If I had to choose one word to describe my experience at KPEH, I would have to choose uninspired. We arrived around 7 o'clock on a Saturday to a mostly empty restaurant. I only point this out because after we were promptly seated, we waited quite some time for anybody to take notice and come take our orders (which ended up being the same person that seated us in the first place). We started with the peirogies, which I normally love (outside of this restaurant). The actual peirogie part of the dish was very well executed; I just thought that the large amount of butter they used, mixed with the sour cream and baby greens was a a bit off-putting. I would also comment that the $10 price point seemed a bit excessive for what you got (4 tiny peirogies) on the plate. From the starters, we moved onto our mains, which consisted of a roasted pork sandwich and a patty melt. Overall, the roasted pork sandwich was tasty, but may have been a better sandwich if they had balanced out the pork to greens ratio (little less pork, little more greens). The "special" mushroom and swiss patty melt suffered from being too large with very thin, overly toasted bread. What resulted was a sandwich that was soggy in the middle and had a gritty texture due to the over-toastiness. It is also worth noting that after dinner was served, our server never really came back by to check on us and offer any refills. It was only after we flagged down his partner that we were able to get any further relief. I understand the concept of upscale diner that they are going for here, I would just say that to charge these prices, the execution needs to be tightened up a bit. read more

Jonathan's is a reliable breakfast joint. I have been here a few times , and each visit has been great. They have top notch bloody Mary's , though we didn't indulge at our most recent trip. We went to the newer location and it is a simple no frills diner. It does lack some of the neighborhood charm of the original location, however there was no wait and the restaurant is large and clean. A curved bar with a few TVs makes It an option for starting off your college football Saturday with a bloody, breakfast, and the early game. The service is quick and efficient. Coffee was excellent. I tried the Saturday special chili. It was good but not spicy enough for my liking. Breakfast came quick and was outstanding . I got a simple two eggs with a side of very good breakfast sausage. The over easy eggs were cooked perfectly with the yolk the right consistency. The sausage was greasy, but so very good. Waffles were great as well. My girlfriends waffles came with strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream . She really enjoyed them. The menu is large and many other items look excellent. Jonathans knows what it does well and sticks to it, and you have to respect that. Though our meal was pretty simple, it really hit the spot. The breakfast sausage in particular was amazing. In conclusion, though the new location isn't quite as rustic as the old one both restaurants are great breakfast joints worth experiencing . Furthermore, A Bloody Mary and hearty breakfast at Jonathan's is the perfect way to begin a fall Saturday in Dallas, Texas. read more

We walked in looking to try something new in Oak Cliff. We were not disappointed! The menu is impressive. The meals don't disappoint. It's the type of place you can come for a causal burger and unexpectedly be blown away. Its the type of place you could enjoy a double date night with a couple bottles of wine, priceless view of Downtown and feel perfectly at ease. I equate it to Norma's meets Nova. Also if you haven't been to those places - You need to get there before the rest of Dallas figures them out (It may be too late for Norma's). I digress. I look forward to this place as a new local spot. I hope to see it succeed while maintaining it's charm and welcoming feel. Next up, brunch or happy hour! It's not Jonathan's but with that being said, it's owned by the same people and has the Breakfast and Waffles just like Jonathan's except a few jalapeños... which is easy to delete off your order! Here is the scoop, if you don't want to wait in line for the weekend brunch hours this is the place to go! The food is farm fresh and tasty with some more "dinner-esc" options. The atmosphere is loft style and nice! I think since Jonathan's is like the #1 spot in Oak Cliff the TKEH gets over looked like a middle child does but the funny thing is it's better then 99% of the breakfast houses out there.... The Fowl Burger was good. The service not so much! I suggest that if a small establishment has a big party and you have less than a dozen other patrons, those patrons should be told there is a large group ahead of you and it may take a little time to get your order out. At least the patron can make a decision as to if they stay or go. Additionally, I would like to suggest that if it's been over 30 mins and you're a waiter/waitress please let your patrons know why it's taking so long. Don't leave them hanging or make them get up and start looking for you to ask what's the delay. Just a couple of suggestions that might make a difference in your patrons returning or not. read more

What a disappointment. The restaurant sounds more sophisticated than it is. The food was just OK. The famed pierogies were just OK. Service and staff were too chummy, more what you'd expect from a Red Lobster in Shreveport. We liked the framed historic photos on the walls but the other art was straight from Big Lots. Large screen TVs tuned to sports eliciting cheers from a table of lesbians. The place was loud enough because of the music (which the staff loved to lip sync) and the lack of any surface that would absorb sounds. It never ceases to amaze me what passes for a fine dining experience in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas. It is much more what you would expect to be considered the nicest restaurant near a rural lake. read more

