    Tagliolino al Mentaiko Cream Pasta
    Shannon M.

Value for money: 4 Cleanliness: 5 Food Quality: 5 Customer Service: 5 Look and Feel (Ambiance): 5 Thank you, Come Again?: 5 Junah is on the James Beard nomination list, and after dining here, I can totally see why. Their Japanese and Italian fusion offerings are unique and unlike anything I've seen in Salt Lake City before. Yum. If you are a party of two, I recommend ordering one item from each category. One dish for Antipasta, one for Primi, and one for Secondi. Antipasta - Gyoza Shaped Ravioli We started with the gyoza shaped ravioli. I wish there were more than four pieces for 13 dollars, but they were delicious. Each fold was perfectly shaped and the sauce wasn't overwhelming. Primi - Tagliolino Al Mentaiko This was the standout dish. I've had a few mentaiko cream based pastas before, and this one was out of the park delicious. The chiffonade shiso leaves on the side added a nice bitter note to balance the creamy, salty pasta. Great balance. Secondi - Tagliata di Bosco For our main, we ordered the steak dish. It came out perfectly medium rare, very tender, and seasoned beautifully. The vegetables were also delicious. Junah is a must try if you are a major foodie. I can't wait for my next visit.

Great service great food and great atmosphere. If you're looking for something romantic opt to sit at the table. But if you're looking to interact with the staff, the counter is the best. Love the pork belly dish, tuna tartare, and the beef carpaccio.

This place had been on my list for a minute and I was excited to finally check it out. It's a very intimate space - only maybe 12ish tables and a bar. We got a reservation in advance and sat at the bar. For an appetizer, bottle of wine, and two entrees we paid around $150. It's a little bit on the pricier side, but our bottle of wine had a lot to do with that. I believe that was $65. The food was good - I was expecting more of an Asian influence in the dishes but what I ordered what mostly Italian influence. Before we ordered, they gave us toast and a sampler of their pesto olives, truffle butter, and another butter. Everything was delicious! I got their tortellini and it was good, but left me wanting more. Parking in this area can be tricky, especially on the weekends so keep that in mind!

My friend was visiting from out of town, so we decided to try this place for the first time. It's a Japanese and Italian fusion restaurant, which I've never heard of before. The restaurant was small with a high-end atmosphere and great service. Parking could be tough later in the night, but I was able to find a spot just north of the restaurant on Jefferson street. We had a reservation at 6 p.m. and were immediately seated. Delicious (free!) bread was delivered to our table with a truffle and chive butter along with pesto with olives. I can't tell you how happy I am to see that bread is still free at some places. We enjoyed the Midnight Burrata and Aurora Crudo for appetizers. Both were amazing, but the beautiful presentation and complex flavors of the crudo won me over as my favorite. For entrees, my friend had the Risotto Vegano and loved it. I had the Tagliolino al Mentaiko, which looked simple but had complex flavors with a hint of spice. I also tried a grapefruit sake drink that was like a boozy grapefruit soda, which was good but I was sad that they didn't have cocktails. We finished our meal with a Crème Brûlée which was a great portion and delicious but lacked that signature hard sugar crust. Our bill came to about $125 before tip. Overall this was a great fancy dinner place, and I'm excited to go back and try more things.

Service was 10/10 the staff was so professional. Vibes were great. The entrees were 4/5 but the apps were 5/5. I would go back solely for the apps. They were delicious. Sorry not sorry for the half eaten appetizers..tummies ate first on this one.

The food was wonderful. Asian fusion IS my thing! The only real complaint I have was the service. Our server was not bad, but sometimes, it took a while to get a hold of her. Also, I asked for more complimentary bread and butter, but she did not bring it out. In addition, she didn't seem too friendly. The food itself was good. Each dish was definitely unique. The tagliolino al mentaiko had a very subtle taste to it, but it was nice and creamy. The matcha tiramisu was soft and had a hint of matcha flavor. I really like the midnight burrata! It came out very hot haha I think it could be a dessert with how sweet it is. The complimentary bread and butter/sauce was nice to have. The butters are made in house. I like how they gave me different kinds of butter, one being truffle flavored. I wanted more bread & butter but was not given any more, even though I specifically asked. Overall, nice vibe. It's very minimally modern. I would consider this place a more upscale dining establishment.

Stopped into Junah for the first time and it is now one of my favorite restaurants in Utah. Our server, Lauren was incredible and helped us navigate a menu with unfamiliar offerings. Our party ordered five different appetizers. We all loved the beet salad and burrata dish. The homemade sourdough and butter were to die for. The glazed mushrooms were good, though I probably wouldn't order again. I thought the arancini flavors were a little strange together so I wouldn't go for that again either. All 4 of the entrees were outstanding and offered novelty with intense depth of flavor. The mentaiko pasta was the table favorite and possibly the best pasta dish I've ever tried. I was also blown away by the pappardelle special. Dessert left a little to be desired. The matcha tiramisu didn't taste anything like tiramisu and reminded me more of matcha tres leches. The crème brûlée was fine but I'll probably skip dessert next time. While not everything was a home run for me flavor wise, there were several standout dishes that blew my mind. This place is exceptional from the food, presentation, service, and ambiance. It's also priced very reasonably. If you want a unique dining experience with a skillfully creative menu and flavors that will punch you in the face, you're going to love Junah.

