If I could give negative stars I would...RUN from this company. Had issue with AC, called and was told FREE inspection to find out issue and give quote to fix. Lady said you all don't have to go with us, we're just glad to be given the opportunity to win your business. Tech walked in and IMMEDIATELY said we had to pay $425 for diagnostic without checking anything, literally just entered front door. We said no thanks and he went down on price, we still said no and he agreed to take cost off of repair if we had it done and said it was so expensive because diagnostic of AC takes HOURS. I told him I didn't trust that he wouldn't add to repair just to act like he was deducting it and I was not going to agree to pay as we were told FREE estimate. He said he was offended by my words and I told him sorry if you're offended but I'm blunt and this is my house. He went up in attic and in less than 5 minutes he came down and said it was a damper...what happened to hours to diagnose??? He then quoted price and in same breath said our ducts had a cut in each one...WHAT THE HELL, no one had been in attic since we had new AC installed about 10 years ago other than my husband/son and if they were cut they would of seen it and we would of had issues before now. I truly believe he did it, although I can't prove it. As I was on phone with their customer service, I told him even if we had them do the repair I did not want him to complete it...he then asked for $425 and I said good luck with that, get out of my house. We had a break in the main sewer line about 10 feet under the house. They were a reasonable bid from a known company so we went with them. Once the project started all communication stopped. Texts and calls have gone unanswered. Random crews show up or are dropped off at our house without warning. Our AC main drain line is now leaking inside the walls, possibly due to their work, but who knows since you can't get in touch with them. I would never wish this company on anyone. I get sick every time I see their commercials about being honest. I had them replace an entire AC and furnace and wanted a like unit to what I had top of the line Trane. They put in a Lunex unit that was not even close to what I had. Not only was the unit cheap and noisy, but the installers were horrible. They damaged the outside unit on install, also they damaged my walls, didn't turn off the gas when then unhooked it and filled the house with gas. When they turned it on, insulation from my attic blew out all the vents, and I didn't have the same air flow as before replacing. After they left, I decided to check out all the function and found out the furnace did not work. It took another three trips to get this thing working. My fault I trusted this company, so be aware they are crooks in what they charged me. I would advise not to use them. read more

I will never hire them again for anything. My house could be flooded, my toilet could overflow and cover my entire house with sh*t and I wouldn't call them. Billing is awful. Paid a large percentage of a plumbing job when the job was started. Never received a final invoice with a balance due after the job was completed, only a "past due" balance six weeks later. Paid the "balance due" then and thought it was done. Now, four months later, received a call from their collector saying that there was still a balance due. Apparently different parts of the job were invoiced separately and all charges were not on my first "balance due" notice. What a ridiculous procedure for billing a customer! Don't get coned, $69 main line cleaning, but that turned into, you need you need the $900 power jet, that turned into you need a new sewer (27 feet) for $8,000. I didn't bite on the $8k, so after $965 bill they said it should last a few years and the clean out was "guaranteed" for a year and would fix it for free... 1 month later it stop up again, they did clean it again, but now they told us since they had to fix it the 1 year guarantee is now void, & need the $8k replacement. Our experience with John Moore was so awful that I'm compelled to warn others. The company is thoroughly dishonest and charges exorbitant prices. We needed a gas leak repaired. The plumber lied and told us that they were legally required to bring all of the plumbing in the house up to code before they could release us to have the gas turned back on. By the way, that included bringing their roofer in to modify the vent pipes and re-roof the area. We argued, but he insisted that was by law. We were desperate for heat and hot water in January and reluctantly accepted his nearly $10,000 quote. Several contractor friends contacted me to tell me that repairs don't trigger code repairs to the entire house. Multiple neighbors told us to break the contract and told us about their own horror stories with John Moore. JM had already sent a couple of laborers out to dig a hole just before we canceled the contract. The digging took them 15 minutes and the hole was 34" long. John Moore charged us $1,100 for the hole. The honest plumbers charged us a total of $1,600 for the repairs. More than half of the repairs that JM insisted were "legally required" were completely unnecessary. The honest plumbers laughed at both the size and cost of the hole. Btw, they filled it up for free. This is the company's business model. The stories friends told me go back 20 years. Reportedly, JM employees are on commission. I should have known something was wrong when the plumber called into the office and said he was on a "sales call", not a repair job. Stay away from John Moore. Talk to your friends and neighbors to get referrals to honest service people. Always get multiple quotes. read more

I would not recommend John Moore Services. There is a lack of transparency in billing and I was mislead about cost before agreeing to services. I was told that it would cost over $9000 to replace my tankless water heater. The reason I was given is that they only install commercial quality products that are better quality and cost more. When installing occurred I found that the new water heater was the exact same residential brand I had (just a newer model) and was only $1800 . The rest of the $9000 was apparently for them to take out the old one, and put the new one and the same spot with the same plumbing. So I was charged $7000 for less than 2 hours of work. When I called and complained about being mislead and lack of billing transparency, I was told that this is just how they do it. Call any other company if you want transparency and truthfulness and fair pricing. I can see why their rating is so low, I guess this is partially my fault for not checking reviews because the only way this will change is if they start to lose business and apparently they haven't yet. read more