Had brunch here with my best friend. This was our first time we were excited b/c of the good reviews. When we pulled in it was super empty so then we thought umm maybe it's not as great. Once we tried the food we were amazed... not sure why it wasn't crowded but the food was really good. I had the power brunch( grilled chicken which was super juicy and not dry at all, spinach , egg whites, and heirloom tomatoes) this was amazing. My best friend had he so papilla waffles and a side of bacon ...another great choice. The sauce on the waffles were amazing they were deep fried. We did have mimosas which I didn't like that much ,but that one thing doesn't stop me from giving five stars. The place is nice and clean inside. This is quickly turning into my favorite eating spot. First visit I had the egg salad sandwich and pepperoni rolls. Excellent! Today I had the turkey pastrami sandwich and pierogi's. Even better! The turkey pastrami had such a fantastic flavor I'm not sure I'll go back to regular brisket pastrami. It can be a slightly expensive lunch (they do have sandwich/soup specials though) but you get what you pay for. When you get what you pay for, in my mind, that's when it's worth it. First time ever. Was wanting Cajun but the place I wanted to go was closed. My sister wanted to try this place. Wow what a surprise. Doesn't look like much and the menu prices will shock you but the food is top shelf. Everything was very well done. I'm not a fan of cauliflower but the cauliflower appetizer made me want to try this at home. If you are in the area and want very good food you can't miss with Kessler Park. My husband and I have eaten here more than 20 times, sometimes on many consecutive Sundays in a row and always eat at the bar. We've usually experienced exceptional service from a lady whom is typically servicing the bar area. The food, specifically the All-in-one waffle and the Kure, are always fantastic, and are served as large portions at a fair price. I'm leaving a One star today to reflect the unprofessional, rude interaction we had with Randy. My husband and I invited our friends with us today and while ordering food & drinks at the bar, Randy was extremely impatient, rude and hostile while takimg our order. He even accused me of not knowing what I was talking about when I asked where the friendly lady who is usually at the bar was today. He blatantly belittled and disregarded our party of 4. Ive never felt more embarrassed for our friends after positively talking up this diner to them for weeks. Based on the interaction with Randy today, we will not return as long as he is working here and will not recommend this place to anyone. The pancakes are to die for here. They come out hot, fluffy and they melt in your mouth when you eat them. I also enjoyed the eggs and grits, but wasn't really a fan of their spicy braised greens. We visited this restaurant late on a Sunday afternoon because we had passed it so many times on Beckley. I was curious, so read up on what exactly it was and perused the reviews. We were greeted by nice wait staff and immediately given a menu and our drink order. They have a nice beer/wine/alcohol selection, although not extremely extensive. DH had the ham that came with two sides. He liked it but had never had Red-Eye gravy, so wasn't sure about that. I had the fried chicken thighs which came with wonderful onion rings (I wished they were warmer - came out a bit cool). I enjoyed the meal, but was not overly excited about it - nothing really special. I thought the thighs would be extraordinary and they were pretty much regular chicken strips you'd get anywhere. We had the Blueberry Cobbler (crumble) and peanut butter pie for dessert. DH said the pie was good, but didn't like the crust. The cobbler was OK (especially the pecans on top), but nothing I would order again. If this place was a lot less expensive (we paid $56.00 for the above - no drinks), we'd probably come more often. I'd like to try a few of the other things, but not sure I'd want to drop that much on a meal that I could get at Mama's Daughter's (except for MD's mushy vegetables..!). Service was great and friendly without being obtrusive, and I enjoyed the way they decorated and decked out the inside of the restaurant. I hope they make it, but I'm not sure this is the neighborhood for such pricey home cooking. read more

Incredibly disappointed...we've been long-time fans of Jonathan's and when we had friends in from out of town we told them how amazing Jonathan's is. We went to the original one and they had I we an hour wait. We went to their other location. There was no room to wait at the hostess stand so my 3 guests were outside. The hostess asked if we were all here and I pointed outside. She stated that we "all had to be in the building" in order to be seated and proceeded to seat the couple behind me as my party walked through the door. As we were seated we were informed that they were short-staffed so then had to wait 20 minutes before anyone even took our drink order. Another 30 minutes passed before we then got our food. At this point we had been seated for an hour before we even got our food. At this point, the experience was disappointing and frustrating that no matter how amazing the food may have been, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth. I do want to say that our waitress, Cherie's,was really wonderful and tried to make up for what else was lacking in the service. She was super sweet. Will be back but not for awhile. read more
