I live in the neighborhood. My family has been here for 4 years. We've never been here but wanted to try it . So....My 22 old daughter and I thought it would be good to try the local hole in the wall. So we walk in. Nobody bothers to even acknowledge us. Ok...it's a Friday after 6. We get a four top and start looking at the menu. We sit and sit and sit. Nobody even says they don't have table service but evidently they don't. I'm not going to write an extended diatribe but needless to say after another 20 minutes a waitress came up to take my daughter's ID. 6 minutes later and on and on and on I told her that she could go ***k herself and we walked out. All we wanted was some wings and a beer. I've heard they have good wings. Will I find out? Nope. I hope you don't get the chance. I'm not going back. Too bad. Perhaps a little biased since I host karaoke there a couple nights a week, but this bar is a great little hangout....unpretentious, casual, inexpensive, easygoing crowd, good neighborhood, ample parking, and great karaoke! ;-) Well, the sound is great, but the quality of the vocals is up to YOU!! Free pool after 6pm on Sundays and Tuesdays, free karaoke Mon, Wed, Thurs, and Sat, and a free live band every Friday night! Can you beat that? Not for me, especially since it's within walking distance of my pad. 4 out of 5 stars because a 5-star joint would require $2 drafts all night long with valet parking and wet t-shirt contests on the hour! This place is awesome. I lived within walking distance for a minute and had some amazing nights here (some a little too amazing ). Such a good dive. Joey is the best! One of the best bartenders around - super sweet, and puts up with my antics. Gunna miss her so much when I move. This bar has karaoke on Wednesdays, and also plays all current games. We drove by this plaza and the huge sign that said "THURSDAY 40 cent WINGS" caught our eye. Can this really be? =P We decided to give this pub a try and it turned out to be a great choice. The pub was super cute and homey. The bartender came out of the bar, walked up to our table to greet us and took our order and he was also our server for the night. He was super nice. They have SMOKED wings here which was amazing, so if you every want a healthier alternative to fried wings, this is the place to go. We tried the spicy bbq and asian sauce and I liked the Asian sweet and source sauce better. My date got a beer, so with 20 wings, a beer and a large order or (very delicious) tater tots, our bill came out to only $14. JP's Pub is a hidden gem in Tierrasanta (aka, The Island in the hills). I have been coming here for several years now, and have had many memorable fun times and great experiences with friends and the staff. The bartenders are friendly and attentive to your needs. Most of all, I enjoy watching and listening to Maria when she is working. She's quick to get your order and make you feel comfortable. Food is very good, and drink prices are highly competitive with most bars in San Diego County. I can't wait until the pandemic is over so we can get things as close to normal as possible. read more

This place was cool the bar was nice and clean my biggest like disappointment with this place was that when we asked for napkins the bartender make older gentlemen just no crap threw the napkins thought that was externally odd. I as being in food service industry and the service industry for over 15 years found this extremely rude. Outside of that the people were fine just a late night spot for folks 30 and older I'd give this place 1 or 2 more tries if it's a bad experience I'd never go back. Dont go if james is bartending! I was there with a group of friends. We were polite and spent a lot of money. The bartender James was polite at first but, by the end of the night turned into a real a**hole. I'm not sure if he's bipolar but the regulars told me he gets like that sometimes. I know other bartenders that work here and have never had this happen before. I left no tip on a $60 tab. I will not return here if he is working! read more

Modest sized bar with extraordinary happy hour drink prices. Located in Serra Mesa in the same shopping plaza as vons. Parking is average. Staff is friendly. Not a very big place but they do the job. They have a billiard table and several flat screen TVs for your enjoyment pleasure. The drink specials during happy hour are extraordinary!!! $3 well drinks. Now that's a happy hour. It's a sports pub until someone decides they need the jukebox instead, which happened several times today during college football. The good - I'm not a regular but Amalea greeted me with a smile and took a little time to chat. The not so good - When Maria showed up for shift change that whole deal changed, not even a smile or hello out of her even after I ordered food and drink... It was almost like I was imposing. She took care of her regulars but I may as well have been invisible. She only paid attention after I cashed out, presumably to see if I left a tip. Would have stuck around longer if there wasn't such a noticeable difference in customer service. The food was decent, although the guy next to me pulled a large hair out if his nachos. Well, the pub atmosphere lasted for a little while, then James the bartender lost his mind. Yelling at every customer at the bar, and trying to dominate the crowd. He attempts to be a bouncer and physically assault customers, but he fails at that as well; resorting to stealing and breaking phones because he's arguing with patrons. If you walk in and see "James" on the bartending board, I'd recommend going somewhere else for the evening, as his toxicity is sure to ruin your evening. read more

