While I was visiting New York City for work, I ended up going to Joseph's Restaurant for dinner one of the evening some work colleagues! The restaurant is located in the Financial District near The Battery. The restaurant has a really welcoming atmosphere that works perfectly for a business lunch or dinner! The menu has a variety of options to choose from pastas, chicken, steak, antipasti and more! Some of the options include the following Ravioli Primavera Gnocchi Bolognese Fettucine Cacio E Pepe Crispy Sea Bass Chicken Parmesan Grilled Hanger Steak Veal Chop and so much more! It was so difficult for me to choose between the carbonara and the cacio e pepe. I ended up ordering the carbonara, and it was fantastic! The pasta was cooked perfectly, the sauce was rich and flavorful, and it had that comforting, homemade quality. You could tell those noodles were fresh! It was easily one of the best meals I had during my time in the city. As good as the pasta was, I have to give some credit to dessert as well! I ordered the pineapple upside down cake, and it was absolutely delicious. Sweet without being overwhelming, moist, and a great way to finish the meal. if I went back, I'd order it again! The last time I had a Pineapple Upside down cake was in Hawaii. The service was fantastic! Everyone we interacted with was friendly, and attentive! The staff did a great job taking care of our group! Classic, old school italian joint! Came here for a business lunch recently and ordered off their prix frixe menu. Everything tasted great, and good service that didn't feel rushed. Might have been priced a little high but... guess that's on par for FiDi! The appetizers were really good but I wasn't a fan of my pasta. It didn't have a lot of flavor like I expected. The rest of my party loved their food though. I think I chose the wrong thing for me. I did like my lobster bisque. My order: Lobster Bisque (5 stars), Linguine with Mussels (3 stars) Appetizers ordered: Calamari (5 stars), Grilled Octopus (3 stars, not for me), Burrata (5 stars) Dessert: chocolate mouse was delish The staff was super attentive and that was the highlight of our dinner! As classy as they come. Joseph's is that old school Italian joint in Fi-Di where you know you'll get a quality meal. My aunt lives in FiDi so it's always nice coming downtown to spend time with her. This is one of her go to spots and she wanted to see what I thought of it. For a Wednesday night there was a decent crowd. I could tell they were mostly regulars there. The staff was impeccable. Not too pushy but made she we had everything we needed. I started with the buffalo mozzarella. The pesto was what stood out. It was so well made. The whole appetizer was light. I tried one of my aunt's shrimp which she ordered to start and that was also quite delicious. The main event was a veal piccata. You could cut the veal with a spoon, that's how tender it was. The sauce was incredible. It came with a small medley of veggies. All so delicious. Now I was the only one who ordered off the pre-fixed menu, so mine came with a dessert. It was all about the cheesecake. Again, another light dish and the perfect way to end the meal. My aunt and uncle got the tiramisu. I don't usually go near a tiramisu because of the coffee component. They urged me to try it and I have to say... it was also delicious. More boozy than coffee which I can get behind. All around a great meal and a great place to catch up with my fam. read more

