Saw this place all over TikTok and was excited to try one of the cool looking desserts. It was kind of busy but I was able to order quickly. I got the geometric apple and my friend got the latte. They were both okay. The inside of the apple had a bunch of layers inside: Cheesecake mousse, apple compote, caramel, Dark chocolate crunch, chocolate sponge. I'm glad I finally tried it. I might go back earlier in the day to be able to try the other desserts but it wasn't bad.
I'm a sucker for cute pastries and this place got me. I got the geometric apple and I thought it tasted great as well. It was expensive but I thought it was worth it to try. I don't know if I would pay for it again. The coffee was pretty good too. The workers were nice and there is limited seating inside.
The desserts here are super special! We got the pumpkin and chai ones, and I loved the chai one especially. The mousse was super fragrant and light. Each dessert had a unique combination of compotes, sauces, mouses, cakes, etc. and every one felt very distinct in character. They do look a bit silly and overpriced at first but they really do deliver in taste too. Each dessert is $13, which sis definitely pricey but I'm ok splurging sometimes on novelty. There was a little bit of a line inside for the desserts. There was a good amount of tables and seats inside to enjoy the desserts and chat. I'd love to try the apple one!
cute café, i was intrigued like everyone else by their geometric apple which i have yet to try! we tried their cortado and matcha rose latte, and they were both amazing. definitely recommend coming here for coffee as well as gorgeous, delicious treats. ambiance: 4.6/5 (small and few tables but very cute) drinks: 5/5 service: 5/5 jonquils cafe & bakery: 4.9/5
Finding Jonquils was a bit challenging as there's no sign outside like other stores, so we initially walked right past it. Once inside, the café has a sleek, modern design reminiscent of contemporary home interiors. However, the blue leather couch by the bay window was visibly worn--peeling and marked to the point that it really needs replacing. There's additional seating downstairs, though I didn't check it out. Service, however, was friendly and accommodating. For both our drinks, y husband asked the barista to add extra syrup which turned out to be a good call. Matcha Rose Latte ($7) with Almond Milk ($1): He noted that the flavors were distinct initially, but after stirring, it looked like strawberry chocolate milk. Unfortunately, it didn't taste much like a matcha rose latte--the almond milk overpowered the other flavors. The matcha seemed low-quality, as it was dark green with a coarse texture. The rose syrup, which has a dark red color, didn't quite have that true rose taste. Lavender Latte ($6.65) with Oat Milk ($1): The lavender layer was baby blue rather than the expected light purple, which made me double-check if I had the right drink. The lavender flavor was distinct but balanced nicely with the oat milk. This was remarkably better than the matcha rose latte.
Such a cute, trendy cafe located on Newbury Street. They are mostly known for their desserts, which are made fresh daily in-house. Their desserts rotate regularly and I always get to try a few new ones. During peak hours, it can get very crowded here, and it may be difficult to find seating. I've tried their drinks but they are a bit expensive and were alright. However, they have the cutest pastries that you cannot miss out on. They come out super photogenic, and the craziest part is that they taste as good as they look! I've tried a good amount of their desserts by now, and I have to say that Rose is my all-time favorite. I also really love Love and Green Apple. Geometric Apple is a popular one made for those chocolate lovers! One is usually not enough for me because they are too delicious. Sometimes they will sell out of certain items if it's busy, so it's better to go earlier in the day. We tried taking the dessert to-go before, but it didn't taste the same. Don't forget to get a stamp card if you're a repeat customer!
I'm failing to understand the hype about this place. We visited from out of town based on reviews and were disappointed with our entire experience. Jonquils Cafe seems more about the "aesthetic" than the coffee or pastries. Speaking of pastries, I don't know if I would call this place a bakery. Sure, they had some desserts, but the lack of variety was shocking. We paid $13 for a cute Instagram-able apple that looked better than it tasted. We spent over $20 for two coffees and one dessert and left hungry. The coffee was nothing to write home about. As a matter of fact, the iced coffee was pretty bad. They also only have one "regular" size and don't offer a large. Lastly, the place is cute inside, but you can't enjoy it because of its limited indoor space. We got lucky and were able to snatch a table outside. It was also dirty -- the tables were not clean, and the bathroom was filthy. I wouldn't go back here when I'm back in Boston.
