I really liked the Chicken Pumpkin Curry - Spice Level 2 Will totally get this again, I chide as the chicken was a tad dry. But the curry was great! I also got the Tom Yum Soup and Garlic Pepper Beef, Spice Level 2 Both dishes were very good no complaints at all. All three dishes at level 2 was just right for me. Seemed more like a 3, but this was my first time, glad I did not go level 5. I would say the pumpkin curry, was like a 4.5 or higher, but the other dishes were well balanced an real good too. So Yay! I went to this Thai restaurant for a baby shower. They are normally closed on Sundays but for this occasion they were open to just the guests of the shower. We were served several dishes buffet style; chicken larb, eggplant and tofu, beef broccoli, Thai egg rolls, shrimp wrapped in egg roll wrappers, Tom Yum soup, and chicken Pad Thai. Overall everything was very tasty. I love larb, and it was good with a slight kick. I would say my only complaint was the Tom Yum soup was on the sweeter side versus the sour side like I'm use too. The service was wonderful, all the ladies worked very hard and I was very impressed. So I'm not sure if they normally do special events but if they do this is a place other should consider. read more

This is my family's favorite spot to go to at least 2-3 times a month. They are always the sweetest and most patient. When COVID hit, we made sure to come more often and tip bigger so that they did not close down. We don't know where we would get our Thai food if this place had to close. Amazing curries, pad Thai, basil rice, honestly everything. I miss the rose straws from before COVID but still the Thai iced coffee and Thai iced tea are delicious. We just moved into the neighborhood near here and stopped by last night for something hot and spicy to thaw our chilly bones. Mission accomplished. Service was super nice, tables are large, seating is comfortable, and décor is relaxing. They have a pretty shocking amount of really good beers and a decent wine list. We each ordered a beer, and then ordered lamb stew and green curry with chicken to share. We were told they didn't have any lamb available (bummer, since that is one of my favorite meats to order at Thai places), so we switched to Tom Yum soup with chicken and tofu. The food came out hot, aromatic, and well plated. Both dishes totally hit the spot and the prices were reasonable. I was a little concerned there were no cars in the parking lot when I arrived. I ventured in anyways, and I loved the Thai music playing the whole time, it has such an authentic feeling. Then I was greeted by a very nice lady, to sit anywhere I wanted as 2 people left and I sit all alone, it is peaceful I was given a yummy bowl of sour spicy soup with a few veggies. I ordered the pad thai with a little mix up when delivered bc it was only chicken and tofu. But still the best tasting authentic just enough sauce and it wasn't dry. Really enjoyed lunch here today! On a whim, we decided to try out JP Thai kitchen, it'd been a while since we went anywhere for lunch. The decor is really pleasant, wooden panelled walls, clean, nice floors, and welcome to the eye. Our host was holding down many tasks and still available with a smile. The Golden shrimp appetizer was so so good, crunchy, shrimpy, with a tasty sauce though the presentation was lacking, but the place was busy and we had food rather quickly. Next the Pad Thai and my major fave - Tom Kha soup. The soup was so palatable, aromatic, and refreshingly tasty. Hard to describe, I know it has a complex list of ingredients, but they all come together quite nicely, and this example was really good! My wife was enjoying the Pad Thai, and with the generous portions we shared it all and had a bit left over for a snack. Yes, a lovely, tasty place. The only negative: The TV. Really junks up the place in my opinion. I know this restaurant had previous owners at a different location, where they had a lovely aquarium. I'd vote for JP Thai to replace the TV with a nice fish tank. Another consideration would be to cover the shelf of kitchen items such as to-go boxes and such (and remove the film from the artwork!). read more

I've been to so many Thai/Laos restaurants and this I have to say is my favorite so far . The waitress was super attentive , and very sweet . We came in literally a minute after they open , so 11am . They were serving lunch specials but if you ask you can also get the dinner menu as well . I came here because I have never had Thai fried rice. But all the dishes sounded so good and they have spice levels too . I, for one really enjoy spicy food so i ended up getting the spicy egg plant with pork as the choice of poultry . My fiancé ordered the Thai fried rice with prawns and Thai papaya. As we were waiting , we got served with hot and spicy soup as a starter . The soup was probably one of my favorite because it resembles so close to the soup my mom made for me when I was younger . The papaya came out first within 10 minutes . I've never had Thai papaya either so when it came out I was pretty shocked. "Woah this papaya doesn't stink" Hahah . The liquid wasn't dark and grey-ish , it seemed it was as if it was more fish sauce base and lime . It was good ! Then our entrees came out no more than 10 minutes later and I saw my fiancé fried rice it immediately caught my eye . It looked sooooo flavorful . I took a bite and realized that Thai fried rice is now the only rice I'll ever want ! No seriously the rice was moist , and so compact with flavor . I literally picked at the rice my fiancé had more than the rice I had on mine . The eggplant dish I had was really good too . Usually when I go to Thai restaurants the curry base they have with there stir fry / curry dish is way too sweet , what I had was red based curry and it was just perfect . The spice level I had was "hot" and that is right under Thai spicy. It wasn't spicy enough for me but it was still definitely enjoyable . But I kind regret not getting the rice ! But there's definitely a next time and I can't NOT wait to come back. read more