I would give no stars if I could. This is a terrible company. I called them to come out to work on my water pressure and they told me the problem was my hot water heater and I needed a new hot water heater and a filtration system plus new cartridges on all my faucets. $10,000 price was quoted. I told them they were ridiculous so miraculously they changed the quote to $5,000. I paid them 1/2 up front. They were just going to install a 40 gal hot water heater. (I currently had a 48 gal top of the line heater) I inquired about a tankless hot water heater and they told me I didn't have enough water pressure for it to work plus the cost would be $8000. After they left I did some research and this price I discovered was way way too much so I called to cancel the installation and ask for a total refund of what I had prepaid. After calling to be hung up on 3 times and then being told only a manager could cancel or refund my money but there was no manager in the office. I asked to be called back by a manager. That never happened so I called again, was hung up on, called again and finally got a person to be told the same thing. I made a huge scandal with the customer service rep and finally got a refund 2 days later. Thank you for that. I then called Dynamic Trade Services. Wonderful honest company. They came out and fixed the water pressure problem $200. And said the water heater was working just fine. I decided to change it anyway since it was 12 years old. Absolute scam artists. I was having a French drain installed and was told it would take 2 days. It's now been 5 days, they randomly drop off workers that aren't even contracted out, which is super disappointing given the huge price tag. They'll be here for an hour to two hours and go. I spoke with one that had gotten picked up at a Home Depot!! How is that not a huge liability for a company?? They also did an awful, patch work job that we now will have to pay to have another company fix. UPDATE: the only exception to this review is Eileen and Renee - 2 of the installation managers. From scheduling to delivery, it was straight forward. My tech, Dante was amazing. He's smart, professional, diligent, and personable. He helped me understand what he was doing and how to improve my system. We talked about the age and condition of my existing HVAC system. He discussed the condition of parts and future replacement options. It felt like I was talking to a friend, a valued customer with a trusted source. Amazing. The technician John Moore sent to my home initially was extremely inappropriate, texting me photos of his genitalia while on-site and calling me from his personal cell phone during the following days. I felt extremely unsafe and made sure male neighbors were on the phone throughout the visit. The second individual sent out left garbage and supplies all over my lawn. The "completed" work resulted in additional expenses. I called John Moore repeatedly in hopes of speaking with someone in a supervisory role. Arguably the worst customer service experience. I do not recommend John Moore for Pest/Rodent Control. I signed up for quarterly pest control/rodent service which include spraying for pests and checking the attic for inspecting mice/rat traps. I was also supposed to be provided two rodent boxes for outside my home. During my recent quarterly visit, the pest/rodent control gun (Larry Munguia) refused go into the attic to check the rodent traps because he said that it was "too hot". In addition, Mr. Munguia also signed my legal name on my behalf without my knowledge that I had authorized a debit payment on a check I wrote to John Moore and also signed on my behalf stating that I was satisfied with the service provided. I also discovered that he did this on prior visits....all without my knowledge. In addition, I was never provided my two bait boxes per my contract. I was only provided one. I have tried to resolve this issue by contacting customer service but months later -- still only one bait box. I can't say that the service has been great because I've felt that I had to follow up and inquire on what has been done during the quarterly visits. However, I will say that John Moore (thanks Jose!) did an excellent job with the intrusion work around my house. read more

