The chicken teriyaki bowl was as advertised - chicken, white rice, a bit of green onion if you desire, and 2 small containers; teriyaki sauce and sriracha sauce. Nice sized portion. I did not like that some of the small pieces still had the skin on them. The flavor was fine. The place was totally gloomy. The service was okay. Speedy. We used to stop every time through Barstow. I read all the positive reviews and felt disappointed after going there now. A lot of people do takeout apparently. Most likely will not be returning. read more

Do stop in here when you're hungry. Just Grill It is a diamond in the desert. The food here is excellent perfect grill marks and flavorful teriyaki, and a delightful salad dressing. We stopped in here for lunch as we were traveling through and I think we found our new favorite food stop between Southern California and Flagstaff (a trip we make often). We were a little behind the normal lunch rush time (maybe 1:30pm) and there was a steady stream of people ordering inside and using the drive thru. Don't expect a beautiful dining room but do expect and really tasty teriyaki meal. The counter person was super patient with a customer that kept asking for additional sauces, to be fair the customer was definitely a regular and friendly. I would like to see them paint the ceiling in the dining room and I will edit this post if that upgrade is made but let me talk about the food. We had the chicken and steak bowls and there was zero fat and zero gristle which is one of the things that made this a five star lunch. The sauce was good, rice was perfect and the vegetables were nice and fresh. When we visited this bowl was $13 and more than we could eat. A great value for sure. read more

Barstow Station is of course the main attraction but if you just look across the street, you can find this hidden gem directly next to the gas station across from the burger place that starts with a T It's not the most attractive place but they are serving up some great food. My steak bowl had an unacceptable amount of chopped gristle masquerading as beef and the rice was dried out and crusty in places. The Yelpers who gave this place a high rating must have been out of their minds with hunger when they ate the food here. I would have done better buying corn dogs and potato wedges at the Flying J gas stop. I'm actually much more impressed with what they serve than what I purchased here. Just got done eating lunch at Just Grill It, in Barstow, on our way home from Vegas. We all wanted something that wasn't going to make us feel sluggish and tired, when we got back in the car, but we also didn't want to sit forever. Just Grill It fit the bill perfectly, with just enough on the menu (chicken, beef, salmon, tilapia, shrimp, salad) to please everyone, and nothing too heavy or greasy. Two of us had the combo beef and chicken plate, with green onions, and one of us had a chicken rice bowl. Both the chicken and beef were nicely charred but still tender, and everything was served with sides of teriyaki and hot sauce. It was easy to see this is a family-run spot, with what looked like a variety of family members running the different functions of the restaurant. Everyone seemed relaxed and generally happy to be around each other, which made for a relaxing dining experience. In the middle of our meal, someone came in and began digging in the trash for food. One of the staff offered to make this person a meal, rather than leaving them to dig for scraps or chasing them off. It was a very tender moment, with no drama, just an open-hearted person offering sustenance to someone who needed it. It made me so happy to be supporting an establishment that cares about the people in their community, I left a little extra something for the staff in the tip jar and will be SURE to stop again, the next time we're headed that way. read more

We stopped here on our way to Arizona to grab something fast and yummy to eat. Got excited when I saw the reviews about the food. Unfortunately we didn't try the rib plate which seems to be pretty popular - also it was $18 something and we didn't feel like spending that much for a rice plate. I got the half and half rice bowl: half chicken half beef over rice with green onions on top. The chicken was great - moist and cooked well. I was not a fan of the beef - was a bit chewy and flavor was boring. I did enjoy the char/grill taste from both meats though. The rice was fluffy and plentiful. Teriyaki sauce was also really good. Two of the half/half bowls cost about $22 - not bad for the amount of food that you get. I finished my meat and had about half the rice leftover. Service was quick, young girl at the front took our order and food came out pretty fast. They pack them in plastic togo bowls which is nice if you have leftovers you want to take home (or for your drive). The inside is small; there are several tables, and there is also a drive thru option. read more