Very tasty desserts - just a bit on the pricier side but if you want to treat yourself to a dessert experience stop at Jonquils. I was out shopping and did realize this bakery was on the same street I was shopping on. I got the Apple Dessert and it had the sweetest, smooth layers covered with a very light cream. Everything was cooked perfectly. Service was quick and friendly.
Ordered: Iced Rose Latte (~$7) Geometric Apple (~$13): cheesecake mousse, apple compote, caramel, dark chocolate crunch, and chocolate sponge cake Aya's take: I've been wanting to try Jonquils Cafe & Bakery since they first opened a few years ago and finally got a chance to on my second trip to Boston! The Iced Rose Latte was 1) super pretty, 2) the espresso was fresh since the coffee is roasted in-house, and 3) the bitterness of the espresso meshed well with the sweet, floral elements of the rose and creaminess of the drink overall. Really enjoyed it! The Geometric Apple has got to be one of the most unique desserts I've ever had. I was afraid it would be gimicky and not have good flavor but I'm so happy I was wrong. The cheesecake mousse was soft, sweet, and lush. I'm not big on apple desserts but the apple compote and caramel paired well together and were nicely balanced. The chocolate sponge cake tasted good but could've been softer and more moist. All in all, it was absolutely worth having on my itinerary. If I'm back in Boston, I would definitely try their other dessert/drink options. Highly recommend checking them out and supporting this small business!
When I saw the leaf and the apple dessert on Yelp, it was an immediate, ' I HAVE to have that', feeling. So I bribed the person coming from Boston with my special customized spinach ravioli with sautéed vegetables for bringing this dessert in exchange ;) Was it worth it ?! Well, I got to see up close how a celebrity dessert looks, but then I found out it had gelatin, and I am allergic to that, so, my partner got to eat everything- my special dinner and the most exclusive desserts, I got cheated !!! Booo hoo :( The cafe is in an upscale neighborhood ( not surprising), it was perfect weather for that perfect dessert. I was told that the guy who packed it warned against taking it on the flight as it was mousse and it could either melt, or go the opposite way and harden depending on the temperature it is exposed to as against the controlled environment within the cafe. We got the to-go in any case. The cold flight temperature and the short distance home had helped retain the shape but it also hardened a bit, nevertheless it was still sooo unique- a combination of mousse, apple stuffing and a little bit of cake hidden inside- absolutely worth the $10 per dessert ! " Jus sooo good !" was the reaction of those of us who actually got to relish it. Maybe another celebrity chef will make a celebrity dessert which even I can eat too. Christmas is coming.... miracles happen ;).
I can only speak to the drinks here, since we didn't try any of the desserts or pastries. We got the Spanish Lattes, which I recommend. It was just the right level of sweet, with it not being too sweet, but just enough to have the drink taste good. Other than the Spanish Latte, some other of the speciality flavors included a Rose Latte and a Lavender Latte. The inside of the store has a very clean aesthetic, and there is some seating available. Overall, this is a solid option for a good coffee.
Revisit Review: 2/5 My previous review was overly possible due to biased perception from my own experience. As I have mentioned previously that this is a great place to stop by for a break, this is not practically easy in reality. Overly crowded, minimal seats, dirty bathroom, ppl sitting around with a laptop for hours.... Typical problem with cafes in the US where business can't kick out unreasonable customers. For a $6 latte + $10 small cake, default tip, and I can't manage to sit down to eat, had to stand to quickly finish and move on, sigh~ I may as well get it to go, so what with the default tip that's installed? What am I tipping for really? Food is still good which is why it's 2 stars, everything else is POS. Gotta work out better seating arrangement, implement timing on seats, you can let go of the bad customers and keep rolling in the good ones, get a person to regularly clean the bathroom Jesus..... Awful place if you're looking for a quick 10-15 minute break from shopping, best to go to places like thinking cup. Great dessert for takeout if you live nearby or plan to eat it in the park or something.... read more

