Their response to my call and complaint was "our prices are our prices" We used licensed personnel to do the jobs and again were charged 75% LESS than what JM wanted. Wow! I should have read the reviews first. It's true. Stay away from these guys! Don't let the warm commercials and catchy jingle fool you. I called them to fix a leak in my sink. The guy came out and spent five minutes at the sink and half an hour, trying to sell me some unnecessary water heater maintenance for thousands of dollars. Of course, after he left, the sink was still leaking, worse than before. I called and asked them to come back and fix it. They declined to do so, and offered me a refund. OK, I will take the refund and get another plumber. The other plumber came and fixed the sink and no time flat. Easy fix. Six weeks and several phone calls later. Still waiting on that refund. They did not fix the problem and are trying like hell to keep the money. And it was a simple problem. Just terrible!! read more

These people are nuts! Was told my plenum needed to be replaced because of a hole in it and 3 dampers needed replacing. When they inspected the hot water heater for a flush, they told me it would cost $1700 (it's 4 yrs old). I can replace the hot water heater for $800! The a/c unit is 4 years old and he told me it was urgent that I get all this work done for $2300! My new neighbor is a retired HVAC man. He came over and looked at everything. He said, "easy fix" I just needed some foil tape and a sealant (total cost about $40). Don't call them unless you want to pay a ridiculous amount of money for nothing! read more

Not trustworthy customer care. Sold me the membership and scheduled a priority appointment. Within an hour they call back and pushed the appt out by 2 months!! Rude customer care rep. Reimbursement of the amount they charged me an hour ago will apparently take 7-10 days for return to my account after verifying with supervisor tomorrow. I was told that no confirmation will be sent for the cancelation and that i'd need to call back if i needed to verify the amount is being processed. They try to take advantage of elderly people. My 92 year old grandfather had an overflowing toilet that was causing water to go through the garage wall. The toilet in a second bathroom began to overflow, as well. A rep from John Moore came out and told me and my grandfather that the toilet was the problem and that it and the shut off valve had to be replaced. He said there's no way those things couldn't be done. He said the service would need to be scheduled and would cost 1400.00 (my grandfather was going to order a 22 inch high toilet). However, the neighbor came over for free and plunged the old toilet, which has stopped all overflow problems from both bathrooms. They wasted a lot of my time away from work and quickly got a special crew (a person) over here to try to get my grandfather's son to quickly file an insurance claim to replace a little piece of carpet and wall, which they claimed was sewage. Our neighbor said it wasn't sewage because the toilet was flushing waste down. It only overflowed when toilet filled back up. read more

He lied about both. When I told him I was calling the people who installed it he admitted you can buy R22 and my system was 2013. Quoted me $6600 to repair. Highly disappointed. I called a made a request. I provided my information and informed the lady that I lived in Downtown Houston. She provided a date and time (between 4-8PM). The day of the appointment, the tech called at 6:48 PM, I asked him if he was familiar with downtown and he said no. I was trying to explain where to park and he proceeded to tell me the building and service we requested was "out of their scope" and he would have to check with his manager. My husband said, "Just call back and cancel the appointment, we'll get someone else". We had thought about them as well for electrical service in our unit, but that was short-lived with the lack of customer service. I would expect this from a small business company. Do NOT John Moore for ANYTHING! All they want to do is rip you off and sell you things you don't even need just so they can make more money. I called John Moore because my hot water heater stopped working a few months ago but I hadn't had the money to fix it at that time. I assumed it just needed new heating elements but that was just my best guess - I had no idea what was actually wrong. They sent Rey to my home - a project manager - not a plumber. He stood in my house with his iPad - never once touched the hot water heater or anything else and basically told me if it had stopped working that long ago he wouldn't be able to remove the elements because they would be too calcified and they might break when he took them out so then I would REALLY need a whole new hot water heater except the only option available to me anyway was an entirely new hot water heater plus some sort of special drain etc and it would require pulling a permit etc all for $5666. I can't afford that so I told him thanks but no thanks. Called a different plumber. Assumed it was heating elements - he drained the tank, removed the elements with almost no effort - they were not damaged and only bottom one was lightly calcified. They did not appear broken - but he replaced them anyway. It still didn't work. So replaced the breaker to see if perhaps that was the problem. It wasn't. Turns out there was a box on the wall where the power cord comes from to the hot water heater and there had been a short there. That was the only problem. So John Moore would have charged me $5k+ for new hot water heater for nothing and then God knows how much more to fix the electrical issue that was actually the problem all because their guy showed up, did zero diagnostics, and gave me only one option to purchase something I didn't need at a completely ridiculous price! Stay away - they are crooks who only want your $ and give you zero options besides just paying for things you do not even need that will not even fix the problem. read more

