I absolutely love this pizza. I love everything about it. The funny part is that people love to eat this pizza drunk - well I don't drink and I actually truly enjoy it sober! First of all, they are open super late, which is so convenient. Second of all this is the OG spot, all the fakes don't even come close. The pizza is so greasy but tastes oh so good and literally ENORMOUS. I know when you go in the place- its a straight hole in the wall - but isn't that where the best food always is?? 100% recommend. I don't get to eat it that often but It is one of my absolute favorite pizza joints. read more

Jumbo Slice is definitely a bit of a dump, but I can see the appeal. It is tucked away in the perfect spot on 18th St. There are so many bars and restaurants to get your drink on at right beside it that I feel like literally everyone was dropping by for a slice afterwards. Starting at $5.50 for a Cheese and $1.00 extra per topping I did think it was rather pricey. The whole place was a mess inside and out, with trash everywhere and a messy food preparation area. It's good for a late night snack if you don't care what you're eating, but other than that I'd skip out. read more

Literally the best slice pizza to have if you don't want to commit to a whole pie. I'm sure it's equivalent to maybe 3 slices.

I only have two words about this establishment and they are: "Wow. Wee", or possibly a one word conjunction of two: "Wowee". As a native Bostonian (as I like to call myself despite the fact that I live in a suburb 45 minutes south of the great city), I always enjoy a good slice, haha right? Let me tell you, my slight to moderately-heavy level of inebriation at the time of my visit may have impaired my judgement of this pizza's quality, but the quantity was most certainly "jumbo". If this slice was a human being, I would describe it as a man of about 6'4" weighing in around 165 with nice enough facial features and a decent haircut: quite tall (long) but not very thicc. Would I eat this slice again? Undoubtedly. Would I marry it? Probably not, unless it really had a good set of morals and hefty salary. read more

Dear Jumbo slice, We've been doing this for about eight years now, never sober, only when I want you real bad. It's hard when you entice me with your disco balls and indian music, but I always have $4 in my pocket and two quarters for pepperoni. Okay, I know Jumbo Slice is massively overhyped, but I totally understand the cult following of this place. Just like in real estate, it's all about Location, Location, LOCATION. For around $5-7, you get a ginormous pizza of doom. Why would you come here other than at 1 to 3 in the morning, I have no idea, but Jumbo Slice serves its true purpose (i.e. stomach liner for the too drunk) in AdMo's notorious late night chaos. I was actually impressed that the crust tasted fresh and light, the pepperoni was greasy, sufficient, and oh so yummy. Nothing gourmet here and not worth making a special (sober) trip, but for a slice that's basically the equivalent to the size of half a pizza, it's a good deal and perfect for ending the night. Also, hilarious to watch drunk folks try to eat a slice outside. Bonus! They take credit card. Also amazed at the volume of folks and how quickly they got you your slice - no wait time here. All in all, it's a late night joint in one of DC's main party districts. What more can you ask for? read more

I like this place. Located conveniently along many many bars, Jumbo Slice is a great option when you or your friends are drunk hungry. The pizza slices are in fact JUMBO. Slices are served fast, and the pizza is totally steaming when you get it. They also taste pretty good, (maybe even if you're not drunk). I think this is a good, no frills pizza joint. It's open late and pretty cheap for what you get. I'd take my inhiberated friends here if we were in the area after a couple drinks. read more

