Finally tried this place out! I had the special fruity pebbles pancakes with a side of turkey sausage. The turkey sausage was delicious!!! I've been disappointed lately at restaurants with this but theirs was great. Pancakes were good - bug and fluffy and nice sized. I would put the flavor at 7.5/10 but I should've stuck with my fav cinnamon roll ones. I got tempted by the Special which was good... but I prob would've liked those better. One of my favorite places for a quick Saturday morning breakfast! The triple double skillet is great! Three meats, two cheeses, two eggs any style, cubed potatoes and toast or pancakes for under $10! Can't beat that! The eggs benny variety they have is great too! The only thing I dislike about this place is their drink prices lol. For example, $7 for orange juice and $3.50 for milk is a bit crazy in my opinion. Yeah, it's freshly squeezed to order but that's practically another meal here! My daughter is a breakfast lover and had raved about this place, so when she was in town for the weekend, we went to give it a try with her. Because we were in Troy, everything is in a strip mall, and this place was no exception, so it loses some points for ambience based on that. Walking in the door doesn't add a lot to enhance the ambience, but we were here for the food, not the atmosphere. At 11:30 AM on a Sunday, it was packed when we arrived, so that was a good sign. Considering how busy it was, the staff was doing a great job attending to all of the tables and bringing the food out very quickly. The menu is huge and has a ton of great choices, which made it hard to make a decision. I eventually went with the Yankee Benedict - turkey sausage, bacon and American cheese with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. It was delicious! My daughter went for the PB&J French toast which looked really yummy! My wife made her own omelet and loved it too! Fantastic breakfast spot that I wish I'd visited sooner! We got there by 11:30 on a Saturday for two, and didn't have to wait for a table, but by the time we left, there were plenty of people waiting. I got the create your own skillet, which is choose four ingredients, and your cheese. The over easy medium were perfect. The meal was huge for $10.50. It can easily be shared, like if you share a sweet and savory dish. My friend got the fruit explosion crepe, which not only sounds fun but tastes great too: Crepes stuffed with strawberries, banana and blueberries, top with berry syrup and cream cheese frosting. I was introduced to Jonny Cakes about 2 years ago and I absolutely loved it. I shared my enthusiasm with my family and they are now frequent patrons of this establishment. Today was a different story. We are both on a low carb, high protein diets and were in the mood for a delicious omelets. He suggested Jonny's and I jumped at the chance to visit one of my favorite spots for breakfast. He has not been feeling well, and ordered tea to calm his throat. He ended up requesting a cup of coffee, because the tea was so weak. We both decided to order an omelette and split them. I ordered the Meat Omelets and he ordered the Cali Omelets, which had chicken and guacamole. Our food came out and we were starving. We both dove in...not really paying attention to the overly cooked omelets sitting before us. After a few minutes, we both agreed that they were both way over cooked and were dark brown. They lacked flavor and seemed to have been sitting out for a bit, as the cheese was't melted and the inside wasn't hot. We notified the waitress, who immediately had fresh omelets made for us. The new omelets were okay...but they just lacked flavor. I'm cured of a Johnny Cakes craving for a bit. My suggestion...I realize that it gets busy, but please turn down the griddle and put some TLC into all the food not just the yummy sweet options. The food is incredible. It was our first time eating here. I got the traditional eggs benedict and by far the best one I've had in Michigan (and I've had a lot of eggs benedict around Michigan). The food came out super quick and was fresh. We couldn't stop talking about all the flavors of our food. Loved their coffee and they even had vanilla creamer (my favorite). The prices are accessible (please don't change them) and the customer service is average. I dont think id ever be able to order just one thing. I loved the skillet as much as the pancakes. She got the triple double which is all the meats and 2 cheeses over potatoes with your choice of eggs. BEWARE OF SCAM FOR TIPS!! Ordered breakfast with my daughter, both of our orders were messed up. However, so as not to waste food we settled for what was brought out. A cash tip was left after paying via credit card. However, two days later, it was discovered additional tip money was addd to the closed check. ("cash tip given" written on the check). This is completely unethical behavior, a total scam for our first visit here!! The restaurant is closed until August 11, 2021. We will be requesting our refund appropriately for the tip money we didn't add to the check because CASH was provided to the waitress. This place can be a hit or miss. It's small, not cheap but they give you a lot of food and when you go there it's self seating. The first time I came here it was such a nice experience, my server was so nice and on top of everything. They make their own orange juice and it's so fresh, well everything they make you can tell it's really fresh. I ordered the huevos rancheros with my salsa on the side because it was sooo spicy but so good, and I ordered the crepes which was okay nothing out of the world. The next time I went there I came with my husband and we ordered an omelette, which was a lot of food. The potatoes are okay and they have the option of toast or pancakes so we went with the pancakes, they were good. My only complaint this time it was our service was so slow, it was an older lady she was nice but they were not that busy we had to call her to ask her for things like water couple times and we are not picky but sometimes when you go to places where they have great food and the service is a miss you think about what to expect next time. read more

