I ordered a kid's meal for myself- grilled cheese with fries, a soda and onion rings. I was not thrilled with the grilled cheese but was told the burger is what you should get. The place itself was spacious with plenty of seating- even a private room in the back. The servers were helpful, friendly and efficient. Will come back to try the burger and hopefully have a better review!

Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler is an Oklahoma institution as they are fast food meets fast casual restaurant, as they serve up some solid charbroiled burgers, in addition to sandwiches, chicken entrées and salads. What brought me here on weeknight evening for dinner was when I was visiting the area with family who live in the area and we were looking for a quick place to eat that would be affordable as well, and as we drove around one of my hosts suggested that we go to Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler and I was agreeable to try something new. Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler has been an Oklahoma City institution for over fifty years now, with five locations in the metropolitan area. What makes them so successful and unique is that their burgers are cooked to order, charbroiled style of course, topped with your choice of fresh vegetables such as iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and diced onions, and if you order their signature cheeseburger they actually top your burger with shredded cheese! The exterior of the location of Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler in Edmond where we dined is a little innocuous, as they are all brick clad with very little in terms of windows, inside it's brightly lit and clean as you enter they have you wait behind an entry barrier and view their menu which is now shown on flat panel television screens until it's your turn to order at their counter. It's all fast casual here at Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler, as you order they give you a number and they call it out when your order is ready for pickup. The menu at Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler is separated into categories including Burgers & Sandwiches, Grilled & Deli Favorites, Platters & Plates, Sides, Chili & Soups, Salads, Drinks and Desserts. Of course I came for their Classic Cheeseburger which is listed as number 8, which comes with their "extras" at no charge including lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, grilled onions, mustard, mayo, ketchup and of course Johnnie's sauce. We also decided to all share in an order of their Onion Rings, which are homemade daily. Others in our party ordered their French Fries with Cheese, Chicken Fried Chicken Platter served with their option of French Fries, and a slice of their Banana Cream Pie. It didn't take too long for our order to come out and our number to be called. As I found my burger nicely handcrafted and evenly charred thanks to it being charcoal grilled instead of on a flat top grill, which I would assume also meant that most of the grease from cooking it fell by the wayside too. Their onion rings are breaded which makes them unique when being served in a fast food setting. But overall, I was pleasantly surprised as the food was not only tasty but affordable, as we came for their signature burgers and we were not disappointed. The fact that they also serve various menu items like chicken, both fried and grilled, and a wide variety of salads only proves that Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler has adapted with the times, and we should all be appreciative of this fact. On the day we went, they were hosting a private birthday party in their small room, so Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler is clearly a local favorite for simply hanging out in a clean and familiar place. I like that they also serve up homemade pie slices, which gives them a real diner feel, reminiscent of my own local institution back in California called Nation's Giant Hamburgers. I'm partial to them and will now be partial to Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler whenever I visit family in Edmond, as this place clearly holds special memories for all who have visited.

Growing up in Oklahoma City Johnnies was a staple ! The nice thing about this store is open till 9 o'clock and the drive-through was fast efficient hot / fresh at 8:45 pm Burgers are about seven bucks apiece now but Worth every penny Number one and rings for me...

    Theta burgers and fries

A family trip to Oklahoma isn't quite the same without our first meal consisting of Theta burgers, mountains of their delicious onion rings and their perfect fries!! Johnnie's never go away

Theta cheeseburger -- not much on it, hated the hickory sauce, shredded cheese barely melted (which is their thing, why?), 1/5

Onion rings are always good. Service is almost always quick. The chili cheese burger is a favorite.

The food here is great! I have been a customer since the late 70's. The onion rings are the best, the burgers are too!

Always a good burger. Love the big shredded cheese they have and their onion rings. Open flame burgers are the best.

Gage, our waiter was very professional and helpful. He guided us through the menu and helped us make good choices. We started with three mule cocktails. We had the Oaxacan, the Moscow and Kentucky Mules. Everyone enjoyed the cocktails. One thing that stood out to me for my Oaxacan Mule is that the Mezcal's smoky flavor really shown through and it was not overly sweet. A very clean cocktail, which I highly appreciate! We ordered the Chef's Salad Wrap with Onion Rings, French Dip with the tomato soup, and the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with seasonal side of grits. I enjoyed the Chef's Salad Wrap but I would probably be a little more bold next time and get the Cortez or the Reuben. I craved a lighter choice and was more sinful with the over the top delicious onion rings! Wowowow! Hubby enjoyed his soup and French dip and son enjoy his Philly cheesesteak and grits. I would definitely love to revisit and try more of their items.

I ordered the Cuban panini with a side of Parmesan-encrusted button mushrooms. It's so hard to find anything close to Cuban bread, but this wasn't bad, and the panini was toasted nicely. There's only one problem: This isn't a Cuban sandwich. It's ham and turkey with pickles. I'll point the finger at myself for not looking at the menu closer. A Cuban HAS to be roast pork and ham, and the meat shouldn't be cold. I know this isn't Miami, but stop trying to pass this off as something it's not. As for the Parmesan-encrusted mushrooms, you might expect some bit of crust or breading with Parmesan. Nope. These were sautéed mushrooms with a glop of Parmesan (not entirely sure it wasn't Swiss) in the middle. If you wanted both, you had to get a mushroom, then bite off a bit of the no longer melted cheese. I'm not going to tell anyone not to come here. As ham and turkey paninis go, it was OK. But I can't help but think if they're trying to pass things off as something they're not, what else might not be as it seems?

You can really tell everything is baked fresh that morning. The textures are spot on--soft, airy, and just the right amount of sweetness. Their drink menu is near-perfection. Both the Milk Tea and Thai Tea taste incredibly authentic, which is hard to find around here. They aren't just sugar-bombs; you can actually taste the quality of the tea. The only reason I'm not giving a full 5 stars is a safety concern for those with allergies. Unlike Tous Les Jours, which clearly lists ingredients/allergens by each pastry, 85°C is a bit more vague at the display. As someone who has to be careful about what's in my food, I'd love to see them adopt a more transparent labeling system so I don't have to guess or ask for every item. The Verdict: Delicious, fresh, and a must-visit for your pastry fix. Just be cautious if you have specific dietary restrictions!

They also wouldn't heat up the savory bun, which was disappointing. It would've been much better warm, but the cashier said no and clearly didn't care. Service was speedy, but our cashier was unfriendly. The coffee was overpriced and too sweet, and it needed stirring--but you can't stir it with the boba lid. On top of that, we had to order coffee separately and pay twice, which felt inconvenient. Even after ordering at the kiosk, our hot coffee somehow came out iced... oops. (Yes, it clearly says iced on the receipt - so obviously we missed something.) We also had to clean our own table, even though it wasn't busy. There seems to be a lot of variety at first glance, but if you look closely, it's mostly the same bread--lots of red bean. On the plus side, there's lots of natural light and plenty of seating (at least when it's not busy). Overall, a bit disappointed. The prices lured us in, but this won't be a routine stop for us. It doesn't hold a candle to Tous Les Jours.
