My wife was craving sushi and we decided to give Joy a try since it was less than a mile from where we live. The sushi here is good. Everything was fresh and the service was quick. The all you can eat however was 26.95 and not 20 like we initially thought. We ended up just doing happy hour sushi and our bill was still around $50. Not sure why people complain that they charge you extra if you don't eat what you ordered...it's Sushi, not Country Buffet. First of all, as soon as we walked in, we noticed that most of the tables were not cleaned. When we walked into the other section of the restaurant, most of the tables there were not cleaned either. When I asked one of the waitresses when the tables around us would be cleaned, she told me that only two waitresses were working the floor (I actually saw three), and it was after lunch time. What annoyed me even more about the dirty tables and the waitresses NOT cleaning up the tables as they were walking around was that one of the waitresses actually took a double look at one of the dirty tables, and walked over to pick up the tip, but NOT the dirty plates that were on the table. She walked away soon after she placed the tip in her pocket, and the plates remained there--as well as the other plates in the surrounding tables--until midway through our meal. (Should I commend this restaurant, for being the only restaurant that I have been to within the last decade that does not exploit immigrant workers, to have enough people on the floor to pick up the dirty dishes once a party leaves the table? The sushi is expensive enough to afford even a legal worker to keep the place presentable.) Why did I not follow my instincts at that moment? Or, respect the obvious: if they are OK with leaving the dining area of the restaurant dirty, what's to say what happens inside of the kitchen? But I did not follow my instincts, unfortunately because of time constraints, and so we stayed to eat their overpriced sashimi. We have paid less for better sashimi at sushi bars that have been highly rated in 5280. And now, our son is recovering from a minor stomach virus, and we can't help but think about how dirty the restaurant was and how we should have just left once we saw all of the dirty tables at the entrance of the restaurant. read more

This place gets 3 stars because my friends love it. If you want good veggie sushi, definitely avoid this place! They have a very limited selection of veggie sushi, especially at lunch and what they do have is not very flavorful or special (think tiny bits of veggies inside a ton of rice). I'm not usually in this part of Colorado, so I don't know any other sushi all you can eat spots other than Mt. Fuji, which is a big favorite of mine. Joy sushi is a small place, with a quiet atmosphere that reminds me of a quizno's during its off season. THere's no music, nothing really enjoyable about the place, kind of just a "you should eat and leave asap, don't mingle or chat" kind of place. I wouldn't recommend it for a date night or girls night out. SUSHI wasn't that fresh, which is the biggest reason for my low rating. A sushi place should have fresh sushi right? Or we could just go to Costco and pick up fresher pieces for less expensive. They have a good variety of fish, which is a plus. The rice isn't packed to death so it doesn't feel like you're eating a half bowlful of rice with every piece. The rolls really all tasted the same. It either has the mayo sauce with avocado, or it has eel. That's about it. PRICE before we went in I thought hey, not bad! But after the sushi freshness and the atmosphere of the place, I think it's asking for a lot. IMPORTANT: They have a really confusing website. They don't mention which hours they are open. ALSO their "specialty" is anything but special..The server said we could get 5 pieces of sashimi per customer. When I asked what kinds of fish we can choose from, she said any kind. Thinking this was a mistake, we asked another server who came by. He said the same thing. So we ordered 10 pieces of 4 different fish. The owner (I'm guessing) came to our table and had a long bout of how we can't order this. Instead of saying sorry for the confusion and sorry for giving the servers wrong instructions, they said no and said that is extra charge. From the looks of the servers, I'm thinking that they changed this rule up right on the spot. There were only 2 sushi chefs, and they were the owners, because they were giving instructions to servers. Every time we ordered something, they would talk with the server, and especially with the sashimi special, the server looked super confused. The other guy server was really clumsy, and after the owner told him off quietly, he came to our table in a rush and knocked over a chair...thank goodness it didn't land on someone. This is my favorite place for all you can eat sushi. I like it better than sushi katsu. It is a bit more expensive and the service a little slower, but there is nothing like them bringing out 50 made to order shrimp tempura. You can't get that at katsu. While the location is good and the atmosphere is pleasantly casual, the food didn't wow me. The miso soup and the egg drop soup were watered down, and the salad was watery (unless the dressing was watered down and gave it that effect). I was just at Joy Sushi for dinner with my young daughters, and I have to say that I thought this was a great local spot. I didn't do the all-you-can-eat sushi, but instead, picked a couple of rolls that looked good. I've done the all-you-can-eat thing at a few places, and I have to say that I'm not really a fan - the stuff that qualifies isn't usually the best they have, and you end up eating too much, anyway. The price of 2 of the most expensive rolls comes out to less than the all-you-can-eat price, so I've found that's often the way to go, especially for dinner. I found the service to be good, as well. I love this sushi place. I can't believe it isn't more crowded. Yet it is more pricey than other non-sushi restaurants, but the all-you-can-eat sushi for $17 (lunch) or $27(dinner) is by far cheaper than any other sushi place around if you are a serious sushi eater. This deal includes appetizers, noodles, salad, etc. I've eaten at a lot of sushi places all over the US and Japan. The fish is really fresh at this restaurant. The owner used to be a sushi chef at on of the other more popular sushi restaurants in the Denver area. This isn't some cheapo all-you-can-eat crap sushi. Joy sushi kind of ruined me for other sushi restaurants. Their all you can eat lunch sushi offer is the best value around. When I first went I thought the menu sushi items would be very limited and of lesser quality than I was used to. Turns out the sushi offerings are pretty extensive and good quality including rolls and salads and appetizers (all part of the all you can eat menu). I go here quite often with my wife, brother and friends. I went to a sushi restaurant in Silverthorne last night and paid $30.00+ for a roll and 2 pieces of mackeral.
