    Pork Bao Bun (1)

Sesame Chicken 7/10 - not too seasoned - comes with a taste dip - Pairs great with ramen Pork Boa Bun 8/10 - good fluffy bun - Great quality and quantity of meat Yakitori Shrimp Skewer 6/10 - small seasoned shrimp with a lot of meat - Pretty good but not worth it Red Tiger Ramen 9/10 - Level 4 spicy is really hot! They use buldak sauce mixed with spices, be warned! - Great flavor - Skinny noodles so not your traditional ramen noodles - Great toppings The ramen here is pretty solid. I've been here two times and have not been disappointed. Their ramens are full of flavor and a variety of toppings. They are big bowls so the ramen can feed two. Their appetizers are pretty good as well, my favorite was the bun. You can definitely skip on the shrimp bc the price isn't worth it for one shrimp but still good. The customer service is great. Their workers are very attentive. I really love spicy food but this ramen was one of the most spiciest items I've ever eaten. The waiter noticed my suffering and offered me free broth to put my noodles in. Even with that the noodles were still spicy but very delicious. They also provide complimentary edamame when you sit down. This location is very laid back making it a great spot to catch up with friends or a casual date. The inside decoration is very cute as well.

Put it on your "to try" Ramen list.

I think the tricky thing about trying out so many Ramen places is that I just automatically rank them and if you don't fall high on my long opinion list, I can't give you that deng extra star. But honestly, please don't let that stop you from trying this place because it's solid and depending on your own personal preference you might like it more than me. Support Long Beach business, for sure. I had the chicken and it was good, fairly ok. The service is standard--friendly and helpful. The ambience is casual, pleasant. Parking can be tight, but at least they have it.

Great Tiger consistently has a deal on Groupon where you can get a dining coupon at a discounted price. Combine that with their lunch specials and large portions and you are in for a real bang-for-your-buck meal. They start you off with some edamame, which is great with the hot sauce they put on the table. We got a pork bao bun to share to start, which was pillowy and flavorful. Chicken fried rice, Karaage, Tonkotsu Ramen, and Black Tiger Ramen are all solid. You'll see many of the reviews talk about the fried rice, which has great texture, lots of smoky chicken, and a great charred dark soy flavor.

Came on a Wednesday around 11:30am they had just open. Place plenty of booth, tables, and bar seating. Inside themed. Service quick and friendly. I got the lunch combo one tonkotsu ramen and a side of rice with braised pork belly. Ramen was creamy noodles not too thick. The rice bowl was great. Both came out hot. They offer different spice levels. For price to portions and taste worth it.

I had a chance to try Great Tiger Ramen because I saw they were offering a Groupon that allowed us to try this place at almost half off. I got the Black Tiger Ramen with thick noodles and my partner got the Miso Tonkatsu ramen. Portions were hearty, and service was good and expedient, but the price point is a little high for ramen. I believe the Black Tiger ramen is at a $22ish price point, and I had to pay extra $3-4 to get the thick noodles. That's an expensive bowl of ramen! The only extra thing in there that I would say I don't see in other ramen bowls is the addition of the ground meat. Everything else was pretty standard, half of a soft boiled egg, bamboo, wood ear mushrooms, chashu, sprouts, and green onion. I feel like if a bowl like this (including an option for thick or thin noodles) were about the $18 price range, that seems a bit more reasonable. Otherwise, the soups were good, albeit super rich. (Note: if you take these home, you'll see a pretty significant hefty layer of fat form on the top of the broth after refrigeration). Due to the price point, I likely won't return, but not a bad place to visit if you're craving ramen.

The broth is just not rich enough. The Spicy Tonkatsu ramen just lacked the milky richness I've had at other places. The egg seemed old. Service was good.

quick summary Price- good meaning not too high with 15 dollars range portion - hungry college kid appetite soup/garnish/- excellent though slightly low on green onion soup - not brothy but normal however well done with black oil and garlic Sevice - impeccable and great/friendly Seat - very comfortable All of the above is 5/5 Now moving to technical parts, Presentation could be worked on, meats clumped together and creating a view of slightly greasy. 4 pts Noodle- 4 It was served yawa men (soft), ideally if its ramen either normal or slight hard katamen (8 -10 seconds) Would definitely come back, bring appetite, everything here is huge portion.

