Most places are cheap crap. Some places are decent. Jumbos is the ONE PLACE in the neighborhood that consistently makes pizza exactly as it was made back then. The place on Amsterdam is ok but it's hit or miss. Also Jumbo, true to its name, makes these pies so big they needed 5 little plastic tables inside. The gyros, the burgers, everything is great. If you are looking for ambiance go pay almost $11 for a baconeggandcheese on a brioche bun at one of the pricey hipster brunch spots. If I could give less than 1 star I would. I placed an order for my office at 9:30AM to be delivered between 12:20PM and 12:45PM. Received a message at 12:45PM that my order was cancelled. No explanation given. How do you do that and stay in business! I had a whole office of people waiting to eat lunch. I had to quickly scramble to get food from someplace else delivered for my entire office. This is unacceptable customer service. If you can't fulfill an order at least alert the customer ahead of time, not when it was due to be delivered. I don't know how good or bad the food is but will never order from here again. My first pizza slice in NYC. I loved it. Truly a neighborhood's spot. Located uptown. Nothing fancy but friendly staffs, good taste! I opted for a veggie slice, they reheated up to perfection! Crispy yet has that chew. Don't remember the exact price, but it was quite high like 6-7 bucks (special topping) but it was huuuuge. The veggies were amazing, not soggy, crisp, fresh, great broccoli and onion. Overall, a really great slice. And yes, its really a jumbo pizza. I was staying in an airbnb near Jumbo Pizza Coffee Shop and was looking to order 6 various large pizzas for delivery. I called two hours in advance and spoke with a very nice and helpful guy who answered all my questions. For "large" they have 16' and 18'. A plain cheese 18' pie is only $15!!! A tremendous bargain compared to the pizza prices where I live. I ended up ordering all 18' pies. Here's what I got: 3 plain cheese 1 Hawaiin 1 Sausage 1 Loaded veggie Also, the guy on the phone let me know that they would also send 2 free 2 liter sodas along with the pizza. And plates. And napkins. These six 18' pies were all delivered exactly when I asked. The bill was $100.00 before tip, which I think is a crazy bargain considering how much pizza actually showed up! You are still probably wondering about the quality of the pizza, was it good? Yes. It was standard NYC pizza, which carries a high expectation, and it was very good. Medium crust, not too thin or thick. Generous amount of sauce and cheese, as well as toppings. Big foldable slices. I live in Portland, Maine. Honestly, Scam Artists! Beware. They have a menu up on the board and another printed and they decided to charge additional just because "prices went up" $6.50 for a slice that originally costs $5. They are charging phantom prices. When I confronted the guy at the register with the menu and prices he blatantly said "I'm sorry prices went up, this is an old menu". But he wouldn't even honor the advertised price, as it is THEIR mistake for no having updated prices on the board so customers know exactly what they're ordering. Amazing pizza shop with lots of other food options (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and great prices. I usually get a slice or 2 (they are pretty big slices). Always delicious. The staff is very friendly as well. I love that you can order online or over the phone. They deliver pretty quickly. Besides the pizza, I like to order the baked ziti with chicken (yummy!), the chicken souvlaki platter, and the breakfast platters. I ordered the hearty breakfast, and its suppose to come with 3 eggs, 3 bacon, 3 sausage, and 3 ham. Worst experience ever. Ordered the Chicken Alfredo (which I've ordered before) and this time it came with a ton of onions! My friend has a severe onion allergy!! I had to grab her epipen before her throat closed up. Alfredo NEVER EVER EVER comes with onions (and I'm a Chef so I know it doesn't). If you're going to change your menu items you need to list that in your descriptions, especially if it is such a common allergen... I can't eat bacon, I ordered a burger with mushroom and the first time was with bacon, I called they said they will send it again, 2 time it was the exact burger with bacon, I asked to talk to the manager and he made sure they order was correct, this time the burger was with mushroom but it was well done, and I've asked for rare and I repeated my order 10 times to them. Provisional 5 Star Review, as this was our first time with Jumbo Pizza.... We ordered through Grubhub - a medium pepperoni pizza, a mixed green salad and a turkey burger. They were on time, honored special requests and my oh my! they put steamed veggies atop the mixed salad, a very nice extra. Unexpected elegance from the corner pizza shoppe. The salad furthermore was fresh and big. The pizza was delicious with a darn good crust, if not totally amazing. The turkey burger was quite tasty and the bun was fresh. When I'm craving a slice (or a patty) this is were I go in the neighborhood. Service is fast and friendly, and the food is consistently good. Plain cheese slices are good, nice not too crispy crust, has some thickness to it. The chicken roll is delicious and nicely prices. I often will hair get a roll instead of a slice because the roll costs almost the same as the slice. The beef patty is warmed in the oven so it's nice and crispy like it's meant to be. The only bad thing I've had from here is a gyro (ironically since it seems to be owned by middle eastern/ Indian guys). The gyro meat is funny tasting, doesn't taste quite like meat tastes like it has filler of some sort. Haven't tried the burgers or breakfast entrees, I go here for pizza and pizza like items and that's it. The guys who work here are nice and cordial. Not short or rude with their customers always a pleasant experience when I order. The eating area is also nice and clean, not much seating but if I didn't live down the block and wanted to eat my slice there I wouldn't feel like it was a grungy fast food spot. I will prob continue coming here when I'm craving pizza carbs. It's safe, not terribly pricey and for the quantity worth the slightly more expensive prices when compared to the $1 spot up the street. read more