This company has no idea of what they are doing. Last year had a leak in our roof. They come out, and can't find a leak. Sales rep decided it was a new air conditioning unit we needed.....it will only cost us 18K, for unit (bigger) and all new duct work. Ok, if that's what we need. Next day rain again and water dripping on my table STILL. 2 more reps come out ..no leak. 3rd rep comes out and fully checks out and does his job. Guess what......we have a leak. We already knew that. In the meantime, they continued to put in a new system that we didn't need. Now we have a leak in there system that has now leaked into the hallway. Waited 2 days for these guys to show up and they are arguing with me in text about a appt. DON'T EVER CALL THIS COMPANY TO DO ANYTHING!!!! He explained what he was doing, answered all my questions(which I had a lot ) took his time to make sure my unit was running efficiently before he left. I chose a 2 star rating because Yelp categorizes it as "Could have been better". I have been a customer of John Moore Services for about 10 years continuously. I've used mostly quarterly pest control but I have had them do some plumbing and electrical a few times. I always knew that they were a bit pricey and have sought out competing quotes for bigger electrical jobs. I recently started having pretty terrible problems with them. They became convinced that I hadn't paid them for several services. I looked into it and saw that I had paid them. I provided dates and amounts. That was not good enough. I had my bank send them proof of cancelled checks. They claimed they did not receive the proof. I sent them the copies of the cancelled checks myself and they still did not react. (The checks clearly have a John Moore stamp on the back!!) I've spent about 8 hours on the phone over the last two months with various people in their organization who are all nice and promise to get things fixed and then they never do. Here are the standard responses: - I'll have someone call you back tomorrow b/c I can't access those records. (no call back) - We replaced our billing system and are having all sorts of problems. (Apparently so) - I'm sorry for the inconvenience, I'll escalate this to the manager (then no contact at all). - I've told them to (not sure who "them" is) that you provided proof of payment. I don't know why it isn't showing up in the system. Long story short: In my opinion, they have terrible customer service. They are pleasant but ineffective. I am moving on to another company to provide my pest control services. I wish I could send them a bill for my time. With regard to the standard Yelp questions about: Did they provide good value for their service? I wrote no b/c they are consistently about 20% higher in price than other vendors in the area. If I could leave 0 stars I would. A review below mentions the word "predator" and that exactly describes our experience with Mr. Khaki Pants. Our toliet was leaking around the base and at 3 o'clock on a Friday afternoon not a plumber, but a salesman shows up. Khaki pants, a clipboard, and a moisture detector meter. No wrench or butt crack in sight. All Mr. Khaki Pants did was press the moisture detector on base of the vanity and proclaimed to my 80 year-old mother the vanity, sheetrock, and everything needed to be ripped out, but not to worry because homeowners insurance will pay for it. Yep. Can you say insurance fraud? I couldn't believe it. I quickly escorted Mr. Khaki Pants to the door and was left to console my poor mother. She worried the entire weekend about the mold he proclaimed was lurking in the walls and all the repairs and remodeling required. I contacted a real plumber Monday and as I suspected all we needed was an O ring. Pretty simple. I am embarrassed for Mr. Valentine, the owner of John Moore. The company needs to go old school. A plumber needs to show up with a toolbox, above mentioned butt crack, and get the job done. It really is that simple. read more

TLDR: Do not believe anything you hear in the ads - they will ask you for money during the free estimates, and then not provide you with any of the basics, such as a written estimate, or photos of your property. Requested a plumber to look at a potential leak underneath the house as a foundation guy mentioned checking the pipes as the reason for foundation issues. I contacted John Moore to take a look and get an estimate on what it would take to fix the pipes, if there indeed was a leak. I was charged $250 for running a camera underneath the house, and then they said they couldn't actually see in the pipes and it would cost another THOUSANDS of dollars to get the pipes cleared. After the visit, the technician sent me the invoice for $250, and not the actual estimate, nor the photos that he took. I called the office and asked them to send both on the same day. I got the estimate on the call, but it did was missing most of the items discussed. The office representative stated that he would arrange a call with the technician, which wasn't necessary, but I agreed to as it couldn't hurt. I specifically requested that the updated estimates and photos before the call with the technician. A little over a year ago I had John Moore Company do an AC check on my working AC. They said the coil was faulty and would for sure break in 1-2 years. As I work in this space to have AC down is loss of income for me-- so at their recommendation I replaced the coil for about 4500. Then the coil THEY put in broke a little over a year since they installed it (the previous one was working 8 years after installation). Now the company wants to charge 1800 to replace the coil THEY put in about a year ago!! In addition I have no AC. I was already worried about this company because when they came last year to unclog a toilet-- they did not use a tool big enough and so had to return with a bigger tool--BUT CHARGED for both visits. I saw all the ads on TV from the owner and never did trust his smiling face. He looked like a ripoff artist talking about how his mother always told him to "be an honest man" and all that other BS. Anyway, my kitchen sink got plugged with coffee grinds this morning and I remembered he had a $49 special going on so I gave him a call. When the technician was done the bill for the job was actually $320 because he said the P-trap connections were glued on versus screw-on. I should have trusted my instincts and not fallen for this classic "bait and switch". If you read other reviews, you'll see he has a long reputation for over-charging the customer and upselling basic services. I don't normally post reviews unless a service or product is really bad. Replacement residential HVAC for 18 year old system. Likely should have checked the reviews here as the majority are negative and I would not have wasted my time. If no stars were possible, that's where I would be. They have great advertising and come across as trustworthy, competent, etc. Maybe that's the first clue, being able to afford TV spots. I needed 2 ea. 4 ton units including the heating, so complete HVAC replacement. The sales guy was very nice, very engaging (Diego Ferreyra). And, I think, knowledgeable. His quote, however, was for over $38,000. Effectively, more than the value of my cars and boat, half the cost of a college education in-state, . In 2019 I got estimates for the same work that would have cost about $12,000. So, certainly hesitant on this one. And, in retrospect, should have pulled the trigger on that one as prices only go up, right? I had two other suppliers lined up for quotes and they both came in at about $17,000, less than half the Moore quote. So, very disappointed at the integrity of this company. Bottom line, get 3 quotes from different vendors. Each will use different equipment (American Standard, RUUD, Lennox, TRANE, whatever) but the major vendors are largely equivalent in reliability and efficiency. read more
