January we called because our hot water heater was leaking. Bowman's came out quickly (for a $130 service charge), confirmed it was leaking, and told us it was under warranty. We were informed they would contact us within a few days to schedule the replacement. More than a month later, after numerous unanswered calls and messages, I finally reached someone who scheduled the replacement for the end of that week. However, we were then told the labor cost would be $1,500. The installers themselves were great, but unfortunately the experience with the company left a very bad impression. The installation took a little over an hour, and when I called to ask about the labor charge, I was told it was simply a flat installation fee. It felt like the warranty ultimately provided little value because the labor cost essentially offset any benefit. I reached out to discuss paying what seemed like a fair labor amount and to see if there was any flexibility, but true to the overall experience, my call was never returned. There are too many companies that value customer service and long-term relationships to continue supporting one that doesn't respond or work toward a reasonable solution. Losing a long-time customer may not matter to them, but it matters to me. I would recommend looking elsewhere, as my experience was that the warranty meant very little, communication was poor, and management never made an effort to resolve the situation. July 2026: Bowmans finally came out to "fix" the HVAC two weeks ago and this morning it ceased again. The office manager, Jennifer, was rude and curt on the phone when scheduling yet another service call to my house. Again she would not provide me with a name or contact info to escalate this saga. The only reason I continue to use Bowmans is the warranty. There are many, many other choices of companies for others. Choose wisely, not Bowmans. June 2026: We are now six months without HVAC and I just found out Bowmans never ordered the parts to repair my HVAC... even though it is fully warrantied for parts and labor by them. And now the office manager Jennifer will not return my phone calls after getting American Standard (Trane) involved. May 2026: My HVAC system is under a parts and labor warranty with Bowmans. However, they have failed to properly service the system or obtain the necessary parts to complete repairs for over four months. As a result, we have been left without both air conditioning and heat. Despite the urgency of this issue, there has been no clear timeline for repair, no meaningful communication, and no resolution. Bowman Plumbing has been highly recommended by our community, but based on my recent experience, they have completely lost my trust. I will be sharing this experience with the community as well. We called on Tuesday morning to schedule an appointment for Wednesday afternoon to address a leak. On Wednesday morning and again in the afternoon, we called twice to confirm the appointment and were told each time that it was confirmed and that we would receive a text when the technician was on the way. No one showed up by 3:00 PM. When I called again, I was told that the appointment was actually scheduled for Thursday morning. No one could explain what had changed, only offering an apology. Despite this, we gave them another chance and scheduled a Thursday morning appointment, which required us to take time off work and stay home again. Once more, no one showed up. When I called, I was then told the appointment was scheduled for 2:00 PM, not the morning. I was told that it had originally been scheduled for the morning, that a message was left the previous day, and that the schedule had since changed again. Jennifer, who handled the scheduling, was unprofessional and dismissive. She claimed there was an emergency that caused the schedule change but admitted no communication was sent because she was "too busy." At this point, Bowman Plumbing has completely lost my trust. If a company cannot manage its scheduling or communicate accurately with customers, I have little confidence in the quality or reliability of the work they would perform. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Bowman's for over 20 years and have referred many friends and family. Unfortunately, my most recent experience has completely changed my confidence in your company. Last week, I scheduled and confirmed an appointment to have a technician inspect a gas line connected to a dryer that Bowman's originally installed. Shortly after, I received a message stating the appointment was canceled because this service is no longer offered. When I called to clarify, I was told that Bowman's does still handle gas dryer hookups, and your website reflects the same. Based on that information, I purchased a new gas dryer and scheduled another appointment. Despite receiving confirmation, I was then contacted and told that Bowman's no longer performs gas dryer hookups. This inconsistency, along with the lack of clear communication, has been frustrating and disappointing. As a long-time customer, I expected better coordination and reliability. I'm on the fence about this company. We've used them for just over a year and have been satisfied with the service regarding our heat and air. Unfortunately this summer I contracted with them for a mini split install and before the service tech left he informed me that "the" board was fried and they would have to replace it. My understanding is that there may be two boards so which one was fried? I've made almost daily calls to find out when this might occur and in one call I was told there was not even a notation of the issue. Unfortunately, Bowman's practices seem to have changed regarding their charges for services, to the detriment of the customer. A few years ago Bowman installed a new A/C unit for me, and they did a decent job, though the technician