This is by far my favorite restaurant in the area. We are new to the Lake Geneva/ Delevan area and have tried so many restaurants just to be disappointed. This restuarant came highly recommended by locals. I had a cup of soup and the tuna. Both were amazing! It is a little pricey but not unreasonable. I called and asked if they were compliant with current COVID regulations and was told yes and they had removed tables for proper spacing. I made a reservation for 4:30 when service started and hopefully not many people yet. When we walked in all 3 people at the host station put their masks on. After a pleasant greeting we were shown to our table and asked "do you want your server to were a mask while at your table" YES. Service was prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. Food and drink were VERY GOOD, creative and very well executed both flavor and presentation. Reason for the one star is during dinner numerous staff were working without wearing the mask they had wrapped around their forearm. Bartender never wore one along with a woman regularly behind the bar in a chef's coat. As a few more patrons arrived it became obvious patrons were not asked to wear a mask while walking through the restaurant. It is their business to run as they see fit but if you are ignoring guidelines be honest when asked on the phone. We ate our wonderful meals quickly and left. If you are practicing reasonable precautions avoid this place until we have moved past this pandemic. Looking forward to being able to return here after a vaccine. read more

Had a fabulous meal sitting at the bar with friends. We all loved our meals - the mixed grill special was fabulous, particularly the lamb chop. The cherry sauce on the pork was great, not over powering at all, and the filet was very tender. Definitely order the bread, the parmesan made it a highlight. Best key lime pie north of the Florida state line. Enjoyed chatting with the owner and Nathan the bartender really made us feel welcome. Ambiance is warm and inviting - highly recommend! read more

I wanted to love it because of the great reviews but we won't be back. Food was cold and didn't taste any better than I could do myself. We spent over $100 on two meals, with that I expected perfection. Lobster was bland and chewy. My husband had the ribeye and said he has had better cuts of meat from Costco his entire meal was also cold and they up charged the steak by $7 due to meat price increases. Ordinarily I would have said something about the food but it was our anniversay so we didn't want to complain and spoil the night and now a days you have to worry about food retribution if you send it back. We didn't even realize neither of us were not happy with our meals util we got home and fessed up to each other about the food. I gave it two stars because service was good. read more

I would never go back to this place again. The restaurant has a great atmosphere the staff is very friendly but the food is mediocre at best. The service is very slow which is OK if you're going to get amazing food, not so much. One friend ordered the grouper special which was very good, one had the Ahi Tuna tuna which was very tough and a weird flavor, I had the halibut that was so dry. The owner came around and said how is everything and I said my halibut is really dry and his response was do you want a free dessert? The one thing I want to stress is I did not want a starch so our waiter Brandon said would you like double the grilled vegetables, and I said sure. When the bill came they charged me for the extra vegetables. I questioned him and he said well vegetables cost more than starch. I told him you should let people know especially because the fish was terrible so the vegetables were the best thing on the plate. I brought this up to the hostess and she said oh he didn't tell you ? I said no and she said did he take it off the bill? I said no. so when we were leaving the hostess said do you want me to call out the owner? I said no thanks we will never come back. It's wonderful that Delavan has an upper-end dining option. Jonathan's is the place to go for a craft cocktail at the bar or fine meal out. The plates are all made with care and quality ingredients. I have never been disappointed. There is something about this space that could feel warmer, hence the lack of star. The food and drink do the work of a quality hot restaurant, but the ambiance could be more unique. Perhaps more hanging or standing plants? Couches for leisure? Antique lamps? Something with style. I would give it zero stars if I could. Had dinner there last night (a Saturday). Ordered the parmesean crusted salmon. Not good and rather cold. The mixed veggies were also cold. Service was terrible. Waited 15 min from being seated for waiter to come to take our initial drink order and to offer us bread rolls at $1.00 each!!! Seriously? Once drinks came (finally) he took our dinner orders. We then waited about 15 minutes for the soup to arrive (an ad-on, not included in dinner price). Once soups served, we waited 45 more minutes for our entrees to arrive. Our waiter came by once or twice, finally explained they were cooking/serving for a number of larger parties and somewhat apologized for the long wait. He said about another five minutes - turned out it was another 15. Out of "pity", he brought is two small dinner rolls (the $1.00 each kind) for our party of four. Tried to cut one in half to share and it was like rubber. Our waiter was not very attentive and it took another 30 minutes to "prepare our bill" and deliver it to us. Also, the menu prices are reflective of the cash price for the meal. If using a credit card, they ad on 3% to the bill. This place charges upwards of $60 for a simple steak and any enhancements are each an additional, separate charge. Finally, the clientele is mainly the blue jeans/tennis shoe crowd which does not justify a $60 steak or a $40 piece of fish. It's trying to be an upscale Lake Geneva restaurant in small town Delavan. This restaurant is truly the area's ONLY high end dining establishment, unless you want to drive to another city (i.e. Lake Geneva). The food is absolutely amazing: fresh, creative, beautifully plated, and delicious. They specialize in surf and turf, and everything my husband and I have ever tried is worth every penny. Chef Jonathan himself will often pass through to mingle with guests and make sure everyone's food is to their liking. Definitely listen to their specials, too. The specials really take the creativity up a a notch. Oh, and leave room for dessert. We love their crème Brule and the banana bread pudding. The desserts alone are worth stopping in. read more

