I had a routine AC maintenance appointment which uncovered the need to replace my capacitor and cleaning of the compressor unit. I found Rapheal P. from Donmar to be easy to work with, the prices were reasonable, and he didn't try to pressure me into buying extra services. The capacitor had a 1 year warranty which was great because a few weeks later, a field mouse somehow found its way into the housing and shorted the darn thing, so it had to be replaced. Since moving into our house in September 2020, we have replaced both A/C units in the house that was built in 1990. The upstairs unit stopped cooling Sept 5. On Monday, we found there was a leak. They found the leak in the evaporator coil which the standard cost for it was $1,378.30. We didn't pay that amount, but our total bill that day was $1,684.00. We find the Technicians are very knowledgeable in what they are doing at our house. They might be more expensive than other companies, but we have been very happy with them. The time had come for us to replace our 24-year-old Carrier Infinity air conditioner. We decided to replace our 17-year-old Carrier Infinity furnace as well. We are so happy we did. After entertaining 3 quotes, we decided to hire Donmar Company. Its quote was competitive. It was comforting to know that Donmar is Carrier-authorized. This system is so quiet that you have to listen carefully to know that it is on. The Infinity System Control with WiFi is easy to use. Their head technician, Edgar, and his helper, Gus, arrived on time. The job they did was fantastic. We are very pleased with their work, their integrity, and their professionalism. They worked quietly, removed all trash and left the space clean. Edgar is most likely the very best technician around. His many years of experience shows. In early 2016 I purchased a high end Carrier Infinity System + Hot Water Heater from Donmar which cost over 10k. At the time I decided I wanted to use my Nest Thermostat instead of the Carrier Infinity Thermostat. They were fast an efficient getting the system installed and I was very happy, at least to start. One of the features I opted for was the whole house humidifier. Lets just say it wasn't working correctly and took I think 4 trips out to my house to fix it. First they moved the water line from the cold water to the hot water line (which I've since learned isn't a good idea because of mineral buildup). Then they came out and rewired the electrical junction box so it would stop shutting off. Then they came out and replaced the solenoid valve and lastly they replaced the humidifier pad. With the humidifier finally working I thought all was well, a year later I renewed my service contract with them and even refereed a co-worker to them who ended up purchasing a whole new system. After reading a lot of stuff online I finally decided I was going to swap out the Nest Thermostat for the Carrier one. I emailed Donmar to ask what it would cost to get one installed. The response I got was, "It's expensive. $879 installed- no discounts." So I asked what if I purchased one elsewhere and just had them install it, the reply I got back was there was a $150 rebate so it would really only be $729 installed (not answering my question). I then asked again if I purchased my own would they come install it for under $200, they could tie it in with the annual service they would already be coming out to do. I was told no and the cheapest they would do it for was $325, so I countered and asked if they would do it for $250. But the response back was they wouldn't budge on $325 cost just for the install. So just doing the math they wanted to charge me $729 for the thermostat + install which means the thermostat cost $404. That means they wanted to charge me $162 an hour in labor (assuming it took 2 hours to install) and they would have already had a tech at my house doing the annual maintenance. I bought a 10k system from them, referred a co-worker who also bought a very expensive system from them and I had renewed an annual maintenance contract with them and they wouldn't budge at all. Needless to say I found another Carrier Certified company who installed the Thermostat in 30 minutes and charged me $75, I am now using them for my annual maintenance and will not be recommending Donmar Company anymore. read more