Hmmm, I'm torn...depends on the dish you order, the quality varies quite a lot. We thought the beets salad was the best, would skip the gyoza, the pork was meh, but then the octopus was good. The food theme feels a bit "confused"...like they'd throw a lot of different flavors together and it doesn't feel intentional.

ok this place is honestly kind of unreal, one that deserves the hype. michelin star nomination in SLC?!? i have no idea what i'm talking about actually but i do know my mouth was very happy. the truffle butter, crusted sourdough, fried zucchini flowers and gnocchi alla junah were highlights. the velvet booths, ambient lighting and hot tattooed waiters were even brighter highlights

This place is way too cool for me, but I loved it. Would come back to celebrate or show off SLC's food scene. The food was amazing. If you get there and aren't sure of the menu your server will walk you through what you want to try. We tired a lot of different things and had an amazing culinary experience. See pictures for all the things we loved. Loving this neighborhood that is up and coming. Parking on the street or easily ride your bike on the 9th line.

I cancelled a reservation I have had for weeks to go here instead, and I'm so glad we did. Junah was the best meal I've had in a long time, Italian and Japanese fusion. Uni shooters special, carpaccio di Bue, gnocchi alla aragosta, tagliata di Bosco, Poached pear. The carpaccio was a favorite for sure. Everything was executed amazingly. We can't wait to come back.

i felt this place is quite overhyped online for what it is. $30-$40 a dish for small servings and long waits for food that have you leaving hungrier than when you came in. Hostess wasnt the warmest when we checked in for our reservation. We were seated at the smaller tables that are only a few inches apart so you unfortunately hear everything at the tables next to you, and when people get out around you, you end up with a strangers bottom crossing your face on the way out. Also had the unfortunate experience of having a loud manspreader next to us who tainted our experience as well. Overall i felt like the dishes left some to be desired flavor and portion wise and i dont think ill be returning. My favorite dish was the mussels which is sadly only a for now special.

I was welcomed and taken directly to the bar (as I requested) and offered water choices. I felt very well served! I met Jack at the bar and he and the other people working there were so good about checking on my drinks, dinner, ect. GET THE BREAD! Wow, the focaccia and other breads in the basket were great, but they add in a garlic butter!!! WOOWOO. Decided on a Hugo Spritz and a Rose Spritz, so two great drinks with dinner. I also ordered the meatball appetizer and the Aglio E Olio pasta. I really loved the Aglio. I thought the meatballs were good, but not my favorite. That being said, I came back the second night for dinner again and they have been spot on with everything (minus the meatballs not being my favorite). The next night I tried the Brasato and those short ribs did fall off! I also had a glass of an extremely expensive wine, so it was nice to be able to try something and that they even have that option! The restaurant clearly aims for an elevated dining experience, and there's a lot to appreciate in the overall presentation and ambiance. That said, the experience landed more in the "good" than "exceptional" category for us. The dining room was noticeably loud, which made conversation a bit challenging at times. While the food was well presented, the pricing felt a little ambitious relative to the overall quality. Several dishes were extremely heavy on the Parmesan Reggiano--to the point that it overpowered some of the intended flavors rather than complementing them. The service team was kind and well-meaning, though some interactions felt slightly awkward rather than naturally polished. Overall, Matteo delivers a solid dining experience with a lively atmosphere, but at this price point, I was hoping for a bit more refinement and balance. Still a worthwhile visit, especially if you enjoy a vibrant Italian dining scene.

He took the time to explain every special in detail, made us feel like we were longtime friends, and struck the perfect balance of being attentive without ever hovering. We were dining with our toddler, and he brought over crackers just in case our little one wanted a snack. That level of thoughtfulness speaks volumes. The restaurant had technically closed, but Ben never once made us feel rushed. Instead, he let us relax, enjoy the beautiful patio, and savor every moment of our meal. It's a beautiful space, especially when it's still light outside and the evening sun comes in through the windows. Our server Jordan was excellent. Knowledgeable and efficient. They give you a TON of complementary things. Bruschetta to start. A massive bread basket, which is great for dipping into the anchovy garlic dipping sauce and all sorts of other sauces throughout the evening. And biscotti and a little cup of hot chocolate for dessert. We did not love the pasta sampler we ordered, though. It certainly wasn't bad, but all the pasta was overcooked IMO. I got the Salsiccia e Mare for my entree, and it was fabulous. Essentially a cioppino, but with sausage on a bit of spinach in the middle. The seafood was clams, muscles, calamari, and scallops. My wife had the Pollo della Casa, which was super tasty, but, as with the pasta, we thought the risotto was really overcooked. Had almost no consistency at all. Almost like creamy grits. And the famous lemon gelato dessert at the end was super. It was 28 bucks - ouch - but it was massive. Very lemony, and served on a bit of fresh Utah peaches. Prepared tableside, which was fun. I didn't love the honey they drizzled all over it, but my wife sure did. All in all, a really fun evening and a very solid restaurant. We'll go again.