got the thermostat wired incorrectly. I fixed it; no big deal. A few years later I had an issue with the system and a tech came out, replaced a part, and charged me the trip charge only, because the service didn't take long. Then, more recently I had another issue (turns out a part they had installed initially had gone bad). Now they unapologetically charge a trip charge, PLUS the cost of the service. And the service charge is not related to the time it takes to do the work. I was told of this practice AFTER the tech arrived, and I agreed to pay a few hundred dollars because I thought the work would be complicated and I needed the fix in a hurry. But the service took only 15 minutes. In the past, I think they would have covered the service charge in the trip charge. I spoke to a supervisor after I saw it only took 15 minutes, but he said the cost comes from the way they do charging. He considered it a project type billing rather than a time and materials charge. And that the trip charge doesn't cover anything. I won't be using them again. read more

I have used this company a few times now mostly for adding fuses for our outdoor kitchen and heater for pool. They were efficient and knowledgeable. I'm not super happy with the looks internally within my guest bedroom but it works. Also the outside outlet is not quite sealed properly and I'm afraid it cause an issue. I out a covering over it but definitely going to need it replaced. I like how quickly they were able to come by and fix each inquiry. Just not sure the full extent of the fixes, feels like it is always rushed. Could be that the jobs are not being pursued like before Covid, but electricians sure seem to be in demand. However, in my opinion, the cost of approximately $500 for snaking my clogged master bedroom toilet and replacing the flush valve and ball on another toilet, which took approximately 30 minutes, is outrageous. It equates to an hourly rate of $1,000, which is more than some of the hourly rates charged by some attorneys at prestigious law firms. Furthermore, I don't understand why a plumbing company cannot provide an estimated quote range for a specific job prior to coming to your house, for which you are charged a service fee regardless of whether you have the company perform the service. If auto service companies can provide an estimated quote range for various services, why does there appear to be a lack of transparency with plumbing companies?? Do they derive more revenue from service calls than actual services performed?? read more

One of our sinks began leaking and flowing under the bathroom sink on a Saturday afternoon. I was unable to get it to stop and the main shut off valve would not close the line all the way. I called the after hours answering service and was called back within 15 minutes. The dispatcher was friendly, informative and gave the information I needed to make a decision to the problem. We determined that service could wait until the next day. On Sunday, Jackie the service person arrived on time and fix the sink right a way. He returned on Monday morning, again when he said he would, and replaced the main shut off valve. I have used Bowman's service three times (HVAC, hot water heater & sink leaking), I have found they are professional, friendly, knowledgeable and stand by their work. We just had our entire HVAC system (furnace, AC Unit, and Evaporator coil) replaced by Bowmans. From initial contact to the very end, I had a wonderful experience. Mike answered all of my questions, provided his professional opinion and experience of available additions that could benefit our home. On his recommendation, we added an air scrubber to improve the air quality in our 1972 home and also had all of our vents cleaned. Dan and Aaron arrived in the promised time window and worked thoroughly throughout the entire day. I had asked for isolators to be installed under my furnace due to tile flooring being installed in the near future which Dan happily accommodated my request. Classic nightmare plumbing contractor experience. Unexpected because we'd used them a couple of years ago for quite a bit of plumbing work & had great experiences. Last fall, when we decided to remodel our bathrooms, we counted on our past experiences with them more than the current negative Angie's List & Yelp plumbing reviews. That was a big mistake. Day 1 - 2 plumbers arrive 2 hours late but worked steadily on the first bathroom to install the tub, piping, & durock walls. Several issues but the primary - the piping didn't line up with one another by inches & the tub leaked! They couldn't make repairs immediately due to other scheduled jobs - Huh? They had a 50% deposit for both bathrooms, so we wanted to be patient. After a couple of weeks, one plumber, 2 hours late. He stripped out the durock, the tub & the piping to start again - leaving the house a couple of times. After 3-4 hours, he told us he couldn't stay to finish & bailed in a huff when my husband went up to find out why. The work he had 'done' was horrible. Then the true nightmare began - trying to get our money back. Despite pictures and our request for management to come & review the work done (they refused) Dana & her brothers (voices in the background) felt the work to date was quality work & only a nominal refund was due from the 2 bathroom deposit we'd placed with them. The Bowmans acknowledged that there was no piping in place, no installed tub, no walls, no tile work, no work begun on the 2nd bathroom & no other plumbers on staff. Just 1 plumber (who started mid 2013) & 1 plumber's assistant. These guys were in over their head with this job. Finally, Dana offers to call in a sub-contractor to handle our 2 bathroom contract with Bowman's - we'd 'begin fresh'. Again, we're trying to be reasonable - we agree. He comes out - on time. He's horrified by the evidence left by the Bowman's plumbers & talks to us about what's needed. We gave him a copy of the Bowman quote for the 2 bathrooms - feel pretty positive about him (& start our research on his company). Two days later & unexpectedly, we receive a full refund check and a note to work directly with the sub-contractor. He in turn advises us the one bathroom will cost 50% "maybe more" than the Bowman's contract & he doesn't really like written quotes.... read more

