I've tried a few kbbq places here in San Antonio like One Pocha, Kim's Galbi, and Kpot off of I-10. I LOVE a good hotpot and kbbq combo! However, after visiting JPot, I am not sure why the reviews are so high. Perhaps it was my experience, but let's dive into the details. We, a couple, arrive around 5pm on a Thursday, and are sat promptly. The host was kind, and then we waited. And waited. And waited... Around 10 minutes later our server comes, asks for our drink order and leaves. He returns again shortly, explains the process and proceeds to take our order. We notice there is plenty of staff, around 8 people on the floor, with little to no customers besides us and 2 other tables. The restaurant looked fairly clean, however upon further inspection when choosing our veggies (they do not deliver it to the table like other places) there were flies. For this I do not blame the restaurant, it happens, but it's also just gross to see flies on food like that (especially knowing they could lay fly eggs.) Our food comes out quickly, we got the kbbq/hot pot combo. The Tom Yum was lacking all flavor not an inch of spice, but the fixings were decent and we were able to fix our own hot pot sauce that saved it. The meats were (mostly) not marinated and lacked flavor, even their bulgogi had no type of seasoning! Overall, for almost $100, we would not recommend this place to anyone looking to try hotpot + kbbq for the first time. Convenient location on Potranco, but would not return. read more

The JPot BBQ and HotPot Restaurant has not yet officially had their grand opening so they are still ironing out the kinks. One of the servers spilled a pot of hot soup on me - it stained my skirt and burned my skin. Hopefully the servers will become more adept at bringing the hot soup to tables. In spite of that one mishap, they are on their way to being a great restaurant. The concept was new to some of our party but our server, Feny, did an excellent job of explaining the ordering process. The restaurant was loud so she went to both sides of the table to clearly explain the process to each of us. The protein choices were solid and since we we're responsible for cooking our own meals, no one had any complaints on how well cooked their meat was. Each guest gets to choose a couple of vegetables as well so there was plenty of variety at our table of six. We first had our hot pots and, honestly, that would have been enough to fill everyone up! However, we chose to also do the BBQ as well. There are "a la carte" items served buffet style and for dessert there is "free" ice cream that is available. When we went, the restaurant was waiting on their liquor license but sake and other alcohol will eventually be served. This was a fun family dinner choice. We will be back for sure. read more

Ambiance was nice. Food was okay. I ordered enoki mushrooms and udon noodles but it never came out, which was fine. The bbq I enjoyed the most. Our server was good but I did not see her much because they placed a huge family in her section. She seemed overwhelmed while her coworkers wandered around nonchalantly. Made no reservation and I showed up at about 7:15 pm on Friday 9/27. For a party of 3, we waited about 30 minutes. However...grandma was impatient and also naive. Yup that's my mom. A stubborn ignorant old Korean. What did the staff do? They took care of us. My mom complained because she didn't understand. We were still waiting after 30 minutes. Definitely book reservations online with Yelp. The traffic was non stop. Once seated, omg the food was delicious! I like the appetizer bar. Great delicious chicken wings , fried rice, fruit, egg rolls snd more. We each ordered separate broths. Everything was amazing. I like that the music wasn't blaring and the area was subtle but trendy. Very demure lol. I'll be back for sure! Not 3 or 4 stars. My service was excellent and the food was delicious. I'll just make reservations online ahead of time. I also want to add...it's hard finding great Asian food in San Antonio . This hot pot place hit the spot. I don't even know where to start with this review honestly lol. It just seems like there is a total lack of care or regard for the patrons that dine at this restaurant and it shows clearly through the staff . First off our server was very quick to greet us and run down the menu, we ordered drinks first of course and requested sake. 15 minutes to by, we get our food ordered and the food comes out before the drinks. We tried to flag our waiter down to see what was taking so long considering it should have just been a bottle brought over to us that WE opened. Finally, the bartender who had just clocked in came over and informed us that the Sake was sold out and the server shouldn't have been able to put in the order???? Also while trying to order our food we were told by our waiter to just "stick to the beef" when trying to order our first sets of meat?? Why is the waiter telling me what to start with??? Whatever right we still got a couple beers after and tried to enjoy the food. The meat wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either and the lack of sauce bar was also disappointing as we couldn't even try to save the mediocre cuts of meat with some sauce. The appetizer station was also far from satisfactory seeing as most of the items looked like they had just been sitting there under a hot lamp for hours. The only fresh thing we had from that app bar was the shrimp tempura. All in all it was a very disappointing visit and I hope this was just a one off because it's slowing down for these kinds of businesses for the holiday season. I will not be returning as there are various alternatives for this style of food where the service is better and the appetizer/sauce bars are actually hot and stocked. We have been here a few times and it is probably our new go-to place for celebrations/special occasions! We've been enjoying trying out different broths and ingredients for the hotpot on our different visits. There was a small learning curve the first time so now we know to make sure you have all your selections picked out when the server comes back for the best experience. We also discovered toward the end of our first visit there is a little buffet with desserts and appetizers to enjoy while you wait for your ingredients to be brought. There is a wide selection of ingredients so there lots of options for different food preferences and diets. The only downside is if anyone in your party is ordering both the hotpot and the Korean barbecue, the whole party has to get both, so this is something to discuss ahead of time. However, both the hotpot and the barbecue are all-you-can-eat. read more

