I'm not sure how many people are like me, never needing to visit a barber while they were growing up. My dad cut my hair until I graduated college, and after that I went to places where I would spend twenty or thirty bucks for a decent haircut. Even if I didn't like it, I knew it would just grow back so I'd ask myself what the point in spending extra money was? Well, I decided to take my hair more seriously because over the next year, I plan on going on some trips and getting engaged so I knew I needed a good barber to look somewhat decent. I found just what I needed with JT Looks. Finding JT's place was easy, his Yelp page just screams 'Hey I'm good at my job and people like what I do'. After visiting him, I can say without a doubt that JT is the best barber I have ever met and that he will probably be THE best barber I will ever meet. My opinion of him and his haircut is exactly as I'd expect from a five star barber. As a person, he is just an amazing guy. He honestly loves what he does, takes it very seriously, and is extremely good at it. I enjoyed the whole haircut and JT took the time to make sure I felt comfortable while teaching me what I needed to know about my hair and hair in general. Out the gate, he introduced himself and made me laugh a few times. You can tell that he's the kind of guy you could go visit and he'd always show you a good time. I didn't have what to go for in mind when I walked in, so JT took the time to help me find a style I'd like. He asked me a number of questions about what I wanted and takes everything into account before he cuts. As for the haircut, he nailed it.. For the sides, it's extremely clean and it's sick seeing the depth to my hair depending on the angle you look at it. For the top, it's so layered and smooth when I slide my fingers through that it's weird/crazy working with it. For the styling, that's a work in progress. I walked out looking good but my hair was very plain before I came in, as one would expect getting dad haircuts throughout their childhood, and I imagine it's going to take two or three appointments before I can actually 'transition' into a nicer hairstyle that suits me. He set some goals and some 'seeds' that will take time to grow out, and gave me advice to follow until my next appointment in 5-6 weeks. JT is the best barber I've been to! He's incredibly passionate about his craft and about fashion in general, and is knowledgeable as well, fitting in tid bits of information throughout the cut and the hair washing process. Apart from educating about my natural hairline and about why he's cutting my hair the way he is, he also explained how to maintain and style my hair after the haircut, something few barbers have done for me. He is knowledgeable specifically on asian hair and how it grows weeks after the haircut, and cuts appropriately so it looks good for maximal time after the haircut, somethingI also looked for in a barber. With regards to salon itself, it has comforting background music, a TV with shows to keep you occupied in the case you're tired and just want to relax, and he also offers wide variety of beverages. The hair wash is thorough as well and an overall relaxing experience. I would highly recommend JT to anybody looking for a new barber, and he will be the person I go to from now on for my haircuts when he's not booked (he is booked out months in advance for a reason!). Was looking to change my hairstyle and after much thought, I wanted to give JT a try! Jimmy is a super-friendly person who is awesome at styling and cutting hair. I knew coming in that the style I wanted wasn't achievable yet because of the length of my hair but he worked out a solution to transition it to something I want. His shop currently is located inside Phenix Salon Suites. As soon as you walk in there is a directory on the right-hand side, but his office should be a left turn and then straight down on the left side near the end of the building, suite 118. The private shop is clean, a drink is provided, and he'll turn on your favorite show. Also, there will be shampoo service and hot towel during your visit which is included in the price. For the price you pay, it is more than fair as Jimmy works hard to achieve what you want. The haircut turned out great with Jimmy giving me additional tips on how to style hair which I have never really done. You can really tell that he is passionate about hair and styling and really takes his time with each customer. Jimmy absolutely deserves all the 5-star ratings you see. I was in a panic because I hadn't found a new barber/salon after moving and my friend's wedding was just a few days away. With all of the review for Jimmy, I really wanted to have him work on my hair. After texting him about my situation, he kept me updated on any cancellations and I was able to snag a slot just two days before my friend's wedding. We played it safe with a simple undercut since I had the wedding coming up. Even being "simple," Jimmy paid such close attention to every minute detail and gave such an executive experience. Haircut, shampoo, further trim, and a back massage?! Truly different and above and beyond from what I was used to. During that first visit he also said that he'd try something different with my hair on the next visit to better work with my head structure. I like the fact that he was honest with me and said that my hair doesn't have the same density as the model's but that he thought we could get pretty close. He offers nuggets of wisdom throughout the process on how to maintain, style, and optimize your hair to best compliment your unique look. He also goes beyond just the cut. He ensures that it's a good customer experience from the moment of arrival to the moment you exit. i.e his very sanitary practices.
