Prices are good, but the food is not. The turkey deli is so low in quality, I question how much of it is actually meat. Mayo is the most prominent flavor of most of their sandwiches. Bagels need a revisit on ingredient makeup as well. Unsatisfactory. I've tried twice here and both times have been grossed out more than anything. If you're starving, the servings are big enough for the price, but the flavor is hardly worth it. Today we received a ROTTEN blueberry bagel. I was super excited aboit this place and my first order was nice. But my next order of the exact same things was a horror show with less than half the egg, cold as helland not eddible. I hate inconsistency more thsn anything and you should never order even one single item from this place. Their bagels plis cram cheese are a joke in price and wveryrhing else ia a coin flip. All I can say is DAAAYUUMMM! I ordered a bacon, egg & cheese on a jalapeño jack cheddar and easily could have (and should have) split it with someone else and still have it be a full meal. I am stuffed as I write this after finishing my whole sandwich. This thing was like a whole brunch by itself! No, the Bagel doesn't have a hole but I'm sure you've already read about that by now. It was still delicious, fluffy and doughy. There were chunks of jalapeño and jack cheese inside the top of the bagel that melted all over the sandwich - delicious! I definitely won't make coming here a regular occasion unless I plan on gaining 5 lbs, but will for sure make it a treat after a good workout now and again as I did today. I have lived in Simi over 20 years but have never been to John's Bagel deli. Corrected that today! I drove by it, and saw the sign and realized how much I needed a bagel sandwich. I had the California breakfast sandwich with avocado tomato and Swiss cheese. The bagel is perfect; slightly crisp on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. I work in the same lot at this place and it's such a gem. I love bagels and when I saw this I knew I had to try it. Right off the bat this place is very old school and definitely one of a kind. This is not western bagel or Noah's - this is really mom and pop type. Decor and signs are super out dated but Bagels are HUGE!!! So many flavors - I am definitely gonna need to go back soon. Their bagels are not as dense as your typical bagel, it's actually loaf type or comparable to a roll. I mean it's bread and who doesn't love a good carb load. Lol Not gonna front but prices are kinda steep but I think with the portion size it makes a lot of sense. I saw it was $15 for a bakers dozen - which is rough but one bagel is equivalent to 2 regular ones someone else. I got a chicken bacon on a onion bagel - ~ $10 bucks. Not shabby seeing as I was full off the first half. I went in around lunch and a lot of the stuff was gone but I guess that's how much people go in here. I was thrown off by the lady working, she seemed really rude but I suppose that was just her demeanor which I just decided to look past. I went cause of the great reviews. I really wanted a bagel so decided to try this place out. I ordered a south of the border on a sesame bagel. First thing I noticed was the cheese got everywhere, most of it ended up on the packaging when I got home. The cream cheese was not jalapeño. Salt bagel with avocado is my new addiction. SO DELICIOUS! Everything and onion are close seconds. It's hard to find a quick vegan bfast in Simi that isn't a massive chain or just stupid expensive. My bf and I both get breakfast for about $6-7 dollars if we stick to the basics. The more involved sandwiches do add up but that makes sense- they are huge and could totally be split between two people reasonably. I'd recommend this place to anyone as long as they aren't weird about bagels not having holes...(I don't get that.. YOU GET MORE BAGEL! The texture is chewy but a bit airy, maybe some people prefer a more dense bagel. I think both are great.) The staff is always pleasant and fast and I've had no issues with service or quality after maybe 10 visits. Even on the weekends when they are busy they get the orders out rapidly. We like to sit outside and eat sometimes- a couple Saturdays ago an employee was super nice to my dog when she was having a bork moment- brought her a tiny piece of meat to calm her down- now she is their best friend! Kindness like that definitely scores points with me too. :) To me, this place has a family feel that only years of being in business in the same city can provide. It has a small vibe and hole in the wall atmosphere as the price is right plays on a CRT tv in the corner and you know most other people around are regulars.
