    Drink and chips and salsa
    Michelle C.

My friend and I went on a Sunday afternoon. It was not busy at all. It was happy hour. I had the Tropic Chill Margarita. It was declicious. It was smoky and spicy but not overly spicy. The chips and salsa were good. I also had the Joy rice with tomatillo salsa. It was good but a bit underseasoned. I had three street tacos (pork adobada, the standard, and fish) and they were the worst part of the meal. They all lacked seasoning and were very small even with street taco size expectations. My friend said hers were very blah. The ambiance is fun and staff is nice. I'd come for drinks and maybe appetizers again but not for an actual meal.

We had a very nice Happy Hour experience at Joyride. It wasn't my first time, but it had been a while. Still a very nice atmosphere and an everyday happy hour till 6 p.m., featuring $6 margaritas and discounted small bites. My wife loves margaritas and selected the Watermelon Margarita; she really liked it. For small plates, we tried the tostadas, ceviche, and select tacos. Happy hour appetizers range from $5 to $8. I really liked the ceviche; my wife's favorite was the Baja fish tacos. Nice to see their food is just as good as remembered. If you're looking for a good Happy Hour with good food and drinks, you should come here.

Quick happy hour catchup with old friends

Met up with some friends after work for a quick catch-up/happy hour. I've been to Joyride in Gilbert before and enjoyed it so I recommend this location. Service was good and the apps were tasty. I didn't take a bunch of pics because I was busy chatting (sorry!). It's a great place, on a scale of 1 - 10, I would recommend it as an option!

Arrived at Joyride Taco House on a Taco Tuesday around 6pm and the parking lot was jam packed without a spot to park -- I had to park in the neighborhood which was a little annoying but overall it was worth it. My friend and I started with a bottle of Sav blanc and the cactus and crinkle fries. I wasn't expecting the cactus to be so small but it was really flavorful and had a bit of a kick. The crinkle fries were average -- not crispy enough for my taste, a 4/10 on the fry scale. Also the chips from chips and salsa were kind of stale. Salsa was good. But we didn't come for the fries and immediately ordered tacos -- I got the bean sprout and the crispy fish tacos and my friend got the shrimp and the chicken tacos. I really enjoyed the sprout taco! It was surprisingly flavorful. The crispy fish taco was also very good and my friend enjoyed her tacos as well. We added a "vodka" - rita -- since both of us don't really care for tequila but love a good marg -- this was super good and the bartender was very accommodating to us ordering this off the menu. The music was bumping and the outdoor patio was in full swing -- I really enjoyed my Taco Tuesday at Joyride!

I love this place. We stopped in for a girls night taco Tuesday. Service was great. I love the indoor/outdoor vibe of the place and the tacos are amazing.

We've eaten our way through basically every restaurant in the area, yet somehow Joyride stayed unchecked on the list, and after this visit, I'm starting to think that was my intuition protecting me. The patio facing Central is great for people-watching, but the pack of unsupervised children tearing around like they were training for American Ninja Warrior had us moving inside immediately. There are heaters which weren't on, and it was pretty chilly in the shade. We were seated fast, waters arrived, and Carson came by shortly after we relocated. No complaints about her, she was a bright spot in this whole adventure. We annihilated the chips and salsa the second they hit the table. Chips were a little thicker than ideal but fine. The salsa tasted like it forgot to show up to its own party. It was missing acid, missing cilantro, missing personality. A sprinkle of salt and pepper helped, but I didn't come here to DIY the seasoning. We grabbed the Three Salsitas: guac, bean dip, and green chile queso. The guac was basically mashed avocado with a dream. Tasty? Yes. Guacamole? Let's not push it. Adding a squeeze of lime from our beer magically transformed it into something I'd actually choose to eat. The bean dip was savory, creamy, and honestly the star. Queso was nice and melty, just a little boring. If you mix the bean dip and queso together, though? That's the real pro move. Then came the Bandit taco platter. In theory: slow-roasted chicken, carne asada, carnitas, tortillas, rice, black beans, avocado, pico gringo, cabbage, cotija. In reality: a masterclass in being aggressively basic. The chicken was so dry it should come with a hydration warning, the rice was literally plain white rice (bold choice), and while the carne was decent, there was barely any of it. Now, the corn tortillas, and I don't say this lightly: they were absolutely awful. Dry, stiff, flavorless, like someone described a tortilla to an alien and the alien tried its best. We ordered extra flour tortillas out of pure survival instinct, and thank goodness we did. Also, still no onions, no cilantro, no limes, it's like they're running a secret anti-flavor initiative. Overall, a pretty underwhelming experience. The food was bland, the seasoning was missing in action, and while Carson was sweet and definitely improved the vibe, it wasn't enough to save the meal. With so many better options nearby, we won't be rushing back.