I love that Long Beach has, over the years, accumulated a considerably large amount of delicious ramen shops. Great Tiger is another great addition and, arguably, contender for top ramen in the city. I felt like some kind of noodle soup on a rainy day and hadn't tried Great Tiger yet, so came here on a bit of a whim and it did NOT disappoint!! The menu is huge, there's so many soups, styles, and side dishes so there's a bit of something for everyone. Came here on a Friday for lunch and there was no wait. Starting off with the inside and the ambience, it definitely has that ramen shop feel on the inside. It even had videos of Japanese cooking on the TVs playing. Super nostalgic and super authentic feeling with all the decor inside. There's a lot of really yummy appetizers to choose from; I went for a fried chicken bao bun which had freshly fried karaage on top and a lot of slaw on the bottom that created a nice contrast between the two textures. They also give you some edamame on the house which was super nice! Warm and just tender enough. We each got a different ramen, personally I got the red tiger which was recommended by who I think was the owner of the shop. Delicious, super umami, creamy, and just enough spice to make my nose run and lips numb up a little. The ground pork and other toppings on here really shined, and the noodles were just the perfect chewy texture even though they were thin. Would definitely recommend for you to try this or the regular great tiger if you don't like spice for your first time here. I also tried a bit of the soup of my parents' choices--both the chicken and tonkotsu, and they were just as good. You can also upgrade to thick noodles if preferred. The menu includes mazeman which I think can be hard to find--usually I have to drive to LA, Torrance or the OC for that, so will have to come back to try it for sure! The staff was super friendly and food/service was fast. DEFINITELY will have to be back to try all the other ramens here. Give it a try!

My wife and I had a nice lunch at Great Tiger. The dual lunch combo is a great deal for $33. One appetizer and two bowls of ramen. My pork miso ramen was very good. The noodles were cooked perfectly and broth tasted good. I've typically had tonkatsu ramen, so this was slightly different but quite tasty. Server was quick and friendly. I'd definitely come back!

I'm craving Ramen, but too lazy to drive to Torrance, or Gardena area. This place is on my list for a while now and I'm so glad I did. The food definitely exceeded my expectations. The Bao's are moist and flavorful. The Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen definitely the spot. The broth is full flavor. The service is attentive. Clean and inviting inside., Go out and show support to this neighborhood restaurant.

    Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen 10/10.

Small place, but has plenty of seating. We were greeted right away. Service was good. I ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen. This bowl was a 10/10. Perfect amount of spice. All the toppings were delicious and went well with the broth. The noodles were perfectly cooked. Definitely will be coming back to try the Pork broth ramen. I also ordered the sesame chicken, 10/10. The dipping sauce was great.

I believe I found this spot on Instagram Reels, and no regrets! I got their Black Tiger Ramen and swapped the chashu and ground pork for tofu (the broth is still pork). It was SO good! The spice got me for a second, lol. I also ordered two of their fried chicken bao buns, which were super delicious. The meal came with complementary edamame. The atmosphere was really cute, and I thought the layout was nice. There's a small bar section with Japanese art and posters where you can see the chef, which adds a sense of transparency. My two female servers were very kind, and my main server kept checking in and offering raspberry tea refills. I went alone, and when I used the restroom, I left my canteen on the table. Unfortunately, the busser thought I had left and threw away my ramen, which I had only eaten about 15% bc I prioritized the bao buns . I was sort of embarrassed & confused since there was still a lot left. Luckily, they were all super helpful and gave me the option to get a new ramen to-go. Overall, I'd definitely come again - it was worth the hour & a half trip!

Soul Reviving Ramen The red tiger ramen was the best ramen I've had in a long time. level 2 spicy had a comfortable kick, I was able to add toppings I liked from the menu. The hot sauce on the table was fire, I would buy that by the bottle. After a rough week, this ramen was the comfort food I needed. The black tiger ramen was just as tasty! We added extra eggs and they were perfect. (Service was fantastic!) We will be back! Thank you!

