Great atmosphere and friendly staff with a large selection of scotch and single malt. Definitely worth a visit if you are in mid-town.

Great food and fabulous Manhattan bar atmosphere. The Chicken curry was superb and the Guinness was cool, real cool.

Horrible dinner service - Asked waitress for waters (brought one for the table), food came (from a busboy) and after waiting 10 minutes for our waitress to come around (had to flag her down) I told her my Cobb salad was missing bacon (listed on the menu as having bacon as all Cobb salads do) and she looked at me blankly. Decided to get our check and bounce. There are a ton of other Irish joints within a mile that I'll be happy to give business to. Won't be back to this one. While watching the Ravens and Eagle game last night John Sullivan's. I notice an older gentleman walk into the bar. Some gay man with a goofy mustache yelled "G-G-G-G-GARY BISCAINE." I noticed the old man had very shaky legs. He yelled to the bartender, "Daddy needs a Jameson". The bartender appeared to be annoyed by the presence of this man coming in. The bartender mumbled something along the lines of, "this shaky drunk fuck needs rehab. At the end of the game, the old man, which apparently made a big wager on the Eagles, yelled, "THE JEWS HAVE RUINED THE NFL!" And the went on to say, "That "N-Word" couldn't catch a cold it he was standing naked during a blizzard in Harlem." The old man took his shot and stumbled out the door. read more

We had a wonderful breakfast here today! The food was perfectly prepared with a nice presentation. Loved my veggie omelette with just the right amount of pesto. The staff was attentive and fun!! My friend ordered the Irish breakfast which was a ton of food and he loved everything about it. Another friend ordered the fish and chips and said it was legit also. I ordered the chicken pot pie which was good but Luke warm. The pastry which came with it was amazingly light and flaky which actually made the dish. The atmosphere is very loud but causal. All in all I'd say I'd probably be back if I lived in the area but would probably go with a different dish. read more

Went here on a Sunday around dinner time for drinks and apps. We were greeted promptly, and then it was pretty much downhill from there. They have a combo app ($27.95) that we ordered that came with multiple things, including potstickers. When it came out, there were no potstickers, so we asked about it, and, after telling us they weren't included, we showed the waitress (Stella) the menu and she said "oh, I don't think we've had those in a while... it's been a few months." Oh-kay... We also asked for the bourbon chicken tenders and they gave us plain ones. After that, she was either sitting at the bar or back by the kitchen, and the few times we needed something, we had to walk over to her because she never looked up. She never asked if we wanted another drink, she never filled our water glasses, she didn't ask if we wanted a box for the leftovers, she didn't do anything else. I wanted some whiskey in a coffee at around 9 AM. I sat at the bar and ordered such. The bartender seemed confused so I repeated it. Then she brought me a shot of whiskey. No coffee. I let it sit there in front of me for 5 minutes or so, then I drank it. She brought me a coffee a few minutes later. Jameson and coffee is not a two-course meal. read more

My roommate and I came here a few weeks ago and split a wonderful steak quesadilla while being entertained by the bartender, Darren. So, of course when an old friend and I were in the area, I suggested John Sullivan's for a quick drink. The bartenders, James and Lisa, were such delights. Lisa, especially, was attentive and engaging. She asked us about our day, and where we were from and was quick with a joke and a laugh. We honestly spent some extra time there just for the pleasure of her company. She was accommodating regarding my drink preferences and was sure to check on us a few times. Likewise, James made sure that we were doing alright and did a cool couple of tricks with glasses and cocktails shakers. All in all, it was a lovely experience. read more

Came here before the Billy Joel concert. The bar area was crowded and they were playing Billy Joel to get everyone in the mood for the concert. They even had Billy Joel dinner specials. This place has decent food and prices, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. We ordered burgers and sandwiches, so nothing too complicated. After telling the waitress three separate times that we needed fried onions on one burger, because she kept repeating "egg" when we said "onion", we received a fried egg on a separate plate, that they then charged us a dollar for. We also got two salads, one with balsamic, one with ranch. They both came out with balsamic, and when we asked for the ranch we had already ordered, we were charged extra for that as well. Somehow, our waitress was also switched out halfway through our meal, so that didn't help anything. With the abundance of pubs in manhattan, I'll be avoiding this one in the future. read more

