This Mexican restaurant is tucked away on Venice and Clarington with a free parking lot. They have a great happy hour until 7 pm on weekdays, with margaritas and plenty of food options! It was not crowded when we went on a Friday and the service was very quick. The food and drinks were tasty and the meal was very reasonably priced

Was there yesterday, the chicken negro mole enchiladas was excellent , the margarita was top notch, highly recommended, as a local I'll be back .

Recently discovered this place last month after living in the neighborhood for years and have been back 3 times since. The staff is always friendly and fairly attentive. Food is fantastic and it's nice to have some legit comfort food and not another bougie fusion option. The wet burrito is my go to and they get it right every time. When it comes to drinks they make some of the best margaritas and micheladas in the area. The one downside is the parking lot is small so it can be tough to find a spot during peak hours and street parking is only one hour.

If you know good Mexican food, welcome home. Home style, feel good, small joint with lots of class and culture. Karaoke, if you wanna come with a party - Just ask Bobby! ... EPIC

I found another hidden little gem. So close to home yet I never been here till last night when I decided to try something new. When entering the restaurant they have a small little bar to the right and about 6 or 7 tables Incase you want to dine in. Unfortunately I didn't have time to dine in so I ordered to go. I was greeted first thing when walking in and was seated I told him I was going to eat out and he said it was fine to take a seat and let him know when I was ready. So I sat and took a look at the menu and decided on two things the camarones al mojo de ajo, and the burrito mojado with mole coloradito. To drink I ordered an agua de Jamaica and agua de maracuya (passion fruit). Both drinks were incredible! So I took the food home so I might have had a bumpy ride and it showed with the camarones al mojo de ajo but despite how ugly it looked the shrimp was delicious perfectly seasoned and garlicky just how I like it the rice and beans hit the spot and as for my burrito I asked for it with no lettuce because lettuce does not belong on a burrito but everything about that burrito was incredible the mole was sweet just how I like it and it just felt like a complete dish mixture of both sweet and savory! Very impressed with last night dinner. parking is horrible tho only downside about this restaurant

A gem in the Culver City neighborhood. Great food, amazingly friendly staff, and the best happy hour in WLA

This place is the spot! The service is amazing! Immediately as I arrived I was greeted and seated and felt at home. They have the soccer game playing on a Sunday and created a great ambiance. I ordered a Maracuya (passion fruit drink) and I was skeptical that it was going to be too sweet but it reminded me of my childhood and the menudo was on point!

This isn't your…read moretraditional taco stand - it's definitely a more modern, hipster take on Texas-style breakfast tacos. But they execute it pretty well. One of my favorite morning routines is grabbing a coffee from Blue Bottle next door, then settling in at HomeState with my two favorite breakfast tacos: the Guadalupe and Don't Mess with Texas. Guadalupe - 4/5. I always order this on a corn tortilla. It comes with eggs, chorizo, and cheese, and the ingredients are decent. The portion is generous, with plenty of fluffy eggs that are cooked just right - not overdone or runny. The cheese melts nicely into the eggs, creating a good texture. The chorizo is decent, though it's the weakest component of an otherwise excellent taco. Also, I realized that the portion of chorizo has shrunk over the years. Don't Mess with Texas - 4/5. I'm generally not a fan of refried pinto beans, but this taco completely won me over. The combination of beans, bacon, potatoes, and cheese works surprisingly well, especially with the salsa verde. The flavors come together beautifully, making this one of the more satisfying breakfast tacos on the menu. I've tried a few of their other breakfast tacos, and they're all good. Still, I always find myself coming back to these two. HomeState offers two house salsas roja and verde, both with a brighter, more acidic profile than what you'd typically find at a taco shop. Usually that would be a bit problematic for regular tacos, but that acidity pairs well with the rich breakfast tacos. My only complaint is that I wish they packed more heat. Hot sauces are available, but I'd rather the house salsas bring the spice on their own. Even so, they're flavorful and complement the tacos well. Overall, I like my Blue Bottle coffee + 2 breakfast tacos combination, and will continue eating here.

I got home to find two giant pieces of lightly fried fish atop tortillas, and basically a full (almost ripe) avocado sliced in half, not cut up. All the other fixin's were on the side so you assemble everything yourself (cabbage, pico, chipotle sauce). Once everything was assembled, which took a while thanks to the tough avocado, I was hugely let down. Despite the large quantity of food, the quality was just not there. The fish was flaky and not overly fried, but it tasted like the ocean, not in a good way. SO so so much salt, yuck. Also disappointed by the sides. The black beans were quite runny, more liquid than beans, and the rice had a bunch of random veggies in there that took away from the dish. I'm sure there are many good things on the menu, but their fish taco meal just ain't it, sadly.

Love this place a lot and couldn't recommend it more highly. I was reading the reviews from others and it seems clear that this place resonates with people who appreciate the diverse and multi layered tastes of Mexico and who know about the nuances of the cuisine beyond tacos and margaritas. He motioned okay. While in the restroom maybe no more than 45 seconds; someone ambushed the door and tried to open it despite it being locked. I stated loudly 'occupied' twice and then again 'please knock'. After about 20 seconds there is a loud, frantically fast knock, almost a bang, that was immediately followed by someone aggressively trying to open the door over and over and over, I could see the door moving away from the door frame and the deadbolt lock moving and the door handle being pushed down to its max frantically several times. Again I yell 'occupied' several times and 'STOP'. They finally stopped. When I walked out, a very tall woman was standing so I asked her if she was the one who tried to come into the restroom while ignoring my yelling that it was occupied. She refused to respond. I asked the guy who was working at the register whom I had told I would be ordering when I walked in but that I needed to use the restroom and he said he was the one who tried the second time. At this point the tall woman goes into the restroom and I let him know that he needs to calm down and that I yelled a few times that the restroom was occupied but that he aggressively tried to open the door despite it being locked. He started to defend himself that he knocked, I stated that he should wait a moment for a response and that I gave a response right away several times, literally yelling, and he still tried to pry the door open. I thought there was maybe a fire or something as I never saw anyone try to open the door so aggressively. My heart was in my throat. At this point I try to leave and he gives me this snarky attitude 'oh so I thought you were going to order, you said you were going to order when you walked in before using the bathroom ' in that tone like a little kid mocking, I let him know that after what happened I will not be patronizing the restaurant today as what happened was unacceptable. He accused me of blaming the situation on him, giving my rubber neck the whole time, and I let him know that both him and the customer acted unreasonably, that I eat here almost daily and that all it takes is a light knock and that it is very easy to hear someone respond from inside the bathroom, I shouldn't have even had to of yelled but the door was literally being pulled off the hinges before I could even respond and I responded super fast. He then told me to finish and be done and leave even though I spoke to him fairly calmly with the exception that I was startled and set somewhat firm boundaries. Today you lost a customer who patronized your restaurant up to five times per week since I usually work on my computer most of the day next door and sometimes at Bennys while eating. This was the most traumatizing experience I've ever had using a public restroom and then being spoken like that.