We initially sat on the patio, but due to a combination of chilly weather and unruly and uncontrolled children, we moved inside Carson was our server The chips and salsa was nice, the chips being the overly crisp kind that I like but unfortunately a bit crunchy for my wife, the salsa was decent but didn't bring much heat, or flavor beyond plain tomato; adding salt and pepper helped a lot We just shared a pitcher of Negra Modelo We ordered the three salsitas from the happy hour menu; guacamole, house bean dip, green chile queso The queso is cheesy but not really any heat, the guac is pretty good but, again, no heat, the bean dip similarly lacked heat but was very flavorful Mixing the bean dip with the queso is the way to go We split the Bandit Taco Platter; deconstructed tacos with slow roasted chicken, carne asada, carnitas, tortilla, rice, black beans, avocado, pico gringo, cabbage, cotija The carne was slightly juicy, but pretty flavorless, the chicken not dry to the point of being inedible, but it was close, the beans tasted canned and the cotija didn't help, the green sauce on the rice was the one bright spot on this plate, but there was only a tiny scoop The platter comes with either corn or flour tortillas; we opted for an order of flour tortillas along with it, which was fortunate, as the corn tortillas could be at best described as week old store-bought mission tortillas Generally speaking, the entire experience lacked lime, salt and pepper, and cilantro I had been looking forward to trying joyride for several months, I should have kept waiting; this was definitely one of the most underwhelming meals I've ever ordered Carson was attentive and responsive, no complaints in that department But I could not in good conscience. Recommend this to anyone, nor could I bring myself to return 2/5 because I have to start with 1 but Carson made it a 2 because she was good

Cucumber serrano margarita - very good

Yelp invited us here awhile back and I really enjoyed the experience so decided to come back with a girlfriend last night evening for Taco Tuesday. Their happy hour ends at 6pm, so keep that in mind. I came here after happy hour and the place was packed, most of the bar seats were taken and the dining room was close to full. I was able to snag a table for 2, which was a nice half semicircle booth, spacious and very comfortable. I started off with a cucumber serrano margarita and this was excellent, nice and refreshing on a hot summer day and with a slight kick. I love their chips and salsa as their salsa is so legit, so tasty and has a good kick. I ordered a baja fish taco and a sprouts taco and they were both just delicious! Yum! Definitely a great spot to come eat, drink, hang out and people watch! I will definitely be back! It's a little too hot now during the days to sit outside but when it cools down a little, I'm definitely going to opt to sit outside. This is a hip, fun taco joint and the food, drinks and service are excellent!

I had a really great experience here for dinner! It was Tuesday, and they had $1.50 off all tacos for taco Tuesday! We also arrived during happy hour and they have drink specials for that time too. There is indoor and outdoor seating and the vibe here fun and colorful! Everyone who helped us was really nice and I enjoyed the chips and salsa. I ordered the Joyride Margarita which was their classic margarita and I really liked it! I also ordered three tacos: the Chipotle Shrimp, Baja Fish and the Taco of the day. All three were delicious, fresh and flavorful! With it being Tuesday and happy hour, I feel like I got a really good real. I definitely recommend stopping by during this time and can't wait to come back soon.

Went to get pizza and ended up here instead. Very good and great service. The kids menu is perfect and my 4 year old loved the chips and salsa... not too spicy! Definitely will be back

Love the vibe here! Been to the Joyride in Gilbert and wanted to check this location out, it's beautiful. Server was friendly and happy hour prices and offerings are awesome. I believe I ordered the carne asada tacos, with a side of fries. Chips were nice and thick, meat was super flavorful but I think I preferred the nachos from my first visit more!

I was given orders by my wife that I had to come here as my first stop in Phoenix! She had been here on a girls trip and they loved it. Well, between her and yelp they were not wrong! I came in and sat at the bar. Service was phenomenal. They had a great tequila selection. I got to try one that I've been looking for for months. I hit the happy hour special. I got some fried cactus and crinkle cut fries. They were very good. I got a couple of tacos the shrimp and the crispy fish. Both were amazing. Everything came out very quickly and piping hot. I will definitely come here again when I'm in Phoenix. Great food and great service.

