This is a 4.5 star review I personally had a great experience here on a Groupon voucher ($45). I got a deep cleansing facial from Mia, who was lovely and personable. She described which treatments she was using for me and we made friendly conversation quite easily. She did explain some of the upsells for me, but I anticipated that, and she respected my no thank yous immediately. I enjoyed the facial. Mia was great at extractions: somehow both thorough and quick at the same time. I paid 20% for tip, but I wasn't pushed to do so. My only "complaint" was that the door was locked, so I stood outside for a few minutes, unsure if they were open, but someone came to let me in soon after. read more

Oh my goodness, let me tell you. Gigi gave me the most INCREDIBLE facial. I've been on tour for the past four years and have had many a facial all over the country. I mean this when I say this was probably the best facial I've had in years! If you stumbled upon this place and are questioning whether or not to go, you will not regret it. Gigi was seriously the best. From the warm steam and cleansing, to the massage, to the masks, extractions, it was all perfect. It was one of those experiences that was equally relaxing and at the same time I knew she was really getting in there and improving my face. Got this GroupOn experience from a friend for my birthday. Thought it would be a relaxing but it turned out to be one of the most un-relaxing experiences I have ever been at a spa. The woman who did my facial pushed hard from the second I lay in the bed, upselling the diamond peel, the level one level two microbrasion, and package deals. I got a headache after 1.5 hours. I decided to give up at the end and just pay for the next quote on quote machine sucking skin thingy. My total was $135 on top of whatever my friend paid. I gave a $20 tip because I felt bad, they were just trained to do their job, but like, owner of this shop - I know you will respond to my post - like what the fuck? This is not China, how about you train your staff to use your integrity instead of holding your new customers hostage, and make them buy your shit? The whole experience was just terrible. The woman left the room multiple times telling me, "I will give you a few seconds to think about it." She asked me if it was my first experience at the spa and proceeded to do way less. I've been looking for a new spa and decided to try JS Beauty since their Groupon for a deep cleansing facial was only $31 compared to regular price of $88. The location was ideal and just of Canal St. Super clean and still feels so new. The staff was friendly, attentive and offered me water . Gigi was my esthetician. She too was extremely friendly and courteous. She was quiet, gentle and allowed me relax with minimal talking as needed. Wasn't pushy on upgrades but offered me a hydro facial since I have dark spots. I kindly declined and she didn't push with other upgrade or products. I added a 25 min upper body massage while the mask treatment was on. My facial and massage were both amazing. 10 out of 10 for this spa. Booked another facial w/ Gigi in 3 weeks and will be looking forward to returning. read more

I came here wanting to find a spot that could be my new regular. Unfortunately while the facial was good the bedside manners of their facialists were beyond lacking & rude. They started by telling me my skin was so bad that the regular deep cleanse facial is NOT appropriate. It was a repeated hard sell to buy they collagen upgrade, which I refused. I am sensitive to heavy chemicals and came just for a pure extraction. I don't know how they are incentivized but the rudeness of these people was consistent. I was with my sisters and they too were given same script and were forced into some collagen upgrade. It's really too bad since the space was clean and I would have loved to buy a package and be a regular but their tactics were disgusting and it made the visit not relaxing. This seems to be consistent to other people's experience. Management should probably re-evaluate what their tactics are. While you can hook someone in and scam someone into an upgrade during their first visit, I doubt you'll get many repeat customers. read more

The staff was very friendly and the location is easy to find--- it's right in the heart of Chinatown/Little Italy so I made an afternoon out of it and walked around the neighborhood. Have been going here for many years, and their new location is beautifully renovated. Over the years, I've tried many facial spas and this is the only place where I get consistently good service. The other places I've been have always been underwhelming and leave me with scarring for a few weeks after. Mia has been taking care of my face for 5 years and I plan to keep going here as long as she's working here! Like any less expensive Chinatown spa, they do rely on some upsells in services. But I've never felt like it's been pushed on me more than any other place. If they ask you if you want a service, just make sure there's no fee- as long as you don't assume everything is included, you'll be fine. read more

