Just be aware that the rice roll does have pork floss, so it's not vegetarian. If you've never had breakfast like this before, you need to top your tofu. Do not eat it plain. You will be disappointed if you do. Since the menu is small, between two people, you can literally try everything and you should. Solid, but not for me! I've never had Taiwanese breakfast before, so I decided to give it a try. My friend and I both got the Combo 1. I also got an Egg Custard. I can appreciate that the menu is simple and straightforward. The youtiao was yummy and I enjoyed dipping it in my soy milk. The soy milk was legit and plain, which allowed me to customize it and make it sweeter. The rice roll was my least favorite, but it should be noted that I don't like pork floss, but I really wanted to try the rice roll haha. It came warm, which was nice. My favorite thing that I got would have to be the egg custard. It was savory and delicious, and satisfied the craving I had for it. Service was quick and very nice! No complaints there. 6 months from my first visit, and I'm still coming back every weekend or so. My favorite is still the savory rice roll with soy milk. I am a little sad that the soy marinated egg is no longer on the menu. They did add an egg custard to the menu. It is super tasty, but the texture is too similar to the soft tofu, and the soft tofu does the job for me. Don't be shy about hitting up the condiments/garnish station. It just elevates everything. Prices have not really gone up too much. The people working are friendly and hard-working. And the place is kept clean. I was able to try Joy Lounge's newest item, the wonton soup. The filling was flavorful: chewy and as I chewed it, savoring and appreciating the food in my mouth, I could taste the spices within the ground pork. It was very good. The outer skin, or the wonton wrapper, was chewy too. The broth was semi hot, but not where you have to blow to eat it. The broth also has a little bit of oil, just to add a little flavor, which went well with the freshly chopped scallions. It would be appropriate to slurp the broth with your wonton. I believe they make the soup on demand: when people order it instead of keeping a big pot of it in queue. That's why the soup tasted very fresh. Bottom line: I would get it again. Brought a friend to try a more traditional Asian breakfast. The service is excellent. Uncle is so nice and explained the ordering system to us so we could upgrade the breakfast meal choice and add more items we tried the new wonton soup as well. Breakfast brought on a tray. They combined the similar items. So the dou hua and soy milk came in two bowls. I poured the soy milk into cups for us since we preferred it that way to accompany our food. We added the tofu topping they have on the condiment counter to the dou hua as we both liked the savory flavors better than sweet. I had my egg custard with some of the toppings. The rose shaobing was her preference. I liked both the rose shaobing and scallion shaobing. But my fav is always the youtiao. Brings back so many memories. Joy Lounge is only open on weekends from 8-12 so I have been wanting to visit but couldn't make it. I finally did and it's operated by such a nice family. The menu is small but there are different sets to fit everyone's interests. I ordered set #1 and #3 for the pepper pork bun and the rice roll. The yau char kwai was so delicious. The soy milk comes as plain as possible so you can adjust it to your likeness. I just add the ginger syrup to it and it's tasty. We also got the steamed egg which was very tasty. It would've tasted great with rice. So many dimsum places have removed the soft tofu from their menu. I was ecstatic to find out Joy Lounge has it. You can make it sweet or savory. I only eat it sweet and it was definitely worth the $5-6 for it. I have missed this meal. Lots of Asian families come by on the weekends so you know it's the real deal. Visited Joy Lounge on Arapahoe in Centennial for traditional Chinese breakfast. The menu was quite simple: soy milk, sweet shaobing (sesame flatbread), scallion shaobing, pepper cakes, youtiao (fried dough stick), pepper bun, rice roll, soft tofu, and their new egg custard. They used only fresh and natural ingredients and made fresh in store the traditional way without adding any additive. Ordered soy milk, youtiao, pepper bun, and soft tofu, rice roll and the egg custard. The youtiao here was crispy, not greasy, and had a satisfying texture, probably the best in town. The soy milk was served plain, customers could add sugar or salt to taste. The plain soy milk was rich, with a delicate soybean flavor. The soft tofu was also served plain, allowing custmers to add their own seasonings. The soft tofu here was also very good, smooth, tender, and fragrant. Pairing with pickled mustard greens, scallions, seaweed, and soy sauce, it was more flavorful and tasted better than the one with syrup. Their purple rice roll was soft, sticky, and chewy, steamed to perfection, not soggy or dry. Pairing with crispy and savory fillings, it offered a rich texture. The pepper bun's meat filling was tender and juicy, not greasy nor dry. The black pepper and scallion complemented the filling's savory flavor well. The egg custard has a texture reminiscent of chawanmushi. Not sure what broth they used, but it's delicious and soothing. Joy Lounge opens Saturdays and Sundays from 8 to noon. Great weekend breakfast place for youtiao and do-jiang. Joy Lounge borrows the Korean restaurant's establishment for the weekend mornings. If you want traditional do-jiang, you-tiao, do-hua, shaobing, fan tuan (bun wan), etc, this is the place to eat at for traditional Chinese breakfast. This is similar to traditional Taiwanese breakfasts. The owner chefs are very friendly and welcoming. And they were Asian :o it's a nice little place to eat something light and catch up with some friends. I got one of the combos: Soy milk, youtiao, and pepper bun shaobing. The youtiao/Chinese donut was nice and fluffy with a crispy outside. (It's essentially fried dough, not sweet) You are supposed to dip it in to the soy milk before eating it. I'm used to the soy milk being a little sweet so I added my own sugar packet to the soy milk. The pepper bun was savory and had a pleasant flakey exterior. Housed in the same space as Chillgolgi is Joy Lounge! They serve traditional Asian breakfast items, many of which I grew up. All the flavors are nostalgic and don't know how I didn't see this place any earlier. The sticky rice roll has got to be my favorite and highly recommended! It came out warm, flavorful and just a delight. Some people may find the texture of the crueler (Chinese donut) inside to be a little chewy but it certainly adds to the flavor profile. I found it to be on the pricy side but hey I'll take it until there are other places that decide to make it. Service is fast casual and you order at the counter.