If you want a proper HVAC installation, I highly recommend you get an estimate from Donmar Company. We got our furnace, air conditioner, and water heater replaced at the same time since they were getting old and a growing number of problems were appearing. It didn't make sense to spend more money trying to repair it. It was also obvious that the previous installer (hired by the previous owners of our house) cut corners and didn't even match the tonnage on the condenser and evaporator units. So, it was time to get a replacement. We ended up getting the Carrier Infinity system with zoning and the Infinity thermostat and zone sensor. Along with a UV light and humidifier. We also needed to get ductwork done, automatic dampers added, as well as rearranging some gas lines to our water heater and furnace. Having the zoning and 2-stage systems has made our multi level home more comfortable with even temperatures on each floor. We worked with Michael W. on the estimates and he was really helpful in answering all my questions in person and on the phone. I think he even came a few times during the installation to check on things. Edgar was the lead technician doing the 3 day installation and did a superior job. Wow, I was impressed with how good the install was! He was very detailed oriented and explained everything clearly along the way. I had a lot of questions and he answered them all. It was assuring that he has been with the company for a long time and has a lot of experience. The install by Edgar and other technicians was done really well. I did a ton of research on what to look out for, and how the install quality is more important than the equipment. Donmar uses a check list that goes through all the proper procedures of setting up the HVAC system (pulling vacuum, pressure testing, providing manuals, etc). They installed the appropriate items like having different shut off protections, having system and condenser on risers, air sealing, insulating the line set, etc. The technicians wore face masks, shoe coverings, uniforms, covered the basement carpet, swept the floor after they were done, etc. They replaced the insulation on my existing line set, replaced the disconnect box, avoided sharp angles on new ductwork, rebuilt my supply box (which had been poorly designed), rebuilt the gas exhaust pipes, and more. They pulled permits and gave me instructions on setting up an inspection with the county. They also registered for the warranties super fast. I received the warranty registration confirmations through the mail in just a few days, and got an e-mail for the Carrier warranty registration the same day they were done with the installation. It just shows that they are diligent and detailed oriented. I got multiple estimates, and one company said they couldn't install a 4 inch filter because the gas line was in the way. Well, guess what? Edgar and his team at Donmar was able to redesign the gas line so it wasn't in the way. Donmar had a fair estimate and I liked that they performed all the appropriate procedures to ensure a long lasting HVAC system, as well as being really easy to reach and very responsive when you call them. They provide a 2 year labor warranty on their work. Throughout the entire process they were honest and showed integrity. I saw a few negative reviews, but if you read them, they don't really make sense. There is one about the price of the thermostat. The Carrier Infinity thermostat is really expensive. It's easy to find the retail price online. Then there is some person who left the same negative feedback over and over. Then there are a couple that look like it was written by the same person using different accounts. So it's important to read the actual feedback instead of just looking at the rating. My experience was positive, and I highly recommend using Donmar for a new HVAC installation. There was a small issue with a defective part in the furnace and Donmar fixed it quickly. The technician, Kien, did a thorough job testing everything to find the issue and replace the appropriate part. It looks like Donmar has a lot of great processes in place. Some I already mentioned. I also like that they will text you when the technician (along with their photo) is about to arrive and you can track them in real time online. Don't hesitate to give them a call. read more