Food/Drink: My boyfriend and I were super excited to see the display of desserts at Jonquils for the first time. We didn't have much of a sweet tooth at the time but couldn't resist getting two cakes purely because of wanting the tasting experience. I'm not much of a fan of fruit flavored cakes so I definitely liked my coffee flavored one more than his mango flavored one. We also really enjoyed their matcha latte! - Exotique Spheres - Coffee Bean/Leaf? (Can't remember name of the leaf but I know it was coffee flavored) Ambiance: Whether you're seated indoors or outdoors, the dining experience is so unique and feels so sophisticated. I was assuming this place would be more crowded considering the hype I've been seeing on Yelp and Instagram, but luckily we didn't have to fight through any lines. The lowest level has the most spaced out seating if you aren't trying to be so close to the ordering area. read more

100% instagrammable - geometric desserts and cafe aesthetics. Each pastry is like $10 but they are so alluring and call out to you to try all of them. Definitely complex pastries with multiple layers, textures, and ingredients going into each one. Agree with others that the tulip was very mild, but the others I tried (apple, guava cube, maple leaf) had much more flavor. I was most surprised at how many levels this cafe had - outdoor, lower level, and ground level seating. There are a lot of people enjoying teas there. +1 for bathroom inside. Great place to bring a friend who is visiting town! read more

I kept seeing this spot on tik tok and had to try it out for myself. I'm a sucker for cute food that also taste good and this place delivers. Unfortunately they were out of the herbal teas so I opted for a Spanish latte with oatmilk. We ordered the tulip, coffee bean and green apple. They tasted even better than they looked. They are very filling but I wanted to get options to try and share. The the green apple was my favorite as it was cheesecake filling with real apples. The coffee bean ant tulips were very close seconds. The cafe offers patio seating as well as inside seating which is limited but very comfortable. read more
Jonquils is a playful patisserie that serves flower blooming teas and 3D desserts. The desserts are created with great care and attention to detail. The presentation and taste were both perfect. I ordered the cappuccino and honey pear. Both were decadent and delightful. I love that these desserts are subtly sweet. If you want to try one of the cakes, then be sure you arrive early in the day or afternoon. The treats are made each day in a limited quantity to prevent waste and sell out quickly. The sales representatives are always cordial and attentive. In regards to commuting, you can easily take the train or park off a Newbury side street. The reason I rated Jonquils as four stars rather than five is the tea and desserts are a bit price. Each dessert is about $9.25 and the cheapest tea is $4. You should definitely treat yourself and check it out for yourself! read more

We visited this cafe while shopping around Newbury. They had delectable desserts, some pastries (croissants and a spinach feta danish), and a simple coffee menu. My cousin ordered the rose latte, which was absolutely delicious and creamy even with skim milk. I ordered the iced coffee which was a great pick me up. We will be back in the future for the desserts! read more

