Food was absolutely delicious. Chicken tarragon was fresh and so filling. Half a sandwich is all you need. We also got the house fries and I can say they are worth every dollar! You order at the counter and seat yourself. They also have a deli inside for food to go. Both are excellent options. Before or after eating you can shop for gourmet items and gifts. This is the perfect place to catch up with a loved one. It's charming and cozy. read more

tried julienne for the first time as a cute date with my girls for galentine's day and have mixed opinions. it's a non-traditional restaurant in the sense that you have to find your own seating, which means constantly scouting for people to finish their food so you can grab a table. there aren't very many available, so it's best to come during off-hours to avoid long wait times. you also have to order at the counter, but only after securing a seat. my experience with the man taking my order was unpleasant and honestly felt a bit hostile. as i approached the counter (always starting with a friendly "hello, i'm ready to order!"), i was immediately shut down with a "i'm not ready yet, please wait a moment," accompanied by a finger held up in my face. my friends and i were taken aback, and this alone was enough to reduce the tip amount. aside from that, the other waitstaff were very hospitable, so i tried to enjoy the rest of our time there. i ordered the green omelette, which was good but nothing exceptional--just a standard omelette with veggies. however, i did appreciate the freshness of the fruit. usually, fruit that comes on the side of a brunch dish is oxidized or mushy, but that wasn't the case here. all things considered, i can't say i'd be eager to come back. service was somewhat decent, and the food was average but priced higher than what it was worth. read more

I enjoyed a weekday lunch at a sidewalk patio table with 3 friends on a The chicken tarragon half sandwich came with a choice of fresh fruit or lemon farfalle pasta. The rosemary bread was delicious. We shared the lemon bar order. The lemon bar was too sugary for our tastes. Self -serve water station was convenient on the patio. Counter order was efficient and the order was brought to our table. The patio heaters were on when we arrived at 11:30 AM. Holiday decor were in the shop giving a festive atmosphere. It was perfect lunch outing on a chill but sunny day. read more

In general, I ADORE everything about Julienne. I love it so much I will drive from San Diego for the pleasure. But the Arugula, Manchego, Almonds, Quince Vinaigrette is a shameful scam of a salad for $13+. The dressing is not that exciting and it is the runaway highlight of the the experience. It is less exciting than if you ran to Trader Joe's and threw together roquette, a couple chips of any hard cheese, and almonds... because at least you'd choose slivered almonds or something that isn't completely jarring whenever you bite into one and that won't all drop to the bottom of your bowl. I came with someone in a wheelchair. The staff was less than helpful. They saw that we struggled with the door and then went back to their conversation, even when asked. A new low. read more

Julienne's is an amazing restaurant. I love their pastries. They always taste very fresh. The service is amazing and I just get a warm feeling when I walk in. The decor is always very beautiful and I love their gift shop. During Christmas time. Their gift shop is always the best place to go. Their music is always very warm and comfortable. And I love their seasonal cookies the decorations on the cookies and the sprinkles really said it all. read more

My neighborhood charming French cafe. Great ambience and it's in an upscale area so don't knock the prices. Charming jewel tucked away in San Marino. I frequently go here,it's my home away from home. The servers are amazing and the food is delicious,also the shop is filled with wonderful gift ideas and quality foods to go. If it's chilly and the ceiling heaters aren't on,ask them and they will be happy to turn them on for you. Order inside and grab a table. read more

We've drove by many times and finally decided to give it a try but was disappointed. Thinking a good American breakfast with eggs, sausages, bacon and pancakes and nothing of that nature was served except for waffles and bacons. The waffles were dry like a cardboard. So boring and not fresh. The bacon was good and the hot quiche. It has nice decorations inside with outdoor seatings. It was below average. No way I'm returning here for a good breakfast meal. read more

