This is a hard one to write. I've enjoyed TJ's for a long time, but this morning the food was waaaaay off. I ordered buttermilk pancakes and some sides. Apparently the flattop was too hot because the pancakes were blackened to the point of being slightly bitter and the insides were gummy. I don't know if they have new cooks or just weren't paying attention. The place was not as crowded as it used to be, so maybe my experience is not an outlier. I hope they get their act back together. This was the best lunch I have had in a long time! I happened upon this place because it was in the same shopping center as my Appointment. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in to find that even though the place is very stark on the outside the diner inside was very pleasant and inviting. I was greeted right away and was seated quickly. I like beef but most dishes have a bit more bread than I like. So when I saw this steak salad listed I knew I had to try it. Let me tell you this salad had such a complex flavor profile! From the diced apple, blue cheese crumble to the crunchy onions that were further complemented by the juice from the steak this is not a boring salad. I will be stopping by here more often. Just had the most delicious eggs Benedict's I've ever had - it wasn't unique in any way it was just perfect! Every component was done just right, the right amount of everything, it all stayed together. I'm not kidding it was a 10/10 - no notes!! The service was excellent! This is a really good place and has that hometown Mom & Pop feel to it. Came here with my uncle and his girlfriend before she headed back to Los Angeles and ai headed back to Phoenix. The place was hopping but well ran and very efficient. The staff here is very friendly, always smiling, and quick with a laugh or joke. The food is DELICIOUS!!! I had the Chilequiles and fresh fruit. Uncle had an omelette, his girlfriend had eggs, bacon, and country potatoes, and we all split a strawberry-covered pancake. They sell funny signs too if you want a fun souvenir to take home. I'll get one the next time I am there to eat. We all said we will gladly return, as we really enjoyed the place and loved the food, plus we got to talk to the owner as we were heading out. Such a nice place to be. The management sponsored our little league team for the season and had the place set up for us on the last day of season. The service was above and beyond and the food options were very open. The food was all good and the boys seemed to love the food they got. They really took care of us and that is a reason for me and the family to keep coming back. The food and service is a huge plus, but they also look after their community. Everyone that I have brought to have breakfast here can't believe what an amazing place this is and today, I brought a friend visiting from SF who is in the restaurant industry and was crazy in love with the salsa that she wanted to buy a bottle (sadly, was told there is not a retail product version available to purchase). She too was gushing over how great the staff is!