I recently had a salesman from John Moore come to give me an estimate for a whole house repipe due to the recent ice storm. Because the price I was given was so high, I told the salesman that I would wait and get other estimates. He then took advantage of our near desperate need and said we should sign now or the date for the project would get pushed back even further. He said that as long as I cancel more than 24 hours before the project start date, I would get all of my money back minus the 10 minutes of work he did to repair the crack at the main water line to the house. That convinced me to sign because there was no risk. I contacted the salesman the next day to cancel because the price was just too high. My refund check had $800 withheld from it! It is obvious that lie tactics were used to get me to sign the contract. It seems that John Moore Services is taking advantage of people in a desperate situation due to a natural disaster. $800 for 10 minutes of work when I was told several times that I would get all of my money back minus the cost for the 10 minutes of work is extremely excessive. I have contacted John Moore three times about this and sent a complaint through the Better Business Bureau and no one from John Moore has contacted me to resolve this. read more

I decided to call John Moore when I purchased my home. The house was old and the heating and cooling system needed to be replaced. I agreed to pay over $15,000. I also purchased insulation for the attic. I waited right before my warranty expired . I called them to service my equipment and the gentleman wrote up a thousand dollar receipt. Needless to say they did absolutely nothing. Even though I still had the warranty. They wanted me to buy another warranty even after they didn't do anything with the one I had. They do a great job on selling their VIP services, their financing, and they do a good enough job of quickly scheduling coming out to give an estimate. They do a much worse job of actually scheduling and doing the real work AND their prices are absurd. They quoted $4000 for a hot water heater. I got it done for $1600 from a competitor. I needed a pipe fixed in an emergency after a winter freeze issue. $1200 charge for 1 hour of work and $100 in parts. read more

John Moore services tried to scam me! It is complete false advertising from the commercials. They come to gouge you! I needed the water valve replaced behind my fridge. First the technician wanted to see the water heater and promptly told me it needed to be replaced. It is in perfect working condition with zero corrosion or noise or wear and tear. Then he looked under the sink and said More corrosion! It is a newly updated kitchen with no corrosion. (I am female and could tell from his attitude he thought I was stupid) He finally looked at the valve behind the fridge, hitting the newly painted wall scrapping off my paint, which I pointed out and he said I didn't fo that!!!!! What??? Then he proceeded to tell me that it is a valve connected to the pipe and can't be replaced. He needs to cut the wall, cut the pipe, fuse a new pipe and fix the wall. Total $3000. I moaned and he said he could do pipe/valve repair for $1300 and leave the wall open. For $2000 he will put back on the wall and not float or paint the sheet rock!!! I said Thanks but no thanks!!! My gut was screaming at me NO! I called a local plumber, Brad's Plumbing, and for $200 they replaced the valve. No cutting pipes, no cutting walls. 20 minutes and job was done! DO NOT USE JOHN MOORE! Unfortunately I had plumbing work done by John Moore. I have no idea if the work was any good or not, I'm not a plumber. I do know that it is extremely overpriced, both parts and labor. I went into shock when I heard how much they charge to put p-trap back after using that drain to snake the pipe. I should have stopped the work there, and I feel taken advantage of because of my lack of knowledge in this area. I am very unhappy with John Moore Plumbing. I had to have a 100' section of my sewer pipe replaced to the city line. It involved jackhammering through my pea-gravel patio (about 40 ft) and additional trench line through the yard (about 20 ft). It was a very expensive job, and I agreed to price. The job was completed in mid-May 2022. PROBLEM 1: The patio was poorly repaired. (See attached pictures). I understand that concrete related items are difficult to repair/match, but the job looked like a kid did the work. In May, I asked that the job be done right, and the concrete guy did come out and look at it, and agreed to repair it. However, he was no show to several scheduled start dates. It is now Sept, and the job is still not repaired. In fact, the repair job is getting in worse condition. PROBLEM 2: The sewer pipe has now begun to to have issues again. I asked for them to diagnose the issue. I was told that plant roots have now grown in the 10 ft section of pipe between the house and the start point of the last repair. The tech is absolutely positive the roots were not there four months ago. I find it amazing that roots can grow so rapidly in the middle of a 1,000 sq ft section of concrete. Their suggestion is that I pay another large charge to bust through the other part of my patio. So, 1. The repair job they did to my patio was terrible. 2. The service to repair the patio is terrible. 3. The plumbing (sewer pipe) problem still remains, and I am expected to pay more to fix the same problem they were supposed to fix in May. read more

Wanted Pest Control services, and the technician recommended insulation in my attic. I have a full size attic with partiail floors and an uninsulated ceiling (old house). So I was thinking he was going to insulate the attic so I could use it for another room eventually. Was charged $4500 and they blew in insulation on the floor of my attic. They blew insulation all over the stuff that I had stored up there also. (No wonder the guys performing the service were so confused!) Then, when I tried to contact customer service, I told them I needed them to call me AFTER school (I am a teacher) and they kept calling during the school day. For months..back and forth. Then the insulation started coming through my A/C vents. Finally I made an appointment for the removal of the insulation. I asked them if they were going to refund me, and they said they were actually going to charge MORE for removing it. The technician ended up calling me and kept saying that I could 'store' stuff on top of the blown in insulation. He explained that I should have known the kind of insulation that was being installed, even though I did NOT know that. I wanted the other kind of insulation so that I could USE the attic, not make it so I couldn't go up there at all. I told him I would just eat the $4000, because I was tired of talking to someone that kept explaining how I was wrong. $4000 mistake is hitting this middle school teacher pretty hard. Don't fall for Don Valentine's commercials for a free estimate. That's crap. John Moore Services (JMS) came out to check my air conditioner and told me it would be $229 to check the freon lines. They said the need to put a little freon in the line to check it and the fee was for the freon. Freon costs JMS $25 a pound they used less than 1/10th of a pound, so about $2.50 worth and wanted to charge me $229. I sent the JMS tech away and call another HVAC tech who check the lines and included the freon in my $65 service fee. DO NOT USE John Moore Services!!! read more