First walking in the staff 'older lady' offered me and my wife a seat at a 6top and we said we can sit at a smaller table because it's only 2 of us.... So ya. I ordered the 'house made corn beef hash and eggs over easy' and the wife got the chorizo eggs Benedict. Ok first holy fking seasoning salt on the CB hash... Why is it even there? Are your potato cubes preseason in it? If so use different potato's for your hash that's salt bomb made it highly unappetizing. What's your portion amount of CB? Seemed like it was 2oz cb to a pound of over seasoned potatoes... Eggs eggs eggs... If you can't make eggs, don't do breakfast. Some how my over easy eggs were fried crisp on one side and super thin cooked on the other which led to way to much under cooked egg whites. And yes I know over easy has some runny whites but not as much as it was... The pancakes are edible but syrup in a olive oil bottle come on now.. Those bottles have a breather on them and the syrup cloags it up which leads to worlds slowest and sadist syrup caddy. Now my wife's melt your face off chorizo... What in the hell are y'all thinking using chorizo that hot. Totally inedible burn mouth. Again eggs issue. Your poached eggs are bought right? They were over cooked/ microwaved yolk totally cooked. WOWZA! We came here after church on Sunday and the place was PACKED when we got there. Luckily, we only had to wait around 5-ish minutes to get a table. Be prepared, they have a large menu choice! Our server gave us suggestions like their Chicken & Waffles, Traditional Eggs Benedict, and their famous freshly squeezed orange juice. We ended up ordering what our server suggested, and I'll say it again, WOWZA! The prices for the breakfast entrees are a little more expensive than your typical breakfast place/diner, but are definitely worth it. The servings are HUGE and hearty. I probably had the best Chicken & Waffles I've ever had. Crispy chunks of white meat chicken smothered in syrup and whipped cream? Absolutely delicious! Did I mention they have hot syrup brought to your table? Oh yeah! The Traditional Eggs Benedict were also really good. A good hollandaise sauce is hard to make, and Johnny Cakes Cafe did a fantastic job! Your usual breakfast places' hollandaise sauce is way too salty and thick, but I really enjoyed it here at Johnny's! The hash browns that came with the eggs were a little disappointing. I usually like my hash browns super crisp, but the ones we got weren't crisp at all and didn't have that crunch I was looking for. The freshly squeezed orange juice really made up for it though! Food: Benedicts- I have tried a few of them. They have several available if you like benedict eggs. They are all beautiful to look at and tasty in the mouth. Banana foster french toast - This was amazing. I prefer savory over sweet for breakfast but this was sweet and bananas (if you're into that kind of thing), and french toast was tall and fluffy. I loved it. Breakfast Quesadilla - Huge serving and delicious guacamole and salsa. Omelets - I haven't had a disappointing one yet and they come with pancakes! Pancakes - fluffy and delicious. This was a really cute diner. Loved the warmth feel. It doesn't have sunshine blasting in the windows so it's not like you'll have to wear sunglasses inside . The breakfast bowl was absolutely amazing and there was SO MUCH in one bowl that you can make two meals out of it. One thing that would increase the service is by offering cappuccino or lattes. I feel like their space would offer that based on the ambiance. It does have limited seating availability and have only one booth that seats 6. Would not recommend big parties go there, it would just be obnoxious based on the size of the restaurant. Bar area seats 4. Service was pleasant and fast. Jonny Cakes has many delicious-looking items on its menu. However, I was bummed to find that their menu lacks vegan protein options. It would be awesome to see Jonny Cakes add a few vegan staples. For example, JUST Egg can be used to make delicious vegan skillets and other egg dishes. A vegan burger made with Beyond or Impossible patties would also be great. Not your average strip mall diner. Was here for a late Saturday breakfast and absolutely loved the place. It is located in a strip mall and when you first arrive you may think this is just another coney island like-place, but as soon as you walk thru the doors you realize it is so much more. Inside is clean with a modern diner look, fresh paint cute art decor on the walls. They were busy but a table was quickly cleaned for us to sit down at. The menu selection is out-of this-world. Different types of pancakes, french toast, crepes, skillets, omelettes, eggs benny and so much more. Prices are all reasonable and portion sizes are generous. I had the chorizo eggs benedict which was fantastic(check out the photo). They put a spicy red sauce on top which is fabulous. Just the right amount of heat. The english muffin wasn't soggy and the egg was cooked to perfection. The chorizo benny also has guacamole on it. So good. They are open for breakfast, brunch and lunch. They also have a wide variety of wraps, sandwiches and salads if you come here and are looking for more lunch like entrees. With it being so busy the service was good and we were able to get in and out. I would highly recommend this spot if you live close or you find yourself in the area for some shopping. read more

But, the reason for only three stars is the indifferent service. They all look (menu description) and visually look (yes, I stare at the plates at other tables) fantastic. I've had the chorizo benedict and the heuvos rancheros so far. The rancheros sauce is spicy! The side of pancakes with powdered sugar and whipped cream is a must! Jonny Cakes serves the syrup hot as well. The coffee is above average and the server never let my cup get under half full. I was super happy that when I ordered extra avocado, I got a very large portion of avocado all over my omelette (unlike most stingy places!) Corn, tomatoes, jalapenos, cheese and chorizo... yum. We both received huge, steaming and beautiful platters of breakfast food with half left over for tomorrow morning. Everything was well prepared, service was great, and I found a new breakfast spot. This is our go to breakfast place. It's nothing fancy, but they have a large variety of breakfast and lunch options. There are many different kinds of pancakes, I don't even like pancakes much but theirs are great. I also like the chicken and waffles and the turkey Ruben with fries is my favorite for lunch, sometimes i get it for breakfast too. The fries here are SO good.