Service: Excellent Quantity: Great Cleanliness: Great Dessert: Caramel Apple $9.25, Cappuccino $9.25 Drink: Spanish Latte $6, Lily Fairy $7 Finally Took some time out of our busy Schedule for a mini Road Trip from NYC to BOS with my girlfriend. We've been wanting to try Jonquils for some time now. I Saw so many stories on IG promoting Jonquils so I figured I'd give it a try since I am a desert kinda guy. Caramel Apple a Geometric Shaped apple made of Apple, Hint of Cinnamon, and wrapped with Moose. This dessert made me feel like I just took a bite out of an apple pie just without the crust. What made it even better was that exterior moose that wraps the Apple filling with a hint of Cinnamon. To perfectly match this delightful taste I paired it with Lily Fairy. I choose this pairing because in my opinion the Jasmine Green tea enriches the flavor of the Caramel apple and won't overpower and cover the taste of the Apple. but of course you can pair it with any drink of your preference. Don't forget when you Order any of the Flora Teas you would be able to see it bloom in that elegant Wine Glass. Hold and drink with caution because the glass is "HOT" . You're advised to hold the glass by the Stem and not the Wine Glass its self. It takes about a min to two for it to fully bloom. Cappuccino was a piece that just wowed! me and blew my mind. That first taste into the cappuccino was so rich in flavor, creamy with some Crunchies at the base with a sponge cake. If you're the kind of person that likes creamy Desserts this is definitely the one you need to try. With this dessert I couldn't resist but to pair it with their Spanish Latte because of the condensed milk in this Latte. It's not too sweet, just right with a bite of the Cappuccino. With that said, because of the great experience we had. We ordered 2 more Desserts to take back with us to New York to Share with our loved Ones Just remember to have a cooler bag with you due to the desserts are temperature sensitive. Overall My experience was Great! I would definitely come back here again and recommend to anyone that loves dessert and a nice spot for brunch. you get the option of Dining in or Seated outside at their outdoor seating as well. Wow, dessert like art!! We came here to try the Exotique Spheres, but they were sold out :( Definitely come early! Since we were here, we decided to try Apple Caramel. First bite, wow! The Apple Caramel was perfectly sweet, soft on the outside, filled with light cream cheese and layered with caramel, chocolate and an apple puree. At first, I was hesitant about the cream cheese, but the cream cheese did not overpower the dessert. It was a perfect balance of sweet and savory. Burst of delicious flavors all in one bite. Amazing! Staff was very friendly. They let us bring our dog in as long as he stays in the backpack. They have a beautiful sitting area to enjoy their drinks and dessert. Very IG worthy, haha! Really nice cafe but limited options and slightly overhyped. There were three more fall themed options that day and it arrived on a paper plate. The outside layer of the ginger pear was lightly flavored but felt really gelatinous. The inside had different layers of cake and jams which worked well together. I wished there was more textual contrast in the whole dessert but it was fun to try. read more
Visiting Boston? Y'all have to make a stop at this bakery! The desserts and treats are insanely beautiful and very unique! I mean just look!!! We got an order of the Mango/Passionfruit Exotique Sphere and a Pink Flamingo specialty drink. The sphere was light and fluffy which was a pleasant surprise. And the fruity taste wasn't too overpowering. And the drink? So refreshing! The combo of lychee & guava was elite. read more

Great Great experience for a Date evening! My husband and I got three different deserts and they were all amazing: Chocolate raspberry, Guava and apple. Unique flavors and stylish designs. The owner was very kind and explained the business concept in a very professional way. I definitely recommend this place and will come back soon. read more

I really wanted do give this place a 5 Star... There was a few thing that stopped it, but first I want to go over my whole experience. This is a really nice place located in Newbury Street. They have a few indoor and outdoor seating which is really nice. The decoration is also nice overall location and decoration gets a 4/5. This was my 2nd time around this place, the first time I went was 30mins before closing, and they were out of pastries, which I get could be my fault. 2nd time around I went at 3pm and the only thing they had was coffee bean pastries. Now, if you know that you sell out fast, even if you want to keep the pastries fresh you should make more. Besides this when I went to order, I asked for the coffee bean which was fine, because I also wanted to try the flavor. I know they had cool looking teas and drinks, and I wanted to try some so I asked for a recommendation. Of their beat drinks with the best presentation. I might as well spoke a different language because they looked at me like they saw a ghost and did not no what to respond. I asked again and they gave me a bunch of options, I asked again and finally I said which are your top 2 and bought those. Now, they gave me a rose late and a green tea in a plastic to go cup with no presentation. I was really bummed because I saw some pictures of cool drinks. The people were nice, but did not know how to recomend to their clients, customer service is a 3/5. The coffee bean was really yummy great desert I would order that again. However the coffee and tea were meh... I won't order coffee from this spot and would try something else. Overall desert is a 5/5 drinks a 2/5. Now, would I come to this place again... Yes, I will probably go right when they open just to see if service and food is better. read more

