Located somewhat off the beaten path of the Convoy district tucked in between a couple other Asian restaurants. The space is decent size with plenty of tables with service available at the sushi bar as well. The staff were friendly and attentive. We came in for lunch and ordered the chicken katsu curry rice. The chicken was fried perfectly, golden and crispy on the outside with juicy meat inside, sliced and laid right over the curry. The sauce itself had great depth, not too thick, not too sweet. The miso soup that came with it was really good as well. A light broth with mushrooms and green onion. Nothing heavy, just a perfect complement to the richness of the curry. The menu has other intriguing options, so I'll definitely be back to try the sushi and other dishes.

OK EXPERIENCE (3.4 stars) Maybe it's just me. Or the day I came. Or maybe it was the food. Came in for lunch and left thinking the roll was greater than the nigiri. i didn't realize until after I left that I felt I shouldn't have been charged for an item I felt kind of obligated to eat and not part of the order. ORDER - one ishedai nigri (two salmon nigiri) - edamame with salt - Quarantine roll EXPERIENCE. I asked the serve to scratch the salmon nigiri because u decided on the roll instead. The server took it off, told the chef upfront before he even made any item, and that was that. I changed my mind of a nigiri order at the very beginning before any food came out, two orders already served to me and the nigiri came out and mentioned I didn't order this, the chef looked at the server and the server reconfirmed, and the chef still gave it to me and said "ok well here you go! I already made it." (I took that as a complimentary item because I honestly didn't really want it). But when I got home I checked the receipt and was charged for it. So if there was miscommunication between server and chef, the customer will get charged for that. Example, what if I didn't order a bento box but it got delivered and since it was already made gave it to me (but didn't want it) and then get charged for it. That's my take away from this place. FOOD. EDAMAME - typical. I liked how the edamame had structure - not overly boiled or steamed. The maldon salt is a nice touch; one of the pieces was so big I thought it was a piece of plastic. ISHEDAI NIGIRI - first time trying this. The texture of the fish is firm and the profile of the cut was lightly sweet. RECOMMEND SALMON NIGIRI - something about their salmon here was off. Ive had many salmon nigiri's and it's usually one of my safe choices but I didn't like the taste of their salmon here - wasn't as fresh as I know this fish can be. QUARANTINE ROLL - poached shrimp, real crab salad and cucumber. Topped with tuna, yellowtail, lemon slices, chives, and garlic aioli. This roll was really good! I took more than half of it home and refrigerate it for afternoon bites and it was still very good - the taste held up. The rice didn't get hard, the fish was fine, and the creamy sauce didn't liquify. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Until the next review...

The food and service is absolutely phenomenal. Very high quality ingredients and attentive staff, who made me feel very welcome as a solo diner. I'd ordered the yellowtail crudo and the salmon nigiri, which I got seared, and the pot de crème for dessert - each dish far exceeded my expectations. Not only was the crudo beautifully plated, but the garnishes paired wonderfully with the fresh fish. At first, I thought I'd accidentally ordered the salmon belly rather than the regular salmon because of how savory the slices were - they simply MELTED in my mouth. Plus, the rice was cooked perfectly, which I especially appreciated due to the frequency of soggy rice I've encountered lately. I was a little skeptical of the pot de crème because of the description, but I'm very glad I tried it. The flavors were subtle, not overly sweet, and not too heavy either. The custard seemed more like a mousse, and though I prefer my custard to have a firmer texture, I still enjoyed every bite. I'm not sure how I feel about the candied bacon, but points for creativity. I'm astounded at how empty the place was during peak dinner hour. I can't wait to return next time I'm craving a quality meal.

Food My frost time trying this place and everything was so delicious. The quality of the seafood was fresh and the price is affordable and comparable to other sushi restaurants. Service Service is nice. They continue to check up on you. Our server noticed right away that our bill was wrong. He was very kind about it and readjusted it quickly. Ambience Plenty of seating for individuals and groups! The restaurant itself is very clean. The parking lot is limited though as the plaza is small and only contains restaurants so street parking may be the way to go

Even though it's been over a year since my visit, this omakase still lives rent-free in my head--and that says everything. Every course was exceptionally fresh, thoughtfully composed, and downright delicious. The progression was beautifully paced and surprisingly filling (you will not leave hungry, trust). The uni and caviar courses? Absolute show-stoppers--luxurious, briny, and genuinely tear-inducing in the best way. Every bite felt intentional and aesthetically stunning without trying too hard. Service was warm, attentive, and seamless, elevating the entire experience without ever feeling intrusive. This is the kind of omakase that reminds you why you splurge in the first place. Highly recommend. Would return in a heartbeat.

