I had never been here until a few weeks ago but always hear my partner and his friends talking good about this spot so I decided to give it a try and got some slices for me to roll up to the movies. It's a solid slice. My slices were out of the oven. I saw the pie being pulled out. Hot af! The sauce wasn't up to par for me. I've had better. The crust tho.. now that was fire. It was chewy, almost breadstick consistency. Also known as Johnny's in Dyckman, this is one of the best take out pizzerias in uptown /Inwood. All the gentlemen who work here are super nice and work quickly. I've never ever had any issues with my pizza from here. They do have a few tables towards the back if you do want to eat there. This restaurant is pretty small so while you're waiting for your slice or meal there will be a bunch of people waiting as well depending on the time of day. I love that their pizza is a great size, has the perfect amount of cheese and sauce, and has a nice crunchy crust. It's pretty much almost perfection. When I used to eat my favorite slice there was their chicken slice. They put the nicest pieces of chicken cutlets on the slice and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top. Now I just usually get either a plain slice or a mushroom. Can't go wrong with this place and they stay open pretty late, which is another plus. read more

Really unique and fun pizza experience, and the portions are HUGE. The first thing you notice is that you don't walk up to a glass case of different flavors - instead you sidle up alongside an open counter, waist-high, with a bunch of friendly guys behind it. You tell them your chosen toppings and they pluck the slices out of either a huge round plain cheese pie or a massively thick Sicilian square pie, then generously top the slices and slide them into the oven. After your order comes out 5 min later, you sprinkle on your chosen seasonings and pay your cash. This is like thee best pizza place in all of Manhattan. I grew up in this area and have established my baseline of what good pizza is simply by eating here since literally last century! Their slices are HUGE, not to mention cheap! Back in the day, I used to order slices that were bigger than me. The beef patty with cheese was a favorite of mine back when I was a teenager. Ever since I was a child and even up to today, whenever I pass this pizza place, the smell is so good, that I have to go in and order a slice. Anyway, a long time ago, the owners had another one of these same pizza parlors down the same street - where the parking lot is, but it burned down. Crisp, straight like cardboard, BUT thicker and doughier than the normal thickness. How can it be doughy and crisp at the same time is beyond me. Super flavorful. Just a few sprinkles of chili flakes for a little heat was all that was needed. Great crust. Great sauce. Loads of gooey cheese. Prime NY real estate classic 150 sq ft studio. If you're claustrophobic, refrain from coming here. Old articles on the wall filled with recognition and acknowledgment regarding what this place has done for the community and what it has to offer amongst its competitors. AND...it's not all fluff. I got a regular slice and it was good I must say. If you're a true New Yorker you know good pizza. It's a cheese/tomato sauce ratio you have to rate slices on. And oh! The crust has to be a good layer of dough....not too thin that the ingredients can't even stay on and not too thick that it taste like you're biting into a pamper. Pizza parlor got it right! This is definitely a cool place! Its the oldest slice joint in the neighborhood. Everyone working here looks like they've been here for a long time, and they were old school white/red striped uniforms when I was here. They definitely have their fair share of regulars. The pizza they make isn't your average slice, however. They are gigantic, thick slices of pizza. Like an inch thick and over 20" for a pie. Suffice to say, I was skeptical. Luckily the pizza was actually good. The crust doesn't have much in the way of flavor, but it is like fluffy, fresh bread. Not dense all! Its a minor miracle that they are able to achieve this--especially in an ordinary gas oven. The cheese they use is good quality, but the sauce is weak. Little to no flavor, which really sucks. This is decent pizza, but it would be much better (maybe awesome) if they had used more toppings to balance out the thick crust and if they had at least a decent sauce. If you're going heavy on one ingredient like this, you have to go all out for the rest as well. I wanted to rate this place higher based on its uniqueness but the taste just wasn't there for me. Its definitely worth a try though if you're a pizza nut like me: more as an oddity than a solid place. And if you're in the neighborhood, this is definitely the best option. read more