John Sullivan's has absolutely the worst customer service we have experienced in New York City,. We placed our drink orders and said we would like to see a menu. We received our drinks, no menu. We tried to get somebody's attention and finally got a menu, we ordered sweet potato fries and when they arrived they were just kind of throw it on the bar some of the fries came off onto the table and he walked away no plates, no napkins, no ketchup no nothing, worst service ever. They never came back to check on us so we finally had to summons somebody so we could get our check and get the hell out of that place. Stopped in when we saw the sign that said $10 lunch when we got off the train - we were starving! Plus ten bucks for lunch in the city seemed like a cheap deal. The $10 menu was pretty damn diverse with a lot of options. Ordered some sandwiches from the menu - I got the Sully -- it was awesome. We also ordered penne a la vodka which my friends said was good along with French onion soup. Can you ever go wrong with French Onion soup? The side salad I got with my sandwich was super fresh. Give it a 3 1/2. Went in for a beer and bite before a basketball game at MSG. Promptly got a Guinness and then ordered some loaded nachos. Food came out quickly and it was good. I sat at the bar which was fine with me as it didn't look like a table was open. The only negative was that after I asked for the check, hey didn't pick up my credit card for like 15 minutes after walking past it dozens of times. I finally had to tell someone to run it. Geesh. Love this place. Always have a great time when I come to the city from upstate. Always bring my buddies with me and they love it too. Great happy hour prices and a great staff. John, the bartender is awesome. Have had a GREAT time each and every time have a blast. Food is good. Atmosphere is fantastic. This is a great place to stop in to unwind. Not sure why people have left bad reviews about the bathrooms. Contrary to what a couple people have posted, there IS a dedicated bathroom for women. As a family of 4 including 2 children aged 10 and 13 we were looking for a good pub and pub grub that suited all tastes. A friendly atmosphere and staff make John Sullivan's a welcoming place to visit. We came back on both nights over our weekend stay which says a lot in New York given the choice. Started working on 35th and, coming from Ireland, was delighted to see this place virtually across the road. It was my birthday and decided to treat myself to an Irish breakfast so I visited this establishment. The first clue should have been when it took the hostess a good two minutes to acknowledge me, after she was finished with her texting!! I was served by a nice native Irish girl who was very engaging and helpful. That was as good as it got. I ordered the Irish breakfast, what a disappointment. The chef managed to slice the pudding into the thinnest slices I have ever seen, a skill on it's own!! I did enjoy the beans, all 28 of them, yes I counted. The overeasy eggs looked good on the plate but, were completely burnt underneath. The white bread toast and the tea they managed to get right!! Not cheap and even if it was it would still not have been worth the money. I guess I will be traveling further for my next Irish breakfast. read more

My boyfriend and I went to this place for dinner on a Sunday after walking around the city all day. We were seated as soon as we got in and drinks came promptly. We ordered Buffalo wings (which were absolutely delicious.. the only real highlight) and asked for ranch as a side. The wings came out with no ranch. My boyfriend had to get up and find the waitress to ask for ranch and another soda. It then took another reminder and fifteen minutes to bring over the ranch after we were already half done. Then our entrees came, which weren't half bad, and no one came to check on us and see if we needed anything or if we even liked our meal. I am usually not super critical of meals in places and staff but honestly it was pretty terrible. The place wasn't even that busy. The food was ok but the service this particular day was below par. Hopefully its better on other days. read more

I use to be a regular here until i had a disgusting back to back incident here. Well let me start off with the story that i think everyone should read. This happened recently October 23, 2015. I came in like i usually do after work. I order my regular drink Jack and coke and wait for my girl. The difference on this date was that when i took my first sip (with out a straw) i immediately spit something out that i felt was in my mouth. When i noticed what it was, I raged. A large cockroach that was probably dead or just recently killed by the alcohol was on the bar. The bartender came over and i showed him. He then grabbed it with a napkin said sorry and left. He then came back made a joke about halloween or some bullshit like that but i didn't find it funny at all, he felt the coldness so he left.Regardless, me being nice i just continued like nothing happened. I was looking down the bar and realized that he told the order bartender and i also realized they both started laughing(Funny Right?). i got really mad but decided to act calmly. so i approached them and i told them that it was disgusting and that this type of thing shouldn't happen to a customers. What ever, long story short he gave me a drink said it was on the house and so i let it erase at the back of my head. Now.... While i was mid way through my second drink i realized there was something in it as well. I immediately took it out, only to find a receipt in my drink. I was really F***ing pissed at this moment and i felt like they were trying to do this on purpose or something. I told the bartender and when i told him he gave me an attitude and told me to chill out like this was my fault of some kind. I asked for the manager. He came to talk to me but at this point it was too late. I don't know what kind of service this place serves but I advice people to stay clear of this disgusting place. This is why i give this place a 1 star, and even thats too much. I would rate this place a negative 5. For bad and disgusting customer service. read more

It's a very typical pub. We came here for lunch as the menu was reasonable. Food was petty disappointing. The bacon on my burger was what you would find at a best western breakfast buffet, thin as paper and burnt with zero flavor. The patty was much too small for the bun size, and vegetable topping was something out of a fast food joint. Pretty disappointed but perhaps dinner or drinks is better. read more