Don't go here to play pool. Solid bartender but the security sucks. A regular accused us of erasing his name from the board and swiped the balls on our table with only two left. Security sided with the regular and kicked us out even though there was an open pool table the regular could have played on. Bartenders are nice but it doesn't make up for the special treatment regulars clearly get. Granted our opponents that ran the table explicitly looked for the next opponent and none was to be found so we proceeded with the game. Any number of actions could've been taken but the regular took to swiping the balls on our table and security decided to harass us to leave while easier options were available. The other table was open and the game was nearly finished. The bartenders were apologetic but apparently security runs the place and have no training in deescalation. read more

The only good thing about this place is the convenience and location. The service is one of the worst I have experienced. For being a bar they do not know how to serve beer. They spill it all over you when they bring it to you. Don't you ever ask for Guinness, if you are a Guinness beer lover, you will get upset to see how they "serve" it. They can't remember your tab. You have to ask many times for more drinks and do not even dare to ask for soda because, besides the bad face, you will never get a refill, even if you dare to ask. The bartender is just "nice" to alone male clients and 2 out of 5 options on the menu are not available. Do you let your employee give a discriminating attitude against the customers? Okay... I guess on busy dinner time on a special 'happy hour' kind of day.. I mean it was Thursday 50cents wings and it was the final game for basketball the pub should obviously be packed... So not so perfect customer service could be understandable.. But why is it that the only Asian group in the entire bar/pub got this worst service ? We weren't even loud or obnoxious at all. The waitress, named Robin apparently, gave us rude attitude the whole freaking night. We've never felt this uncomfortable when going out like this while it was supposed to be a celebration for my friend. On the other hand, the wings are delicious though. Strip Mall sleazy but the only joint within stumbling distance if you live in Tierrasanta. I'm not kidding, the only other saloon in the neighborhood was driven out of business when a religious cult bought out the whole strip mall. It's this place or Wednesday evenings at the at Knights of Columbus. The day time clientele skews a bit elderly with golf being the favorite topic of conversation even though nobody has played in years. Come evening the 40 something bar flies cue up if you want get lucky. (Don't worry, girls can and do get lucky here too...albeit usually with other girls!) There are pool tables, a bit of music and a decent enough time. The pour is a bit underwhelming but you will get bishsnookered in time one way or another. A couple of nights a week, some of the worst Karaoke in the area makes for amusing times especially if you are an aspiring Simon Cowell. read more

This is the place where everyone in Tierrasanta comes to drink. That could be good or bad depending on your ties to the area. I grew up and worked at one of the banks there so it is rare when I don't bump into someone I know there. I'm not a huge fan of the bar because it's not divey enough for me. FIRST REVIEW OF A KARAOKE BAR! Well for me in San Diego. I was very excited when my co worker asked if I would like particapar in some drinking and karaoke actions. It took me less than a micro milli milli milli second....and there is such a number, look it up!!! So this place is set up with a horseshoe shaped bar with high chairs (yes the baby kind.....no) around the bar. I want to say that Karaoke is huge at this bar. These people sing motha freakin good! REALLY! I don't know even know how I got myself up there. But I was determined to let San Diego know about me and Careless Whispers....and Hotel California. Those are my top songs folks isn't it a joy to learn a random fact about me!?!? HA!!! (insert Stewie laugh) As far as the drinks go, I believe they have a full bar. I don't remember so much because my co workers boyfriend kept force feeding me beer and shots. Felt like a cameo from a FRIENDS character at Cheers. Went on a slightly empty night, like a Monday or Tuesday for a drink with friend. It's obvious that everyone else there knew each other for the last decade, so we got a few stares at the beginning. It's definitely a dive bar, and not much else to say about it. For the sake of a review I'll give it my best shot. After walking through an inebriating cloud of cigarette smoke that always seems to be present you walk in and are instantly classified as fresh meat. That is, everyone is instantly staring at you as if to question your existence and why you're there. The bartenders are usually pretty friendly and Karaoke nights are always...date I say entertaining. They have a nice selection of decent beers which is a plus. Overall it's a dive bar so unless you're expecting something better and there's not much of a choice left in Tierrasanta I'd say enter at your own risk but take it for what it is. read more

