Parking was a bit tough but I got lucky parking down the block. The kids wanted to put our name in, while I looked for parking, because it looked super busy, which is a good sign! Anyway, when I got there, we waited less than 10 min, got seated and ordered: - Crispy rice w/ Spicy tuna = so yummy! The kids loved it too! (I ate their jalapeños) - 2 of them ordered an Avocado roll (looked good) - Then they ordered a Shrimp tempura roll - And a 99 Degree roll (my son liked it!) - Then 2 of us ordered a Tonkatsu Ramen (mine was the spicy Tonkatsu ramen) = Good! Jounetsu Ramen - The kids love the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna (I ate the jalapeños!) - Ramen Near Me - Long Beach, California

Another place that had been on my list to try for aeons - finally tried it last Friday for lunch (most of the menu is a dollar or two cheaper for lunch on weekdays than the rest of the time, as indicated by the slashed prices on the menu). Funny enough, I'd passed it by a million times on my way to places further down 4th st - it's a lot smaller than it looks from the outside, with only a single row of a few tables, plus the patio area (though it is fun that the tables inside look right into the kitchen, which takes up the rest of the building.) Ramen prices are currently $15-16 for lunch on weekdays ($16-17 the rest of the time), which unfortunately is pretty reasonable-sounding these days (I had the spicy tonkotsu, my usual ramen order). They also have a combo where for $6-8 more, you can get a mini salad and a half-sized rice bowl - being my first time trying the place, I had to also upgrade and try their unagi, especially after the last time I'd had unagi being rather disappointing. Service was great start to finish, zero complaints there. The salad was just a salad, nothing particularly exciting about it - pretty good dressing, but obviously not the point of the combo. The unagi was *excellent* (definitely worth $8, and almost as large as some nominally full-size unagi bowls I've had other places.) Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned unagi. The ramen was... good. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, and probably as good as any other ramen I've had in Long Beach. Not as good as some ramen I've had in parts of LA with more of a Japanese restaurant focus, though, but solid. Good but not amazing broth, good but not amazing noodles, good but not amazing portions... I will say, though, the *meat* in the ramen was top tier - some ramen places, even extremely good ones, skimp on the pork belly unless you pay extra, with just a couple thin-shaved pieces of pork. Here, you get a solid amount of pretty thick-cut, juicy, meaty pork belly, definitely more than I was expecting. Zero complaints there. (I was going to give them 4 stars, but decided to give them 5 entirely on that basis. It *is* probably where I'd send people at this point if they were looking for ramen in LB - HiroNori has better noodles and slightly more umami-ful broth, but Jounetsu definitely has better - and more - meat, plus you're probably more likely to get a table quicker.) Their special lunch prices also include *extremely* cheap Japanese beer (the usual imports you see at every Japanese place), and $2 off all the sake. I had a $12 nigori (normally $14), which given it was a 375 ml bottle, isn't bad at all (admittedly the same bottle is $6.50 at Total Wine right now, but obviously you're paying for more than just the bottle itself.) p.s. parking sucks, but you know what there's always plenty of parking for? Came around 7pm, ordered Spicy Ramen and Spicy Tonkatsu. The service was awesome. We were greeted with a warm welcome as we entered and we ordered within a few minutes of sitting. Food came out fast and was delicious. This was my 1st time eating at the establishment. Dining in was a worthwhile experience! read more

The restaurant is small and cozy, the set up of the restaurant is very cute. The service was good, Steve just seemed a little overwhelmed when it was rush hour. We had relatives that came to town from Houston and happened to see this ramen place on yelp . We've never been there either and wanted to try some place new as we love supporting local restaurants in the LBC. My son made reservations easy for party of 8. Intimate space with Japanese inspired decor. There is out door seating but they were able to accommodate us inside. Since most of us have been to Japan , it reminded us of those ramen places we went to around Tokyo . Service was excellent and food came out timely. Tonkotsu ramen was delicious. The chicken ramen was also very good. We also tried the Pokémon roll since we're collectors . Parking was a little bit of a challenge because it's street parking. Jounetsu Ramen, I love you and you are now review number 1200 for me! I feel so accomplished! First off this is my favorite ramen spot in Long Beach. I've had both the Spicy Miso Ramen and the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen. Both were amazing and perfect for cooler weather with the right amount of spice and heartiness. My most recent visit, we took advantage of their happy hour where I enjoyed the Gyoza, Pokémon Roll, and Shrimp Tempura Roll, all at reduced prices. Best part is, they had happy hour on a Sunday! Keep in mind that on Sundays happy hour ends at 4:59pm. This place is super cute, I've sat both inside and outside, with the latter being surprisingly good for people and dog watching. One of my favorite ramen spots in the city. Yesterday they had happy hour until I think 5pm so the Sake was half price. Hot sake is great on a chilly day with a nice bowl of ramen. Came here last night around 7:15pm with my boyfriend and didn't have to wait long at all to get seated, and our food came fairly quickly! Our server checked up on us from time to time and would refill our water, so that was nice. Parking is pretty tough though, even for a weekday night (Tuesday) but there was one open spot in the neighborhood nearby so we got lucky. I'd say this place is still worth finding parking for. It's a cute little shop with indoor and outdoor seating. Don't be afraid to sit outside if it's cold out because they have heat lamps attached to the ceiling, so it was warm and comfortable. We ordered the salmon poke tacos, tonkotsu ramen with chicken, and spicy tuna bowl. It was all delicious. I liked how they gave so much chicken in the tonkotsu ramen, it was super filling! Don't let the portions in the picture fool you, the bowl is actually very deep so it doesn't seem like much but it was more than enough. We will definitely come back another time! read more