Small and cozy. We ordered off of their HH menu and regular menu. Service was attentive. The sake flight was smooth. Oysters were fresh! Everything else was good, but for what we paid; I'd would have preferred other local places. Glad I got to try it. I probably would return to have the omakase over the regular menu.

One of the best sushi bars in town. I came in for Omakase and didn't realize they only do that on Sundays. The chef was amazing and did a custom Omakase for us. One of the best I've ever had. They have very high end fish you don't see at a lot of suburban bars and A5 Wagyu.

We've been here twice now. Love the intimacy of the sushi bar, excellent service both times. The first time we went we had a variety of fish (mostly dealers choice), clam miso soup was amazing, and a snow crab small rice dish. We loved it so much we went back a few months later for their Sunday tasting menu. What a treat! An intimate setting with the restaurant staff. It was a large tasting menu with a variety of food, tapas, pasta, sashimi, fry break, nigiri, and much more. We had a great time tasting through the menu and did the sake pairing as well. I highly recommend this experience and we will be back!

Was craving some sushi and in the convoy area so stopped by Ju-ichi and luckily they had some seating at the counter for us. It's a small restaurant with maybe four or five tables and a counter area with seat for ten. We got settled and ordered some nigiri, otoro, kinmadai, king salmon and yellowtail crudo and seared ahi tuna. The nigiri sushi was delicious, every fish was fresh and perfect temperature. Not a lot of yuzu salt or toppings, so you really got to experience the freshness of the fish. The crudo was also tasty. They had some chili oil in the sauce the yellowtail was resting in, which gave it a nice heat. On the side they had some grape tomato halves that had sugar on top which had been caramelized with a blow torch. A nice touch. The seared tuna was my least favorite. Not a bad dish but it lacked character. I wanted a bit more than just seared tuna slices with chilli powder on top. All in all was a good experience and I'll definitely be back here again.

Brought my mom here for her birthday for sushi specifically. Ordered the miso soup and mixed tempura to start with. The sushi rolls were fresh, flavorful, and well portioned. Sushi rice was cooked perfectly. The server, who seemed to be part of ownership, was really kind and helpful. Really excited to return to try more.

We came here to celebrate our 22nd anniversary, hoping for a nice experience. We were not disappointed. Sunday night is reserved for kaiseki style omakase, and all 12 diners were seated around the sushi bar. The restaurant was closed to regular patrons so the chef and staff can concentrate on us. The set menu consisted of cooked and raw fish, each course beautifully presented. But it wasn't just visually appealing, it was tasty. While the pictures I took shows the artful presentation, it does not capture how delicious each offering was. We genuinely loved each dish, right down to the perfect palate cleansing dessert ending. The chef carefully explained each course as it was presented, blending knowledge and humor. The two ladies serving us were super attentive and absolutely professional. Overall, it was the best omakase experience we've ever enjoyed, and a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary.

Still a 20/10 experience. The nigiri is sooo fresh and unique. My new favorite roll is the influencer roll but like always the negitoro hand roll was the star!! Will definately keep coming back.

I mean, Oishi!! Yum! Came here on a weds night because didn't want to take the chance of a possibly busy Friday night. The atmosphere was really chill. I don't remember if there was music or not but we were able to hear each other talk without having to yell. It's a small place so definitely make reservations. Our waiter was Thy and he was awesome! I've been here once before and sat at the bar then, but my sister have not and she only eat cooked food so she had alot of questions and he was great at answering and explaining to her about the menu. First thing we got was the broiled oysters and it was really tasty, we had to order another plate. The snow crab mini bowl, was not that mini and it had alot of crab in it! see pictures! Very filling and love that you get so much real crab for the price! I had most of the raw food and it was definitely fresh and delicious. My toro mini bowl was filled with alot of toro as well. My favorite was the toro uni hand roll, there was so much truffle shavings on there, SOOOOO good! And the toro and hamachi sashimi omg melt in your mouth delicious! I also forgot the Hamachi crudo is also so good! We were definitely happy diners. If you haven't been here, it's a must try!

