When we pulled up to this location, there was no one in line ahead of us. We did end up ordering $70 worth of food when I asked for ketchup and fries sauce I was told $.55 for each fry sauce and they gave me two ketchup that had barely the bottom half even filled with product. How is a person to use that tiny little bit of ketchup for four sandwich sandwiches and fries... $70 worth of food and you get no dip?? The kids meal was good good as my daughter ate it all. The Frankenberger while different tasted great. The chicken fried chicken sandwich was amazing. It was a little dry, but luckily I ate it at the house so I could add my own condiments. We weren't so much a fan of the Johnny Fry sauce, would much recommend using your own ketchup and mayo to create a better flavor. Manager claims that you have to pay extra for the chili and the cheese. If that's the case then put that on the menu and the receipt and have the courtesy to advise the customer of that. I ate at Johnnys Burger today. I had the Chili cheeseburger added small onion rings and small fries. My burger was dry with little flavor. The French fries looked and tasted like they had been sitting out all day. Very greasy and barely cooked. I had asked for crispy fries. I didn't eat them. I don't recommend the fries or the burger. Also, their prices are to high for what they serve I can't really recommend Johnny's until they make some changes. read more

I ordered a kid's meal for myself- grilled cheese with fries, a soda and onion rings. I was not thrilled with the grilled cheese but was told the burger is what you should get. The place itself was spacious with plenty of seating- even a private room in the back. The servers were helpful, friendly and efficient. What brought me here on weeknight evening for dinner was when I was visiting the area with family who live in the area and we were looking for a quick place to eat that would be affordable as well, and as we drove around one of my hosts suggested that we go to Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler and I was agreeable to try something new. Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler has been an Oklahoma City institution for over fifty years now, with five locations in the metropolitan area. What makes them so successful and unique is that their burgers are cooked to order, charbroiled style of course, topped with your choice of fresh vegetables such as iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and diced onions, and if you order their signature cheeseburger they actually top your burger with shredded cheese! The exterior of the location of Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler in Edmond where we dined is a little innocuous, as they are all brick clad with very little in terms of windows, inside it's brightly lit and clean as you enter they have you wait behind an entry barrier and view their menu which is now shown on flat panel television screens until it's your turn to order at their counter. It's all fast casual here at Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler, as you order they give you a number and they call it out when your order is ready for pickup. The menu at Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler is separated into categories including Burgers & Sandwiches, Grilled & Deli Favorites, Platters & Plates, Sides, Chili & Soups, Salads, Drinks and Desserts. Of course I came for their Classic Cheeseburger which is listed as number 8, which comes with their "extras" at no charge including lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, grilled onions, mustard, mayo, ketchup and of course Johnnie's sauce. We also decided to all share in an order of their Onion Rings, which are homemade daily. Others in our party ordered their French Fries with Cheese, Chicken Fried Chicken Platter served with their option of French Fries, and a slice of their Banana Cream Pie. It didn't take too long for our order to come out and our number to be called. As I found my burger nicely handcrafted and evenly charred thanks to it being charcoal grilled instead of on a flat top grill, which I would assume also meant that most of the grease from cooking it fell by the wayside too. Their onion rings are breaded which makes them unique when being served in a fast food setting. But overall, I was pleasantly surprised as the food was not only tasty but affordable, as we came for their signature burgers and we were not disappointed. The fact that they also serve various menu items like chicken, both fried and grilled, and a wide variety of salads only proves that Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler has adapted with the times, and we should all be appreciative of this fact. On the day we went, they were hosting a private birthday party in their small room, so Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler is clearly a local favorite for simply hanging out in a clean and familiar place. I like that they also serve up homemade pie slices, which gives them a real diner feel, reminiscent of my own local institution back in California called Nation's Giant Hamburgers. I'm partial to them and will now be partial to Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler whenever I visit family in Edmond, as this place clearly holds special memories for all who have visited. read more

I said I wasn't going to go back to this restaurant, but I really wanted a burger so I decided to give them another chance. I asked to have that lettuce, pickle, tomato, onion, and mustard all on the side. because I did not want the bun to get soggy before I got home so what they did was put the lettuce and tomato in a paper sleeve and put it on top of fries so it soaked through the paper soap through the paper of the fries, the fries ended up being soggy and not warm by the time I got them home and be able to eat. It was a waste of money. I had to throw the whole freaking thing away. I am not happy I will not be back. I am done giving this place a chance. read more

