $439 for the sink drain, which was pretty well clogged, and $339 for the tub, which was not (more of a proactive cleaning). The plumber was at our house for about an hour! When I called to ask them to explain the rate, I was told it's a flat rate for each drain. I find this surprising, since most plumbers charge based on an hourly rate (plus the occasional additional charge for equipment, etc.). Inflation is one thing, but this exorbitant charge feels like something else. So, call before them come out, unless you think $800 seems like a reasonable amount to pay for two drain cleanings. read more

Mr. Dale Gunn, Sr. is an outstanding HVAC technician. My equipment is not exactly new, but I keep it up. Mr. Gunn cleaned the equipment, added a device to the outside unit and made the whole system run more smoothly and efficiently, for which I was very grateful. I recently had a small half bathroom remodeled. Jeffrey B. was attentive and he did everything himself, from installing the toilet, sink, and the tile, along with plumbing issues we had. He was honest with any problems he may have encountered, and provided a solution. They stayed within the agreed upon estimate. Shawn Goodman came to fix our AC. Did a great job. I got very prompt (next day service when I called late at night). Shawn came the next day, and carefully examined the entire system. He replaced the faulty part. We had AC again! We needed a second adjustment later that day, and he returned promptly again. Responsive, Professional and Kind! Yes one pays a surcharge for parts from a company that does repairs, but the work was done promptly by a courteous, dedicated, professional. Worth the price to have a responsive company. read more

I've been a loyal John C Flood customer for many many years. They're not the cheapest option for plumbing or HVAC but they're the most reliable and their communication is top notch (text messages that accurately predict the technician's arrival with their full name and photo so you know who is showing up at your door and when! Can't say enough about how great that is). Bruce Crane was the lead technician on a massive plumbing issue that came up involving our cast iron main sewer line. I never thought I'd leave a 5 star review after spending such a fortune on plumbing work, but the technicians all did a wonderful job of explaining the issues as they arose, presenting options without pressure, and keeping me updated on their progress. I contacted John C. Flood because my electric heat pump had a coolant leak in the evaporator coil. They sent me an excellent technician who was very knowledgeable and diagnosed the problem quickly. Unfortunately, that was the end of my positive interactions with this contractor. I was told I would get a quote on replacing the coil the day after the technician visit. I did not actually get a quote until well over a week later, after I had followed up by phone more than once. When I called back to discuss actually replacing the coil, the rep was unavailable, and I've never heard from him since despite leaving messages and asking their customer service rep to have him call me back. I eventually went with a different contractor who completed the entire job in less than two weeks. In addition, on multiple occasions I spoke with customer service reps who did not answer the phone professionally and who sounded like they would rather be doing anything else besides assisting customers - I used to answer phones as a Congressional intern and I know how a courteous phone rep should conduct him or herself. The technician is the only reason I'm giving this contractor more than one star. Would not recommend. read more

I was under the impression from what I read on their website that the diagnostic fee would be waived if I had the repairs done right away. It wasn't. It was added on to the repair cost. I was charged a total of $639.00 to replace a burnt out capacitor. A part I discovered cost less than $20 online. Outrageous! We recently went through our first sewer line failure (old Orangeburg pipes finally gave in just about a week ago), and as one might imagine, this was a pretty traumatic ordeal. Through internet searches and having seen their trucks around the neighborhood while walking the dog (because most of the houses here were built in the 50s and 60s), I put John C. Flood on the list of companies to call. My mother-in-law thought this a was good decision, because apparently they've been serving the area for decades. As it turns out, this was indeed one of my better life choices. John C. Flood was out at the house within about an hour of my having made my SOS call, made a diagnosis, and quoted a very reasonable price for the work that was necessary. They were out the next day to begin work and we now have a shiny new sewer line (and probably the most expensive birthday gift I've ever purchased the wife - ha!)! The John C. Flood team has been nothing but timely, courteous, and professional from start to finish - would definitely use them again. We'll see if the grass seed they put down actually works - I laughed, skeptically, and told them that the only thing I've managed to grow here have been weeds, but they promise it'll grow grass anywhere. The plumber was excellent. He diagnoses and fixed my leaking sink in 20 minutes. However, I was charged $395 for 20 minutes of labor. That's an hourly rate of $1,185. There were no parts to be replaced, not even any tools required, just 20 minutes of his bare hands. I shudder to think what the cost would have been if the bathroom sink leak repair was even moderately complex or involved parts replacement. read more

Called to repair simple toilet running issue. John Plank, a "Master Pumber" told us the toilet needed to be replaced for $1100. Never sent us the estimate to repair toilet rather than replace which he told us was $700. Called another Plumbing Company which sent a knowledgeable plumber who fixed the toilet for $220. read more

I still hold out hope that I will get a response after 4 calls. Essentially a technician came over and replaced the relief valve on the water heater after our basement flooded. Within one hour after he departed, the valve opened again, this time fire-hot water pouring out. This was a misdiagnosis, missing that the water temperature control was malfunctioning. Therefore, after paying $2,700 for the initial repair, we had to rip all of that out and buy a new water heater (which costs MUCH more). I understand that there can be mistakes, but I do not believe the customer needs to pay for $2,700 worth of oversight. Hopefully this can be resolved before small claims. read more