First time trying this place. We stopped by for lunch. Make sure you secure a table first. Then order at the register. We tried their Hot Mocha, Americano, breakfast burrito, lemon brûlée scone, a muffin, and their French toast. Everything was good expect the muffin. I wouldn't order that again. Service? Not much of that ! Order a burrito and the chilaquiles , a glass of wine and a latte. Asked for water was promptly told there is self serve station outside. Food arrived the burrito was fine , the chilaquiles however were a mess . Red onions galore ,never had chilaquiles prepared this way , diced tomatoes , green onion, bell peppers and white onion as well . If I wanted an omelet with chips and salsa on top that's what I would have ordered. The latte and wine arrived 20 minutes later and only because my wife asked about them . Very disappointing experience ,will definitely not be back for over priced food and horrible service. read more

One of the best things about this place is how cute it is. It's very aesthetic and was decorated for the Halloween season. However, the food was a massive let down. For $23 I got a chicken salad sandwich with chips and a tiny bowl of lemon pasta. Food was decent at best. I feel like it was a little too expensive for what I got. And it was only half a sandwich! The chocolate croissant was good at least. My best friend got an egg burrito and he also thought it was just decent. They also charge $40 for mimosas and then were out of their famous bubbly. The pastries in the shop are delicious and I would only recommend those rather than the actual food. Customer service was hit and miss. The guy that took our food order was a bit out of it. Maybe he was new so I can't blame him if that's the case but there was another guy behind the counter who gave us attitude when he said they were out of their bubbly. Service for the pastries was good though. I'd honestly only would recommend checking the side bakery out and not actually sitting down to eat (unless you want semi expensive and decent food). read more

I want to give a higher review, but a lot of the staff on the cafe side are super rude. What keeps me coming back is the food and drinks. They have a fantastic mocha. It's super rich with a dark chocolate. My other favorite is the quiche. Mom's favorite is the tarragon chicken salad on the rosemary currant bread. The eating area is lovely and it's a nice place to take friends. read more

One of our favorites in Pasadena. The food is delicious every single time! We asked someone there if we choose between the Green Chile Omelette or Quiche, and they strongly recommended the Omelette. First thing you must know, is that it is open seating. Meaning you have to find an open table, yourself, before ordering food at the counter. This was the case for lunch on Sunday. This is a nice spot close to the Huntington Library, just 10 minutes away. Good option to eat before heading to Huntington. Cons: they were not staffed well. Service was a touch slow. Popular spot, not many tables available. Luckily, we found a table shortly. Food: we ordered chilequiles, cheeseburger, chicken tarragon sandwich, and steak salad. For dessert, we ordered bread pudding. All very very good. Ambiance: cute spot, charming. If it gets too busy, there is a fridge section inside where you can grab pre-made food to go. It's a sit down restaurant, bakery, ready made food counter, and boutique wrapped in one. The store sells candles, lotions, candy, etc. I would return for sure! read more

Been coming here for 15 years, and Julienne has stayed truly exquisite on all levels. People complaining about the service are probably projecting their own rudeness onto others, as I've always found the staff here to be attentive, but not intrusive. The breakfast offerings are divine, especially the unique plays on bread pudding / french toast. If there is a queue to get a table, it is worth the wait. One of the grab-and-go pastries on the boutique side to calm the hangry person in your group. read more

My family and I ate here earlier. My husband ate here once before and wanted to take me here because he thought I'd like it. There was no problem finding parking. In fact, we parked right in front. There was no inside dining, but we preferred to eat outside anyways. We really liked the ambience. You order inside and someone brings your order to your table. We shared the Signature Chicken Tarragon Sandwich Box. Ours consisted of a whole sandwich, a fruit salad, gourmet chips, and an Iced Vanilla Latte. You get your choice of tea or brewed coffee, but I upgraded to the latte for an additional cost. We also ordered a Ham & Gruyère Croissant and Butter Croissant. Everything was delicious, especially the chicken tarragon sandwich. The green onions and tarragon really made that sandwich and they added so much flavor and depth to it. A must try if it's your first visit. The croissants were good, but nothing special about them. read more