The food was great, the ambiance was a little unusual...a bit divey and they had decor that looked like it belonged inside of a Subway, but whatevs. The menu had plenty to choose from. Service could have been better. There were only a few other patrons and we waited close to an hour just to order and get our food. The bill took a bit too. So here's the thing about Erawan: it's either aaaawesome, or meh. Clear? Prolly not. Lemme explain. Of the probably 15-20 times I have eaten at Erawan, (mostly takeout, because it's near my office) the Red Curry is what keeps me coming back. It's usually outstanding. I mean, phenomenal. Thick and rich and just NOM, with plenty of meat or tofu. I always ask for extra spicy, and they usually get it just right, resulting in a runny nose and a fiery tongue that hurts so good. The veggies are usually cooked just right, and I am usually super happy I picked Erawan. You may have noticed the plethora of "usually"s. If I were to put a scientific percentage on it, I would say 78% aaaawesome, 22% meh. The times that my experience has been meh, it's been reeeeeal meh. Watery, bland curry, rubbery veggies, no spice. It was like I ordered from a completely different place! Those times alone are why I give this place 3 stars instead of 4. As excited as my tummy is when I am going to pick up my Erawan, I'm always just a liiittle skurred that I'm getting the meh. By the way... if you eat in, you get a bowl of delish sweet and sour soup. Not so if you're taking out. Also, it's one of those deals where if you order a soda, they bring you a can. No refills. Just an FYI. But enough with the negative! Service has always been VERY fast here, which makes it very good for lunch hour. The noodles have always been good, especially the pad Thai and the drunken noodles. Oh, and try the Fried Tofu appetizer. It's GOOOOD. Verdict: Definitely worth a try. Erawan is usually great... usually. Especially for lunch. read more

I went to Erawan this weekend and was really excited. I finally got to try it out. I read all the good reviews on yelp, and had been dying to get some Erawan time. I got some seasoned lamb with rice and veggies and friend spring rolls. Dude, yes! So good! The lamb and vegetables were perfect, especially the vegetables, oh gosh, the vegetables! Yum! The rolls too! They were hot! Not spicy hot, but like hot, wicked hot, straight out of the fryer hot, which equals straight out of the fryer deliciousness. I also had a good, refreshing Thai beer, a Singha, good stuff! The restaurant is tucked away in the South Hills Shopping Center (or at least that's what I think it's called) it's a quite little shopping center that apparently hides a great Thai restaurant. The walls are decorated with cool, classy wood paneling and some cool paintings that look like they are from Thailand. Also they have a huge fish tank with a big fish in it. He just swims back and forth. It is kind of hypnotic to watch him. This place is great! Will most certainly be back in the near future! read more

YES!!! Thai food, authentic, good and close to home!!!! I love fried rice and I love spicy. Many Thai restaurants have spicy fried rice on their menu but most of them are not spicy at all. Erawan's Hot Basil Fried Rice was really good and with a good amount of spice. One of my favorite dishes is the prawn or calamari salad. Super good. A little on the salty side but that's what the sticky rice or some noodles are for. Fresh shrimp spring rolls...delish. Angel wings... super delish with nice sweet and sour sauce to go with. The Thai tea was a little too sweet but other than that, the food was great! I can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu. What a hidden gem! Now I have TWO fav Thai restaurants in Sacramento. Erawan has the BEST red curry chicken! They're actually more known for their duck curry, but I don't like duck. My friends generally order it and love it, but I like mine with chicken or shrimp. The red curry is saucy, creamy, and rich! It's great with fresh sticky rice. Their papaya salad is freshly made with the traditional touch. It's not Americanized so you'll definitely experience the real stuff. Btw, let them know how spicy you want the papaya salad. I often get mine spicy to help me with my sinus. As for their spicy cod, the fish is freshly deep fried with a light batter and lightly covered with a sweet and spicy sauce. Oh, and their dessert.. I have lived in the Greenhaven/South Land Park area for almost 3 years now and I have always driven by this spot (previously named Erawan) because I was already committed to The Coconut Midtown and Thai Basil....buuuuuuuttttt.....Thai food sounded really good today and I didn't want to deal with downtown traffic SO I finally gave this place a try. I am a fan of creamy red curry so I got the Panang Curry and my boyfriend got the Golden Prawns. The curry was really good but a little sweeter than I am used to and I prefer spicy. The prawns were really good as well although my boyfriend wouldn't share and only let me have one The service was very good! They were all so sweet and happy to receive my buainess. The interior is also really nice with a quiet atmosphere, which was a little surprising when you consider the location. All in all, I will be coming back to try their fried rice and drunken noodles.