I came in on Saturday with my daughter to enjoy an early dinner. It was around 5pm, and not too many people were dining at that time. I dined in as part of the Yelp Elite Experience (YEE). They greeted me kindly, took my name down and sat us down at one of the small tables against the wall. The YEE include a ramen of my choice and a two-piece appetizer of crispy rice and spicy tuna. I opted for the tonkatsu ramen and ordered an additional one for my daughter even though I knew she wouldn't even finish half. Leftovers for me to enjoy later I also ordered a cranberry juice for her and the rooibos iced tea for myself. I very much enjoyed the iced tea and appreciated the menu recommending it as a perfect companion to ramen. Although it's unsweetened, it had a refreshingly natural sweetness to it. To my ramen, I added black garlic oil and chili paste. The broth was very delicious, flavorful and rich. I'm not a huge pork eater anymore, which I need to remind myself of. I did really enjoy my ramen, however, next time I'll have to try another protein, extra egg instead of pork or give the vegan ramen a try, for my own good. Thank you to our server Mel for being very sweet and patient with my daughter and me. She also explained the service fee very well. Heads up that there is an automatic 17.68% service charge added for dine-in orders. I believe I did see it mentioned on the menu, but the man who sat us (possibly a shift manager?) also pointed it out somewhat quickly. However, there was some confusion upon paying because I had explained to Melanie that I wanted to tip on what the total would have been without the promotion; that's just how I've been taught to tip regardless of there being a free or discounted item on the check. So I was adding it up on my phone to see what "I owed" for service. I confirmed that everything looked good on the receipt and she ran my card without the option of me being able to add an additional tip. Something about how most people won't pay more on top of the included service charge, which I get completely, but I felt bad because I got free items and wanted to leave a more comprehensive tip. I'll have to go back soon and try that vegan ramen and more of that tea

But I had heard so many great things about HiroNori that I wanted to try it anyways. My brother especially kept hyping them up, and he LOVES ramen. And I'm glad I decided to try them out! While HiroNori is a SoCal chain, it still feels like a mom and pop restaurant. The crispy rice with tuna was EXCELLENT! Everything you want from crispy rice and spicy tuna. The tonkatsu was delicious! Great depth of flavor. They bring you garlic and spicy paste on the side. I had to add A LOT of spicy paste to get it up to the level I wanted, but while at other restaurants I've lost the broth flavor when adding too much spice, the spicy paste just enhanced the tonkatsu broth. And the pork in the tonkatsu - truly next level. This is probably the best pork I've ever had in a ramen dish. The noodles were also fantastic with the perfect amount of bite. I loved my jammy egg as well. The restaurant itself is smaller, with fun lighting. There is a parking lot which is great. They do not have tipping, instead they have a service charge of a little over 17%. Definitely worth it!

It's gotten a lot more popular since then, with some great additions to the menu (a lot of vegan options) and social advertising. So when I was walking back home from a delicious (but not filling) lunch, decided to stop in to 'top off'. It had a great dish along with very good banchans (but also a bland rendition of a classic Korean dish). It was busy on a mid Saturday afternoon, with their dedicated backyard parking lot pretty full. They now have outdoor seating where they've set-up korean 'grill-your-own' bbq tables. There's a clear 'Please wait to be seated' sign at the front, but no dedicated hostess station, so one has to wait till a server happens to come by. I was told I could choose a booth. There are no printed menus, instead needing to depend on their website. I had a craving for kimchi jjigae ($18.99), and noticed mackerel ($9.99) so got that as well. The jjigae comes with banchan, and those came early. They really upped their game here, with 7 different ones that looked (and tasted) great. Today, they had a daikon and carrot pickled salad (solid, would go great with fried chicken), stir-fried mushrooms (would go great in a bibimbap), marinated fish cakes (a personal favorite, and their version was solid), soybean sprout side dish (have grown to appreciate this as I've gotten older), napa kimchi (pretty strongly sour), cucumber kimchi (strongly favored by still maintaining crunchiness), and a decent macaroni salad (think I tasted a bit of potato in there, Hawaiian-style). This is a super good deal, especially for lunch. The banchan along with the steamed rice (well prepared) comes in bronze looking dishes, indicating a higher level of refinement. I love pike mackerel, having it quite a lot when growing up, and always thought that it (kkongchi) was what mackerel was in Korea. In reality, a more popular mackerel is the Korean mackerel (godeungeo), and this is what is served as an appetizer here: the preparation was a revelation. Two large, generous, boneless filets of mackerel is lightly breaded and fried. It sits on top of a bed of greens with various accompaniments. A generous amount of chili threads make it visually appealing as well. This is an absolute steal at the price, a fine dining dish at this restaurant. And it was great not having to worry about thin bones ruining each bite. I really loved this dish. The dish I thought would be good...was not. Just looking at it, one can tell something's up: the broth was bland without umami, which is the worst sin for this dish. There is a choice of spam (chosen) or pork belly, and its definitely added at the end of cooking since it added nothing to the broth flavor. Maybe the broth is initially prepared vegan-style (no pork or fish seasoning initially)? But if so, why no mushrooms? Anyway...I ate all the chunks in the stew to not waste, but left the rest of the broth alone. Service was attentive to bring the dishes, but then completely non-responsive afterwards. I finally was able to grab another server, who was able to check me out tableside using Toast tablets.