This place is overpriced. A hamburger costs $7+ and that's in Oklahoma where I am visiting for an extended time. And if you just want to burger patty because you don't eat wheat they still charge you $7 for the Patty. Most fast food places will not do that they will just charge you for the Patty. I just get the feeling this place doesn't really care. I actually got the Patty for my dog I had a taste of it and it was pretty good but not worth the price at all. The person didn't ask their manager they didn't do anything they just said no it's the same exact price. Maybe that's a small thing to complain about but considering that people will do that if you're not able to eat these things I just think that they should at least take a couple of bucks off. One of the oldest Hambuger restaurants in Oklahoma. Not just Hamburgers. The offer other products to eat as well. I don't think you'll find anything less than a quality meal with Johnnie's. Johnie got his start at the Split T in OKC on north Western back in its day. He knew how to make a great burger then and has pretty much carried on with doing the same in his own restaurants. His son manages these restaurants now, and Rick does a good job of it. The menu for sandwiches is bountiful and plenty. They don't skimp on quality or portions. They are known for some awesome onion rings as well. Desserts are great. Service is top notch and I'm sure you'll love their food. I like the Johnnie's Burger and the Theta Burger. Theta Burgers are not a common burger on many places menus but believe me. It is a premium quality tasting burger. You'll need just a few napkins. read more

This burger spot is the tale of two burgers. This was my first time trying the Oklahoma staples, the Theta and Caesar Burgers. I will say, considering the smaller size and fast-food quality of burgers, they could be a buck or so cheaper. The contrasting flavors of the heavily-dressed Caesar salad with the dark char of the flame-broiled patty went wonderfully together. I was so surprised, it worked! I am a fan. But as for the Theta burger?? Ooo, we could not even finish it. Not one of us in the car liked their "famous" hickory sauce. It left no beefy flavor whatsoever. And the barely-melted shredded cheese gave it an odd texture. Not good at all imo. I don't get the shredded cheese gimmick at Johnny's. I like my cheese ooey-gooey, melty, oozy. This was quite the opposite of that. Service was fast and friendly. And it looked super clean inside. But with Carl's Jr right next door with a comparably tasty and cheaper char-broiled burger, I doubt I will stop in at Johnny's too often. Hands down an Oklahoma staple when it comes to good ol dine in fast food/casual dining. This place serves up some of the biggest hamburgers and fries combos I've seen lately. Johnnie's Charcoal Burger is one of my recent cravings. The sauce is TO DIE FOR! I wish I knew how to make it because it shows up in my dreams. I could eat it with a spoon and I'd love my burger to drown in it. My husband and I recently started frequenting this place because they have wonderful deals on their app and we love deals. They have fantastic burgers and delicious pie and tea. Their pie slices are huge! Their French fries are good, nothing special but the serving size is very generous! We love to eat them with their house ranch! I would have never thought I would love shredded American cheese on a burger so much! I also love that you can add grilled onions for free! I've also had their onion rings and was unfortunately disappointed in the flavoessness of them. We will be back many times for these amazing burgers right up the street from our house! Being in the industry and knowing "some people just take their bad days out on everything" first off..... haven't seen the people from the bad reviews but Ilya took care of us with the best attitude and spunk. I grew up in Edmond and the last time I visited Johnnie's was back in HIGH SCHOOL!! (which was only a few years ago...wink wink) I'm happy to see this place is still a staple in Edmond and just as busy as I remember it being back then. The set up hasn't changed at all, but the restaurant looks well maintained and clean. The burgers are delicious and, with such a lengthy menu, you're sure to find one that tickles your fancy. We opted for the cheeseburger (theta style) and, while the Johnnie's sauce is yummy, it makes for a very messy burger so next time I'll probably just opt for the regular cheeseburger. The fries are a good addition to any meal, and large portion so perfect for sharing. While the onion rings look super appetizing, they are a bit bland...so make sure you get some ketchup or BBQ sauce for dipping. I was surprised to see they even have a few salad options. First: I have Celiac Disease and it's hard finding a restaurant that understands this illness. The Manager here greeted me with a smile and was so sweet. He understood the importance of changing gloves, gluten free bread and even added to my telling him that I had Celiac, "Our fries are fried in a dedicated fryer". Second: I came to dinner thirty minutes before their closing time and all the employees didn't seem to mind and was friendly. Meh is right. Sad little Johnnie's. Most disappointing menu item: onion rings. These were uninspiringly breaded with plain white flour, the inner-most layer of which still remained uncooked. Raw white flour-coated onion slices. Yuck. Dumbest menu item: #19, the bacon chesseburger. What culinary Einstein though this one up? Shreds of unmelted american "cheddar" fall out of the sandwich each time you take a bite. Who uses cold shredded cheese on a burger? This is a really dumb burger concept. Glimmer of hope item: french fries. The fries were the best part of the meal, but still, there's not much to get excited about here. Crispy yes, but not even salted. Plain shoestrings browned in veggie oil. Just add salt and hope for the best. Full disclosure: I did eat my entire burger because I had been on a forced hunger strike for 19 hours after Thanksgiving and I was starving. The people in my family get excited about Johnnie's. I have always loved Johnnie's!I have gotten take out twice this week. The first time was a chef salad. It came in a square box and the lid was open in the to go bag all the way home. Not good. Tonight I was craving a Theta burger and onion rings. Ordered on line and went to pick up order. The D team couldn't find my order. Showed her my phone confirmation. A few minutes later it arrived at my car. Came home to find Theta burger was a hickory sauce and pickles only!!! I called to tell what my burger was and was offered a comp burger in the future.
