One of the few authentic places I've tried in the area! The ambience, music, and food are all very original and true to Mexican culture. Being someone who is from this type of background, I tend to have a hard time finding places that don't offer such. Juquila is also SO affordable while offering great portion sizes. Came in Friday night and they were busy, I sat at the small bar and was promptly attended by the server. He suggested this plate of mix meats. Traditional oaxacan dish. And it was spot on. Great recommendation. I also saw a parrilada going out and it look really good. But that's more for 2 or more persons. Good beer selección and Aguas frescas. I really recommend this place. We loved the food here. Their molcajete is massive and delicious with an assortment of meats and other fillings to make your own tacos. Their black mole is to die for it's sweet and Smokey. Small but very cozy atmosphere. They have plenty of tv's, it's a great place to watch all the games. The bar is a plus, and the guy behind it is very friendly and helpful- he came out several times to check on us. The aguas frescas are delicious and if I could go back every day for one, I would ! The food is very tasty too, we had the mole, molotes, and their special of the day- salsa de costillas. I had a minor issue with my dish, which was fixed right away. However, after a large party showed up, the waitress never came back to check on us. They might have just been understaffed that night. I simply love this place!!! Been a loyal customer for 5 years and just realized that I haven't done a review yet. With all of the restaurants only taking to-go or delivery this has been my go to for the past week. Got take out on Sunday and played it at home so it tastes extra home made. LOL The breakfast/brunch dishes, especially the menudo remind me of grandma's house. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My favorite anytime order is; a chicken mole tamale, a taco or two (chicken & al pastor) with a side of guacamole. They have a nice selection of Mexican beers and agave wine margaritas. It seems lately my taste has gone down and I have been picking meh places. I got a guacamole and a mole negro with nopal instead of chicken because fuck chicken. They made it from scratch thank god and it was a hole in the wall place with only local Mexicans in it which felt good. I've been dive hopping lately. What they could have done was put the nopal inside the tortillas instead of just put plain tortilla inside the sauce. read more

They didn't have bottled water, and that's a must for me. The tortilla chips were too greasy. The chips with mole was too expensive. Now the food was a bit too overpriced for what it was. The boo got some type of sizzling molcajete looking thing that came with 3 types of meat, nopales (cactus), grilled onion and oxacan cheese. In my opinion and in my guys everything was just so damn salty! The cheese and the meats. Not my favorite! But they do have a good caldo de pollo! Yum :-P!!! It's very cute in here! Came for the first time the other week during lunch. I thought it would be packed, but I was able to find a seat. It was 90% full. They have booths and tables. Airy, bright, good service. Got the shrimp tacos. They tasted great. Oddly, when they brought it out, it smelled strongly of fish so I was at first worried. Did not get sick and was fine so not sure what it was about. The chips and salsa were really good too. The salsa is HOT!!! I wish they took it down a smidge cause it was so hot. I would eat here again if a friend wanted to come! It's great for a sit down casual place. However, if you don't care about that and love $1.50 street tacos from the awesome taco food trucks all over LA, you might enjoy those more. read more

I decided to have my birthday lunch here because I wasn't familiar with Oaxaca cuisine and didn't have much mole experience either. Food was really good and the service was awesome. Love this place! I've come here twice with my wife (who doesn't usually like Mexican food) and we have both been very pleased with our meals. The mixed plate with different meats, cheese and cactus is hard to beat. The carne asada plate is great too. Had one of the best tlayuda's ever here. I do agree with other reviews that chips are very oily but the awesome salsa makes up for this. Both times the service from our hostesses has been fantastic. We've started coming to Juquila at least once a week now. Their rice and beans is simply the best in the game - I would pay good money for that alone! As simple as it is, their taco plate is fabulous, especially with perfectly charred carne asada. When it comes to Oaxacan food, we love their memelas, tlayudas, enmoladas, and costillas (not always on the menu). The staff are always so friendly and attentive and make us feel like family. Life is tough, but it's tougher if the meat in your burrito is tough, too. Villa Tacos isn't expensive, so, you can't expect the highest quality grub, but, man that Carne Asada was really tough Carne Hardada. I tried the Burrito Mojado ($7.99) with Carne Asada plus Rice, Beans, Onions, Cilantro, and Salsa topped with a thin Coloradito Sauce and melted Cheese. The light sauce, chewy tortilla, and sinewy beef was a tough combination. I probably should of stuck to the "tacos" at Villa Tacos. Complimentary Chips & Salsa are served for dine-in customers. The salsa was probably the best part of the meal. I added an order of Guacamole ($2.50) that was totally fine. It's a decent price and nice pair for the chips, but the guacamole couldn't save the burrito. Parking is totally free in the strip mall and the guy behind the counter was totally friendly/patient, too. Perhaps, I hit Villa Tacos on an off day. I stopped by Villa Tacos for lunch a couple of days ago while working in Culver City. Villa Tacos is located on a small strip mall on the corner of Venice and Clarington, that it shares with a bunch of other restaurants. The strip mall has a small parking lot but good luck finding parking at the peak lunch hour. When I entered I saw that the restaurant was about half full. Upon entering I was not sure if this was a counter service type of place or if I had to seat myself but a server quickly showed me to a table. Villa Tacos seems to be standard Mexican restaurant that has tacos, burritos, quesadilla, tostada salads and combo places that generally have rice, beans and some sort of meat. I saw that they had a Chicken Mole Negro ($9.99) dish on the menu so I decided to try that. After ordering I got the standard bowl of chips and salsa. The chips and salsa both seemed industrial but still enjoyable. Five minutes later I got the chicken mole negro. The first thing that struck me was this looked very shiny and had an intense deep color which was different from mole negro's that I've had. The taste was on the sweet side with a little bit of bite at the end. It lacked the intense heat that I've seen in some mole negro sauces or the earthy chalky consistency that I've experienced in other mole negro sauces. It felt a lot more monotonous without the complexity associated with mole negro. The chicken was perfectly cooked. It had the skin on but it slid off effortlessly leaving behind a nice moist piece of meat on the bone. This was not the best mole negro that I have had but it was pretty good in its own right. Price-wise it was fine for the Culver City location. Villa Tacos definitely has potential so I would probably add it to my lunch rotation if I was still working in the area. read more