After years of not going inside, I finally did. This is a fairly popular neighborhood sports bar - with pool tables and live music (at least on some nights). The food is surprisingly good and also quite filling. Most people probably order a burger and beer but I tried the steak wrap, onion rings, and Anthem pear cider. When you're the only bar in a community, you can get away with sucking a bit. I'm a big fan of dive bars, and Jp's, has all of the necessary requirements to be a good dive bar, save one - the prices. $6 for a cocktail at a place like this is insane, as is $13 for a pitcher of Sam Adams. So even though I can walk to this place I usually opt to drive somewhere else and cab it home since in the end it'll be cheaper than paying for drinks here. That being said, there are some things I like about this place. Karaoke on Thursday and Saturday nights is always a good time. They also have some cool bar games. The crowd can be a strange mix of military personnel and upper-middle class business people which makes for some interesting conversation. And the food is decent and the one thing you can get a deal on if you go during happy hour. This place is the reason I want to open a bar in Tierrasanta / Kearny Mesa. A ton of prospective customers looking for something slightly better than what they offer here. If they cut their drink prices to something a bit more reasonable, I would probably come here more often since I can walk home. read more

Every time I come here it's like it's a different bar. Some days it's hip young people playing pool. Other times there's lounge lizards singing karaoke. Some times it's hot military guys enjoying a drink. It never fails to disappoint. I've never had a problem with the service like the reviewer below but perhaps I'm just not hot enough... In my life I've found that you get what you give. I always have a smile on my face and respect for the people who work in the service industry because lord knows I've been there. Such a "townie" hangout spot. You can tell everyone knows each other and it's just another watering hole. Service is ok. You can't expect much from a place like this. Average prices. Should be cheaper, because it's such a hole in the wall. You can play pool and darts for cheap. This place has no atmosphere. I have driven past this place a couple times and, until recently, finally had the guts to go inside. I didn't hear good things about the place so wasn't eager to check it out but needed a drink. The place is nothing special- no frills, just a typical neighborhood bar. Drink selection was ok and the prices were reasonable. Too bad the kitchen closed as soon as I got there, but maybe it was a good thing. Although I was told I could go and bring in outside food- good to know. I was there during a Thursday karaoke night and I thought there would be more people. However, it still was pretty entertaining to hear some of the folks try out their singing "skills". Since it was not crowded, I felt service was good. I have seen the other posts about bad service and can totally see that when the place gets packed. Again, there is nothing special about the place, except that it is the only bar in Tierrasanta. If I lived in the area (especially within walking distance), I can see why people would like this place. Would I go back? Maybe, but not in a rush to do so anytime soon. read more

Karaoke Wednesday. It's a decent clean bar and the karaoke host was good. The vocals were submerged by too much echo on the effects. I would have given the bar more stars, but the bartender and cocktail waitress were terribly inattentive. We literally could only order one drink at a time (there was a group of four of us) because they kept walking away. It' a great way to prevent over serving, repeat customers, and tips. Ok, I bumped the review up a star. We checked in on yelp to get a free Jell-O shot and were informed by the waitress that they are no longer honoring this offer. Stopped in for a beer and some food with a friend a few months back. It was everything we hoped it would be. Hold in the wall dive bar type place. Smelled exactly how I imagined. And I mean that in the best way possible. Men and women of every age and the bartender was very personable.
