The food and drink menu has a lot of variety. One waitress served our party of 12, and it took over an hour for some of us to get our food and cocktail orders. She was overwhelmed, and so were the chef and bartender. The ground beef was dry on my Ultimate Nachos order. Throwing salsa over it did not help much. The cut of beef was definitely not a Prime or Choice, which are juicier; and I could barely taste the alcohol in my Hennessy Colada. The drink was watered down, lacking flavor. The food and drink in this Albany, NY restaurant rivals NYC prices. For example, it costs $16.99 for 10 wings. I sampled one, and it had a sparse amount of Buffalo sauce. Another example: It cost me $18.99 for the Ultimate Nachos with ground beef, and the beef tasted low grade--not prime or choice. We sat outside on Karaoke night. Maybe that is why our orders took so long. Nevertheless, singers had a lot of fun, and listeners gave some good laughs. Our bill automatically included an 18% gratuity, which is fine, but a verbal warning should have been given. The waitress was very sweet, however the service of her support staff was less than satisfactory. It took an hour to get a meal cooked correctly, and even then it still wasn't up to par. Drinks are watered down and taste like wet rag, burgers are $17 for a frozen patty which staff can't cook right. I was told my "well done" burger came back "rare" because they use temperature gages and are unable to tell how well it's cooked. Makes no sense as the temperature is what determines how it's cooked. It's also freezing cold inside; I was shivering for the hour I was there waiting for my food. If you're looking for a good meal and drink, skip this place. It's clear the positive reviews are from employees, bots or people that have no standard. I would never return! read more

I already have a favorite karaoke bar in the area, and this isn't it. But when I feel the need to switch things up I have been known to visit Maxies. The food is good, and the Shirley temples are alright. The sound system for karaoke is extremely subpar however they are open later than most places in the area and they have a large smoker friendly patio area. So that's my review. Now onto my story... Once I took a large piece of "weed candy" from some guy here because "all my friends were doing it". I ended up hardcore puking on the floor in front of security and peeing my pants simultaneously. No, I wasn't drunk as I don't drink(tho I'm sure they thought I was), but I also don't do drugs and I was dumb enough to do this sooo..... maybe don't take any candy from strangers? Hugs are better than drugs? I'm 100% there is a lesson to be learned here. So yeah, it's a decent joint but stick to the menu. read more

Maxies is a Colonie Bar where 75% of the patrons are Colonie High grads, from newly 21 year olds to seniors, there is a mix of everyone. The place is slightly divey, a chill atmosphere, home town bar. Service is OK, you may have to wait for drinks if they are chatting with a regular. The drinks are cheap, the patio is nice, the karaoke is horrible lol. (the lady working the karaoke was very nice, though). Honestly, this is a good place to come and get drunk and be close to home. I have eaten here a few times, but drank here many more. The best thing is their kitchen stays open the whole night so if you find yourself needing some french fries after 8 beers and 2 shots, you came to the right place. if you just want to relax and have a beer on Wolf Road, I don't think this is a bad choice. First time, looks a bit worn but inviting. My coworkers and I sat outside for dinner. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We ordered appetizers- the calamari were my favorite. It's a must have!! The sampler was ok. I ordered for entree the ribs and wings with a side of fries. Ribs were super soft and not dried. Too heavy on the bbq sauce. Wings were only the drummies. Not sure how this place survives in the land of valuable real estate! Appetizers of potato skins, cheesy fries and chicken fingers took forever. They were ok. The skins were lightly stuffed with cheese and bacon, but tasty as they were fried. Dinner was a side salad, which was plentiful with great lettuce, tomato, cukes, a cheeseburger, a hamburger with no bun and a Reuben. They sent a roast beef club instead of a Reuben. When I finally got the Reuben the meat was brown (like the roast beef?) not pink like corned beef should be. No flavor, just over cooked mystery meat. Very unappetizing at that point. Service was slow, although there were several employees working. The food took longer than expected to come out. We ordered parmesean fried chicken wings, chili and a plate of nachos cheese chips. I received an order of wings from this place. I guess the cook was drunk or so accustom to feeding drunks that he or she did not realize that dry, tasteless wings are not for everyone. They have the strangest door policy. Everyone is to be carded 18 and up, unless you know someone that works there, or look over 50. Let me play advocate for a moment. My friend James, bad day at work. Known him 20 years but he is on edge. Security stops him to check ID, but he is your friend you say no just let James in. 2 drinks later James flips out and starts shooting up the place. Security is now working backwards to stop James from firing the 5th bullet. When the policy on the door says "everyone 18 and over must show ID". As a policy maker the reason for policies is to prevent issues from happening, not to make people uncomfortable or make your friend or acquaintances feel important when they don't have to follow the policy it is for protection of the establishment being run. Changing policies to suit a whim makes for an unstable environment. The reason for security and checks is to make the place safe to enjoy. Everyone in the establishment from the patrons, to the managing staff should be held to the policy set by the sign on the door that J T Maxie's has put in place as a policy. Spent the night in Albany on a Sunday to catch a very early Monday flight back home to the West Coast. My wife and I saw this place from the street, it looked inviting so we decided to check it out. I am so glad we did! This place has some glass garage door style doors that open up and let in fresh air. The evening temps were mild with a slight drizzle and the doors open really made for a cool vibe. NFL games on the TVs, the bar was busy at 6:30pm but it was not packed. The whole waitstaff was friendly and fun; we hade the pleasure of sitting at the bar while Alana was bartending. She is great! I would 10 out of 10 recommend her. She was funny, super attentive and offered some great suggestions when I asked what people like to eat there. Got 10 buffalo wings medium, the spiciness was medium just like she said (HAHA) and then the wife and I shared a beef dip. Yes it was bar food but it was good bar food and the presentation was great. I don't know if my travels will take me back to Albany NY, but if so, I will stop back at JT Maxies for sure. So much fun, we even got photobombed when we took a pic. read more

This was our first time visiting. I don't usually write reviews but I just had to for tonight. 1st off our waitress took forever to come to our table & then took 3x as long to bring our drinks to us. My wine glass had a giant smudge of brown junk on the under part of the base of the stem. My daughters lemonade tasted like a lemon squeezed into water. Our appetizers took more than 40 minutes to get to us and the $14 calamari appetizer was a wimpy, maybe 10 pieces of actual calamari?!! $14!?!? WTF Our main food took so much longer to get that my children were walking to the giant bowl of free mints, to hold their hunger. Once food arrived: my husbands burger was way over cooked, my quesadillas were lacking in flavor & came w no side, and my one daughters food arrived almost 10 mins later, sub par. Our waitress was also sub par & never brought the waters for my husband and I after we finished our alcohol drink. She seemed nervous; or shaky her entire time serving us.
