We really enjoyed the takeout we got from this place. Being vegetarian we felt like there was plenty to choose from in the entrees going beyond the standard falafel. I ordered the grilled vegetable kabob which on that day was mushrooms and onions. The sides that come with the entrees are delicious, especially the tabouli. Wow. This place is just delicious. Tiny spot, fabulous food. The kebabs are . I would post a photo, but we inhaled the fragrant food pretty quickly! This is my second time visiting - the first was a business lunch. So - not a fluke. A sweet couple from Iran own the place - real mom and pop shop. Hummus is good. Feta plate is yum. The only aspect of the meal that i hoped would be different is the bread. The aps were served with pita pocket bread made at a local bakery - but other Persian restaurants serve fresh made Persian style bread. For a low key meal, the price and flavor cant be beat. My favorite go to Persian food in the area is Kabob Cafe! They are tucked away on the corner of Dulles and Highway 6! You can't miss them because they have this beautiful teal food truck parked in the parking lot! When you go in, grab a menu, stand in line, and place your order! I always order the #35 their beef koubideh kabob plate! It comes with basmati rice (or salad)...but choose the basmati rice because why wouldn't you?, grilled onions and tomatoes! The first time I tried to visit here, they had actually run out of food. I was a bit annoyed, but I decided to give them another shot and I'm glad I did. I had the Chicken Kabob and my son had the Beef Koobideh. The food was piping hot when we received it and the meat was extremely juicy. You could tell they used very fresh meat. The taste was absolutely delicious. My immediate thought was, "My God. I don't have to drive all the way out to Hillcroft anymore." This was definitely MUCH better than most Persian joints on Hillcroft. I usually never finish the rice, but this rice was so dang good that both my son and I cleaned out plates. And I didn't even put butter in the rice like I usually do. One negative was that they don't give you any complementary bread and feta like most Persian restaurants do. Also, the owner seems to have a very dry but polite demeanor. I don't know, maybe he was having a bad day. The service was overall excellent, nonetheless. Food: Appetizer platter - cold hummus,White yogurt dip, something wrapped in grapeseed leaves, and tabouli. They served this with pita bread. This was ok... Its just ok. Its not the best Persian/mediterranean i've had, nor the worst. I ordered the lamb meat gyro, hubby ordered the Santorini's gyro and the bread his was wrapped in, was much better than the tough wrap mine was wrapped in. When I think Gyro, I think more of the naan bread type wrap then the tortilla-type wrap. They are not overly generous with meat either, it was lots of wrap vs not much filling. It's just a cafe so don't expect a lot of customer service focus. I got the chicken and beef with rice. I personally liked the beef more than the chicken. The chicken was a bit too salty for me, but it was still yummy. Meat is tender. Not rough or chewy at all. The basmati rice seasoned perfectly. Grilled tomato was sweet and delicious. Tzatziki sauce was ok. #5 Beef Koubideh Kabob $9.95 - hubby ordered this. The kabobs were bigger than they looked in the pics, but again, it wasn't that flavorful, although I think it was a bit more tasty than the lamb gyro. Our first time to try this place. We ordered Chix and beef kabobs with jewel rice. The meat are Moist and seasoned to perfection. We love it and the price is really really reasonable. The service was excellent too. We ordered online, they gave us time to pick up, when we drove and notified them that we're at the curve side, someone came with our orders on time and with a big smile. Everything was amazing. We had the beef gyro, appetizer sampler (hummus, tzatsiki, tabouli), side of fries, chocolate mousse for dessert. Even the fries were special. But, the lamb shank.... Nice "hole in the wall, mom & pop" place to grub on some tasty Persian food. Their lamb shank was awesome when my boyfriend ordered it. It was on the "today's special" menu, so I'm not sure how often they serve it... but hopefully it's every week. The meat falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. The hummus is good, the pita bread is good, the gyro sandwiches are good...what else is good? Um. The french fries are 'meh'. I'd order the rice instead. The couple that owns the place are very sweet! Service can be slow, but it's just them two working, so I understand. They have a little table where you can get your condiments: olive oil, pepper, ketchup, paprika, etc. Very convenient! The ambience can improve, but I'm not going for the atmosphere. We got: Chelo Kabob - very tender and very flavorful meats (we asked for 1/2 beef, 1/2 chicken) Kavkazi Kabob - I didn't personally taste this, but my picky dad finished the whole thing Veggie Kabob - I thought the mushrooms were a bit on the salty side, but they were still good. A Persian/Greek restaurant with a friendly and welcoming staff, great food in an understated street side grill. Dogman and I was taken in the whole interior, it's like a small studio where a painter rode the inspirations and using the wall as his canvas. A picture of a seaside town, with vast mountain side estates over looking the sea port from top of the sharply rising hills. Then you order and sit. In Dogman's case, enough for a horse and some. The Food: Chicken koobideh- a fantastic small wrap with a cooling sauce swirled like vine through tender grilled chicken pieces. A Hummus- Perfectly fresh with a squirt of olive oil. Fits perfect with the smooth pita bread. A Orange Blossom drink- This was a refreshing beverage that has a certain Tea feel but non of the bitterness. Chills the soul better than any drink I've had(Non alcoholic atleast). A While I love the Persian and Greek people, I have never been a fan of their food. But somehow this place blends both together as perfect as a swirl of Vanilla and Chocolate ice cream on a oven baking Houston day. That means I'm coming back... read more