Sunday night my husband and I decided to try Jpot out since it's closer to our home than Kpot. We arrived there wasn't a wait which was nice. We sat down & was greeted by our waiter who was a younger female her name started with an H. She was working very hard serving multiple tables in all different areas. I had overheard her ask the busser could he help her clean the table that they're about to sit another party down and the busser flat out told her no. She begged, please help they're coming he said no so she asked for a rag and he told her he didn't have one. It was sad seeing, because in a place of business it's everyone's job to help one another. They completely changed their Tum Yum recipe/ingredients and it is BAD. The tum yum was the only reason I went. They also never have the short ribs when we go which are the best part of the bbq. I want to to say that the whole experience was superb! I went with my daughter, she loves the "hotpot" cuisine.. Me not so much. Right off the bat, she pulls out my "BMI CARD"! If you know, you know. The were more than happy to accept the card. The manager was so gracious and spoke with us and made sure we enjoying our experience. (He spoke to all of the customers not just us)! Our server was topnotch! The meat and veggies were fresh and the soup was tasty! I LOVED the chicken wings! I forgot the names but I believe the server was Dane and the manager Tom or John, I apologize to them both. I hope that, if you're reading this, that you go and try this for yourself. I love going to places like this because you get to cook your food and spice your food to your taste buds. The service was excellent. The weight staff knew how to explain everything to you. Anything you ordered was brought out immediately. The inside of the restaurant was just gorgeous And it is fun to cook your own food like this. Look everything is great. First time I go , service was great. I did everything the bbq pit and hot pot. It's all you can eat meat but keep that in mind to save room ! It's a nice place inside. This place is very nice. They really took their time building the place. However, things that really bothered me was they did not yet have their license to serve alcohol. I asked for a Pepsi and it had to be taken back twice for being very flat. I asked for a Dr. Pepper instead and it tasted nasty. It's all you can eat for 90 min and that's fine for a small party but not for a big group. They have a small ready to eat buffet but what was funny, was their chicken nuggets tasted like McDonald's. NOW for the cons while being a rockstar DJ warned us that they have had multiple fires on the grills which had me scared anytime he had to fix it and him having to telling us what to do in case this happened showed us how the SERVER CARED MORE ABOUT OUR SAFETY THAN THE OWNERS IF THEY KNOW ABOUT THESE INCIDENTS !!!! Every other Korean BBQ place uses somewhat solid grill surfaces, allowing heat to evenly disperse and make the entire cooktop consistent. With this thin metal grate, you're getting an inferno in the dead center, and cool enough to hold your hand over the outer ring. This makes it inefficient to cook, because you'll be able to sear one small piece of meat (if too big, the outside will be in the cool zones), while slowly warming everything else. You get 90 minutes to eat as much as you want, which is actually a challenge due to the inefficient and inconsistent cooktop. Also, most other places have exhaust fans directly over the grills. Here, you have the luxury of sitting and getting fumigated with the smoke from whatever is on that center inferno. read more