Discovered this place from a TikTok video. My boyfriend and I got curious, and we decided to check it out. For appetizers, we got the mirin chicken and the pork buns. Mirin chicken was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! To start off with, that first bite is so crispy and then you're hit with the flavorful juices. Absolutely 10/10 chicken I have had! Next, pork buns were very yummy. The fresh veggies with the pork blended so well. For our entree, we got the shrimp tempura roll cut, pork bowl, and tonkatsu ramen. Shrimp tempura roll was fresh off the press. You can feel the warmth of the freshly cooked tempura. The pork bowl was so delicious! Definitely, mix it all together to get the juices from the bottom blended in. Lastly, the ramen was outstanding! I love this place for many reasons. Their food, service, and happy hour are all things that contribute to my love for this restaurant. Of course their ramen is delicious but I highly recommend their wings. They do a dry rub but nothing about those wings are dry. Be prepared to bite into the juiciest wings you've ever had. I ordered a Shoyo Ramen but I regret over it. The noodle does not blend into the soup and the soup tastes too bland. The menu said the soup has been stewed for 18 hours but I did not agree. We ordered the spicy tonkatsu ramen and the regular tonkatsu ramen. I'm a fan of spicy and the spicy tonkatsu was perfect amount of spice for me. I enjoyed the pork broth in the tonkatsu ramen, not too porky like some other ramen spots I've been to. Considering we were the only ones there during the time, service was fast and our shrimp tempura roll came out first & the shrimp tempura was still warm. We also got an iced green tea which was very refreshing which had unlimited refills. There was inside seating as well as outdoor seating. After a weekend of light drizzle I was thinking ramen was the go to choice for lunch! I found Jounetsu nearby our hotel so we decided to give their lunch special a shot. On a Sunday afternoon around 2pm, we were able to find street parking easily across the street. We were quickly greeted and seated by the waiter upon entering. There are plenty of seating inside and outside of the restaurant. We opted to start off with an order of takoyaki. It was not as crispy on the outside as I would prefer but overall it was not bad. I would give it a 3.5/5. There's definitely room for improvement on the softness of the interior and small portion of calamari inside. I went with the spicy tonkotsu ramen. It had a spicy level of 5/10 in my opinion and the broth was pretty flavorful. The noodles were cooked very well (slightly undercooked) for that perfect chew. The egg was cooked very good as well but the chashu pork did have quite above average amount of fat. I tried the non spicy pork tonkotsu ramen as well and thought that broth was a little bland. The service of the staff is excellent! They are very attentive and friendly. I never had to ask to have my water refilled and they came to check up on us multiple times. I waited 5 minutes and still didn't receive my food so I asked again for a refund and they finally brought out my food. When it comes to Ramen, this place does it right! A perfectly flavored, not overly salty broth with all the fixings. They also have a nice extended menu with a variety of items. I enjoy the crispy rice as a nice complimentary to Ramen when dining in. A decent amount of indoor seats with about the same offering of patio seating tables available. First time coming here, I was very excited, but the service was super bad. We decided to sit outside. The waitress came and had us move not once, but three times, with an attitude. She did not apologize at all. Until the third time she made us move is when we decided to leave. She was rude and was not organized with seating the customers. The group of family who was waiting before us were telling her twice that there were six people, meaning she had to combine the tables, that is why she had us moving from table to table. From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly rude, no just to me, but even to another guest before we sat down. 1st red flag. When I tried to order, I was repeatedly talked over and spoken to with a rude, degrading, and dismissive tone. It honestly felt like they didn't want us there at all. I understand they were busy and stressed, but that doesn't excuse taking it out on customers. If you don't want people to eat here, just say that. Respectful service should be the bare minimum, regardless of the situation. We never even made it past the ordering stage. We recognized the disrespect and left, no food is worth being treated that way. Definitely not an experience I'd recommend. Save yourself time and money and go anywhere else for ramen. The Best Ramen that I've tried in Long Beach! I was really impressed by the incredible flavors of the ramen here. They slow cooked their ramen broth for 18 hours, so it develops a really rich flavor and creamy texture. Their pork belly is cooked for 5 hours and that what makes it super tender and so delicious. I love how they don't skimp on the toppings here, and every ramen they serve comes with a boiled egg, no need to pay extra compare to other ramen spots. I highly recommend their Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen, it really hits the spot each bite and the spiciness level was just right Also tried their Eel Bowl which didn't disappoint, it was so soft and love the sauce it came with. The designs remind me of the small hustle and bustle restaurants of Japan I see in shows/movies. I like the decor, especially the mural of a busy city scene in Japan. They came ready for the season as they were playing Christmas music. It's great to catch up with a friend or people-watch as people drive/walk by. FOOD/DRINKS: Spicy Miso Ramen (Recommend) A sizable portion filled me up. It was not too spicy but pretty good, I liked the portion of spinaches and green onions, and the noodles were comforting. The sprouts weren't too overwhelming and the seaweed provided a nice sea salt/briny flavor to it. The half egg was pleasant as it had a little umami and a nice sense of sweetness. The broth was fulfilling and the pork belly was filled with flavor. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Pretty good. I had a respectful and friendly server. TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Pleasant!