While recently having some electrical work done on my home, the electrician noted that whoever replaced my AC unit hadn't properly terminated the 2nd (now unneeded) power line into a junction box. It was terminated with black electrical tape & plastic caps. Worried, I contacted Donmar after safely turning off that breaker. Would Donmar stand by their work and fix a 10+ year old issue? We selected Donmar over multiple other vendors in 2012 to completely replace our old HVAC with a new Trane system. The pricing was good, and the actual install was very smooth and efficient. They did a great job. I was very pleased. Turn now to Sept 22 this year, during an annual inspection it was determined that our Humidifier was not working. The technician thought it needed a new control board but after having a humidifier specialist look at the unit it was determined that it had not been installed correctly. I wrote Donmar about this and Don responded to let me know that he had his installation foreman personally coming to the house to correct the problem free of charge. I had a very positive (first) experience with Donmar. My AC compressor stopped working and I called several companies attempting to get same day service. I ordinarily use an owner/operator who was out of town on vacation. Originally, non of the companies that I contacted could come out. However, Donmar called me back to tell me that they had a serviceman finishing up another job near by and he could stop by my house. My problem was very basic, that is the reason why I only gave 4 stars (instead of 5). I only had a blown fuse, but the service technician (Paul) was thorough and explained the different causes for a blown fuse. Let me start off by saying that I have been using DONMAR for the better part of 30 years to install and maintain my HVAC units in my home. And I would say they've been pretty solid over the years and I've been happy with their service overall. Recently, I had DONMAR check on one of the two AC units in my house as it was not cooling like it should. My preference was to repair the unit as I have a well maintained, top of the line TRANE unit with a few years of life left in it. The technician provided three estimates: Repair: $2100 w/ 1 year warranty More extensive Repair: $3800 w/ 2 year warranty Replacement: $6700 w/ 10 year warranty So like most situations where I'm faced with a large expenditure, I decided to get a second opinion. I had another company come out and provide me with their estimate, which I chose to do the repair work. The other company fixed my unit for a total of $395. (parts and labor included) I'm not sure if the DONMAR tech had a bad day, anticipated other parts breaking soon, or if he has an incentive to up sell, all I can tell you is I'm very happy to have saved a little money in the process of getting a second opinion. read more

Used this company for 10 years and always received good service and felt they treated us fair. However, today they ripped me off by adding an extra $95 charge for a maintenance plan that I never asked for. I asked them to inspect my system and they sent a technician named 'Kien'. After he was done with the inspection, he described the work he suggested we have done which we agreed to. After the work was compete, I was not available and he had my wife pay and without any notice or permission, he slipped an extra unapproved charge for a bogus annual maintenance plan. And what's worse and even more unethical is he knew we are selling the house and wouldn't need such a plan. Beware !!!!! read more

I finally decided to replace my 17 year old upstairs heat pump / air handler, which has required expensive repairs the past several years. Don Wills, President of Donmar, came to my home to provide a quote. Don is extremely knowledgeable, answered all my questions, and provided a competitive quote with several choices that allowed me to trade off cost versus size and efficiency. He also offered a discount if I replaced my downstairs A/C / furnace at the same time, so I decided to do this. Also included in the price are two free checkups -- one this fall and another in the spring. My new upstairs heat pump / air handler was installed the following Monday, and my downstairs AC / furnace was installed the next day. Work started around 7:30 AM each day and completed by 5 PM on Monday and 6:30 PM on Tuesday. The install was performed by Edgar and his assistant on both days. Edgar did a great job of explaining the installation process, and explaining how to use my new system after it was installed. I am extremely happy with the work performed by Edgar and his assistant - with their professionalism, knowledge, and quality. I would be pleased to welcome Edgar into my home again for other work. The new upstairs heat pump, a 4-ton Carrier Infinity 18VS is awesome! It is able to run at 5 different speeds, automatically adjusting depending on how hot it is outside. It has kept my upstairs cool even on the hottest summer days -- a feat that my old heat pump could never accomplish. The new downstairs AC is a 4-ton Carrier Infinity 19VS, which has similar capabilities to the upstairs heat pump and works equally well. Features I enjoy include the ability to control both units from my iPhone, and that each unit reports the amount of energy it uses each day (averaging around $4 dollars a day total for both units in the July heat). I am extremely pleased with Donmar -- with how they educated me when providing the quote, with the high quality work they performed during the install, and with the Carrier units they recommended to me. Called to make an appointment and the lady that picks up the phone and she sounds like she really hates her life. All i asked was to make an appointment and she said they dont cover Triangle, VA which is...... in PWC; I even told her im right on the border of Dumfries which she said they do cover. When I mentioned that she said hold on, came back and said "yeah we dont cover Triangle". Didnt ask for my address to verify or anything... honestly I dont think she really asked anyone, she was not very helpful at all. Don't even bother with this company, utterly useless. You call the central number to schedule something and it sounds like you've just caused the biggest inconvenience of the week to the lady who answers the phone. She's all huffity when she answers the phone, then put me on hold only to come back 2 minutes later to ask how she can help me! I said I just spoke to you asking for a service, and I'd still like a service please! She starts huffing away again typing my details in to the system when it transpires that she already knows my name based on my address. Turns out this was the company I attempted to get a service call with for my AC unit in summer. Granted it was summer and granted it was a hot one, but I scheduled no less than 2 service calls with them only for THEM to call ME telling me they were rescheduling. The last reschedule put me out an entire MONTH. Evidently more lucrative deals were coming in for them, putting service calls to the back of the line. Total waste of time and money, this company. As others said, the customer service is terrible. Donna is rude when you call. They came to our house and we had a small problem that only required cleaning our unit. The technician went into the furnace room and shut the door. I knocked loudly and repeatedly to ask him a question but he did not answer so I assumed he was outside. 25 minutes later, he emerges and charges us $300 for a job with hardly any labor and no materials but cleaning spray! Why did he not open the door? My guess is he was hiding the fact that it was probably a 5 minute job. Very suspicious and a total scam and rip off! We will never call them again! read more