1.17.26 A Tale of Two Beet Salads!…read more The first one we ordered tasted kind of "meaty" like maybe it was on the same grill as the burgers? The second one tasted "clean" or like it was supposed to taste. The Burger & Fish Tacos were full of flavor & freshness! I loved their fries b/c crispy on outside & soft on the outside. Missing their Guac & Chips Starter that was on former menu tho. We gotta commend the F&B Manager here! He overheard us talking to the waiter about the differences in the Charred Beet Salads & told us why: one was on the grill too long & he only knew that b/c he was in the kitchen watching them make it. He appreciated us sharing about the nuanced difference in how salads tasted & comped one. Wow - this is really going above & beyond: caring enough to have a convo w/ diners, acknowledging their palates detecting the difference AND making it right, b/c as he said "both should taste the same, like the second one." A commitment to excellence and consistency is a rarity. Overall, Lylo Swim Club outdoor bar/restaurant is a little oasis tucked away amongst so much greenery and beauty! Yes they have the pool nearby, but we didn't take a dip. Something to look forward to! P.S. Can the tile pattern on the bar be any more gorgeous?!

Lylo has some awesome vibes, but it's an overpriced pool bar. If you want the tropical, pool-side…read morevibes, those prices might be worth it to you. Just keep an eye on how much you're spending! There's a lot of spots for improvement here, but I'd also say that Lylo is one of the few businesses I've ever seen do such a visually-great escape out from their pool area. If you're here for the escape and temper your expectations for food or drink, I think you'd have a good time. There are a TON of mosquitos here, so prepare accordingly. The bar and hotel lobby didn't have bug spray nor any for sale. The nearby liquor store does have some for sale at less than a block's walk. (The pool is hot mid Phoenix summer. The pool itself felt closer to a hot tub than a refreshingly cold pool. I'm told this is normal for pools in Arizona in the summer.) PROS: -All of the drinks are really pretty, visually, and with the pool, you have a great mecca for social media photos. -Despite the ridiculous 110+ Phoenix heat, we were relatively comfortable in the shaded restaurant area with the misters. We could still see the pool, but we weren't baking alive. -Pool bathrooms were clean enough. There were lots of puddles and toilet paper on the ground, but nothing was horrific or moldy like some pool bathrooms can be. Spacious stalls for changing too - though I didn't see any shower or changing areas. -The pool area itself is pretty! It makes for gorgeous Instagram photos, and Lylo knows that. There are lots of little spots (a camp sign, a chair off on its own, all the loungers, etc.) that make cute photo backdrops in addition to the pool itself. -There is a collection of inflatable pool toys in the corner that seem to be open for guest use. CONS: -Water bottles are not allowed at all - not even sealed disposable plastic ones from the grocery store. They'll store them for you, and you can fetch your own water with disposable plastic cups while you're here. -The misters in the pool area were broken. With the heat, we chose not to actually use the pool, and instead stayed in the restaurant, shaded area with misters. -All of the on-menu drinks are pretty sweet and not super boozy (at their price points). It's easy to go through quite a few at their higher price. Make sure that you're spending intentionally. -We weren't in love with the food we ordered. It felt like frozen food reheated and served to us. To be fair, that's about to be expected from a pool bar, but it was still something to note at the prices and with nearby restaurants walkable. -Service is there. I wouldn't say it was friendly or welcoming, but the servers checked in often in-between talking to people in swimsuits or joking with friends. I rarely waited for anything, but I didn't feel like a valued guest. -The fabric of the chaise loungers and lounge beds are stained. I saw some employees hauling off some of them and shoving them into the back of a fabric cleaning van, so I'd assume they rotate in and out and have to deal with a ton of spilled drinks.

The soothing decor and soft lighting created a cozy atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a delightful meal, especially on an unseasonably hot day. We began our culinary journey with the Larb Mushroom appetizer, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The dish featured succulent oyster mushrooms tossed with roasted rice powder, fresh mint, shallots, cilantro, and a vibrant chili-lime dressing. Each bite was a refreshing explosion of flavors, combining the earthy richness of the mushrooms with the zesty brightness of the dressing. It was light, refreshing, and a perfect precursor to the meal ahead. For her main dish, my wife chose the Pad Z U, an outstanding selection that showcased sautéed broad noodles, crispy fried tofu, and Chinese broccoli, all enveloped in a delectable sweet soy sauce. The noodles were soft and chewy, creating a delightful texture that harmonized beautifully with the vegetable medley and tofu. The heat in the dish was skillfully balanced, providing just enough kick without overwhelming the palate. My wife couldn't stop raving about it! I opted for the Kua Kling, and it truly was a star of the evening. This spicy stir-fried minced chicken was enriched with fragrant curry paste, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves, resulting in an aromatic dish that was accompanied by tender long string beans and the unique Sadtor beans. The flavor profile was complex and enticing, with each ingredient complementing the others in a delightful dance of spice and freshness. It was a dish that not only warmed my belly but also left me craving more. What elevated our experience even further was the attentiveness of our server. With a genuine smile and a welcoming demeanor, they offered excellent recommendations and ensured that we were well taken care of throughout our meal. Their knowledge of the menu added to our enjoyment, making the dining experience even more memorable. Overall, LeDu Thai is a culinary treasure that I cannot recommend highly enough. Each dish was exceptional, bursting with flavor and crafted with care. The combination of delicious food, attentive service, and a cozy ambiance makes it a must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable Thai dining experience. The real bad impression is that for the $$ it costs, the portion is little, in fact, I don't recall seeing such a small portion in any restaurant in my last 30 years. I honestly will not go back, for the same price that we have spent, I think we can get a lot more food if we go to a different restaurant.