Incredible experience. We held a dinner for 18 in a private room that was lovely. Italian scenes, wine bottle-lined and even a working gas fireplace. It made the underground feel more like a wine cellar. The food was excellent - from appetizer to dessert -- and even had delicious GF options. The wine selection was small but very good, and the servers ensured our glasses were never empty. Our primary server, Juan, was attentive and helpful. Never far away but also never intrusive. We just ate here and the atmosphere and wine selection were great. The appetizers were very good (burrata and beet salad) and the cheesecake and panna cotta were excellent. The bolognese was also very good. I however ordered the cacio e pepe and it was borderline inedible. There wasn't any Parmesan flavor and it appeared to be simply buttered pasta with shaken pepper. I'm not sure what that was about but for a dish that is a favorite for many (and not hard to make if we're being honest) it was shocking that an Italian restaurant would serve it. Went here for a business dinner and let me tell you I was pleasantly surprised by how wonderful and delicious everything was. The waiters were attentive and constantly refilling our drinks without also being annoying and checking on us. I got the baby wild arugula salad as a starter and it was gorgeous and dusted with plenty of Parmesan. The arugula was perfectly dressed with the dress and the portobello mushrooms added a wonderful flavor and texture to the salad. It was delicious. For an entree I got their swordfish special and the fish was perfectly tender and cooked to perfection. It was covered in a red sauce with olives which I was first concerned about but as soon as I took a bite it was heaven! The sauce was the perfect acidity while having also a buttery flavor that complimented the fish well. This restaurant was wonderful and I would definitely return if I was in the mood for well executed Italian food and saying that when there are tons of not only restaurants but Italian ones in the city should speak for itself. For entrees, I had the vitello saltimbocca which is thinly sliced veal topped with prosciutto, mozzarella, and spinach topped with a delicious cognac sauce. Came with a side of sautéed veggies. I really enjoyed it. My cousin got the lobster pyramids which look like wontons but are a variation of ravioli. We truly enjoyed our meal, the service, and ambiance overall. Cacio e Pepe pasta has about half a cup of melted butter in the bowl. It was scalding hot and very greasy. Caesar salad was meh. $9 for two cokes. I was shocked the bill suggested a 30% tip (calculated including the tax) and a $3,50 charge to pay by credit card. Total was $130 for a lunch for 2 people. In Rome the same meal was $40. A group of us serve on a not-for-profit Board and were in New York for meetings. I decided to make a reservation at Joseph's for dinner one evening. From the welcome to the recommendations for dinner, service was outstanding! Warmly welcomed. Seated right away. I had pre-requested separate checks and was told "not a problem". We enjoyed a leisurely dinner with appetizers, wine and some dessert. A friend and her shared the mixed green salad (which they split into 2 plates) and the Bronzino (again on 2 plates) with a side of grilled vegetables- cooked to perfection! Another friend had the halibut and enjoyed every bite. For dessert we shared the cannoli and the tiramisu- Wow! GET THE CANNOLI!! True Italian cooking. Outstanding service! We went there for dinner because we were able to get a reservation, even though we had never heard of it. It was wonderful. It was surprising and mysterious to have to walk downstairs into an underground hideaway. Once there it was lively and crowded (maybe a little too crowded). The service was great. The waiter made several good recommendations, some more expensive and some less expensive than our original choices. The food was delicious. We'll definitely go back. One negative: apparently when someone smokes cigarettes outside near the door, you can smell it pretty strongly inside. read more

My boyfriend & I went to Joseph's during NYC Winter Restaurant Week and had a lovely experience. We went on a Friday night, and the restaurant was surprisingly not very busy, and it worked to our advantage because we had such excellent wait-service. It seemed that all waiters were honed in on us having a lovely evening. We ordered a bottle of wine off of the recommendation of our waiter and ordered the following: His: Eggplant Rollatini, Veal Picatta, and Cheesecake Hers: Gulf shrimp, Rigatoni alla vodka, and tiramisu Everything was fantastic, and for $42 each, such a steal! We both agreed that the eggplant appetizer and rigatoni alla vodka stole the show. I would recommend coming here for a romantic Italian meal anytime, even outside of Restaurant Week. read more

One of the best experiences at a restaurant in the city we've had!! From the hostesses, to the servers to Lind, the manager, to the owner, we were welcomed and treated like royalty. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing, the service was warm and friendly and the food was decadent. Clearly the owner uses the best of ingredients and employs the best of the best in the service industry. Even if we didnt have Bridewater, Warren and Peapack-Gladstone in common, we would be back! This is an Italian spot in the Financial District. It's got a bit of a clubby feel to it. Like super dark, blue lighting, modern, curtains, etc. I opted to sit at the bar as I was dining solo. The bartender apparently had a couple people she knew sitting at the bar. So I was essentially ignore the entire time while she focused on her friends down at the end of the bar. The menu is plentiful. I opted for my NY fav, pasta alla vodka. It was good and tasty. Not the best, but satisfied my craving. A perfectly sized portion. Wine list is decent. Can't say I'd return. It is best to skip this restaurant. We went to a dinner here as a group. The general manager makes a list of excuses for the poor and inconsistent service. The tiramisu is amazing. The rest of the food is lackluster and overpriced. Great Italian spot in FiDi! I came here with coworkers at 12pm and we were seated right away. I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time since there was a full house by 12:30pm. They have pretty good specials and offer a variety of Italian dishes. My favorite was the Eggplant Rollatini, Grilled Octopus, and Grilled Hanger Steak. The Eggplant Rollatini was a good portion. It was stuffed with mozzarella cheese, lightly breaded, and sat on top of marinara sauce. The Grilled Octopus was different than what I've tried at other restaurants. It had a seasoning on the outside that made it really tasty. It's also a big enough app to share with the table! The Grilled Hanger Steak was cooked a bit more rare than I like but it was still really flavorful with the wild mushroom fregula and the tangy porcini vinaigrette. read more