Okay, this meal was a WHOLE vibe and I'm still thinking about it…read more We came in for a birthday celebration and Azuki did not play around. First up was this sushi roll crowned with what can only be described as a crispy fried veggie nest -- like someone built a little golden bird's nest of crunch and gently placed it on top of seared tuna and rice. Texture explosion in the best way. 10/10 presentation, 10/10 "wait, how do I even eat this" moment. Then came the sashimi board and honestly it looked like art. Torched fish, silky salmon, deep ruby tuna, all fanned out on this gorgeous dark wood plank with little bowls of ponzu, soy, wasabi, and pickled ginger surrounding it like a color wheel. Every piece was clean, fresh, and melt-in-your-mouth good. The salmon-topped roll situation (pictured mid-chopstick-action because we could NOT wait) was another highlight -- creamy, a little spicy, draped in silky salmon that basically slid right off the rice. We may have fought over the last piece. No regrets. And then dessert arrived with an actual lit candle stuck in the ice cream because it was a birthday, and my heart just melted a little (right along with the ice cream). Two scoops, warm caramel drizzle, a crispy little pastry stick, and a fudgy pool underneath -- simple but so comforting, like the kitchen knew exactly how to end the meal on a warm note. Beyond the food, it just felt like a place that cares -- good energy, thoughtful plating, and a staff that let us have our little candle moment without rushing us. If you're celebrating something (or just want to feel celebrated), go here. Bring people you love and an appetite, because you're gonna want to try everything on the table.

It is apparent from the elegant, minimalistic Japanese decor and the menu that authenticity is a priority for the family that owns and operates Ee Nami. I can't speak on that myself, but it did signal to me that the meal I would enjoy here would blow every other katsu meal I've ever tried out of the water. My husband and I chose Ee Nami as our after-work Friday date spot because we heard good things and noticed that we would be able to make it to the restaurant with a nice cushion of time before last call at 9:30. While we did have to put ourselves on the waitlist, it wasn't long at all before we were seated. Our server informed us that this is one of the best strategies to get in without much hassle; put your name on the waitlist around 9, when the reservations have all come and gone. Impressed and overwhelmed by the number of amazing offerings on the menu, we knew that for our first meal there, we should keep it simple. We both ordered Katsu Curry dishes to round out a long week of hard work. It comes in a wide, shallow dish half-filled with rice, the other half filled with ground pork curry, topped with the tonkatsu, and served with a small portion of pickled radish on the side. The server informed us that one of the containers on the table contains tonkatsu sauce (and it's so delicious that I wondered if it's made in-house). I'm known in my circle for disliking pork. However, Ee Nami's tonkatsu is so delicious that it made me realize that I like pork when it's done right. The cutlet was crisp on the outside, juicy, tender, and perfectly seasoned on the inside. The curry is very obviously homemade; no bouillon-related greasiness or generic curry powder flavor to be found. It's thick, savory, and insanely flavorful. I came in so hungry that I'm surprised that even snapped a photo before I absolutely demolished it and almost inhaled the plate along with it! Easily the best tonkatsu curry I've had and it's not even close. Overall, there are many more menu items that I'd like to try. While they have some offerings typically available at other Japanese restaurants like karaage, edamame, and potato salad, they also have more options not typically seen in San Diego like takowasa, shirasu-tofu, gyu nigiri, and ochazuke. I look forward to returning and working my way through the menu!

I am a vegetarian so I usually opt for the avo / cucumber rolls. First thing that came out was the edamame. The edamame tasted old and the beans were soft, definitely did not taste fresh at all. We left most of it on the table. My avocado rolls then came out with black/brown spots on the avocado which looked rancid. I asked for a replacement, which was then sent to me with salmon eggs on the avocado. I am a vegetarian so I could not eat this, but at this point, I did not want to be fussy again. My friend's rolls came out with fish that looked pretty grey and unappetizing. She did not really eat this either and got a pretty bad stomach ache afterward. At this point, our miso soup had to be the hero, but we were told the soups were accidentally given to another table. We didn't want to wait around for the soup, so we paid and left. All of us were hungry after. I definitely would not return to this spot. 2 stars for the servers that were trying their best.
