I call this a train wreck not a NY Style Calzone!
    Tony E.

There is nothing New York about Johnny's style pizza. This is my second time in a long time at this particular Johnny's and the food is very far from any New York Style Pizzarias that I am accustomed to. My Calzone was absolutely horrible... the dough didn't have any flavor and the cheese was runny and didn't taste like cheese at all. The service was rushed and my table was still wet and smelled like bleach, not to mention I didn't feel welcomed at all, the ambiance was like eat your food and now leave which I was more than happy to do!

I ordered a calzone with pesto sauce half the calzone had pesto sauce in the other half was missing the cheese and pesto sauce I'd say it was a 50% calzone. I paid $9.95 for a salad absolutely ridiculous. It was so small Definitely feel like I got ripped off.

Service is great. The waitress was on point! Pizza was good and really enjoyed the calzone. I wouldn't say it's New York style pizza but that might be just because I'm from New York I would go again. They have a lot of lunch specials daily. Tuesday is all you can eat spaghetti.

This is not an authentic NYC style pizza, look at how small this slice is.

You can fool the southern tongue (people from the south) but you cannot fool the tongue of a New Yorker! This review comes from a born and raised Brooklyn New Yorker who has been eating NYC pizza all of my life. While the toppings were fresh and tasty during my first visit to this location yesterday, it is far from a NYC style pizza! An authentic NYC pizza is big, has big slices, the pie can barely fit inside the box and the dough is made with 00 Italian flour....not all purpose flour. This chain is using the NYC name to sell pizza that is not a real NYC pizza. Ordered a small 16 inch pie, paid $31 for the pie and then could barely find any ground beef on the pie. Not to mention that I waited an almost 30 extra minutes because they confused my curbside pick up order. Message to manager/owner: Don't cheat your customers, when a customer pays over $30 for your pizza give them the toppings that they are paying for. Please hire some adults to work there, too many children working there, messing up orders and playing. If your going to copy NYC pizza please get on a plane to visit NYC and go to a shop owned by Italians and learn how to make an authentic NYC pie. Two stars for the fresh ingredients. NOT RETURNING......

A classic pizza box! Everything here was well done!

Great customer service! Food came out quick. As soon as I walked into the restaurant it smelled like a NYC Pizzeria where I grew up! The layout of the restaurant and the ambiance. They even had baseball games and movies playing in the background. My favorite movie Sandlot happened to be playing. It brought back childhood memories. The food smells and look great. I can't wait to take a bite. Don't listen to the few who have placed low stars. I wanted to write a review because we don't always write one for exceptional services. I was even asked about extra parm cheese. I will never turn that down. Try them out! You won't be disappointed!

From the appetizers all the way through dessert, we had a great experience. We started the table off with the risotto balls, fried calamari, and the fried mix plate, along with the complimentary bread they bring to the table. Having several appetizers to pass around was perfect for a group our size and gave everyone a chance to try a little bit of everything before the entrées arrived. For dinner, our table had several different dishes, including the Chicken Parmigiana, Veal Parmigiana, and Combination Plate. The portions were generous, the pasta was plentiful, and both parmigiana dishes came covered with a rich tomato sauce and plenty of melted, nicely browned cheese. This is definitely the type of Italian food you come hungry for! I also finished things off with a cappuccino, which was hot, creamy, frothy, and topped with cinnamon the perfect way to end a big Italian meal. Since we were there for my daughter's birthday, they brought out their fried pizza dough tossed in cinnamon and sugar and drizzled with chocolate syrup. It was warm, crispy, sweet, and something different from the typical birthday dessert. It was also perfect for passing around the table and sharing with everyone. A special mention has to go to our server. Taking care of a party of more than 20 people is a lot to manage, but our server was friendly, helpful, attentive, and funny. That personality really added to the evening and helped make my daughter's birthday celebration even more enjoyable. Overall, The Italian Oven was a great choice for our family celebration. Good appetizers, generous portions, classic Italian comfort food, a fun birthday dessert, and great service, even with a party of over 20.