Was so excited to see what the apple looked like on the inside and was surprised that even the apple core was represented in the interior of cake. If today is a "treat yourself" day, I recommend stopping by Jonquils on Newbury Street. Sure, they have great coffee and tea options but it's the case of pastries that will give you that kid in a candy store feeling again. Every dessert is flawless and almost too pretty to eat. The flavor combinations leave little to be desired. There are a few tables downstairs but, when they're busy, it can be tough to grab one since people usually camp out with laptops and don't give them up easily. In the spring and summer, they do set up tables on the sidewalk which is pleasant. Jonquils is not a cheap coffee date spot but the quality and uniqueness make it worth it. read more
If you ever wonder if a cheesecake could look like a Granny Smith apple, the answer is now YES! We were on our trip in Boston and were introduced to Jonquils by a local friend. I was so excited to see the cheesecakes that were made into so many different shapes and colors. And I have to be honest I had a doubt that wether it would actually taste as good as it looks. But -- it turned out that it tasted great!!! I had the apple caramel and the cappuccino ones, they were both delicious. The cheesecakes also had fillings which made it even flavorful when you took the bite. Though it is a bit pricey ($9-10/slice) and might now be something that you can buy from day to day, I would definitely wanna try other flavors in the future if I have the chance. read more
I'd give this a 3.5 if Yelp had half stars. Definitely a cute place, very aesthetic cakes and such. But for $11, it's a bit too sweet for my liking and the portions are puny. Out of the ones I tried, my favorite two were the cube and tulip. The spheres was a mango passion fruit flavor and the flavors were very strong. The tulip has a cookie on the bottom and has (what I think is) biscoff or something similar inside. The leaf was a strong coffee flavor which i personally didn't like but a lot of my friends said they enjoyed it. I don't love super sweet tasting things, and these cakes were a little bit over the line for me. Still isn't bad and worth a try if you want to spend $11. read more

Artists come in all forms. Michaelangelo sculpted cold, hard marble to appear soft & supple. Jonquils creates 3D geometric shapes out of cake, literally "art you can eat." My dessert partner jokingly ordered "one of each," which no surprise, is a request Jonquils fulfills multiple times a day. We settled on three to share ($8.95 each): Exotique Spheres (mango & passionfruit, my absolute fave), Caramel Apple, & Coconut Pineapple. Too gorgeous to eat, but don't let that stop you from digging in. These cakes are beautiful on the inside & out. read more

Cakes are like art here. I think different people would have difference views on the cake flavors. The mango one (exotic something) is my favorite. I didn't like the green apple one. The drinks here are also really good. Highly recommend this place. read more

Love the desserts and coffee!!! Ordered a leaf looking like cake called cappuccino, and a chocolate with caramel cake, also a rose latte. They're all delicious and very pretty. Definitely insta worthy!!! If you want to bring your pet, make sure they're in the bag!!! We asked if we can bring our little Mochi into the store, and told them he'll stay in the bag the whole entire time. The manager is very nice and told us as long as he's in the bag, it's fine. Loved the place and the desserts!!! read more

