Being new to Porterville after living in San Diego has been a challenge. Yes the heat is maddening but finding a good burger in a new town is just as hard as tracking down a great auto mechanic. I have reviewed another burger joint here in Porterville and have given it top stars but I found J's on my way home after I spotted cars in the drive thru and a big J on the building. Good sign. So my dog and I turned into the shopping center and drove into the lane for ordering. I was driving. She was shotgun. I spotted a cheeseburger for $8.99 and had promised myself not to buy French fries and stick to eating healthy with the lettuce, tomato and protein from the cheeseburger. Wink. So when the mesmerizing and enticing drive thru voice asked me if I wanted french fries with my order, I immediately said no thank you. HOWEVER, I then spotted the SPECIALS sign which had cheeseburger, french fries and drink for the same price. I'd like to say at this time that it was J's fault for having that combo special on their menu that forced me to eat their fantastic fries. It also comes with a drink which I couldn't believe so I truly made the drive thru staff completely confused when I kept changing my order. IN ANY CASE, I was home within minutes and even had time to take pictures before I dove into drive thru deliciousness. Yum yum yum. I'm looking so forward to trying their recommended chicken tenders special. There is a special place in San Diego that has the best chicken tenders I've ever had (Lefty's pizzeria on 30th). I've even reviewed it. Let's see how Porterville holds up to the chicken tender taste test. Can't wait. read more

They have a wide variety of food. We were really excited to try it. I got the wing dinner, and my kids got the chicken strip dinners. I also got an horchata and a banana split. The food is hot, the sings were slightly over cooked yet still very juicy. I wasn't a big fan of the taste. They tasted a little old to me despite the juiciness and the crisps outside. The chicken strips and mozzarella sticks were good. Great cheese pull. They could have used a little seasoning though. Now the ranch was very strange, it tasted like ice cream and I'm not sure why. So we didn't get to try our salads yet. Horchata was good, my son said his banana split was good. The bread was good but it could use a little garlic butter. Over all ok experience. Wanted some fish and fries and remember the fish basket here from a previous order. Although they weren't pretty they were really good so I was shocked when I received my order and it was completely different fish. Previously the fish in the fish and fries basket were wedge shaped planks that were thick and you got quite a few so it was very feeling. This time the fish was much prettier looking but was thinner and you definitely didn't get as much fish as before. It was crispy and cooked well and I think I would've liked it much better if it's what I would've been expecting but sure didn't know that they had changed the menu until I receive the food. Fries were OK they could've used a little more seasoning or salt. They should change their photo of the fish basket since it has changed so much though you can see from the photos I've submitted that I have an older photo of what the fish used to look like. This is near my job and summers make me think of the twisty ice cream in a cup with hot French fries (no I am not pregnant just fat). The prices seemed to have held basically steady which makes me happy. The rest of the reasonable sized menu is burgers and fried foods. Solid fast food options not the healthiest. My issue is the wait, if there is more than one in the drive thru i skip due to the time. Could I get out of my car and walk in sure but I am fat and it is summer. read more

There is a gal who makes the most amazing ice cream cones..they are to the perfect size you order..the really cool part is they look PERFECT! Symmetrically and with the swirl on top! Of course their ice cream is the best I have tasted in town.. We also ordered the Deluxe Burger 2for $7.99. they were cheaper not to long ago and most the time super good. This place is delicious! Try the cali club it's a family favorite. It's super filling, the girls are very nice at the front and walking in it feels clean. The service is timely considering what you order, the strawberry milkshake is delicious! THEY HAVE CRUSHED ICE THE GOOD KIND!!! And vanilla to add to your soda, I chose Pepsi absolutely delicious My only recommendation is the soda area does need to be clean. It's sticky. I completely understand that it's because of the customers. But still this place is definitely worth the try, the wings are crispy and spicy in a good way and the fries are seasoned wavy fries. read more

This is where you come when you want different fast "food" (Sysco crap) fried stuff. I went here for a simple chicken strip and fries meal $9 it was all hot and came as expected. It is slow because they don't have things pre cooked like fast food but it tasted ok. There's many other places similar to this in town I would highly suggest that these people try The Vault if you want the best burger in town. One thing I don't like about this place is for months and months now they have also left a large amount of trash and broken down machines out front and it also makes the store look closed or at least trashy and uncaring. read more

Maximo said his Pastrami was excellent! We both ate for $17.95. Max had his upsized to large and received a "ridiculous" amount of fries, but that didn't stop him from finishing them. The service has greatly improved. One of the girls that's almost always there memorized our order and has gone out of her way on multiple occasions to make sure everything was perfect for us. Sometimes the drive thru wait can be a bit much but they don't start anything until you order so you know you aren't getting something that has been sitting under a warming lamp for hours. Food is good but..... the restaurant is absolutely disgusting! The restrooms have so much build up on the floors and walls like they haven't been deep cleaned since they opened. No paper towels and instead of filling up the soap dispenser they poured some soap in a foam cup for customers to use. The drive thru seems convenient, but every time I have gone I have waited to get my food for 7-15 minutes (even for just one burger!) My latest experience has made me sure that I will never go back. At the order screen I asked if I could have my burgers lettuce wrapped, the girl said yes, I then ordered their 2 for $4 deal When I arrived at the window the gal working asked for $6:50 I asked if there was an extra charge for lettuce wrap, and she said there was. Awesome little burger joint. Very comparable to super burger. They even have hamburger sauce and vanilla and cherry flavoring for sodas. I got the #4 which was delicious and I think their burgers are definitely better than super burgers. Their milkshakes are also huge! A 32 oz for under $4. Staff was also friendly and I waited less than 5 minutes for my food. Will definitely be returning! read more
