Owner of the company does not have a professional system of booking a move and doing the research of what you need moved in order to bring the correct truck, quote the job more accurately, and prepare the movers well. Movers at this company are very hard working but they where not set up for success with my most recent move. I used this company twice in the past and had a good experience. Used them for a third time on good faith and wish I would have checked the more recent reviews here, the other lower ratings found here are very similar to what I experienced. Never received any paperwork, receipt, or contracts so truly nothing could have been done to make me pay the final cost, which was much higher than anticipated, that I was charged. I am an honest person so I paid but the owner insulting had his driver wait out front of new home until I did so. Overall not a good experience. If I could leave zero stars I would. Update to this review, they moved a mattress that was supposed to be left at the first location, they brought it back to the original location and told me they would clean it because it was perfect to begin with and got dirty in their moving truck as they did nothing to protect it, looking at the mattress now it is still dirty, was not cleaned, is on the first floor when it was supposed to be left upstairs. I hired Ken based on recommendation of my storage facility. Ken and his crew were nice and personable. I was quoted a time and price. It was double what I was quoted. That was the first shoc, esp bc my husband and I also loaded and hauled carts to help bc of the time factor and lack of hustle at times. Ken oversaw the packing in the truck. He repeatedly said how good he was and he'd take care of our families valuables. All of the crates/boxes were very clearly marked with fragile goods. We pointed out particular items even that needed special care. Everything was prepacked. The job was simply to unload from storage unit and professionally and appropriately pack items into our 26' moving truck. We only made it to San Antonio (from Katy) when truck malfunction required a stop. The trucking company decided they would pay a professional moving company to unload our goods into a new truck form our cross country move. As we stood and watched these movers transfer our goods from one truck to another we were totally surprised to find a MESS of a loading job!! Multiple broken items, smashed boxes and broken crates. In what universe would someone put a heavy duty plastic crate that weighs at least 30-40 lbs on top of a cardboard box that is marked fragile??!!! The full extent of the damage remains to be seen as we arrive at our final destination and open all the smashed items. I can't imagine the level of loss if we hadn't actually stopped a mere 2.5 hrs into our cross country move. Unacceptable!! I am posting this in hopes someone else doesn't have this misfortune and disappointment!! Bad Points: - Quoted for 3-4 hours @ $125/hr - Ended up taking 7.25 hours because I had "long hallways". The storage I moved my PACKED UP FURNITURE to is 500 feet from my apartments. - Broke my plant (I'm not really tripping on that but still) - I tipped the movers $50/mover (cash), the owner proceeded to add tip in my total - Workers took breaks, wasn't deducted from the total time - Talked to the owner (Kevin Johnson Jr.) after payment to rectify the issues. He stated because I SAID the movers were good to go then he doesn't owe me anything, and I'm just looking for a reason to get some money back. So this was my second time using K&C and it was very different from the first. I booked my move 3 weeks in advance, so scheduling wasn't going to be an issue no matter which mover I used. I had a great first experience with them. Their rates are comparable to other moving companies. On my first move, I actually moved within my exact same building, just a few floors up. They moved everything in my place. On the second move, I moved to a different building but it was literally right up the street just a few blocks. What was different the second time I used K&C? A LOT!! I actually had far fewer things for them to move. I already moved A LOT this time around. Everything was packed and ready to go. I was far more prepared than last time. This time, I was told that there were things they could not move. They said no wall art, pictures, electronics also (TVs) and everything had to be in boxes. How is that even possible?!? My last move, they moved everything for me. It's beyond upsetting to spend $400 on a 3 hour move, only to still have items that you will have to move yourself. During the move, things just seemed to go very slow. There were several points where KJ had to tell the guys to move faster and also they were "disappearing" for fairly long time periods. He tried to call them several times and they did not answer their cell phones. In addition to that, my new building has a special key for the freight elevator for moves. Within the first trip, they lost the key which I was told to "guard with my life". When we finally recovered the key (time lost that they charged me for), I had to follow them the entire time and keep the key myself to work the freight elevator. The first time I used them they moved everything and it was only a two hour move. This time, I had considerably less amount of items for them to move, and it took 3 hours. Also, this time they did not cover my mattress. I left a white sheet covering my mattress. The originally clean sheet was very dirty and covered in hand prints when we got to my new place. I'm grateful that I kept the sheet on my mattress because it would've been ruined. Also, my white leather couch had hand prints all over it, scuffs on the leather on the corners (it had never been moved so the scuffs were not there previously), and rub/dirt marks all over it. I provided my own moving blankets and furniture wrap. They didn't use theirs. As if all that wasn't enough, this time there was an issue with the payment system. The last time I used K&C. I paid by credit card, had a receipt, and everything was documented. I told KJ that I will be paying by credit card when I booked. He had mentioned that his "credit card system was down", but he had 3 weeks before my move. He assured me he would be able to get it fixed by the time of my move. This time? I received an invoice initially when I booked my move but the day of the move, when it came time to pay, I was told that I would have to pay through a cash app system (which I do not have) or they would follow me to the ATM to get cash. I cannot tell you how awkward it is, as a female, to literally be followed to an ATM. In addition to that, I have no receipt!! My apartment complex is paying a portion of my move and I have no receipt from them! I was told, when they followed me to the ATM and I gave them the cash, that I would receive a receipt. I have had to text and email asking for a receipt, and still have not received one. This whole second experience to me was extremely unprofessional and completely different from my first great experience. I'm sad to sad to say I wouldn't recommend them and will not use their services