When you are celebrating your anniversary, you want the best of everything. Our server, Robert and the food at Ko, was exactly that. We walked from our resort because of the ratings (and vegan options) at Ko. What we found was an amazing experience that highlighted our anniversary. Though the vegan options were not on the lunch menu, Robert was quick to let us know what they had. We ordered the curry and Jasmine rice as our meal. To say it was fantastic is not a strong enough adjective. Robert's suggestions for drinks were also on point. Overall, an experience we won't soon forget. The prices are typically high for resort dining in Maui but the ambiance, service and food are well worth the price. Robert told us he's been at Ko for 6 years and we hope he will stay for many more. 5 star service; 5 star food; 5 star atmosphere! Definitely check out Ko, and Robert, if you stay anywhere on Maui. What a nice spot. We ate dinner here at a wedding reception. We had a nice private table. Staff was friendly & quick. It did take awhile to get apps, but I think there was a miscommunication about when they should bring them out. They waited until the bride & groom cake, but they wanted their guests to start ahead of them. For apps we had- ahi on the rock, lavender honey crisp shrimp, chicken and mushroom lumpia, and pork belly buns. Everyone enjoyed everything. I didn't eat any as I don't like seafood & am gluten free. There was also coconut curry soup and a salad. Four entrées there was lemon grass coconut broth fresh catch, zarzuela, paniolo bone in ribeye, and grilled lamb chops. I had the rib eye. It was good. My boys had Mac n cheese, which they enjoyed. My 2nd time here. 1st experience was excellent, I had a male waiter (older man, don't remember his name) but he was really on it, awesome! He was very persistent but not too buggy with his service. Never missed a beat! 2nd experience I made reservations, had to wait a little while to be seated. My waitress was a woman (didn't catch her name either) she was good with explaining to us what the specials was, we asked if certain things foods were included in the special meal for the night that we had ordered, she said yes, but when the food came, it had nothing of it. She barley checked on us, she had a nice attitude but my experience the 2nd time was nothing compared to the first! I really thought highly of this restaurant with the first service I got, this time around I'm second guessing myself if I'd recommend coming back. Especially if we pay the price we pay, all people want are great customer service. Kō is nice, the food we ordered was ok. I came here to celebrate my girlfriends birthday, we both enjoyed the sakē and the Happy birthday dessert they brought out to us! Went here for dinner with my partner for our anniversary date night. The view was beautiful of the sunset, they lit torch lights as the sun went down too. The staff gave us a free dessert at the end of our meal celebrating us and our anniversary. The food was super delicious. Only thing I know my partner would have asked for was more on his plate. I got a meat-free meal Spicy Soba Noodle and the food was plentiful, he got the fish special and it was half the size of my dish. Thank goodness for that free dessert haha. First time dining at Ko. Have been to pretty much every restaurant on Wailea over the past few years and don't know how I missed this one. Interesting concept- fusion of cuisines from cultures early in Maui history. Seated on time, nice intimate setting. Wasn't sure on wine- manager came, gave great advice and even offered to take bottle back if we did not like it. Unusual but very nice. Friendly and knowledgeable server too. Hot stone Ahi was excellent since you can control your own sear. Filipino chicken and mushroom spring rolls excellent with light batter. Mongjong catch of the day excellent with lemongrass and rice. All executed well, fresh ingredients.To finish off, house made banana bread. Inadequate description- it's like sticky toffee pudding but way better- rum sauce, pecans for crunch, ice cream. Makes Gordon Ramsey's STP look poor. Best dessert I can remember. I'd go here again even just for dessert. We will go back. read more

We scheduled reservations here for our anniversary mainly because it was almost the only place on the island with a reservation available. It was a really nice environment, a little more casual than I anticipated but it is Hawaii. The food was great, I especially loved the shrimp tempura with the honey sauce. They made a great virgin margarita as well. The Lime pie was my favorite dessert. The star loss is because the waitress got busy with other guests at some point and we didn't even see her for probably an hour. Ko is conveniently located at the Fairmont. My family dined here a few times during our stay. I was impressed with every meal that I had. The appetizers menu is excellent for people who are laying by the pool and need to stop by the bar quickly for a bite to eat. They also have a dining room for people who are looking for a sit down lunch. During my trip, I tried the following items off of the lunch menu: spring rolls, fried rice, Korean sweet & sour pork, and the Hawaiian sweet BBQ pork flatbread pizza. All of the dishes were good, but the flatbread pizza was my favorite, by far. The pork was so tender and flavorful. It was cooked in a delicious Hawaiian sweet and sour sauce with pineapple salsa. I loved it! It was one of my favorite dishes of the entire trip! I also stopped at Ko for dinner a couple of times. My favorite dish was the Lobster Tempura and pineapple chili dipping sauce. A lot of times restaurants use too much breading and not enough meat in tempura dishes. This was not the case at Ko. They were extremely generous with the lobster. The tempura was light and perfectly cooked. The meals were always served hot, which makes the food so much better. I also tried the ahi tuna appetizer. The raw ahi tuna is served on a plate with a scalding hot stone and skewers. You sear the tuna on the hot stone for as long as you would like to cook it. It was a fun idea. Everything that we tried was absolutely delicious. All of the dishes were presented beautifully. The service at Ko is also excellent. We had one server, Austin, who was particularly friendly and attentive. He was great at making recommendations and fielding questions. read more

