I love this little bagel shop. The staff is so friendly, especially the girl always working the front. The bagels are thick and dense but fantastic! There are 20 different bagel flavors and a ton of options for breakfast sandwiches and more. They were missing a few bagel options due to it being later in the day, but still had quite a few to chose from. I got the #15 club on a sundried tomato and basil sandwich and my husband got a northern bagel on the specialty bagel. My club was perfect and just what I needed. My husbands sandwich was HUGE! He got an arm workout just picking it up to eat it- the sandwich was good, but the cream cheese on it was a little much with the egg and bacon. Never thought a bagel with no hole could taste that good. However I do like holes in my bagel, so it pretty much just tasted like super thick bread with cream cheese on it. My friend and Co worker Rachel got some for the nurses on our unit one day. It was the first time I ever had a John's bagel. I was in heaven eating that thing!! Today I had to be in Simi Valley for an appointment. I went over to John's and got a jalapeño cheese warmed up. I sat in my car and I can only finish half of a half. They're large warm and delicious! I ordered three bagels and I was unsatisfied with the quality of one. When I called to speak to a manager, I was told there was no manager. Six minutes into the conversation, the woman who I was speaking with was all of a sudden the manager. I used a delivery service to get my food and the woman repeatedly blamed them even though it was the quality of the bagel I ordered. Finally made it to John's Bagel Deli this morning. Really trying to support these small businesses during these trying times. I arrived around 10 AM and there was a few people waiting for their orders. My order was taken quickly by a nice lady. I ordered 3 breakfast sandwiches, half a dozen bagels and cream cheese. The breakfast sandwiches were really good as were the bagels. I got 3 cinnamon crunch bagels and 3 blueberry bagels. These bagels are so soft and fresh tasting. John's Bagel Deli is an iconic Simi Valley bagel spot. As mentioned by others if you don't know by now this isn't your typical bagel spot. They don't have the traditional hole in the middle nor should they. Legend has it they wake up at 2-3 am to start baking the donuts. While under new ownership the old owner still assists and can be seen baking in the back if you come early enough. Pay attention to their hours as they typically close in the afternoon by 3pm. This place is great for an early morning bite and the bagels are large enough to leave you full until lunch or even longer. My favorite is the jalapeño cream cheese bagel toasted. They make their own cream cheeses as well. They typically have day old bagels by the dozen half off if you want to grab something for a Sunday brunch might be best to visit late into Saturday. They offer a wide variety of drinks in their fridge. Great service and family ran place. Glad to see the new owners continuing to run this place like the last. read more

First time trying this place today. I got the John's breakfast and added avocado on a cheddar bagel. I wish I got a picture but I inhaled it way too fast lol! This sandwich was MASSIVE and easily could be split between two people or meals. The bagels are not your typical kind that you'd find elsewhere but are SO GOOD! I don't know how they make them (magic!) but they are hearty yet light, fluffy, flavorful and absolutely delightful. Any flavor bagel is made fresh, fluffy, very good and don't have a hole in them! The breakfast sandwiches come with plenty of buttery fluffed eggs and different cheeses and toppings. The best bagel I've ever had! I've never had a NY bagel but this is for sure comparable.

Although this place is delicious, I had to stop going in due to being treated poorly by staff. I had stopped in for a bagel sandwich and waited patiently for the staff to greet me and take my order. After five minutes of waiting nobody even greeted me or approached me. Two more people walked in. As soon as the other people walked in, a worker came to the counter and immediately took their order while I stood there in disbelief. Not only was I blatantly ignored, I was shocked that the worker would continue to ignore me and proceed to take care of the people that came in after me. I went home hungry. I usually ride my bike to this place so it was a waste of a trip and couldn't even swing through a McDonalds on my way home (they don't allow bikes through the drive-thru). read more

I agree with some of the other reviews that these aren't your typical bagels but that shouldn't deter you from coming here. These bagels are huge! The bagels are fresh and I believe made without preservatives. The cheese bagels are much different from the cheese bagels I've had at other places. At John's, the cheese is inside of the bagels. Very unique because the cheese doesn't burn when it's toasted and you end up with cheese on both sides of the bagel. A good one to try is the jalapeno cheese bagel. I recently had a pastrami sanwich on an onion bagel. It was pretty good but could have used a bit more pastrami. Definitely worth a stop if your in the neighborhood. John's closes a bit early (3-4pm) and is closed on Sundays so plan accordingly! read more

Seriously the best bagels around. My work tends to bring bagels from here into work all the time and I am in LOVE with these. The garlic bagel is my favorite by far but I have tried almost every bagel there and I have enjoyed every single one of them. This time I got the South Of the Board on a Garlic Bagel. Two words: I Died. Too good, so filling, so moist for the fillings, so crunchy and crispy for the bagel, so many flavors that work so well together... First, they have a great variety of bagels they make fresh daily! These aren't your typical bagels. You also have to make sure to come early because some bagel flavors do run out! They have delicious breakfast sandwiches and have fell in love with the simple western breakfast sandwich. On your choice of bagel (I suggest the everything bagel or onion bagel) you get a thick piece of egg with bacon and jack cheese. I haven't tried their lunch sandwiches but they come with bagel chips! For those health conscious folks they have vegetarian breakfast and lunch sandwiches! Another thing I noticed is they have a Korean now bulgogi sandwich that I will have to try next time! Honestly, they are some of the best bagels I've ever had. Now what can make these bagels better? The answer is to make bagel sandwiches! I've tried the North of the Border and the New Yorker. I really like lox so the New Yorker is something I always get when I'm there! The sandwiches are delicious and filling. I've never had a negative experience.
