I have never been to a John Varvatos before. They have a very nice, high-end collection of clothing and accessories for men, including sunglasses and fragrances. The employees are really nice and friendly. Aaron in particular is super cool! He helped my buddy get what he was looking for, and even steamed the wrinkles out of one of the shirts he bought. As I waited, he offered shots!! I thought they were literally just for decoration, but nope!! Ask and you shall receive!! That was most certainly first class service, and I was impressed to say the least. The store is very well kept, and the lounge chairs are nice and comfy. They even have an arcade game in the back corner (I'm not sure it works, but it looked like it did). Thank you Aaron and staff, for going above and beyond. Service is impeccable here. What a great business. Visited this store once and saw a jacket I liked. Staff was super helpful at the time. Decided I would rather buy this when they have a clearance sale during summer which was only a couple of months So the clearance sale comes and goes and I miss it! I call the store asking if they could help. The store manager Colin, not only locates the exact size and jacket I was looking for, but also gives me a great discount over the phone (the sale) - and arranges to have the jacket shipped to my home from the outlet store where it was available. It arrived promptly within a few days. Just perfect. I love their fit, quality and style and they go out of their way to help customers. I knew that finding me a suit in that price range was going to be a long shot! Going through the rack of suits. I found a gray suit I had in mind. The color was perfect. The material was perfect. The cut was perfect. The price was SO NOT perfect. $1600. Yea. That's right. One-Freaking Thousand, Six-Ridiculous Hundred Dollars. Right when I was putting down the suit a chirpy sales person asked if I wanted to try it on. In my head I was playing it cool..so I tried. it. Damn. That's how a $1600 suit feels. Now at this point. just wanted to mention a recent experience i had with this store and in particular, Mr. Omar Taha. i purchased a belt over 2 yrs ago. although awesome in every way, the threading began to fall apart prematurely. i just wore the belt as is bc honestly, i didn't think the store would do anything for me since i'd had the belt for so long. but i decided to bring it in, anyway. well, Omar immediately helped me out, told me they would send the belt out to have it repaired, then mailed to my doorstep. how sweet is that?! i uploaded a photo of the belt and the accompanying note from Omar. thank you, again!! aside from the belt, jewelry, and sunglasses, i own two pairs of gorgeous boots from the designer and they are THE best fitting/looking/tailored shoes i have ever owned. can't wait to add to the collection! read more

The only store at South Coast where I experienced dodgy service. Only one person was working (or visibly so,) and that one person was talking to one client the ten minutes I was in the store. I had a country-themed wedding to go to (yeah, I know) and was on a tight schedule, but multiple people were waiting for this one guy to finish his conversation. Many of those people, including myself, walked out before said conversation was through. Definitely unlike the service i've received in San Francisco. This brand has huge sales very often, msrp is very high, and I recommend only buying when there is a greater than 40% discount. If you want something here, I've noticed that it's no more than a month or two wait until that specific item goes on sale + you can get it for much cheaper than normal. With that said, every time I go in, everyone seems friendly and very helpful. The only bad experience I've had here was when I tried to tailor a suit that I bought here. It's very expensive... like 3-4 times more expensive than a much more professional tailor. The quality of the tailoring is extremely bad too... so bad that I had to take it elsewhere and get it tailored again. The clothing here is awesome, but please make sure to tailor stuff you buy here elsewhere. read more

I called into the John Varvatos store @ South Coast Plaza in the morning to confirm that my online reservation was ready for pick up. A gentleman named Jose picked up and he kindly took the time to look up my reservation and let me know it was ready. I let Jose I'd be later in the afternoon to pick it up. I got a call from an unknown number around 3:30 and it was Jose. He was calling from his cellphone in the parking garage to let me know that the power had gone out in half the mall, including the John Varvatos store and that they'd be closed until the power would be back up. He even offered to text me right when the store was back up and running. I unfortunately never got a chance to meet Jose, I was in town for only the day and changed my order reservation to another store but thanks so much for going that extra step. I would've ended up driving into the mall and ended up in the cluster of people trying to leave. Jose is the prime example of a 5-Star employee. read more

I read ALL the reviews before posting this, agree with all re: quality of clothes/shoes, but DISAGREE with the poor ratings on the staff and their attitudes. I met Steven when I stopped in after a long day of XMAS shopping for others. I was looking for dress shoes. I clearly indicated I was on a budget. He pointed me directly to the shoes that were not only on sale, but what I would have wanted even if they were not. Given that I had just spent a ton of $$ on gifts, I was hesitant. He said 'no problem' he would hold them for a few days. Of course I called the next day and said I would take them, but his low pressure attitude and that fact he really knows his style, made me a fan.... But where Steven earns his five stars, is that when I picked up my shoes, I admired a pair of casual boots, also on sale, but my size was gone. Steven VOLUNTEERED to call the LA store, found my size and had them shipped for free. These two purchases were under $500, which is low I am sure for JV, yet Steven treated me as if I had spent $1,000's...which I will do when the budget allows. read more

John Varvatos is my favorite brand but the salespeople at this store are just a bunch of condescending jerks who should be fired. Every time I walked in in shorts and sandals, they ignored me like if I was a bum who couldn't afford anything - I'm not sure how they are expecting people to dress up when it's 95 degrees but their way of judging customers is pathetic, most especially since they didn't even realize I was wearing JV. Another time, I asked about a pair of shoes, which was in stock on the website and was told that these shoes had been discontinued for a couple years - of course I just went back home and ordered them online. This store is an insult to that brand and I would recommend just ordering online, visiting the LA store or going to department stores carrying JV. read more

I found out about John Varvatos when they came out with the Jack Purcells and Chucks that were slip ons...they were in the hundred dollar range but infinitely more comfortable than the regular chucks or jacks. When I started looking for suits, several people told me that I should go for either Hugo Boss or John Varvatos because they would fit me the best...I just never looked too much at JV because their suits were ridiculously expensive. ($1800)... but i came there the other week and they were having a huge sale (since their fall stuff is coming soon) and the suits were 70% off... pretty sweet. The salesman was extremely helpful and gave good advice on fit and other things. Even gave us some bottles of Fiji water. They don't have an in house tailor but they called one over - after fifteen minutes she came, took my measurements and I got my perfectly fitting suit in four days.