This New Years Eve was the second time we've dined at Ko. We love that they can accommodate large parties and we can bring our entire family. Did some serious research trying to find what was the best Sunday buffet on Maui. There are very few reviews post pandemic. We ended up selecting Ko located in the Fairmont hotel. Brunch was $90 a person and included all you could eat buffet , coffee, tea, and juices. Alcoholic drinks were extra. Buffet has a healthy selection of fresh raw fish including several types of tuna poke and sushi rolls. There is a full breakfast bar, egg station, roast beef, peeled shrimp and a desert bar. We came away satisfied for the price. This Buffet didn't have crab or cooked fish fillets when we went. Roast beef was very fresh and carved as you watch. Oyster shooters are available for addition charge ( per oyster ). Live music, nice outdoor seating. Parking is free. There is a very nice seaside paved walk you can take directly from the hotel's beach access before or after brunch if you are visiting the area. While we didn't go, all research points to the four seasons located next door to the Fairmont as the alternative high end buffet on the island. ( $140 per person ) Ritz Carlton morning and Sunday buffet is very small selection by comparison to Fairmont. read more

Just got back from having dinner here + I absolutely loved it, along with my very picky Filipino parents. We headed over here to celebrate their 37th wedding anniversary (yay!) for an early dinner to catch the sunrise as we were finishing up dessert. Our servers Hannah, who was our primary waitress, was very lovely and knowledgeable and Mario, who cleared our tables and filled up our waters was a great guy my parents loved talking with. Hannah explained that they were currently doing a "Buy One, Get One" for their pupus + entrees which made selecting our food a lot easier. I tried to resist ordering the Rib-Eye steak since everyone on here ordered it but it was juicy and paired very well with the mashed taro and steamed vegetables. My mom got the special which was the swordfish over mashed potatoes and topped with stuffed lobster tail + my seafood-loving dad enjoyed the Zarzuela but did say it was a bit too salty for his palette. For dessert we got the Ohana Style KO desserts which were basically samples of the chantilly cake, maui vanilla bean creme brulee, & pao doce frito. It is a bit more expensive but since it was a special occasion, I do feel like my bill came out to a worthy experience and meal. +Parking tip: There's a parking lot as soon as you enter where you don't need to pay which is fantastic. You don't need to get anything validated either, you just park and walk a bit (but walking after the big dinner is a good idea) +Resort tip: There's a lot of ground to walk around and look at once dinner is done for pictures and strolls. They don't have many vegetarian options, only two, but they also said they are able to change some of the other entrees into vegetarian if we would like, which was nice. To make is easier we stuck to their 2 vegan menu items: (5 stars) The Thai curry was really good! Great flavor and my husband liked it so much that he finished the whole thing! (2 stars) I got the vegetable fried rice - don't get this! No flavor whatsoever! I had to ask for a side of the curry sauce to at least add some decent flavor to it since it was very bland. Their Drinks were great! (5 stars) Lemongrass and mint mocktail was so good! Their dessert was just okay: (2 star) Crime brûlée had no flavor and needed more vanilla bean. We also got a nice "congrats dessert" pineapple cake treat on the house for our special occasion. This was pretty good! Their complimentary bread and dip entree wasn't that good. The round chip was stale and the dips were not flavorful. Overall a decent place for a fancy dinner. Very friendly staff which made our experience much better, and they do have decent food for the most part. Very disappointing. Based on the reviews, I thought this would be one of best resort meals. Service was good but food was mediocre. We had the tempura shrimp (which was great), the short rib (meh...tasted like pot roast, not Asian) and the lau lau (meh, very bland and only one note (coconut)). This meal cost a fortune so it was so disappointing that it was so meh. Also, the setting of this restaurant leaves much to be desired, no ocean view. We ate at both Fairmont restaurants and we really wish we'd gone elsewhere. read more