Briefly responded for the owner's rude response, "my friend" brought several of our mutual friends to come for the "promised discount" facial experiences (4 ppl in total) for the past few months. They were all being overcharged and had uncomfortable experiences. They never came back, I asked them after this horrifying experience, details see below**** DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE! ITS A SCAM! If I could give them negative stars I would. When I first came, they told me the treatment was a discounted price of $40+, but in the end they charged me three times the amount originally quoted. During the treatment, the lady repeatedly asked me to purchase their $109+ deal, even after I declined multiple times. She continuously asked me about my private life and then made rude comments about it. The whole experience was extremely uncomfortable. The worst part was during the facial, she kept pushing me to buy their special "promotion" all the while holding a needle against my face. The whole process was very unsatisfactory and uncomfortable. I also requested to have an application of sunscreen on afterwards and they all just ignored me!! In the end, they charged me $110+ for the treatment and forced me to pay the 20% tip for this horrible experience. I'm shocked this kind of place still exists in New York. read more

During my actual facial, when I was relaxing and partially zoned out, the woman started explaining the diamond facial. I've been here twice now, after discovering them through Groupon for a back facial treatment, which is rare to find in most spas. First, I've gotta say that I love this place and it would prompt them 5 stars for service, if only they weren't so dang salesy at almost every chance they get. Mia worked on my back twice and she's very knowledgable about skincare, along with her boss, and they both give very honest feedback and skincare tips. I've gotten the back facial and the Diamond Peel Back Treatment (which is just a microdermabrasion-like tube that is used to remove dead skin cells and pores). It is a bit pricey ($138), but they gave me a 20% discount to entice me to come back. The Diamond Peel Back Treatment felt great and the back facial, although very similar to a basic facial, has always been nice and relaxing. This time around, they had the nerve to sit me down for 10 uncomfortable minutes to sell me a $550 package of 5 back facials and a free facial. It's a great deal but for someone like me who rarely goes in for facials, it's too much of a obligation to know that I'll have to use those up (even though they never expire). So much buying pressure, but you'll get great treatment service and a very relaxing experience, but be aware that you will be hit with a lot of hard sales by the time you're ready to walk out the door. read more

So when your best friend randomly texts you about a facial she bought for you, you have to go get this facial. Even if you don't typically get facials. JS Beauty Spa is located on a 2nd floor somewhat shady walkup but it's interior is perfectly spa-like. After checking you in, the estheticians ALWAYS start off by asking if you need to use the bathroom and if you want water. Combined with their not so perfect English, the questions come off a little awkward. But they mean well. You are then guided to a little room where you are then asked to change into a weird towel looking top. Keep your pants on. Then slide between the sheets. If you're a germaphobe, those sheets and blankets are most definitely not washed or changed between customers. Just embrace it. Then she gently washes your face and examines your skin with super bright light. And she will trash talk your skin. And she will tell you need a more expensive treatment today. Maybe you do. Maybe you don't. She will then continue to wash your face while steaming your face. She will also massage your face and shoulders; just keep in mind theyre not a masseuse. Shortly after is when the pain starts and she will start poking and scratching away. And then some weird device with a loud ZZZZZZ sound. I actually wouldve really appreciated it if she had told me what she was about to do. Because putting a tool on my face that sounds like a saw wasn't very pleasing. And then you end with a mask. And by mask i mean your face is wrapped with plastic wrap by Kirklands (Costco). So no, not relaxing or high end. But for the price, it gets the job done. Don't come before a party. Come 2-3 days before. Because you will walk out looking shittier than when you came in. But once the inflammation resolves, you'll love your face more than you ever did. read more