Hand's down one of my favorite restaurants in NYC! My former office was near by and me and coworkers would always treat ourselves to lunch and even a few dinners there. In fact we had a lunch that continued on into a dinner! The staff laughed and moved us to a different and larger table so we'd feel better about being there all day. Came here with a vendor for Christmas lunch. Upon entrance, there was an upscale atmosphere alongside great service. Coat check * daily specials - worth trying * wine racks along the walls. We ordered Cabernet Sauvignon (Duckhorn) for the table. I ordered a burrata appetizer smothered in balsamic glaze which was particularly enjoyable alongside my glass of wine. For the entree, I ordered the chicken special with a side of vegetables. Although the portions were small, the dish was great especially since I already indulged in the appetizer. To finish it up, we ordered fresh cheesecake and tiramisu. The cheesecake wasn't my favorite but as for the tiramisu, my coworker's fork kept wrestling my own. GET THE TIRAMISU! Great old-fashioned Italian. I didn't think the Decour would be nice as it's on the lower level. It's like a cozy wood-paneled gentleman's club from the 1960s. I picture gruff men smoking cigars and talking "business" while their pretty wives went to the powder room to talk. The staff is welcoming. The food is really delicious. Joseph's is closed for two weeks, at least since June 4, 2021, because of Covid-19. Perhaps a staff person was infected - more than one year after the pandemic began and several months after vaccines were available for adults. Despite the voicemail message saying Joseph's was closed because of Covid and the pop-up notice on the website stating they were closed for two weeks, I saw a review from "Cora T." for June 4, 2021 AND I received an email confirmation of my online reservation for June 10, 2021 - making me think that the restaurant was open. I left two phone messages at Joseph's (no response) and Yelp-messaged Cora T. (no response). So apparently, ***Joseph's closed because of Covid-19 within six days of the last review (June 4) and my online reservation (June 10). Joseph's should at least check their phone messages and disable the online reservation platform until they are back in business. read more

Went to Joseph's on a recommendation from a friend. I must say I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. It was very solid good food. The only reason I gave the place three stars was the price. It was a little steep for two pasta dishes and a cocktail. Ambiance: Very low key. Downstairs entrance to a really nice bar and dinning room that is quiet and has a private feel to it. The host was most polite and the bartender/our server also was very pleasant. Food: I had the Bolognese and my girlfriend had the Carbonara. Both dishes were prepared very well and were flavorful and fresh. The pasta was cooked al dente which made the dishes most enjoyable. The portions were large and we both had a little left to take home for a midnight snack. I will return to try another dish as they have a massive menu. I would recommend Joseph's for solid and tasty Italian fare. The only negative comment I have is at the end of the meal we were met with a bill that was in my opinion a little hefty compared to comparable restaurants. read more

Joseph's is a hidden gem in the financial district. I've had some rest Italian food in the city, but this place really shines. I visited the spot for a working lunch on a Thursday afternoon with a business partner (who swears by the place). She couldn't have been more right, the food was incredible. To start, we split a crab cake and mozzarella caprese. Both were fantastic. Neither could have prepared me for the brilliance of the main course though - veal osso bucco. Cooked perfectly with melt off the bone meat over risotto, this dish solidified the 5 star rating for me. Do yourself a favor and visit Joseph's if you haven't done so already. If Dominica is at the bar, ask her for recommendations if the menu's length triggers your indecisiveness. She's spot on. read more