The staff's attitude really puts a damper on everything. I ordered the lamb sandwich and asked if there was mayo, because I am allergic to egg. The younger man at the register said no. When I sat down, the brought the sandwich and I asked about the mayo. The waitress said of course there's mayo. I told her I'm allergic and she didn't even take it away. She just looked at me. I asked if they could remake it and they said no because everything is already made. I had to order something else and ask for a refund in the difference because she did not take the initiative to do so. Salmon salad is really ok, anyone can make it at home. I remember when this place was fully packed and a desirable brunch spot. Now it's just sad togo food. read more

12/14/21 Loved the reviews & the creme brûlée bread pudding drew my husband & I in....sadly, they no longer have it on the menu. Blame it in the pandemic. Ambiance =5/5 Food=3/5 Food presentation =3/5 Price point = 3/5 Customer service =4/5 On a rainy & windy day it was very cold but the heat lamps came on strong & aren't adjustable. Food arrived quickly in bamboo looking paper plates. The breakfast burrito was small, hubby says "it's alright, but too much potatoes more than anything" The quiche lacked oomph & flavor & the open faced salmon was on one single sad looking toast, lots of capers though. Coffee was decent & thank goodness for refills (it was cold!!! needed some warmth). The place is definitely a feast for the eyes. I'm willing to try it again another (sunny) day, hopefully it'll be better. The creme brûlée bread pudding would've probably wowed us.... read more

My friend and I came here for brunch recently not having realized that they converted from the restaurant they once were to a cafe. Whether that affected the taste or preparation of the food currently offered on the limited menu, I will never know. What I do know is my breakfast burrito was teeny tiny and not worth the price tag in either taste or size. The latte was also mediocre. And the wait time for this average at best meal was incredibly long. They also have a shop inside where they sell a bunch of knick knacks and some prepared foods. The shop is cute and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. But I would pass on actually dining here/grabbing food from the cafe if I were you. Just my opinion. read more

History

Established in 1985.

Susan Campoy opened Julienne as a natural outgrowth of her home-based catering business, which started with cooking for friends. Sue's love for cooking and entertaining was well known and admired in the community, and her dinner party guests quickly became loyal clients. Initially a small restaurant with only four tables and one deli case, Julienne thrived and grew faster than Sue ever imagined. Soon more tables were added, a new deli case offered take-away foods, and in 1990, at the insistent pleas of regulars, breakfast was added. Julienne remains in its original location, nestled amid Mission Street's boutiques and salons in a tree-lined residential neighborhood, but it has expanded three times, gradually taking over adjacent spaces. Today the Restaurant includes the private Library Dining Room and the Gourmet Market, which offers prepared prepared meals, frozen foods, boutique wines and gifts for those who love to cook, eat and/or entertain.

The service is always great at this location. The bartender was very attentive during our visit. In front of the restaurant there is street parking that gets busy at night. Prior to 6pm, some parking in front is limited to one hour so read the signs carefully. Also, the parking in front is metered so pay the pay the meter. We were all extremely happy and satisfied with our entrees. The portions are perfect. No doggy bags needed and no room for dessert. I really enjoyed the broccolini that accompanied my salmon--it was cooked just enough to retain a little crunch. The savory sauce on the salmon was subtle and complimentary to the flaky fish. We sat in the bar room of this restaurant that used to be a house. The patio looked lovely too, especially on a summer evening so maybe we'll choose that next time. The other two dishes were... okay. Not bad, but not something I'd crave again. The first bite was promising, then the flavor kind of disappeared. The mapo tofu didn't taste like any mapo tofu I've had before, and it wasn't spicy at all. When I reheated the leftovers, I added a bit of seasoning and it tasted much better. We also tried their Copycat Milk Tea with lychee jelly, and unfortunately it didn't hit the mark -- really sweet with an odd aftertaste and we're in SGV we can find PLENTY of boba places so don't try it here. One small perk: even though they're a cash-only business, they let us pay with Zelle, which was super convenient! Honestly, I wouldn't mind coming back to give them another try. Maybe we came on an off day, and I want to give them the benefit of the doubt.