I went to JS today after getting a Groupon and I cannot explain to you how DISGUSTED I am by this place! The lady who was doing my facial sneezed on her hand twice and touched my face. I freaked out and as this was within the first 5 minutes my whole mood was ruined. I told her to wash her hands with soap and she said thank you. She did not understand any English I asked for the owner and I told her i wanted a refund and she said since I got this through Groupon I can't get a refund. The owner told me she would do the facial for me. By this time I'm so unhappy, I feel disgusted and I'm mortified. I did not enjoy the experience. Found this gem on yelp, was looking for a clean simple spa to get a facial.The spa is located on the second floor and I've pass the area multiple times without noticing that a spa was above. The minute I stepped in, I was greeted by the friendly staff and taken to separate room for my facial. I originally schedule myself for a regular facial with extractions but end up upgrading to a diamond peel treatment facial. I'm one of those people that get very annoy at spa's who try to push on more add in. But Debbie assess my skin prior to treatment and recommended the diamond peel treatment because my main concern was extraction and I love that she was very informative without being pushy. The decision was left to me without any pressure. Debbie really clean my face and extracted a lot of white heads and black heads I had accumulated. It was painless for the most part, I did have some small scabbing but once that heal my skin was great. I brought another facial prior to leaving and plan to go back soon. My favorite part of the spa is that they have really good air ventilation, the minute I walk in to the minute I left, the air was fresh and clean and that itself just made me very relax and my experience so much better. The experience was great and I immediate purchase the second facial which was a diamond facial ( deep cleaning service + exfoliating) Be prepared that you face will look a bit "terrible" right after. I honestly yelp this establishment before I purchased the groupon. The groupon was for a deep cleansing facial. Unfortunately I did not receive the same "good service" as other yelpers have mentioned:-( First: I called JS 4x in a row to schedule and appt only to have someone pick up the phone each time and not say anything and then hang up on me. They don't have an up and running website where you can do it online, so I had to risk being a walk-in because I was unable to make an appointment. Second: The lady that did my facial pushed hard for the diamond peel upgrade. I went on and added it. Since she insisted I needed it. Having Cystic Acne, I trusted her opinion because she "the expert". Third: When I didn't reschedule for another facial w/them after being pushed to buy more facials while my facial was being performed and at the register. The lady yells at me in a rude tone as I'm leaving that I need to drink more water. Little does she know I drink a gallon of water a day... anyhow it was very unprofessional. Lastly, during the facial I still felt soreness from one of my pimples and I asked her about it. She assured me that she had gotten all the abstraction out. When I got home later that evening and washed my face. I noticed 7 pimples that still had the pus in them..?? I was able to get it out myself, but I paid them to do that for me! I have had facials before along w/the abstraction and never left feeling sore faced, nor were there still puss filled pimples on my face! I'm soo glad I didn't get suckered into buying more facials. While the people here seem nice, there is such a huge language barrier, that it really takes away from the overall experience. I purchased a deep cleansing facial on Groupon. During the facial, I had asked if she had a tissue-- but she was unable to provide one because she didn't understand me. I also found it difficult to breathe during the cleansing process (the lotion totally gets in your nose), so I asked for a quick break (so I could go run and grab MYSELF a tissue), but she didn't understand, so she kept going. I also asked that she pay particular attention to one part of my face, but once again, she was unable to understand me. This happened multiple times throughout facial, so I just gave up and tried to wait it out. However, she somehow knew enough English to ask me if I wanted to upgrade my process 3 times! Naturally, they pressure you into tipping a certain amount at the end of your process. I complied just so I could get out of there faster. read more

