I've eaten here a handful of times over the last few months. I'd never tried it before now because the previous owners had the prices jacked up and I refuse to pay as much as they wanted for dough & cheese. I've tried the rolls, pizza and a salad. The side salad was amazing! The rolls they have are pretty good. The pizzas were pretty good also. My friends order the sandwiches and they look amazing. The garlic knots are good as well. Two things I don't understand are why it's so insanely hot inside. I know they have ovens going but so do other pizza places and they can keep their restaurant a reasonable temperature comfortable for the guests. The other is that during the day (lunch time) the females working are either not friendly or take your order then go MIA. Today the girl took my order and I never saw her or any other staff member for over 30 minutes. A few weeks ago there were two blondes, the young one was polite but the older one tossing the garlic knots was so rude. Maybe she was having a bad day but if I see her again, I'd probably walk out. The crust flavor was just ok and the sauce was marginal. It's not an actual sit down restaurant. You walk up and order, get your own drink, and find a seat. We went here on a whim to try something other than Pizza Hut. The pizza was good and the garlic knots too. The service well that left a lot to be desired. They take your order at the register and bring your food to the table. That's it for service. I was disappointed that they pass the surcharges of credit cards on to the customer. Our most recent experience at Johnny Tomaties left me with mixed feelings. I specifically asked not to over bake our pizza, but unfortunately it was over baked . The flavors are there but the execution fell short. We did add to our order a Meatball roll which was absolutely delicious and baked to perfection. This is our go to pizza place. Jonny's is a no frills pizza place, they have a few seats for those that want to eat in. However, they are known for takeout and you won't be disappointed. Coming from the north and going to college in the northeast you learn about great pizza. The Charlotte area comes up short on great pizza places. Johnnys is the only place we've found to be consistent each time we visit. Their tomato sauce has a sweet hint to it that I can't put my finger on. I've been here a few times since Pizza Palace moved out. While I do miss the lunch buffet from Pizza Palace, I do enjoy the "by the slice" options from the new management. The interior could be fixed up....it seems to be still falling apart from the Pizza Palace days on the inside (bathroom light switch falling out the wall, ceiling gross, etc) but this place deserves a chance. Saw this place mentioned on a Facebook foodie page and thought we'd give it a try. It's a small shop with only a few tables. They mostly do takeout but since it's a drive for us we opted to eat in. Started off with mozzarella sticks and they were good. I ordered the clam pizza which has a garlic oil base. It was delicious . I'm still thinking about it 3 days later. My bf stuck with traditional sausage mushroom & pepper. The crust was crispy. Again another winner.