As a New Yorker, you know there are tons of great deserts spots and people go to those spots for Instagrammable 50% of the time including myself hah. After recommended by a friend and saw the ig pictures of the amazing geometric shape desserts, we had to come here of course. We ordered two desserts: Apple Caramel - a very delightful dessert that is made into a geometric Apple Shape. The first taste once you take a bite into it you can taste the actual apple mixed with a hint of cinnamon. The mouse that surrounds the apple with cinnamon gives it a cheesy/creamy taste and the base is a chocolate sponge cake. My preference is to pair this edible delight with tea. I paired it with lily fairy which comes in this nice wine glass and you will have the opportunity to see it bloom into this beautiful tasty tea but be careful it is hot so handle with caution. We were told it takes about a minute or so for it to fully bloom, which actually takes less than a minute so get your camera ready! Lily Fairy is a jasmine green tea infused with an actual lily. I'm not much of a flower person but to see this flower bloom in the tea was just amazing and definitely a piece of art itself in one. Cappuccino was a piece I didn't expect to taste as it did because the shape design was so unexpected in a way that it blew my mind. That first taste in the cappuccino was so rich in flavor, creamy with some kind of cereal flakes in the base along with a sponge cake. This was my favorite for sure. Overall My experience was great! i would definitely come back here again and recommend any foodie that loves dessert, tea and coffee with a nice spot to just sit and enjoy these elegant edible artwork. One thing to note is that their dessert sold out very quickly. We went on a Monday around 1pm with good selections left to choose. By the time we finished around 2pm, most of the popular ones are gone. So I would definitely recommend to come early! read more

Loved stopping in here for a quick bite and drink! I definitely do think this is a "eat here" type of place, rather than taking it to go. I had to get one of their beautiful cakes. I got the Apple Caramel and it was soo yummy, I really enjoyed it and did not want to share. Tasted as good as it looks. I also wanted one of their stunning Flora Teas. These only come hot, which makes sense, but just wanted to point that. Unfortunately when I went the majority were sold out and I think they only had two available. So I didn't get my top choices but it was still fun to get and see how pretty the floral was! It is sort of hard to drink because you want to drink it warm but the glass is SO hot, but we made it work. The taste was how you would expect tea to taste and I love tea so I was happy with it. I would not come here past 4 pm they actually run out of Geometrical cakes. We got the last apple. They also don't offer free wifi. I thought the cakes were good but the vibes weren't really there. No to mention it was $10 a cake. Not worth it imo. read more

I was so excited to come here after seeing this on Instagram! Tried 4 mini cakes: Pear, Mango, Geo Apple, and the Special! Personally my favorite was the pear (how is the pear flavor so strong yet not too sweet?!) followed by the Apple, Special, then Mango. But they were all so good! We couldn't figure out what exactly the flavor was for the Special (maybe berry + white chocolate?) Also tried their Jasmine with Love tea which was a perfect complement for the pastries! There is some outdoor seating as well 3 (small) floors indoors, with a restroom on the bottom floor. read more

Cute little place. My friend brought me here after lunch when I was visiting. The moment I walked in I saw so many cute pastries in different shapes, some were so pretty! We got an "Apple" and "Exotique Spheres". The both tastes yummy, not too sweet, creamy but wasn't heavy. I loved them! They also have interesting drinks, I don't drink coffee or tea but I saw my friend getting a drink and she said it tasted good. There were more seats downstairs. I highly recommend this cute little cafe. read more
Either this is a new fun little place or I have been walking right by it for a while now and I'm glad I finally found it. It's a nice place inside. Decent amount of space to sit with 2.5 floors sorta. The music was nice, not too distracting. They have WiFi and outlets for you to use and the chairs were decently comfortable. They have a large drink selection. I got one of their three chai lattes and was definitely satisfied. They ran out of desserts when I got there at around 4-5 pm on a Monday so I have nothing to say about that. I think this will be a new addition to my rotation of coffee shops to do hw in. read more

Came for a weekend from NYC and this place didn't disappoint! If you're looking for a top notch patisserie and want those aesthetic looking desserts that could pass as jewelers or art pieces, you've come to the right place! It was a wonderful afternoon of yummy treats and great coffee and tea. Would definitely come back again! read more