GOOD! inspired by taco bell's baja blast hahahah). they TREATED us to all three of their current desserts on the menu. it was the most pleasant surprise i could've imagined. my favorite was the flourless chocolate cake! it was like a thick, rich brownie, had passion fruit cream to "lighten it up" and a caramel-like taffy on the bottom my brother and sister-in-law both said their favorite was the gulab jamun (which is basically like little fried dough balls/donuts, influenced by indian flavors and spices). the mille-feuille was also fantastic - the pastry was light and airy, cream wasn't too sweet and also very light, shaved cheese on top made it have a savory bite, and the jam alongside it was strawberry rhubarb. service is always amazing, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable; it seems like everybody working here truly enjoys it. quite literally already have a reservation booked at valentine and will be coming back here beforehand. update: came back for more drinks (fernet & coke, spaghett western, negroni) and their lamb flauta. all AMAZING! and amazing order to whet the appetite before dinner at valentine.

I absolutely love the atmosphere and it's not high energy. Very relaxed which is great for me. The food was good. We got the basil pesto ice cream and omg. Divine. The pesto ice cream honestly was lije pistachio ice cream. It worked amazing and so refreshing. Underneath was a lemon ice thing that was exquisite and very palate refreshing. It tasted tart and like lemons. Not crunch. Soft ice. One thing though. The drinks weren't bad price. Average for tha area. The only thing is the bar tender made all of our drinks very strong. Most people think that's a good thing but honestly all I could taste was booze. I ordered a whisky sprite (7and7 spoof) and wow I could only taste whiskey. Every sip was booze booze and more booze. For the cocktails I wasn't able to taste any of the ingredients since it was so strong on the alcohol. Definitely moneys worth I guess lol. The bartender though was very nice and knowledgeable about all the drinks. Could explain all the drinks and the different types of alcohol. Not bad. Definitely would come back. Super cute for date night or a small gathering night out since space wise isn't huge.

Heck yeah. For brunch, we were treated to a complementary squash sticky bun. This was delish, highly recommend. I also ordered the masa almond tea cake. The flavor of this was yummy but it wasn't evenly distributed. The cake was kind of dry and flavorless on the outside and moist on the inside. For my meal, I got the Tres leches French toast. Do not get this unless you're like me and have a major sweet tooth. I think this was one of the sweetest meals I've ever had, it was basically slathered in syrup. V yummy. It was fun to explore the vintage store after. It was a great way to walk off a big brunch and discover some cool pieces. If you're looking for a brunch spot in Phoenix, highly recommend Valentine. FYI: no parking lot, street parking only.

I always planned to go for dinner, I didn't even know they were open for brunch. Well now I do, and it was SO delicious that I would like to come back to try other menu items. The ambiance of Valentine is like being in Palm Springs at a resort enjoying brunch. It's very mid-century modern and I love the decor. They have a large outdoor patio that is probably nice when it's not summer. We sat inside and noticed there is a vintage market (Modern Manor) attached to the restaurant, we went there after eating. (A cute place with some pricey items. I'll post a separate review of the store.) Our server Pete, he was exceptional. He knows my cousins' husband and he gave us the grand tour of the menu. His recommendations were spot on, and we wanted for nothing. We started with handcrafted drinks, I really enjoyed the coffee menu options, with unique flavors. I had the iced Cajeta latte with oat milk. Cajeta is like a Mexican caramel and was very good with espresso. I also tried the chiltepin shakerato (a slight spicy mocha) and golden milk (turmeric latte). I really liked all of them. Then we had a fantastic sampler plate of pastries-- piñon croissant, morning swirl, and churro croissant roll. Baked fresh, these are really great! My fave was the morning swirl. I would come back to try the other pastries alone. Next we had the chula seafood crudo with a delicious agua chile sauce. Then onto our entrees-- avocado toast, breakfast sando, tortilla espanola, tres leche French toast, tater tots, and for good measure the Sonoran dog. I was able to try all the dishes and everything was awesome. The toast used is a thick Texas toast type of bread that is called squash brioche-- so good! Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, you can tell that Valentine cares about using fresh, local, high quality/ interesting ingredients with unique flavors. I mean they add trout roe to their Sonoran dog and serve with house made allium-nori chips... how fun is that?! And mesquite-pecan butter with sorghum-sage syrup for the French toast is so rich and sweet. That's a dessert type brunch dish for sure. We had so much food, we couldn't finish so we boxed up leftovers which heated up and tasted great the next day. I fully intend to come back for the dinner menu and have cocktails at Bar 1912. I look forward to it.