False advertising + poor food quality = 1 star rating. Prop up a chair & grab a cup of coffee because I don't give out one star ratings often, hence the lengthy review (can see profile for rating distribution). I called a to-go order last Wednesday, wanting a lunch plate of a gyro, rice, and tabouli. The girl who answered said that there was a gyro lunch plate available for $5.95, but no gyro. Instead, you basically put everything together yourself; the gyro plate comes with your choice of beef or lamb, lettuce, tomato, pickled cucumber, and tzatziki sauce. I chose lamb and also requested a side order of rice ($1.45), which is "topped with rice dipped in saffron and butter" according to the online menu. I arrived at the Kabob Cafe, and it's not easy to find. It's next to the Cafe East Chinese buffet on the side facing Dulles Ave (not Hwy 6). It's where Nyonya Cafe used to be (Malaysian cuisine) before moving to Missouri City (now closed). I had a hard time checking into the Yelp app. For some reason, it kept saying "You're too far" even though Pho Saigon was listed as a nearby place (about 5 doors away in the same strip). Finally, I was able to check-in. According to the check-in offer, I was supposed to get a 20% off lunch special, with lunch specials being from $3.99-$5.95. I gave the girl my credit card without asking for the total (big mistake). She swiped, and as I'm signing said, "You should try the kabobs next time." I thought, "Is the gyro not good?" Keep this thought in mind. I saw the total as I was signing the receipt and asked, "Why is the total, $7.41, so expensive?" Answer from the girl: The Yelp special is wrong. It should've said lunch specials are already 20% off of our regular menu. So, I charged you full-price for the gyro plate, and then took 20% off, which would've been cheaper than if you had paid full price for the lunch special. [Not that much cheaper - less than $.20.] And yet, I come away with a lunch size portion despite paying full price for the dinner portion. Not cool at all. A good restaurant would honor the check-in offer, even if it's wrong. The check-in offer even blatantly lists the price range of the lunch specials (as aforementioned). The girl wouldn't hear any of it. I leave fuming. I don't like it when people lie or mislead me. It's not my problem when some idiot from the restaurant failed English and listed the wrong check-in offer. I get to the office and open the to-go boxes. Before I've even started eating, the restaurant has already committed my first pet peeve of "Greek" restaurants in Houston - the gyro meat is pressed, as if processed from a grocery store deli, not hot and freshly cooked. This place is Mediterreanean, not Greek, so I should be more lenient right? Wrong. If you're going to make a gyro, make it right. The texture was wrong - no jagged edges as if it had been sliced off of a spinning rotisserie like in Greece. In addition, there was no flavor to the gyro. I have no idea if I was eating lamb, beef, or some other kind of meat. It's pressed and processed, that's all I can say. Remember how the girl hinted that the gyro wasn't good? I now understand why she hinted (after swiping the credit card). Don't forget about the rice. I received a full to-go box full of rice, but there was no saffron. It was just plain basmati rice that I could cook myself. And the butter? At La Madeleine, you can grab as many free butter packets as you want. Guess how many butter packets were in my to-go box? One. I really needed about 4-5 packets of butter. Also, the butter's enclosed in the same to-go box as the rice, so by the time you open the packet, the butter's already melted. Since the butter packet isn't sealed (think of airplane food), your liquid butter's already in the to-go box with an empty wrapper (gross - not a fan of trash in my food). Another pet peeve? TINY portion sizes. You know the size of a McDonald's chicken mcnugget sauce container? That's the portion size of the tabouli, humus, and tzatziki sauce you get. The tabouli didn't look right either. There are all these white specks, not like Fadi's, which is full of green vegetation. The tabouli is so spicy you can't taste anything. Maybe there was a mix-up because whatever it is they put in the to-go box isn't tabouli. It seems everyone else reviewing this restaurant had a great or okay time. Maybe my experience was a fluke. But, I'll leave you with one last thought. Something to note is that during the 15 minutes I was there (struggling to get Yelp to let me check in, girl trying to understand the offer, etc), not a soul was in the restaurant. No one came in, no one came out, and no one called to place a to-go order around 12:30PM on a weekday. I think this should be the loudest take-home message: a restaurant of complete silence! read more

I've been here several times and will be back. I've had the gyro sandwich, it was great. I've also had several Kabob dishes. This may sound strange but I believe their saffron rice is healing. This little gem is tucked away in a shopping plaza behind a big chinese buffet place, so it's always a bit more empty than I feel like it should be. Their food is really good. I'm generally here on any given day that I'm craving Greek/Mediterranean food. The people that own it are very nice and accommodating and I've never received a screwed up order from my take out adventures. We've tried most of the menu and can confirm it's all been good. It's a middle of the road kabob restaurant. The kabobs are good although I would recommend sticking to the koobedeh (ground meat) over the chunk meat kabobs. The chunk meat kabobs are better if you go with chicken. I had the beef and it smelled and tasted a little weird, as if it had been in storage too long. The prices are reasonable. I got the chicken kubideh and thought it was ok. It didnt have as much flavor as i would like The rice was on point and served with butter as it always is. Wow! I am so happy I stopped in and ordered take out from here. I had passed this place a million times. This time I decided to try it. I'm Persian and there are no other Persian restaurants in the sugar land area and I was craving it after a long work day! I got the salad shirazi, and soltani! The kabobs were fresh, juicy, authentic and delicious! The rice was perfectly cooked and the ambiance was soothing and calming while I waited. They play authentic Persian music which had me nostalgic, and it looked like they had a wall mural of the Caspian Sea shore which made me smile. I thoroughly enjoyed my wait. I live right around the corner, so it's the closest Greek food I can get. However, I could name two other Greek places within 5 miles that I'd rather go to. The two times that I've been, I've gotten the lamb gyro plate. The meat is sliced too thinly, and I'm not sure whether it's freshly cut or if its just been taken out of an already-sliced package and put onto the grill. The fact that I have to wonder, that's a -1 in itself. The prices are cheaper than their competitors, and so because of that, this place is a decent restaurant for some fast Greek food. read more