I was in the mood for something good to eat, and I knew I really had to have something good that would satisfy my cravings. I needed hearty, seasoned, a good portion size, and great service. As such, I ended up at The Italian Oven Restaurant, and I am so happy I did. This time, my server was Sarah, and Sarah was amazing. She was so peasant and attentive to the needs of the table. Sarah ensured we didn't want for anything, allowed us time to review the menu, and shared her insights on the new specialty menu items. Thanks to Sarah I ended up getting the Cheese Tortellini with Buffalo Chicken. Let me explain! I received the specialty menu, and my eyes immediately went to the Cheese Tortellini with Buffalo Chicken. I love Cheese Tortellini and I loveeeeeeeee Buffalo Chicken. Seeing them both together truly captivated me. Sarah advised that it has had nothing but good reviews, so I was sold and had to have it. The Cheese Tortellini with Buffalo Chicken was exactly what I needed. It was well seasoned, hearty, a great portion size, and best of all, it warmed my soul bite after bite. Anddddddddd, of course, I had pounds of fresh Parmesan cheese shredded on top of it. Ummmmmmm!!! This was exactly what I needed, and I must admit, I need it again this week!!!! If you are in the Stockbridge area and in need of something that pleases the soul, make time for The Italian Oven Restaurant asap.

Not huge, but two or three people could enjoy. (6 slices cut) I wanted to try something different so we got two and boxed the rest. Shelby greeted and seated us, and although she lacked a little knowledge on the beer menu, she made up for that with a trip to the bar to investigate our questions on sour beer, and came back with two excellent samples! We settled on a Dr. Robot and the Charcut-a-pie. I loved the toppings and balsamic drizzle. Goat cheese and arugula just go together. A little honey and I was in heaven! The crust on this one was a little well done, which disappointed but, the overall flavor was on point. Next, we sampled the Spicy Italian. I'm usually pretty good with spicy things, and while this was no exception, it did have both of us in a small sweat! If you are averse to spicy, stick with something else. This crust was also cooked and not over done. I'm not sure what McDonoughs' obsession is with vaults, but it seems to be a recurring theme around the square. You'll find vaults or at least doors that look like vaults all over. The rest of the decor inside and outside was well done. Exposed brick gives it immediate rustic charm, while black floors, raw wood art, and leather stools wrap the package nicely. I definitely like their lighting! Oversized bulbs hung around the pizza oven bar (which you can sit at if there's space) and giant hoop rings finish the rest of the space. It isn't that glaring light that spotlights your table, it's just a nice warm ambient light that makes you wanna pour a vintage red into a wine glass over and over. Oh! I almost forgot, they do have an outdoor patio up front, so on those less humid days and nights, I'll definitely be hanging out there!

A nice, concise menu. We gave it a good perusal and started with a couple appetizers. Their Fried Chicken Potstickers and the Baked Feta with pita bread. The potstickers were very good, a nice sear and a flavorful filling. The Baked feta was exceptionally good. Done old school, wrapped in foil with a little evoo and sliced tomato then baked until the feta was almost melting. So delicious and flavorful. The interior is warm and open. Tables and chairs have plenty of room We sat overlooking the bar area (the bar is at a lower level). Only thing I would change is sitting at a table vs a High top. Drinks and appetizer arrived promptly. The baked feta was so good warm and creamy, tomatoes and seasoning provided depth. Summer provided the specials of the day as well as her thoughts on various entree. My wife originally was looking at a pasta w shrimp. Summer brought to our attention the pork chop - she said I know you think of how good can a pork chop be but ours is really amazing. So my wife changed her mind and went with the pork chop. I elected for the Red Fish atop orzo. Entrees arrived and wow they looked perfect. That pork chop was thick, nice crisp sear topped with apples ( sautéed perfectly not soggy). My red fish was well seasoned and tasted great. What amazed me was the spinach and tomato orzo! So creamy and subtle it complimented the fish so well. You can't have a Birthday without desert. Again Summer provided great recommendations and insights. Salted Caramel cheesecake for the birthday girl and I had the crème brûlée cheesecake cake. Both were very good not too dense and not fluff. The flavors were not overpowering so you enjoy the flies well as the taste of cheesecake. Price was what I expected, it's not bar food , priced appropriately. Remember I said reservations were at 8 ? They close at 9 and not once did we feel rushed. The staff, especially Summer treated us like the first customer of the evening. My wife digs the whole singing happy birthday , the dessert had the happy birthday message and Summer discreetly asked if she would like the happy Birthday song. They did, and looked like they had fun doing it. Awesome place we will definitely go back!