Located inside the Fairmont hotel with complimentary valet parking. We had a difficult time finding this restaurant (no proper signs) but after a few wrong turns, we found it downstairs and to the left of the entrance. This was our first meal in Maui and it was great! Our waitress even offered to take a photo of us. The tuna salad was awesome! Their famous spring rolls we're not that great, soggy and falling apart. The Asian soup with bok choy and shrimp was tasty. The minced chicken lettuce wraps were OK, nothing special, but we were hungry and left satisfied with our meal. We had gone to a Sunday brunch near the Fairmont for ten years. We went there for the first Sunday in March and we were very disappointed in the added costs as well as the reduced food selections. We decided to go to the Fairmont for the next three Sundays after receiving great reviews from people we knew. We were not disappointed. The ahi tuna was fresh and tender. The Korean beef and chicken were well prepared as was the egg foo young. Great variety from salmon to shrimp and hash. Bacon and French toast were added treats as was the dessert selection and fruit bowls. A variety of salads ranged from sea weed to a variety of greens. Well done. There were some highs and lows for dinner at Ko, so my overall consensus is 3 stars. I was drawn here after seeing videos of people searing their own ahi on a lava rock. I seemed like a bucket list item I just had to do once in Hawaii. Ko is located inside the Fairmont Hotel and to me, the atmosphere feels like a hotel restaurant. I like the idea behind the design of the restaurant: that it is completely open to the outside and overlooking the beautiful hotel grounds. However, like other Yelpers have mentioned, it is extremely hot and stuffy. I love the heat and am in full winter attire when it is below 75 degrees, but I was sweaty and felt like I couldn't breath throughout the 8PM dinner. Food was very hit or miss. The ahi poke on the lava rock that I was looking forward to was just okay. I love the idea, it was great for photos, but the actual taste was just ok. The rock was not hot enough to get a really good sear on the outside of the tuna and I was disappointed that there were only three pieces I had excellent ahi tuna every single day that I was in Hawaii and this tuna was not better quality than anything else I tried. After reading Yelp reviews, I was also looking forward to the bread platter. Some of the pieces I had were stale and it was overall unmemorable. For entrees I tried the Paniolo ribeye and the monchong catch of the day with lemongrass coconut broth. The Paniolo ribeye was spectacular!!! One of the best dishes I've had in Hawaii. The steak had a crisp sear and was cooked to a perfect medium rare. It was well flavored and juicy. While the ribeye was excellent, the monchong was on the other side of the spectrum. The waitress recommended this dish to me stating its a favorite of all of the staff. Needless to say, I set my expectations too high. While it was plated beautifully, I found the fish to be the most bland dish I've ever had at a restaurant of this repute. The fish was dry and likely overcooked. The broth was tasteless. I took a few bites and had to eventually ask for salt, which made the fish slightly more palatable. I am a seafood lover and a fan of southeastern Asian flavors. This was a huge miss. I had the shave ice for dessert after seeing awards posted at the entrance for best shaved snow for multiple years. This is not your traditional syrupy shave snow. They use red bean and coconut milk (flavors I love) and some fruit topping. The actual shave snow was decent but it was topped with mochi that was inedible. Literally the worst mochi I've ever had. It was hard and crumbled like chalk in my mouth. Service was just weird in that way it can be at nice restaurants where you know people are paid to be overly nice to you. The waitress was sweet and tried to be attentive when she was present. Plates were cleared quickly but there were many moments where I wanted a refill on water and there was no one to be found. Ko is an outstanding restaurant for a special occasion. Located on the sea level floor of the Fairmont (Kealani) in Wailea, the outer tables offer a relaxing ocean sunset view. Our server, Celina, was knowledgable, friendly and attentive. It is a pricey restaurant, but offers an extremely generous Kama'aina discount which shows their appreciation for Local patronage. The cocktails were imaginative and their wine list very extensive. The appetizers are a real highlight. We had the Ahi On The Rock appetizer that you sear on a hot rock with tasty dipping sauces. The Lavender Honey Macadamia Nut Shrimp were prepared in a light batter and were delicious. Chef Tyler Pang knows his culinary art! Our main courses were a splendid Zarzuela which is a Spanish version of cioppino with tender lobster, scallops, shrimp, New Zealand green lip mussels, clams and chorizo in a nice saffron broth with toasty bread to dip. Ono! The grilled lamb chops were of excellent quality, tender with subtle coconut curry flavor with mango mint salsa. We shared a vegetable fried rice with chicken which was good, albeit a bit bland. We moved to the Kihei/Wailea area about six months ago. Friends in our neighborhood took us to Ko about a month later. We had a great meal. Since then we have been back two more times, bringing friends who are visiting from the Mainland. Service has always been attentive, warm and enthusiastic. Kudos to our server LeeAnne, who is absolutely fantastic! We love starting with the Ahi which you sear on a hot rock, and we also love the shrimp appetizer. The scallops/shrimp/fish served on a bed of Udon noodles (I think it's the pancit dish) is amazing. The once-weekly fish steamed in a banana leaf is yummy. One friend had the pork chop and demolished it. We haven't had a single bad meal there. Everything is "ono" (good). Only once have we had enough appetite for dessert, and all of the desserts we tried were very good. Go to Ko! read more