My husband and I have been there 3 times. Consistent quality, tantalizing and beautifully presented food. My favorite is a tenderloin a la oscar. Melts in your mouth. We will never go anywhere else for date night. Well worth the cost-quality costs money-and here it is worth it. Excellent atmosphere, service and special care of customers. First I will say, very pleasant friendly staff, very nice atmosphere. Our party of four visited on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday. I was concerned about how busy it would be seeing it was a Friday, and they offer fish fry. They told me when I called that we couldn't make a reservation on Fridays unless we had 6-or more people. He said it could be a 15-20 minute wait, which was fine with us. When we got there at 6:30, they were very busy, and the place was packed. We were able to get two seats at the bar while we waited. The bartenders were friendly and made our drinks just the way we like them. We ended up waiting an hour and a half. I suppose they are having growing pains which would be expected for such a nice establishment. We asked about our table 3-times before we were finally seated. Now the food~Two of us had seafood, two had steak. Loved the Seafood topped Grouper and the Swordfish were excellent. The steaks had good flavor but both were a bit chewy. (Tenderloin and ribeye) That was a disappointing but not terrible. None of us liked the Cesar salad, but all the other vegetable and potato sides were very good. The eggnog cheesecake was to die for! Wow. Really..WOW! We would definitely go back, maybe next time during the week when they aren't so busy. All in all, nice place. ;-) read more

We were staying at Lake Lawn and wanted to try something new. We found Jonathan's on yelp read the reviews and thought we would give it a try. It was a Sunday night so it wasn't crowded. We started at the bar where we were greeted by the nicest "fill-in" bartender Lu and she was so welcoming we decided just to eat at the bar. A plus to the friendly atmosphere she made a killer Cosmo!!! We ordered the fresh mussels for an appetizer and outside of our actual visit to PEI they were honestly the best PEI mussels we have had in the states. My husband ordered the grouper special (flown in 3x a week according to the chef) and I had the stuffed pork tenderloin. Both dishes were very good. We visited Jonathan's on Sunday and had the most incredible experience. The inside is cozy and inviting. The server was so nice and gave recommendations for each course. We started with the sea scallops, pork medallions and oysters (we were away from the kids so we went a little crazy). We thought maybe it was a fluke to have such great appetizers, but the sea bass and chicken were incredible as well. At this point in the meal I wished I had been wearing pants with an elastic band, but our server suggested the vanilla creme brulee, so why not? Again, it was amazing. We have visited so many restaurants in Fontana, Lake Geneva, Delevan, etc., and have never had food so fresh and delicious as this. Wish we found it sooner. The place had a nice atmosphere and our waiter was very good. I have to say the food fell well short of my expectations. My Ribeye steak was overdone ( I asked for medium rare and it was medium well to medium in some spots). The meat quality was poor it had very little marbling and for a $46 I expected much better. There was little to no seasoning done by the chef. You would expect this from a small bar and grill but not a steakhouse. Another unusual thing is you couldn't get a baked potato? Steakhouse? I ordered the red potatoes which were slice and fried and not very tasty. I have to say that for $200 for my wife and I this was nothing but disappointing. I'm glad we didn't waste our money on desert but went to the Duck Inn for a Brandy Alexander which was excellent as usual. My recommendation is not to waste your time at Jonathon's. Oh by the way one more weird thing on the bottom of the menu it said there was a 3% surcharge if you charged your meal. How cheap can you get for a supposably nice restaurant. read more

I was in town for our 41st wedding anniversary and checked out reviews on restaurants in delavan wisconsin and Jonathan's was perfect from appetizer to drinks to entrees even the desserts to die for we tried two of them tiramisu and bread pudding backstory is we loved tiesmisu from a place in libertyville illinois and have not found one better for years we have tried till now the homemade desserts made at Jonathan's are so delicious we have a new king of tiramisu and the bread pudding I experienced was the best also home made previously was in St. Louis on business at a little place decades ago have tried to find better but failed until tonight!!! entrees were perfectly prepared and presented wow!!! you will not be disappointed our server Adrian was also so good and patient answer all our questions thoroughly to our satisfaction we will be making the trip here to delavan 1.5 hours for events with family from wisconsin to meet here for our meals. thank you Jonathan!!!!! read more

We stopped in without a reservation on a busy night. They were booked solid but made a space for us at a comfy tall table in the bar. Atmosphere was great, complete with live entertainment. The service was excellent - thanks Cody!! But the food..the food was AMAZING! Fresh homemade ingredients. Every single bite was wonderful. Even what i like to call the 'fillers', the veggies and starch servings, these could have been an entree by themselves! This was our first time in Delavan, so of course I went to Yelp to find a good place to eat. The reviews for Jonathan's were mostly very favorable and they turned out to be true. We shared a house salad which came with well chilled high quality greens on an ice cold plate. After seeing the attention that was given the salad I was confident that the rest of the meal would be excellent. My wife had the crab cake appetizer as her main course (excellent) and I had the Friday fish fry. There was a choice of cod or walleye at a slightly higher price. I chose the walleye which was excellent. It was fried in more of an egg wash than a batter so i didn't have to remove lots of excess batter like I do at most fish fries. It was not all you can eat, but it was more than enough. My only suggestion is that the fish fry comes with 2 slices of very dry rye bread and it would be much better with a piece of hot corn bread. We definitely will return when we are in the area again. read more