again. *** UPDATE*** within minutes of me posting this review, I finally heard back. However it was not what I was expecting. I expected to finally get a receipt for the $400 cash payment I made. Looks like I'm a rare 4 star review! Ken, I know you're reading this, so don't be upset! On to the review: I hired Ken & his team to pack my home on Thursday & move us on Friday. They are the nicest guys you'll ever meet & they were always on time. They moved all of our things efficiently, but we did get a ceramic clock broken. Still unsure of what happened there. Also, our master bed frame got dinged, but it's nothing a little wood finisher can't fix. Moving isn't easy.. stuff's going to get messed up. Deal with it. Now on to the packing.. I think we have very high expectations of our packing since, as expats, we get moved by our company quite often & those movers will just throw EVERYTHING in a box, & it's a complete whirlwind going on around you. This was a bit slower paced & quite a few things were left that I was scrambling to grab on moving day. I expect I set the bar too high & maybe it's unrealistic for an inner city move to operate the same way as a company funded international move. My advice if you're having them pack you is to make it very clear that you want EVERYTHING packed from the start, & tell the entire team at the same time. If you want the fridge/freezer emptied, tell them all! Don't be a frazzled mess like I was . One last comment, because things were a bit disorganized on my end, it took a lot longer to move than expected.. obviously this is a direct correlation to price, so be up front about everything, & I mean everything you have to move, it adds up quick! Their prices are much more reasonable than the competitors' so if you can be organized it can happen in the timeframe expected. However I did use a company based out of Houston for my previous move and it didn't go so great. I had a 2/2 and it took them about 8hours to do the move. So for this time I knew exactly what to do in preparation of my upcoming move. So I contacted K and C via yelp for a quote and within minutes got a reply. I was most impressed because the only time I could find the time to look up companies was late at night and this was the only company to reply. That same night I had a invoice with a quote, reserved my reservation for moving and spoke with the manger(Ken) to ensure all my questions were answered. Now if that's not A-1 service I'm not sure what is. Another point in this move was that during the move a light fixture was broken due to large furniture pieces and it was totally by mistake( I contacted my realtor and got a quote on the price for the light) immediately Ken took responsibility and deducted that from our price in moving and asked was there anything else that needed to be taken Care of. They moved our 4 bedroom 3 story home in just about 6 hours. The lack of the one star would come from the size of the moving truck they had. Simply put....Amazing! I'll start with the excellent communication used before and upon arrival (which was on time). When the movers arrived, we devised a quick game plan for how to most efficiently complete the move. Once they started moving they didn't slow down or stop until the job was done. At one point we were faced with a challenge of moving a large couch through a small door. The movers quickly came up with a plan to remove the feet on the couch and the door off the hinges. This company does not deserve one star. The owner Ken, sent me two movers to move from a one bedroom condo. He advised me it would be cheaper if I provided my own truck. He stated his guys were professional in every way and were qualified. Not only was I uncomfortable with how they stacked my storage, I questioned if anything was broken, which is why i requested the same movers, that he declined to send when requested 3 days prior to DOS. My items were only in storage for 2 weeks. Today I pulled out the flat screen TV, it was shattered. When I called Ken, he said his company was not liable because I did not use the company truck!! His movers have no idea what they are doing, he is not insured and he is not professional. When I contacted him, he blocked my number. If you want a half done job, broken items with no accountability, this is your company!! Bent legs on my couch instead of removing them, and shattered my TV, and broke a glass dresser, shame on this bootleg company. Will break your things and refuse to pay for them . He never told me that using my own truck means that I am not suing his company and that he would Not be liable if anything happens to my things. After break omg my TVs he told me I should have asked him for that information. I called the owner, the guy in the orange shirt and requested to be moved on Saturday he said he did not have a truck available but he did have some movers that he could send out for $65 an hour. I asked them to put my 70 inch TV in the box. The TV were not put in the box and they were not wrapped at all and when i went to plug up the TVs that night the were both cracked in the same spot. When texted the owner about the tvs he insisted on coming to my house to see the damage But remember (I didn't hire his company). He comes to my house and insinuates that I broke the TVs myself and I just wanted him to pay for them. It was explained to him that the young man brought the TVs in the house by himself and sat the TVs facing the stone fireplace where we could not see the actual face of the TV. I did not look at the TVs until later that night the owner offered us $300 while stating he not responsible, I refused the offer. He spoke my husband and offered $500 for 1000 dollar TV. We refused both offers, the owner is now stating that he's contacted a lawyer his lawyer and is refusing to pay for the TVs . He is claiming that we did not have a contract and I didn't hire his company. He is stating I paid the workers that he sent, but this man told me to give the cash to his Nephew Shaq and then the owner even came to my house to pick up his money from his nephew and talked to me and my mom. This is very disheartening that someone would do people like this when I paid for a service and tipped the guys. One of the movers was very genuine and empathetic and I really appreciate that that but the owner who's number is on the add and I have been in contact with from the beginning is very dishonest and will not pay for things that are broken. Incredible service! I was referred by a friend for a last minute Harvey move and overall I have nothing but great things to say about Ken and his company! I have used K and C First Class Moving twice within the past 4 months due to Harvey issues. Ken was incredibly polite and was able to get my stuff moved the next day, which was pretty amazing considering all other movers were booked for at least a few days due to post Harvey issues. Everything was wrapped, boxed up and moved to my temporary location with care and in a great amount of time! A few months and a more permanent address later, I hired K and C First Class Moving again because of the awesome service and great rate I was given with my first move.
