Got to try several items and loved it all. Used healthy herbs base for the jpot and that soup was amazing and I am not a big soup fan but always willing to try something new. Are 3/4 of the pot of soup. I so wanted more but I was stuffed. I highly recommend this place and my waitress Fenny was very sweet and attentive without feeling like she was pestering the whole meal and made sure all was going well throughout the meal and ready to bring me more. We went while they're still doing the soft opening and the service and the waiters definitely need to learn how to provide good customer service. The servers are really young so I get it, but they should be trained to provide more of an experience and not just say here's the menu. Here's what you can get. Now eat They need to train all of the servers to stop chitchatting and gossiping in the corner in front of customers about their daily lives or whatever it just seems very unprofessional. But upon trying to start our order they were out of regular Sake only had two flavored choices, okay so we were down to try the flavored ones... nope they were out of Kirin Ichiban beer as well. Can't really have a sake bomb without the beer. We then ask for a cocktail menu, the server says it's easier if he just gives us his tablet.. the drinks only have the names on there no drink description, so is that easier for us as customers or you as a server so you don't have to go get a menu? Also says on the tablet they are 86 on a bunch of other cocktails. Okay so we take the sign maybe we shouldn't drink here. He tells us the entire table has to choose if we want the hot pots as well or just the bbq, we cannot have just two out of four with hot pots. Okay we are deciding to just all do the dinner BBQ , but looking at the grill in front of us and there's still leftover meat on the sides of the grill from the last table. Nice place to go and cook your own food. Price is a little high, but you do get a lot of choices. I didn't like the soup so that was a waste for me. But the cooking center area with the open flames was fun and adds to the meal and ambiance of the experience. Service was a little lacking and slow to get drinks refilled but we were a large group so we didn't mind too much. I saw on other reviews that they had amazing waitstaff that explained things for people who are visiting for the 1st time . We did our best & made it through the menu . Next we got our meat and attempted to cook it on the grill . It was horrible !! All our meat burned ! Tasted absolutely awful & unedible . It was not that we don't know how to cook either my husband & I are experts on the grill . However the mini grill burns right of way , it's not a good quality . The fire was uneven . I asked waiter what is going on ? Everything burnt right of the jump . fire is uneven . He said let me bring u a new grill . & same thing ! The food burned & yes we know how to grill. we did NOT just put it directly on the hottest part of the fire ! It was costly and we couldn't even eat the food . The ramen was okay to be fair , however very little options for veggies . It hurt to pay the bill because I left absolutely disappointed & hungry . I'll insert a pic of my bill & food . Please be cautious, in all fairness they did ask me in the beginning if I would like them to cook it for me . First time trying a restaurant like this for lunch & it was not too busy. Price is reasonable, choose up to 6 meats and no limit on veggies. Prepare your self as there is also a small buffet to get different sauces and side dishes before or during the time you cook your food. Our waitress was amazing, attentive, helpful, and sharing the details for the official grand opening next Thursday Oct 17th at 5 pm. Tonight we decided to give J Pot a try, and the experience was underwhelming. The staff, though friendly, appeared very young and inexperienced. Our waiter explained the two menu options--grill and hotpot--and mentioned a $5 upcharge if we wanted to combine both. We went ahead with it. While waiting, we tried the warm bar for some pre-dinner snacks, which were actually quite good. However, things went downhill from there. The tonkatsu broth, which is central to the hotpot experience, was lackluster and completely devoid of flavor. Though it was filling (as ramen and soup often are), it was hardly enjoyable. We did not stay for the grill. I would have much rather had the grill first and the soup last. Now I feel like I've been scammed. What was most disappointing was the price. We ended up paying $30+ each for what essentially felt like a glorified Maruchan ramen meal with minimal ingredients. The pricing strategy does not seem justified based on the quality or portions, and I can't see the value in returning for what felt like an overpriced and underwhelming meal. read more