It tastes like enriched starch and red paste, and I'm sure the ingredients, in reality, are not much better than that. It's hard to believe that a pizza fiend and all-out glutton like myself did not know that jumbo slices even existed. Maybe some part of me did know, but it was totally under the radar, limited to dream scenes, episodes of Man Vs. Food I never paid attention to, and grody college humor fantasies... Even more difficult to fathom is why my friends in DC waited for my THIRD visit to unveil this temple for drunks in the Adams Morgan neighborhood. Anyway, my Jumbo Slice experience was all very straightforward; we went out in the area first, pounded beers at a few of the estabilshments in the surprisingly (I say surprisingly, because we New Yorkers have our noses in the air about nightlife in other "cities") awesome strip of bars frequented by college students, young professionals, and out of town hoodlums. Then, we walked slowly back towards Woodley Place, and I marveled at the whistle clean streets and conservative, non-smoking crowds while my friends - spoiled by DC vision - vocalized how dirty, nasty, and sketchy the whole scene was. We walked into the small pizza house, which had a benevolent crowd and line remeniscent of a late night at Blondie's in Berkeley. I peeked into the kitchen and let out a squeal that probably woke a few people up from their blackouts. I couldn't believe it. It was seriously like I was Alice in Wonderland and had eaten those shrooms that shrunk me...because there was no other way the pizza pie could be so big. It was like the size of a round table cloth. It was goddamn huge. The cutter/server smiled/sneered at me with pride and a measure of contempt. "Six dollars!" he barked, lopping off a gigantic triangle larger than my face (that's pretty damn big, folks), and whipping it down on two overlapping paper plates. So floppy and unwieldy were our purchases that we had to stop at the lean-to counter to trim them down before we could get mobile again. For some reason, all three of my buddies chowed down and finished these monstrosities in about five minutes flat. I couldn't stop saying "HOLY SHIT" and wondering aloud how they were already finished. "It's because we're not talking and we folded ours in half," they said, but I still didn't get it. The bites I made looked as small as the arcs of pinky fingernails against the hot tundra of tomato sauce, cheese, and oil-dimpled pepperoni. I kept working on it the whole way home (about a twenty minute walk), and kept snacking for half an hour more in a semi-supine state on the couch with a huge cup of Coca Cola by my side. My friend groaned, clutching her stomach and rolling on her bed. I felt like I was in both Heaven (eternal happiness) and Hell (endless task) until I somehow reached the end and passed out. I felt fine, by the way, and ready to seize the next day. Jumbo Slice is a grotesquely pleasing national treasure, but definitely not a place to be over-visited, or I'm sure there'd be consequences. My boyfriend and I came here the other night when visiting Adams Morgan. This was my first time in the area, and boy was I taken aback by how many college kids were around. I definitely do not think this area is my scene, however, I loved finding Jumbo Slice and splitting one of their large cheese pizza slices with my bf. As everyone else has mentioned their slices are beyond the size of your typical pizza. Think the size of your head if not larger. It surpasses even the size of Sabarro's in the mall. The greasy goodness would be great for a late night bite after a night of debauchery or simply to hold you over if you are feeling a bit of hunger which was our case. We didn't want anything overwhelming, but just enough. It does hit the spot for sure! We dined outside on their outdoor patio tables. They had 4 tables out there where it makes for great people watching. We were heckled by three homeless people and a tarot card reader all in the 30 minutes we dined out there. For the heck of it, we did get a tarot card reading a piece for $5. A dinner and a show for the cheap, why not?! Keep in mind that I have never been to this place sober, ever, so my judgement might have been a bit clouded. This was my last visit to Jumbo Slice and I will try to recreate the event for my fellow Yelpers by a short story. Let's get this straight, right off the bat. You are blasted, can't see straight, and are hungry as hell. You see someone walk by you eating a slice of pizza the size of a small car (no kidding, the slice is the size of a half of a large pizza) and you must have it. You ask the guy where he got it, trying not to slur so hard so he can understand you while your friends hold you up. You get carried into Jumbo Slice demanding that your friends release you so you aren't embarrassed, but it's totally cool! There are at least two other people in there that can't stand under their own power so why the hell should you? Well I did, I stood there and waited to get my slice of glory along with the mob of other people who have drank themselves into a coma. My friend behind me tells me he is really hungry and he is going to order TWO slices of Jumbo Slice, which even in my current state I tell him is a very bad idea. A bad idea indeed. I get my pizza, which is so large it is on two (or three) paper plates and I tilt it toward the floor to drain the excess grease (which is enough to lubricate a locomotive) and let it drain right there in the shop. I do not care because it is filthy in there and I am in a drunken stupor. I eat my Jumbo Slice, all of it. My friend eats his two slices, all of it. We then proclaim how it is the greatest damn pizza we have ever had. There are other people in the shop fighting and cursing, there is some poor girl throwing up in a trashcan in the corner. We then leave and get on the Metro and head toward Vienna, my friend complaining about how full and sick he feels from eating his two slices of trash pizza. Getting off of the Metro in Vienna my friend who thought it was the greatest idea ever to eat two slices of Jumbo Slice, throws it all back up immediately after getting off of the escalator. People are shocked and terrified that he did this in the Metro station but my friend is more concerned and disappointed in the fact that he just threw up and wasted $8 worth of Jumbo Slice in a train station. We quickly evacuated the scene and were chauffeured home by our kind DD (Thanks Mark!). SO! Jumbo Slice is a drunken idiots paradise. Having gone there a few times less drunk, the pizza is still decent and huge but Adams Morgan is a dangerous place to be after the bars close and you are guaranteed to see a fight or two, maybe even one in Jumbo Slice like other Yelpers have seen. If you must have pizza, and can't see straight, this is your place to be. read more

If you have doubts about the size - the reviews or the pics aren't convincing enough, just imagine the largest pizza slice you've ever had....then DOUBLE IT. Word of the wise, avoid the exotics - avoid the meat lovers or the additional toppings...this thing has enough grease alone, no need to add additional grease. After a rough night in adam's morgan full of lines at glorified frat parties, Jumbo Slice is the one thing I know will never let me down. But seriously, I don't know how I can love a place that probably ends up making me feel even more sick afterwards than before....but it sure sobers you up. It's easy to overlook this when you're pushing your way through the rowdy crowd of drunks usually gathered outside, then being mesmerized by the enormous slices of pizza being served up for less than $5 at the front counter. Jumbo Slice is a MUST HAVE after a long night of drinking/partying in Adams Morgan. Usually I'm so drunk that i walk past the gah-zillion people waiting in line, find some boys close to the front who aren't paying attention and then cut in front of them and order real quick. I'm too drunk to care at that point that I'd hate me if I were one of the people waiting in line. I've only been called out on this once, by a guy, and he didn't care - actually gave me his # !!! haha. Anyway, greasy ass pizza, so huge (about a quarter of a pizza) it's served on two paper plates (vertical) and on tin foil.... you need two hands to carry it, and AT LEAST one person to help you eat it (especially if you're a girl..... unless you're super dooper hungry). This is a hot spot of AM, so expect to wait in line & expect me to cut in front of you (hah), expect to run into people from your college/high school/work if you've lived in that area a good while or went to any of the DC/VA/MD colleges.