I scheduled John Moore Services to came to my home 5/11/2022 to diagnose and evaluate problem A/C system not working. Their technician advised the fan motor was not working and would have to be replaced before they could diagnose the condenser at a cost of $1300 to $1500. He further said of course you run the risk of the compressor being found bad once the fan was replaced and working thus rolling the dice on possibly losing the $1300 to $1500 spent to replace the fan. He recommended replacing the whole condenser at a cost of $8600 but also recommended replacing the coil in the attic for an additional $3000 to $4000. I initially agreed but had second thoughts later in day and cancelled the work. This morning 5/12/2022 I had another company come out and they performed their diagnostic tests and found a blown capacitor which they replaced in under an hour for $341. From the onset and his entire team at xxx have been exceptionally courteous and honest in working with me to resolve my problem. They have been more concerned about getting me up and running rather than selling me something I didn't need. Bless you boys! Always get a second opinion! Not happy with John Moore needless to say. I guess all those TV commercials cost a lot of money. Wouldn't recommend John Moore to replace a light bulb! Horrible, dishonest company! read more

DO NOT USE! John Moore came out to my house for a plumbing issue which they claimed they fixed and charged me $225. The issue was NOT fixed, then they charged me another $400 to simply pull a toilet, show me I had one (1) break in my line and gave me an estimate of $12,000+ to dig under the house to fix the line AND refused to put the toilet back because the plumber claimed it was unsafe. Of course I called someone else for a second opinion. Guess what? I actually have 3 breaks in my line! I was charged $400 by this second company to have two (2) toilets pulled and put back, full static testing to ensure the plumber had a full understanding of the TOTAL situation. I will be paying $7,000 for the digging under my house to fix three locations. John Moore was more than happy to charge me almost $13k and guess what, I still would have had an issue because they were so sloppy in their work that they would have missed the other two breaks. Before writing this review, I tried to get some type of refund, however, the only John Moore was willing to do was give me credit for future work. So this is only my third time *ever*posting to Yelp but I feel compelled to do so. Do not use John Moore and save yourself the dishonesty and headache we are currently mired in. Long story short - our 60 year old concrete sewer line backed up into our house - had three plumbing companies come out to give estimates. First two were around $9000 and told us they would need to rip up our brand new (and expensive) deck to access the line. These guys were the third estimate - quoted us about $7000 and told us no worries, they could tunnel underneath to avoid ruining our new deck. We should have realized then that the much lower estimate was a red-flag.... Three days later....the price has gone from $7000 to $10000 to now $18000 (!) because suddenly they have decided the tunneling option was not viable. Along with a host of other "unforeseen" additions to the project. Today they have refused to answer calls and no one has even shown up to our house. They have abandoned the job and we have already paid half of the original estimate. Our house and yard look like a war zone (see the WWI-esque trenches in the photo, ha), we can't use water in half of our house, and the flood mitigation project (new sheetrock, etc.) inside our house is now on hold until we get new plumbers to come out and help us. We are not persons to normally post or complain about a business, but this situation is completely unacceptable. read more

Got an outrageous bid from their plumber to fix a simple leak under a sink ($963). Got someone else that fixed it with $20 parts and took 30 minutes. The fix did not require any cutting or gluing just some realignment of the flow of water. The other proposal they gave was to reroute which would cost over $3000. Absolutely nuts. read more

I am giving 2 stars because of the double work I had to do. I called John Moore for electrical work to be done in the kitchen. The electrician was able to get connection to partial area. He said there is a wiring issue under the tiles and said the tiles need to be broken, new wires installed and then he would seal it up. So I called another company to get estimates on breaking tiles and placing new tiles. John Moore wanted $2900 and $1800 for labor for tiles (not including materials). The cost and the thought of all the clean up drove me crazy. I then decided to call another company. That company fixed the wiring issue where John Moore couldn't because he said it was under the tiles. A month later, the same outlet John Moore worked on stopped working. I called the second electrician to come fix THEIR MISTAKE. Everything the electrician said about the wiring was a LIE or a tactic to get more money. Honesty was not used here and it was frustrating to have the same electrical issue worked on 3 times. read more

Called to schedule service and got confirmation that the service was $69. When technician arrived, he said John Moore was no longer offering the $69 special - the charge would be $129. He said yeah sleeping in the heat because there's no way to fix my ac. Well that was a lie. I don't recommend for dishonest. The temp in Houston are in the 100s and lying to families to get commission is not good. I'm laying on my couch with A/C blowing cold air thanks to someone off of Next Door.