However the unit have stopped blowing cool air since yesterday. I called Donmar today and was told a technician would contact me shortly. I have not heard from them since then. Donmar was great! Our upstairs system went out, of course during this major heat wave, and Donmar was out first thing the morning after we called! After they left we waited about 6 hours and it still hadn't cooled down at all, so I called them thinking that the job wasn't done correctly or there was a bigger issue, but they informed me that with the heat outside and the unit being in the attic it could take as long as a full day and over night to cool our home down. So just in case they scheduled us first thing the following morning, next morning comes they call an hour ahead of time to check our system, and sure enough if was FREEZING cold in here! They also took the time to inform me of a few things in regards to the heat outside and how to set our thermostat to maintain the most efficient cooling. Lastly, their pricing was extremely fair and was actually much less than we had anticipated to pay. Highly recommend! read more

I first became a customer earlier this year when our AC stopped working and no other company could come out on a weekend to fix it. A bad capacitor was replaced and we were cool again, however they advised that the health of our compressor was deteriorating and that we were on borrowed time. Several months later our compressor did finally go out and we decided to replace the whole system, inside and out. Mr. Miranda arrived on-time and even had the courtesy of calling 15 minutes ahead to ensure we were ready for him. I knew Mr. Miranda was going to be exceptional, when he entered our home and immediately shook my hand and proceeded to put shoe covers on to ensure he did not bring dirt onto our carpets. Mr. Miranda thoroughly discussed what he was going to service today and approximately how long this would take. He then proceeded to service the units and kindly requested us to review his notes. Overall, Jorge Miranda was attentive, respectful and patient throughout our entire service. DONMAR is lucky to have such a friendly and professional service technician in Mr. Miranda. The Donmar guy came to check the AC. Put the Freon check instrument and kept leaking the gas, so that he can say that gas is low and can charge $500 for Freon. The outside unit's fan motor was bad. The guy said he has to replace the motor and then fill in the gas and total cost will be $800. It sounded fishy to me, why the Freon needs to be refilled if we are not doing anything to the Compressor, Coil or the gas lines? Then we checked with the local store, got the new motor for $120 and replaced it. They guy was trying to fool us by making it a low Freon issue. read more

Donmar is very good ... We had a very good experience from starting to ending . Michael who is the owners son was our point of contact . We did get multiple quotes . But Donmar's quote and their expertise was very competitive. I do not write reviews mostly. But these guys are awesome from the Top owner to the employees and they deserve 5 star review . They were very professional. Our decision was mostly based on our interaction with Michael . Though there is not much difference in pricing we decided to go with them solely bcz of Michael . Michael was very patient in answering all my questions and he is the only one who was willing to do manual J to calculate appropriate load . It's because of his time spent in explaining all my questions We decided to go with them . Bcz we were sure we will get good service from them .