Really confused, that's my impression. I called to request a last minute walk in because I had found their place at Groupon. They agreed on seen me and also told me not purchase the Groupon and do it at the location. I came in and was treated with so much politeness. At the beginning of the facial the lady told me I had lots of blackheads and I'm better off with microdermabrasion. She told me it was 98$. Ok, I thought it was pricey compared to many other places I've gone to. But it was doable? I accepted. Extraction time was the most painful I've received in all my history of facials. I felt that she was pinching my skin with her fingers instead of a tool. I tried to looked over with my semi opened eye. She asked me if it was painful which I said yes! And she said can you take more? I said I prefer not to, but she said : "beauty is pain" I rolled my eyes Mask time! She told me my skin needs an acne mask instead and if I wanted it...ehmmmm I thought are you kidding me? Isn't is already included? Of course that's additional...I said no this time. Just use the mask included. She then quickly spread a layer of something on my face and put ceramic plastic on top of it. The applying proceeds was no more than 1 minute. Then waited 15 mins. Couldn't go back to nap because clients were loud outside and I was stutter with the cheap mask she did. When the whole thriller was over and it was pay time...to my surprise it turned out to be 31+98$= 129$ plus tax. Definitely NOT just $98. Way more than I intended to pay! That was a slick move, maybe I partake some fault. Her tone of voice was so soft and polite though...like she knew but didn't care. I have been going here quite frequently due to a package. They may have given the most amazing facialist at the beginning. But now, unfortunatley they are all over the place. One time I was left under the steam for 30m minutes and another I was left at the end with a mask for 25 minutes. Unfortunately I didn't have a positive experience with Sammie. I have gotten facials at the salon before by other individuals and they were very polite and sweet. I requested to have my facial done this time by Sammie because I wanted to try someone different. Everyone else has been lovely. I had a couple of swollen zits ( time of the month ) so I asked Sammie if she can please not perform extractions on those zits and to please be gentle as I tend to scar after extractions. I was not rude about it at all but she responded in a very rude way , saying well then why did you come here if you don't want extractions. Well Sammie, I went there to get a facial and how I prefer to have my extractions is solely up to me. To be very honest with you, I've had facials by Joyce, Mia and another person and they were all sweet . Truth be told , after Sammie examined my skin she stated I should get the diamond peel I politely declined. I think that's when her nasty attitude came out. Sammie needs to calm the f down. Just cause you own the salon doesn't mean sht if you don't take your clients requests into consideration. When I got changed and left the room , Sammie asked if I wanted to schedule another appointment I said yes she then says " it won't be with me ". I wanted to tell her go fuck yourself -your little ego got hurt when I declined the peel" which is why she doesn't want me as a client. And simply because I asked her to please be gentle with extractions. Are you kidding me? How rude is that . Horrible customer service. My friend and I came to this beauty spa because of a Groupon we got. Reservations need to be made in advance. Upon first impression, the staff weren't too friendly/professional. There was one lady who was extremely tight lipped and not nice. We told to type our contact information into the notes app on an iPad, which was super ghetto. The not so nice lady ended up doing my facial, and I found out later that she was the boss of the place. She brought me to the room and asked me to put on this sleeveless smock thing that they have. During my facial, she spent like 2 minutes on extractions, and moved on right away. I'm curious as to the quality of the products that this place uses, because after the facial my face started breaking out like crazy. She didn't ask me for my skin type, and just started slathering things on. After the facial, my friend came out and the worker was trying to convince her to do a face peel (what?) Mia is my go-to girl here for facials and she is a gem! Gentle hands, sweet, great at extractions (no pain and gets all the gunk out), makes my face clean and gives the best facial massages. I always leave feeling refreshed! I found this place through Groupon last year and have bought the deep cleansing facial package deals twice now (5 facials for $31/each). Well worth the money and a great deal at that! The inside is clean and zen, especially given the fact that it's located on the Bowery. And while it's not swanky, you do get your own private room. Make an early appointment to avoid noise from the waiting area seeping in during your appointment. I get to listen to zen music when I'm here and always doze off. And don't feel pressured or take offense if they try to suggest other facial treatments that are pricier - I politely tell them that I'll consider the other treatments for future visits - these ladies are very nice and understand. I've been a loyal patron for quite sometime now. I found this through Groupon and bought a few packages. Usually I have a good experience however my facial today was torturous. My facial specialist was Mei, someone who I've never had before. There was a very difficult language barrier. Having immigrant parents myself, I'm typically patient and try my best but this time was very difficult. The entire time she was attempting to up-sell me the diamond peel and getting my eyebrows and eyeliner tattooed. From being there an hour and a half, I didn't understand anything she asked but I did in fact understand her multiple attempts telling me to buy the diamond peel, eyebrow and eyeliner tattoo. Not only was the up-sell annoying but the extractions were the most painful that I've ever gotten. Mei literally was beating my face up. I asked her to be gentle and said said okay but still proceeded to be rough. I also told her that I had eyelash extensions so to be careful near my eyes and I don't want anything on or around them. Well, again... the language barrier issue occurred. After she put the green mask all over my face, she aggressively wiped my face and my eyes and was pulling my eyelashes. Now after maybe the 5th attempt, I told her not to touch my eye area. Overall, after I use up my package I'll most likely take my business elsewhere. A message to the owner, please train your staff to sell your up-sell more casually and not so forceful. Every time I've gone, it's always an up sell. Getting a facial is a treat and luxury for me.
