Meh... it was ok. I got the satay, which was good enough. But the rendang curry was not great. The sauce had a decent flavor but was kind of gritty and was absolutely LOADED with peppers and onions. Half the dish was bell peppers and I absolutely HATE having a curry or stir fry loaded with peppers. It's a lazy and cheap way to stretch out a dish instead of using better quality vegetables. At 9:05 pm on a rainy Memorial Day, we had attempted to go to 4 different restaurants that were closed or closing. We saw the lit sign and decided to give it a try. What a gem!!!! Generally, I am skeptical of Asian restaurants attempting to master multiple regions of cuisine under one roof. J's Asian Café's ability to solidly deliver a variety of cuisines is its core competency. Cuisine The Japanese sushi rolls we sampled were on point. The sizzling rice soup was excellent. The best dish - Singapore Noodles. I ordered the noodles with chicken and tofu. I must admit that the last time I had such flavorful, well balanced noodles (right amount of curry flavor) was at the Old Airport Road hawker center in Singapore. I look forward to trying out the Laksa and Rendang curry on my next visit. Service Wonderful and attentive service. Our drinks were constantly refilled. The waiter was knowledgeable and genuinely cared that the patrons of the restaurant had a wonderful experience. Ambience Very clean with a beautiful bar. Their egg drop soup is good (I always use a restaurant's egg drop soup to test the quality of the restaurant) and their entrees were delicious as well! A Malaysian friend had suggested we try this place out since my mother has been searching for the tastiest satay. She had lived in Malaysia before she came to the US, so we've been trying to find the one that reminds her of real Malaysian food. Well, we have found it. We were greeted by Bill, who is the host and may actually be one of the owners. We were seated and Mom asked what he recommended. Then they started talking about Malaysia. Mom was going to order the Laksa but then Bill suggested the Char Kway Teow. So she was going to order that and I ordered the Kari Vegetables. Of course, we had to order satay, we got chicken with chunky peanut sauce. Satay came out first and she devoured it and the sauce. I did get to have one skewer, but knowing that is what she really wanted to try, I let her have the other 3. Then surprise, a taste of one of their sushi specialties as a intro to the restaurant. We got 3 pieces of Rocky Road sushi. Very interesting. It was crunchy on the outside, with cream cheese on the inside, with avocado and a spicy tuna (maybe) and the crunchy was a fried something. Mom loved it and said we had to get a whole roll. She herself was on a roll! We then got a bowl of miso soup for each of us. That comes with the lunch meals. It was a very hearty miso soup, with big chunks of tofu and plenty of seaweed. Well, the Char Kway Teow came, as well as the Rocky Road roll. There were probably 10 pieces to that roll! Char Kway Teow had good flavor, some shrimp and squid. At this point, I think I was already getting full. Then my Kari Vegetables arrived and the waiter said that the spring rolls were on their way. Those also came with lunch dishes. I spooned the Kari over my rice bowl and for some reason, the kari was a bit watery and I didn't think it had any salt or even curry flavor. Mom said she thought it was too salty. Definitely was not spicy. So, maybe it was a good thing I was feeling full. The vegetables themselves were cooked appropriately and I ate them with the rice, not adding much kari juices to my rice. Once we decided we were definitely finished, Bill asked if we wanted dessert. He gave us a recommendation for a Malaysian dessert and when he explained what it was, I knew Mom would want to have at least a taste. So a few minutes later, this large bowl of shaved ice with red bean, something that looked like corn, jelly and condensed milk came out. This description does not do it justice. It was very colorful. Had a little difficulty spooning it into separate bowls for mom and for me as the ice had chunked. Come to find out, Bill explained that the ice was "shaved" in a blender, so it did not have the texture that a true shaved ice dessert could have which makes it feel and taste like snow. In any case, the flavor was good. Mom kept telling Bill that we would be back. He jokingly said come back for dinner. Well, as we were leaving, this was about 4 p.m. so we didn't think we'd be ready for dinner any time soon. He then said come back tomorrow. They serve lunch menu on Sunday too. Since this was recently opened for about a week, I don't think too many people know about it, but I can see that this will be a nice place to go for tasty food. I can't believe I hadn't reviewed our favorite sushi spot! My 4yo loves sushi, and they are so nice to her here! They've given her stickers, loaded her up with fortune cookies, and always been super sweet to her. My husband varies his orders, my kid gets the Philadelphia roll, and I get the hot California roll (I know, faux sushi LOL). Been here 3 times now and each time the waiters have been exceptional! Friendly, engaging and fun personalities. The food is prepared with fresh ingredients and the dishes I've tried across Thai and Chinese cuisines have been true to the tastes I've come to know. Tom Yum, hot and sour, egg drop are excellent. So glad we have a elegant Asian restaurant in John's Creek. Dined here on Mother's Day and was treated like a queen. Fast, friendly service with our server who treated us like family. Pad Thai and the Mongolian Triple are outstanding as well as the hot and sour soup. First time eating in there...have done takeout and delivery (which is quick and efficient btw). Came for lunch today and wow! I chose to order pickup through Yelp's integrated ordering system. When I arrived 20 minutes later my food was already waiting for me! I ordered the General Tso's chicken lunch special. It is an amazing deal! My meal came with a soup with fried wontons, a veggie spring roll, and fried rice- and this is all for well under $10! The food was all delicious and from what I saw the restaurant is very nice and spacious inside. My food came with a fork and spoon kindly packed up for me! The only point of confusion is that I ordered my chicken "spicy" (since it asked me how I wanted it) and it was not spicy in the least. I added some red pepper flakes and that helped a bit. Nothing remarkable here. At a table of four people, one person liked their dinner a lot, two said theirs were just OK, and one person's was bad. He had a noodle and shrimp dish that was supposed to be a curry. It had no sauce on it and no discernable curry flavor. It was really really dry. The manager came by to ask what we thought and when we told him about the non-existent curry he said "It's a very light curry flavor." Then he rushed off. LOL read more

So, I don't understand all the 4 and 5 star. We like Thai and Malaysian so that's what we ordered. Perhaps Chinese and Japanese dishes are better. Roti Canai - It is good, but a bit thick. Dipping sauce is good. Chicken Lettuce wraps - Fail. Arrived late along with main course. Four pods of lettuce each holding overly sweet ground chicken. That's it. Spicy Basil Fried Rice - Fail. Dry and without flavor. You can't just throw a few basil leaves in typical Chinese fried rice and call it Spicy Basil Fried rice. There is absolutely no spice or flavor. Spicy Basil Chicken - Blah. It had the looks, but the sauce is so sweet it killed any flavor. Singapore Noodles - Blah. Again very little flavor. Needs more curry or something. Rendang Curry Chicken - Big Fail. Tough and flavorless pieces of chicken covered in curry sauce. Not slow cooked chicken. Very disappointed. I was looking forward to having a good Thai/Malaysian close by.