I was never a big fan of gnocchi but it was fantastic, served in a spicier tomato-based sauce. There was a spectacular butternut squash ravioli, spinach ravioli, and a spaghetti with an indescribably delicious cream sauce. Overall, that dish is NOT to be missed. We also had a special entree of beef tenderloin with mushrooms, shaved potatoes, and an oxtail sauce. We shared it because OMG food coma, which was a great call. We finished with the tiramisu *swoon* and the lemon gelato with lemon juice, local Utah honey, and sea salt sprinkles. I'm not a big lemon dessert fan and I wouldn't have normally ordered it (I had the tiramisu). The lemon gelato with honey had such a pleasantly unusual texture. The honey had the mouth feel of stringy cheese but the flavor of spring. The gelato was delicate and soft and the salt just amplified the experience. Zachary was our server. He's funny, extremely knowledgeable, and served each dish with an unforgettable flourish. I'm sure mine is just one more voice extolling the fabulousness of this restaurant, but it was a pleasure. One of my requirements was cocktails, and those looked pretty good from what I saw on Yelp. The menu was intriguing as well. I knew I wanted to try the tuna tartare for sure. I made a reservation for us for 18:30 and we were greeted with a smile and quickly seated. The ambiance was beautiful. I loved the giant tree in the middle of the dining room, and the seats were so chic and comfy. There is a parking garage, so no need to worry about parking either. Our server promptly greeted us and we placed our order for our cocktails and the tuna tartare app. I went with the Truth or Pear (I'm a sucker for anything pear related) and my husband went with the Mezcal old fashioned. Both arrived to our table shortly before the complimentary bread did. That bread was oh so warm and fluffy, and came with the most delightful herb oil to dip in. The cocktails were good, smooth and well-balanced. The tuna tartare was next to arrive, and it was plated wonderfully. I was very excited to dig in. The bread was toasted to perfection, and the tuna was seasoned with the most delightful citrus notes, just as stated in the menu. It was a perfect combination of flavors, and my favorite dish of the evening. The portion was also generous in my opinion, and we definitely savored each bite. As far as our entrees, we both wanted pasta, and the bison rigatoni caught my eye immediately. The spicy rigatoni spoke to my husband as well, so that's what we both ended up ordering. The pasta was quite decadent, especially mine with the ricotta. We noticed a lot of people packing up leftovers, and quite frankly, if we weren't so hungry, we probably would have had leftovers as well. While the sauce was overall good, it was a little monotone. The rigatoni was also a little overcooked. I honestly expected more, especially coming from CA, where I am no stranger to quality pasta dishes hailing from restaurants in Carmel, Half Moon Bay, and similar towns. We left with our bellies full, and the service was great, but I wished our pasta dishes were better, especially for what we paid (which was comparable to what I've paid in CA, mind you). The tuna tartare was most definitely the highlight of our meal. The next time we're in SLC, I'd come back for the tuna tartare, but it looks like I'll need to do a more thorough search for restaurants that serve better pasta.

The salty mushrooms were mellowed by the chewy rice. The cashew cream gave a nice variation in texture. I didn't leave a morsel behind. The harissa carrots were nice as well. Like many people, we were excited to dine at a restaurant led by a chef who has beaten Bobby Flay. We arrived for our 8:15 p.m. reservation and were seated promptly. Unfortunately, from that point on, the service became increasingly confusing. Our server seemed flustered from the beginning and even commented that she wanted to make sure everything was right for our experience. When ordering drinks, I asked for a root beer and was told they had one. A few minutes later I was informed they actually didn't and was given a Dr Pepper instead. No big deal--I didn't want to make an issue of it. The bigger problems started with the food service. There were three of us. Two ordered the filet, and one ordered the chicken. The first entrées brought to our table weren't ours at all and had to be taken away. When our actual meals arrived, they were still mixed up. I was served the chicken despite ordering the filet. The same thing happened with dessert. We ordered two Baked Alaskas and one Lemon Cake. Again, the desserts were delivered to the wrong people. These weren't major issues individually, but when they happen repeatedly throughout one meal, it takes away from what should have been an outstanding dining experience. Now for the positive... The kitchen absolutely delivered. The filet was cooked perfectly. The chicken was outstanding. Presentation was beautiful. The Baked Alaska was one of the best I've had. The food easily earns five stars. Unfortunately, the front-of-house experience did not. To make matters worse, after I finished the Dr Pepper that I hadn't originally ordered, my glass sat empty for roughly 45 minutes. No refill was offered, and I eventually had to ask for another beverage while dessert was being served. One final observation... The receipt included an optional surcharge for the back-of-house staff. I understand it could be removed upon request, but I don't believe guests should be placed in the position of deciding how restaurant employees are compensated. Pay your team well, price the menu accordingly, and let guests simply enjoy their meal. Urban Hill has one of the most talented kitchens I've experienced in quite some time. If the service can reach the same level as the food, this restaurant would easily deserve five stars.
