We ordered online and mostly got food from the Chinese portion of the menu. It took them well over an hour to get the food to us, claiming traffic was bad. When we finally received the food, it was still nice and hot. Perfect! Sadly, the food was not impressive at all. Very little sauce, hardly any vegetables, the fried rice was pretty bland and dry... and their ginger dressing for the salad tastes very sweet?? Almost like they added sugar to it. I'm guessing going into the actual restaurant would result in higher quality food considering all the other reviews are pretty amazing. We had an mediocre experience when the restaurant first opened. Our friends keep telling us the food quality has improved, especially the new dishes that were added after our last visit.....especially the assam laksa (more on that later). We ordered the dishes we haven't tried before - Mee Goreng and Asam Laksa. Both are very authentic Malaysian dishes. Mee Goreng literally means fried noodle in Malay. I like this version of Mee Goreng a lot. It has great authentic flavor. My only complain is the lack of charring on the noodle (just like all other fried noodle dishes in my previous review). 3.5 Stars Laksa, one of Anthony Bourdain's favorite food, has many variations, based on the region. Asam Laksa is a version originated from Penang, which is widely regarded as the food mecca by Malaysians. BTW, Bourdain did a segment on this dish when he was in Malaysia. The taste is vastly different from other versions of laksas. It's spicy, sweet, and sour all rolled into a soupy noodle dish. There are several ingredients that provides its distinctive flavor - fish, pineapple, tamarind, lemongrass, and shrimp paste (think of it as a sweeter, less salty, and much thicker cousin of fish sauce). I really like this version of Asam laksa. Broth has depth of flavor. I could taste the various flavors in the broth, but not one flavor overpowers the others. Most importantly, it reminds me of my childhood. Of course, just like any authentic ethnic food, the taste might be a little too exotic for some taste buds....it took me the entire childhood to learn to appreciate this dish. 5 Stars Based on this meal, I bumped the over review to a 4 Stars. Perhaps I will return soon and give the other dishes another chance in near future. read more

Pretty upset with this place. They sent me 4 brochures in the mail so i figured that i would give them a try. My mistake, the general tso was squishy, very breaded and just not appetizing at all. Consistently delish food! We usually get it as take out so we can just eat at home. Our orders are always made very promptly and food is fresh and delicious. We love sweeter foods, and the honey walnut chicken is a fav, for sure! The sushi rolls we've ordered have been very good also! All of it was decent. I think there are probably some hits in their deep menu. I wish they had fewer items to focus on taste. The food was good but not great. It was actually $3.50. 3. The bag bottom was half-soaked with grease. 4. The hot&sour soup was okay. 5. The Hunan beef was sauce poured over beef and semi-warmed vegetables. 6. As mentioned within my prior (and only) review months ago on March 18th, I don't consider myself critical of the food that I eat except in rare cases where I will write extensively to unravel my frustration with a restaurant, as in the case of Beef 'O' Brady's. However, it's also atypical of me to distinguish a restaurant as exceptional given my lack of expertise in food critique. I find some degree of satisfaction with the majority of restaurants that I dine at, but many lack a special quality that that not only distinguishes it from the competition, but leaves a long-lasting favorable impression. Well, I am extremely fortunate to report that within two weeks of my atrocious experience at Beef 'O' Brady's, I found that exceptional restaurant right around the corner from my house, and I can safely affirm that it holds a safe spot as one of, if not my favorite restaurant of all time. Ever since its inception at the tail end of March, J's not only became my immediate destination for every form of Asian cuisine imaginable, but undeniably one of the most enjoyable and welcoming places to visit within the Johns Creek area. When I first dined in at this restaurant, I had the pleasure of being waited on by Sana, a frankly awesome person with a great sense of humor and knowledge base about the cuisine of the restaurant. He was willing to provide us with food samples we were interested in, such as the basil chicken, and exhibited an unwavering positive attitude the entire time. He is undoubtedly a standout and a great representation of the outstanding customer service and environment, but what's even more phenomenal is that these same qualities extend to virtually everyone working at the restaurant. Over the course of several visits thereafter, I've had the opportunity to meet with most of the people working there, exuberating friendliness and a sense of hospitality every time I step foot in the restaurant. I have never been to a restaurant where a large portion staff not only recognized me consistently, but demonstrated companionship towards me. I am very happy to have met such genuine people and look forward to future visits. The fact that I have raved about their customer service should be a testament to the atmosphere of J's Asian Cafe. So much so that I've only made a brief mention of the quality of the food served, but I can assure readers that it is additionally top-notch. J's Asian Cafe serves many types of Asian cuisine, including Chinese, Malaysian, Japanese, Thai, etc. In essence, the menu consists of staple dishes and items from the different cuisines that come together to create a varied selection of options for customers to choose from. I've tried many selections, ranging from the classic Mongolian Beef to the Stir-Fried Udon Noodles. Every meal that I have ordered is delectable, tasty, and optimal compared to other alternatives and keeps me coming back for more. The Mongolian Beef, for example, is tender and juicy, with care put towards the marinade that brings out the distinct flavor of the meat. Everything appears and tastes savor, and I've yet to be disappointed with any particular dish, regardless of whether I dined in or ordered take-out. One thing I feel must be commended, however, is the sushi bar. The sushi is up to par as expected, but the caliber of its aesthetics and presentation transcend that of other places I've gone to ear sushi. There is a delicacy to every roll crafted, and a blissful elegance that radiates from one before I even consume it. There are instances where the sushi looks so incredible that I forget that it's meant to be eaten. It's even better that there is an extensive range of sushi rolls to choose from, each with their own ingredients and embellishments ascertaining each roll as its own unique creation. It's even more impressive that only one sushi chef works behind the bar, and for him to deliver such a steady flow of delightful sushi should be commended. There is one other aspect of the restaurant that I would quickly like to run through. The interior design of the restaurant is breathtaking, with beautifully painted murals on the walls demonstrating different aspects of distinct Asian cultures. The booths are comfortable, and the layout of the main floor is easy to navigate. To put it simply, it's extremely elegant and gives off an aura of luxury. Composing every word of this review was surprisingly easy, due to my uncontainable infatuation for the restaurant. Delivering on every single front, J's Asian Cafe cements its place as a fine restaurant within the city of Johns Creek and wholly deserves the praise it receives. It's a place I'd like to eat at, converse at, or even work at; everything is of exceptional quality and deserves much more recognition as a standout destination for authentic Asian cuisine.