Note: This was their soft opening review. I dropped by Jpot on their soft opening night hoping to try out this new restaurant by my house. I've been waiting for months for them to open. I was very excited because of familiarity with AYCE bbq and hot pot's restaurants and hoping to have a good experience. Unfortunately my experience didn't meet up to my standards. I'm hoping to come back and give them another opportunity because I hope it was just because they just opened and working out the kinks of the business. Since it was their soft opening, there was a long wait which I didn't mind. During my wait the manager offered me to sit with another family at a table and I declined. He said I would have to wait another 45 minutes if I didn't sit with them and I still declined. I genuinely like my own privacy at my own table and feel uncomfortable sitting too closely to others especially while eating. I felt really pressured to share a table but I continued to decline the offer. When we were finally seated, the server introduced herself and told us all about our options. I expected them to be missing items but they were missing a lot of different items that I was looking for. I could tell she felt bad about it and I reassured her it was okay. Once we ordered we went over to the ready to eat area and sauce area. The ready to eat area wasn't really impressive at all. Their main focus was clearly the hotpot and bbq. We went back to our table and continued to wait for our first order of hot pot. It took 30 minutes for our first order to come out. Take in mind, I wouldn't mind this because they were busy but the menu clearly states we only have 90 minutes to eat and if it's going to take 30 minutes each time for an order we weren't going to be able to truly enjoy ourselves especially since were restricted into ordering only three items. While we were waiting for our food servers continued to hover over us, which was uncomfortable. I didn't mind our own server coming to help us but it seemed like all the servers were looking for work to do. One even came up to us and asked if they could take anything away before we ever received any food. Another continuously came back and said they were looking for stuff to do. It seemed the back of house seemed super busy and understaffed trying to get orders out and the front door house servers were looking for work and hovering. After 30 minutes we finally received our order of Tom yum soup and our meats and noodles. The portions were smaller than I expected but we just ended up dumping everything into our pot and putting in another order immediately. By the time the next order came we were ready and our pots were empty. We continued to do the same throughout the night. We paid 93.22 which was two AYCE hot pots and two sodas and tip. Was it worth it? Not really. Our server was nice and she tried her best but the soft opening clearly demonstrated they need to work out a lot of things. We also ended up sick that night and the next day. Both of us are still recovering from extremely upset stomachs from the food. Im hoping this was due to how we cooked the food and not the quality but at this point I don't know because the meat came out to us warm. Overall it was a tough night for Jpot and their staff. I don't know when I'll be back but if I do come back I hope it's better because $100 dinner is a lot for mediocre food that makes you sick. read more

I've tried a few kbbq places here in San Antonio like One Pocha, Kim's Galbi, and Kpot off of I-10. I LOVE a good hotpot and kbbq combo! However, after visiting JPot, I am not sure why the reviews are so high. Perhaps it was my experience, but let's dive into the details. We, a couple, arrive around 5pm on a Thursday, and are sat promptly. The host was kind, and then we waited. And waited. And waited... Around 10 minutes later our server comes, asks for our drink order and leaves. He returns again shortly, explains the process and proceeds to take our order. We notice there is plenty of staff, around 8 people on the floor, with little to no customers besides us and 2 other tables. The restaurant looked fairly clean, however upon further inspection when choosing our veggies (they do not deliver it to the table like other places) there were flies. For this I do not blame the restaurant, it happens, but it's also just gross to see flies on food like that (especially knowing they could lay fly eggs.) Our food comes out quickly, we got the kbbq/hot pot combo. The Tom Yum was lacking all flavor not an inch of spice, but the fixings were decent and we were able to fix our own hot pot sauce that saved it. The meats were (mostly) not marinated and lacked flavor, even their bulgogi had no type of seasoning! Overall, for almost $100, we would not recommend this place to anyone looking to try hotpot + kbbq for the first time. Convenient location on Potranco, but would not return. read more

We dined for lunch the meat options were massive although not all were for lunch, but a great selection. When we entered there were two hosts that were prompt and got us seated right away. Our server was so attentive as soon as we were coming to our last sips a new drink would appear, and when we were thinking of getting a new protein he would be there to take our order. The JPot BBQ and HotPot Restaurant has not yet officially had their grand opening so they are still ironing out the kinks. One of the servers spilled a pot of hot soup on me - it stained my skirt and burned my skin. Hopefully the servers will become more adept at bringing the hot soup to tables. In spite of that one mishap, they are on their way to being a great restaurant. The concept was new to some of our party but our server, Feny, did an excellent job of explaining the ordering process. The restaurant was loud so she went to both sides of the table to clearly explain the process to each of us. The protein choices were solid and since we we're responsible for cooking our own meals, no one had any complaints on how well cooked their meat was. Each guest gets to choose a couple of vegetables as well so there was plenty of variety at our table of six. We first had our hot pots and, honestly, that would have been enough to fill everyone up! However, we chose to also do the BBQ as well. There are "a la carte" items served buffet style and for dessert there is "free" ice cream that is available. When we went, the restaurant was waiting on their liquor license but sake and other alcohol will eventually be served. This was a fun family dinner choice. We will be back for sure. read more

Made no reservation and I showed up at about 7:15 pm on Friday 9/27. For a party of 3, we waited about 30 minutes. However...grandma was impatient and also naive. Yup that's my mom. A stubborn ignorant old Korean. What did the staff do? They took care of us. My mom complained because she didn't understand. We were still waiting after 30 minutes. Definitely book reservations online with Yelp. The traffic was non stop. Once seated, omg the food was delicious! I like the appetizer bar. Great delicious chicken wings , fried rice, fruit, egg rolls snd more. We each ordered separate broths. Everything was amazing. I like that the music wasn't blaring and the area was subtle but trendy. Very demure lol. I'll be back for sure! Not 3 or 4 stars. My service was excellent and the food was delicious.