While I'd love to leave a raving review I've been there twice now and it's okay, the sauce bar is always empty been there at 5 ish and 6:30 and the flavors (marinade) aren't as good as some other places in town they oddly always seem to be out of something. My boyfriend and I came here for valentines day. We had to wait 2 hours before being seated, which was understandable because its a holiday and i dont mind waiting that long knowing that this place does not take reservations. We got seated at 9pm and our first waitress was okay, until she disappeared half way through the service. We waited about 20min to ask the waitress serving the table next to us to get our next order in. From that point on the next waitress was very lovely and sweet. She asked us how everything was doing multiple times unlike the past one who hadnt asked us that at all. She even got us refills and took our dirty plates, unlike the first server. Finally we were done cooking our last bit of meat and our waitress asks us how were doing, this time we asked for the check. She followed up by asking us if we wanted any ice cream so we said yes and waited for her to come back. Then 2 minutes later the manager comes and asks how everything is doing and we say its okay. He then says "great but we are a little over our time here so we need to wrap it up". We let him know that we already asked for our check and he was on his way. The ambiance was beautiful, bathrooms were very clean. However service was unfortunately not the best. I have been to one other KBBQ place before and that was KPOT. I went with a group of 6 people and had only one server. That server was 100% more attentive than our dirst server was. To top it off when we left, we saw our first server sitting at the bar talking to the bartender. As a customer standpoint, this doesn't look good at all. I understand if she was cut or wasn't feeling well but a heads up about not being able to be our server anymore would have been great. Been to numerous Korean bbq from west coast to Midwest. I understand this place just open but meat quality was decent and not spectacular. Cuts are too thick to even grill. Staff stated it'll take 2/3 minutes for shrimp and certain cuts of beef. I had shrimp on for 5 minutes and it's still raw. Staff inform us that the flame can not be adjusted. I've seen other customer trying to grill food but heat is not hot enough. Staff workers went to rest room and didn't even wash hands upon leaving. Will not return to this place read more

Not a fan. 1st time trying Jpot; not first time for bbq or hotpot. Although the food was fresh, the service was excellent, the cocktails were on point...just didn't like a lot about it. The lobster was literally adhered to the shell after it was cooked. Was offered by (I'm guessing the manager) a "spoon" to dislodge the meat. However since it was already cooked I knew it wouldn't release from the shell... I accepted the spoon as I thought the manager was going to come around and check on me again. Oh, he walked by and saw me fighting to get the meat out of the shell... I was disappointed by his lack of follow through. So if you're reading this, make sure you dislodge the meat from the shell before you cook it. If they already haven't. Just cutting it down the middle does not do the trick. Also, we ordered fillet . When it came, I was very disappointed about the size. We were offered steak sauce and it never came asked for a second time and it never came. Had to ask for soy sauce. A small amount was brought in a side cup. Next time I'll have to bring my own if I decide to come again. Probably won't be returning.. and as for the hot pot, I make better Ramen at home. Even though I added extra flavoring. To my soup it lacked flavor AND IT WAS TOO DARN HOT TO EAT. A bowl was not provided. A spoon was not provided.. I don't know how anyone expects you to eat soup without a spoon without a bowl and with no flavor. Yes I added lots to flavor. It was so bland. The decor was so bad, like K-mart threw up after the clearance section had a final sale. Other than that it was okay. read more

the food wasn't fresh and it gave me and my friend diarrhea. the food here was terrible. the beef, lamb, and pork were all far from fresh. every piece of meat tasted sour and was extremely tough and hard to chew. the vegetables weren't fresh either, and you could tell everything had been sitting around for too long. after eating here, both my friend and i ended up with bad diarrhea the entire next day. this was an awful dining experience, and i honestly cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone at all. read more