Very expensive and irresponsible!!!!!!! We had an issue with our HVAC, someone came to diagnose from Bowmans, said there is a wire that is not the right size but that is not causing the issue, he also said that he changed the timers, so everything should be okay now and took the $90 charge for that. We still had the issue within the next few days and when called again, the Service Manager says since the diagnosis came up fine, not sure what can be done. He also added that we can try fixing the wire first, to check if that would fix the issue, if not we can try to diagnose again to find out if there's something else. It was so irresponsible for him to answer like that not knowing what to do and claim themselves experts in HVAC. When I mentioned that the warranty company did a diagnosis and said the control board was faulty, the Manager said we can then try fixing the board and that would cost between $500 and $600. It just looks like they are just after ripping the money as much as possible from the customers without a proper fix for the issue. Will never recommend these guys to anyone unless you want to spend your hard-earned money for nothing. read more

The replaced a refrigerator line on our fridge in April 2013 with copper for $435. The connection the plumber made from the copper line to the fridge line failed 10 months later. The plumber told me to have an appliance repair person fix it because he couldn't. The water leak from the fridge resulted in $635 in damage to our carpets. $1,000 to fix this problem and now I have to call an appliance technician. He should have advised that in the first place. The manager, Dana Bowman said it was outside the 30 day warranty, so tough luck. If you expect your work from your plumber to last more than 30 days, call another plumber. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. The after-hours technician was rude, disrespectful and condescending. Unfortunately I did not get his name. At 10:15 pm on the night before the recent snowstorm (1-5-15), my furnace broke down. As a single woman with an elderly tenant, I was concerned about the freezing temps and getting through the cold night. I called Bowman's and spoke to the after- hours technician. He asked me what my furnace was doing and I explained that the motor was working, but there was no ignition and no heat. He told me what the charges would be if he came out that night vs the next morning and asked me what I wanted to do. In an effort to make an informed decision, I started to tell him what the diagnostic flashing light on the furnace was saying and ask about the availability of parts if he came out that night, but he immediately cut me off. He very rudely informed me that he just needed to know if I wanted him to come out that night or not. He said he had to get up at 5:30 a.m. and he wasn't going to have a discussion or conversation with me. He said, "This isn't a social call. Just tell me if you want me to come out there tonight or in the morning." I politely informed him that I would be calling another company. I felt very disrespected in an already stressful situation. I could understand if I was droning on and on, but the entire conversation lasted exactly 1.26 minutes. This is certainly not the kind of service that Mr. Bowman would expect of his employees. I have never had a bad experience, Jeff is my tech who come's out twice a year to check my HVAC system (per the contract I purchase every year) we have had one full furnace & 2 AC units replaced with them. This year we had our hot water heater replaced and tomorrow will have 2 toilets replaced. Been working with Bowman for 10 years. Early on, they were great to deal with, good prices, responsive, etc. Over the past 5 years, the company has changed. The women who answers the phone has got to be one of the consistently rudest people around. She must eat her young.... Even when just calling to schedule a system check-up, she is short, curt and acts like Bowman is doing you a favor by fitting you in. And, if you call with a concern, forget it....... you better be armed. Needless to say, she is not customer friendly. Early on, when there was a problem, you could talk to Steve Bowman. Now, he doesn't have time to call you back. Their prices have also tripled. And, if that wasn't enough, their technicians are now really just sales people trying to sell you this and that for inflated prices. Sorry to say but this company has lost it's way and isn't close to what it used to be. I'm looking for another HVAC company that is honest, fairly priced, responsive and a little more pleasant when you call. Bowman's did all the work to convert my home from oil to natural gas including removing my old furnace an installing a new carrier gas furnace and humidifier. They also installed my gas fireplace set and gas range and later I will have them install a gas water heater. Honestly, it was a pleasure to deal with this company. My wife and I looked at many of the companies that Washington Gas lists and these guys were the most helpful. Dean Stine, the sales manager, took his time with us and explained the process for converting to natural gas. He was always responsive to my phone calls and I always had the feeling that they would do a good job. THEY DID A GREAT JOB! The price was very competitive and Dan and his crew were dependable, skilled, friendly and efficient and took time to answer my many questions.
