Yikes! I took my 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT in to Kmotion because, according to their website, they have a passion for older and classic cars, which mine is. I have some mechanical skills but I could not solve an egr (check engine code) issue, though I did point out a component with a vacuum leak for them. My turn signals had also stopped working, right first then eventually the left. And, though I have replaced multiple steering and suspension components, I was getting wandering, pulling and every imperfection in the road was causing the steering wheel to feel sloppy, more so at highway speeds. I told the service manager Greg all this when I called to see about getting it in. So I take it in, and apparently Greg didn't write down any of the info I had given him, so I go over the issues again with him and take him out to point out the component with the vacuum leak. Then Greg tells me that "it's gonna be a lot more work (which I interpreted as a lot more $) cause older vehicles aren't as easy to hook up to the machine". I asked him what machine that was and he replied the one to diagnose the check engine codes and that further more these old vehicles clear the codes every time the engine is turned off. I told him he was wrong on both accounts, that it is a matter of simply bridging 2-pins on a plug with a paper clip to get the codes to blink out on the dash and I told him the codes that I had pulled. He said it would be $100 in any case. About an hour later, Greg calls up to inquire if the turn signals stopped working when I had an interlock device installed. I said no, prior to. He then calls to ask me where the plug is to obtain the codes as it was "not where it is supposed to be". I told him it is where it is supposed to be and told him where to locate it. When he called to let me know what they had found, he said the throttle position sensor was bad. I said no, I have replaced that and when I cleared the codes, the tps code did not return. He mentioned nothing about the component I pointed out with the vacuum leak. He then said my wheel bearings needed to be repacked. I asked him if he thought this is what was causing the steering issues because I had replaced bad bearings on the right front and both hubs and bearings on the back. He replied by asking me why I would only replace the bearings on one side of the front, meaning to me he had no idea what is causing my steering issues. He then said I had 2 different tires on the front. I said no, I do not. 215's on the back and 205's on the front and he said that was just what he was told. Lastly, he said I need a new turn signal switch and that it was gonna be a "big job". I asked him what he meant by that. He said the steering column would need to be removed and that he needed to get the part and that wasn't gonna happen today. This was at 2pm after dropping the car at 9am. I then told him I would come down, pay an inspection fee and pick my car up and find somebody who actually has some knowledge and passion about classic cars, just like their website indicated. In my opinion, Greg needs to develop some people skills and learn a little bit about cars. Not everybody is ignorant and can be taken advantage of. He still insisted the plug from which check engine codes are obtained should have been up under the driver side dash, and that it was under a piece it should not have been under (I have a fiero aftermarket leather arm rest). Due to circumstances beyond my control, my poor '96 Dodge has been neglected over the past few years in regards to any kind of up keep, short of what was absolutely necessary. Telling most places this, they see dollar signs and want to give me a mile long list. When I talked with K-Motion, they looked at it and gave me a list only of what needed to be done. I got the super important things done, but still need to take it back for a few other little things. My truck is running MUCH better and I am not afraid to drive it anymore. While I am not an expert on autos, I am not an idiot either and I appreciate that K-Motion did not try to take advantage of me and their prices are reasonable. Very pleased with the work done on my drive shaft and replacing my lower ball joints and control arms. Looks like a brand new truck from underneath.