The only dish that didn't quite meet our expectations was the corn bread, but when we told the server he was so kind about it and we were able to exchange it for a different side. The overall service was great! I made a reservation for 4 on a Saturday afternoon and got seated right away. Kyle checked up on us frequently and our food came out pretty quick too! Also, at the bar area there was a TV that played the world cup game, and afterwards baseball. I think this can be a nice lowkey place to watch a game since the vibe was chill. Keep in mind the everyday happy hour is only for the cocktails: the cocktails are $6 and we all enjoyed ours. I got a No. 22 and really liked it. If you don't drink, you can also make the cocktails to mocktails too. Before coming here, I had once been to the next door ice cream place Churn before, but this was my first time coming to Windsor, and I didn't even realize they served the Churn ice cream too for desert! My friends and I shared a triple scoop of double chocolate, sweet cream, and cookies & mint in a cup. It was a good amount of ice cream for the 4 of us, not too sweet either. This place is also advertised as dog-friendly online, which I assume was meant for the outdoor patio seating (the patio looked cute, it had misters and was covered). Overall, great place!! So glad I came here :)

I first came across Don Woods' Say When reading a Yelp article listing out the best rooftops in…read moreeach state. Don Woods was Arizona's pick. For quite a few months, I had it on my list to visit. I finally made things happen on a Wednesday evening for a drink. Located on the roof (of course) of a boutique hotel, I find free parking in the hotel's parking lot. While it was a busy parking lot, I was able to find a spot. Unfortunately, my night consisted of a comedy of errors. Ambiance (3/5): When you think best rooftop in the state, you're thinking scenic and peaceful views. Don Woods' certainly has that, though I've seen better in Phoenix. You can see the mountains in the background, but that's about it. The hotel is located on a busy street, where you'll often hear the noise of cars buzzing by or the train choo-chooing. Did I just make up a word?! I imagine the best time to stop by is during sunset. The outdoor area is relatively narrow with seating for about 20-30 people. It's a mix of comfortable seats and tables/chairs. There's also a charming indoor area, where the bar is located, but I felt like I had to sit outside. The weather was perfect, too. Service (2.5/5): This is where the comedy of errors began. I was given a menu and some water and was left to peruse the menu. Before the waitress had returned, I had picked out an appetizer and a cocktail. I then discovered that their cook had quit the other week and as a result, no food was available. That's fine and all, but you've gotta give me a heads-up when giving me the menu. That way, I wouldn't have spent the time to look over the food menu and get my heart set on a particular dish. On a better note, they have free WiFi. And service was overall friendly and pretty efficient. Food (N/A): While I was unable to order some food, on most nights, they have a small menu of small plates. More of a snack type of spot then a full meal type of establishment. Drinks (3/5): Don Woods is know for its cocktails and they have a list of 10 or so craft cocktails. Plus, beer, wine, and the typical options that you would find when there's a full bar. I feel like the bartender messed up the proportions on my cocktail as it was a bit rough. One drink and I was out. It seems like Don Woods' is experiencing some turnover which is leading to some mishaps. Combine that with some high expectations given the accolades they won, and it was the recipe for a disaster. I love a good rooftop bar, so I was hoping for more at Don Woods' Say When. Even the lobby of the hotel was experiencing issues. They sell popsicles in the lobby but the guy temporarily manning the front desk didn't know how to get their Square device working. Which ended up meaning no appetizers for me at Don Woods and no popsicles from the lobby. Two strikes. We live to fight another day.

There's not many food selections and Sundays they are closed. The drinks are semi-expensive but…read moredelicious. I would try it but at the rooftop bar it's pretty warm during the summer. I say try it if you have a chance.
